Wollongong beginner training and lessons
russell replied to DJ_Raptor's topic in Beginner DJ Tips & Tricks
I am probably one of the worlds worst teachers. Too impatient when it comes to that kind of thing. -
granted Mac's are expensive. I just recently upgraded my my macbook after 6 years. I am totally rubbish at upkeeping a PC so can you imagine how many I would've went through in 6 years? I never had any problems in those 6 years either. In fact the mrs is still using that laptop back home. Worth every extra penny.

Beats by dr.dre Over-ear headphones for DJing?
russell replied to Jarrah's topic in Accessories etc.
i would imagne you will be able to get one from any decent Audio store. -
I was thinking of starting one of these topics. Doesn't look like this one took off so i'll try and get it going again with this 1989 classic.

125bpm??? fuckin' hell. Thats nose bleed territory. Deep house is usually produced between 110 - 125bpm. I would usually benchmark it around 120 as the standard. All depends on the seting really. If your gonna be playing in the evening then i'd keep it slow. 110 - 115bpm. Loungin'

Actually Soundcoud has a ridiculous amount of music on it which you can search through various genres. Best thing about soundcloud is digging out some unsigned gems.

Stompy is a good website for buying slighty less obvious tracks. Theb est way to pickup on new music if your not sure what your looking for is, as mentioned, Resident Advisor podcasts. They also have a album/single review section linked up with Juno. Little White Earbuds is another good one for podcasts/reviews.

Was having a read through som eolder posts and found this topic pretty interesting. Especially your point over what swayed towards the XD53's. Frequency response levels:- HD25II - 16 Hz - 22,000 Hz XD53 - 5 Hz - 33,000 Hz Human ear - 20 Hz - 20,000 Hz Although the XD53's have a broader frequency response your never going to be able to hear anything in the extra frequencies you've gained over the HD25's. Are the XD53's fully replaceabe? If you break a bit of them can you replace it or is that the headphone done? I use HD25's as every piece of them is replacable is if breaks so 1 pair of hedphones will last you pretty much forever. Aside from them being comfortable, lightweight and sounding good. EDIT: just checked the weight difference and HD25's are 140g compared to XD53's 320g. More than double the weight. When your playing for hours it could makea difference. -
Absolutely love the other side to this, 'Bonysh'. Total bonkers tune with no main melody but still grooves like mad. Total nightmare to mix out of though. Will check this mix whenI get a chance.

I've got a shit connection in my room at camp so wont be able to check anyting out for a while. Will do though when i'm home. Couple of weeks yet though I'm afraid.

thats the kind of music that floats my boat... well, thats more the core then I'm into everything that interjects with that kind of style. I like my music deep.

she's up there anyway. Think my standout producer of the year would have to be Vakula. Boys been puttin out some seriously good records this year.
-
I'm not so sure about that either. She is a fantastic producer, no doubt about that, but I didn't think she was anything special as a DJ. I have only seen her DJ once right enough so maybe I shouldnt judge her on one night.

I wouldn't rate Jamie Jones as the #1. He's there because he's a DC10 resident, runs Hot Creations (which has been a hugely popluar label this year) and had played absolutely everywhere this year. I saw him a few months back and he was too smashed to mix properly. He also has that tech house sound that doesn't go anywhere or do anything for 2 hours... Best DJ I've seen this year is sitting at #94 in the list, Mararet Dygas. Amazingly talented DJ and down to earth person too.

i'm a firm believer in "if it ain't broke... Don't fix it"

Agree with this. A lot of stuff isn't available on soundcloud. youtube is a really good source for content. Would that be allowed to be integrated?
-
once i get a chance i'll need to have a good hunt around for record shops. get some digging done.
-
Cheers, My biggest question just now is regarding record shops. Are there any supplying house/techno? I stumbled across a shop that has a lot of 2nd hand vinyl just off Hay Street. Will be having a good dig thorugh there when I get the chance. Always on the look out for older music as well as new.

Well at the moment I'm on Groote Eylandt working. Probably going to base myself in Perth to begin with I think.

you should have a look into what effects programs you can get for free (not sure if your willing to pay) and have a play around with them. Can really make your own voice sound very different from reality. Worth it just for the mucking about with effect bit regardless.

What is your profession, if you don't mind me asking?
