  1. Only because it was suggested in the whinge thread.. https://soundcloud.com/trennaa/trennaa-nye-mixtape-official-summer-mix im 80% happy with it. It sounds glitchy in parts I think because my laptop couldn't keep up while recording via Audacity.
  2. No doubt reading too far into it. The owner for a long time has not enjoyed 'bounce', but has a smile on his face if he has a room full of patrons which i understand. On monday, the promoter for the friday event was in, i was playing bounce, the patrons were enjoying it. He told me to stop playing 'bangers' (as much as i despise that term), and play rnb or retro, the guy running the night basically told him to piss off and let me keep going. I ended up with a full floor, everyone enjoying. Not trying to sound cocky, but i can read a crowd. After my set, the guy came up to me and said 'ill back off next time and leave it to you'.. we had a laugh about it afterwards. I just dont want to do the wrong thing by either party
  3. Yeah, I've been playing a heap of bootlegs lately, that I guess the crowd are enjoying/relating to.. I like the style too, so I'll be jumping around and I guess providing energy to the crowd.. But yeah, the big guy came up to me last week and told me to keep it commercial, at that stage, I thought "well, I have the crowd with this at the moment, so i'll keep it like this".. Afterwards he said he'd have me on again this week, so im very 50/50. I think I'll swap it around and chop/change this week. See how the crowd goes.
  4. hey guys.. in a bit of a mental dilemma.. I've been playing at a particular place on Mondays and Fridays now for the last month or two.. Consistently. On the Friday, there's two particular people who manage the bookings - promoter, and I guess "head dj". I've been playing melbourne stuff lately, which the crowd are tending to enjoy, im keeping an active dancefloor - which I guess is what the venue owners/promo will want. I have a big feeling that the promoter and head DJ are going to want me to change it up to Commercial music (top 40) and RnB.. My understanding is, its MY job as the dj (during my set) to read the crowd - if they're enjoying the melbourne stuff, keep it up, if they're starting to get bored, change style and read what they will want, use song requests etc.. What would you guys do in this situation? Read the crowd and keep the crowd happy, or do what the promoter/head guy want?
  5. Hey guys.. Haven't really had a great deal of support on this as much as I would have hoped for.. I'm pretty happy with the track selection and the introduction to this.. https://soundcloud.com/trennaa/trennaa-november-2-version-2 Suss it!
  6. Played a somewhat opening set last night at a venue, and got into this rhythm. Made myself a checklist - Filterbutton off, CDJ not on vinyl mode, all the regular stuff.. However, I got to have a play with the filter effects, and see what they actually do, had some fun with it. My next step is actually practising a bit more with the 'echo backspin' you hear on a lot of Melbourne Bounce sets. Very helpful, cheers!
  7. Hahaha glad this thread could be of assistance..
  8. Thanks guys, I appreciate the input and advice.. Good to know im still human lel.
  9. This is exactly how I am at the moment, wrx. My issue is.. when I created my first mixtape, to ultimately 'announce' I was DJing, I expected no more than 5 listens on Soundcloud, was blown away when I hit 30+ listens in 24 hours.. I guess I am wanting to expand and become more noticed, but getting bogged down, thinking maybe I've reached my potential, therefore lack of motivation.
  10. I get this too.. See, Theres a track I love at the moment.. However, I know the track isn't well received.. Im obviously still trying to gain exposure, would this be recommended to use in a mixtape because *I* like it, or keep it away because its not well received?
  11. Thanks for the reply mate. My thing is I do monthly mixtapes.. Try to generate some 'hype' out there.. I'm gonna try shake up the genre a little bit.. I've only really done Bounce, so yeah.. see how the next one goes
  12. I've probably stuffed up the placement of this thread.. im not generally to great on that one.. What do you guys generally do to keep your motivation the DJing in particular? I'm averaging at this stage 1 set a week, and working on creating and building mixtapes once a month - prodominately on Melbourne Bounce, however I'm slowly venturing into the likes of Trap and RnB (where my tastes also are). At times, I get really overwhelmed. I have a small 'following' base if you will, and try to keep those guys entertained, they're very supportive of my movements too. I'm not trying to be the next Will Sparks or Tiesto by no means, however trying to get out there more and keep it rolling, however I do feel at times like im chasing my tail and not really getting anywhere... advice? tips? suggestions?
  13. Very sound advice! Fwq times ive gone to mix a track in, and forgotten to reset eq's to middle. So the midrage or the treble is out. All a learning curve tho!
  14. Thanks man.. Well.. All in all, I was supposed to do a VS closing set with the guy.. The guy was told the owner of the venue wanted to talk to him at midnight.. so he msgd me while I was out and about in the club somewhere, told me I was on solo from midnight.. soooo.. I did the best I could I guess.. Got told a couple of the tracks I played were a little too heavy 'bounce' but hey.. I was jumping around and had my arms flailing like a douche, the crowd seemed to enjoy it. Cheers!
  15. I'll be honest.. the DJ before me at this particular gig/venue, is a mate.. I was put on as a trial run by the 'booking' guy. (I made a post in a sub-forum here about getting gigs at other venues a while back) Both the DJ and the booking guy I know lol.
  16. God damn its frustrating. It's happened to me in 2 club gigs now, the last time was somewhat of an important as it was a 'trial'. lol. Downfall to not learning on a DJM I guess.. However, it's all experience! PS Thanks!
  17. Hey guys.. So.. On the weekend, I had my first 'big' gig, played to a packed out club at the 'prime slot' (12-1). I'll paint the scenario. Using 2 CDJ 2000's, DJ before me played his last track on the left deck (through CH2 on the mixer), I bring in my first track in the right deck (ch3), mix it in, having fun, everything is great. Eject the other DJ's CD, insert my CD, select track, start cueing it up etc.. At the right time, begin mixing it in, thinking something is different, something not right, but maybe its just me.. I am playing commercial bounce, so the intention was to bring the bass in at the "30 second drop", and quickly drop the fader from CH3. At this time, I notice there is NO BASS whatsoever, recheck levels/gains/freq's.. Everything looks fine.. At this time Im thinking WTF, somethings gone technically wrong.. Subs blown maybe? Guy running the night, runs to booth.. the Filter button was selected and flashing.. causing the bass to cut out? This is the second time this has happeend to me, previously the DJ before me was using traktor on a mac, so i assumed this was something to do with it.. I don't have a DJM mixer at all, so im not fluent with the filter effects or anything, nor do I use them in my sets.. Can anyone shed some light as to WHY it cuts the bass.. im almost certain I didnt knock the filter button, as I wouldn't have a reason to be near that part of the mixer.. Thanks!
  18. Bombs Away have incorporated a band style to thier shows quite often. They've had a YouTube Cover-drummer Matt Maguire bring drums to the stage, while Sketch has been known to play Guitar, Tommy Shades as the MC/Vocalist, and their own DJ to mix the music.
  19. Thanks guys, appreciate it.
  20. I dont attend regularly, mainly because the venue is a distance from home lol. However, I could attend somewhat more regularly. I know the place as of late has been really busy, and I guess I PERSONALLY want to be able to bring my style to the venue, try it out on a larger crowd, see the reaction. I understand this sounds very selfish, but again, I guess the only way to get critisism is from a raw crowd, right?
  21. Hi y'all. So ive had a couple of sets at a particular place, I get good reviews about my sets, I have the ability to read the crowd and change the music style to keep people entertained throughout my hour. I have a particular place in mind where I want to DJ, its not a massive place, but its not quiet. I know a couple of people who are residents, and someone who from what I understand is a talent scout/runs the night. What is the best way to approach them in order to get a set at this venue? I feel like walking up and saying "hey, any chance I can play a set" would be inappropriate. The people I know, also know me, so they would have had the exposure to my stuff that I post publically so they most likely would be able to view my music taste/ability. Tips? Ideas?
  22. This may sound like a rediculous question, however I need to have 2x cdj 2000s linked. Im assuming this is by connecting an ethernet/lan cable to each cdj? So you can put a usb into deck1, and deck2 can read the info as well?
  23. Hey guys.. I worked solidly for maybe 2 days on the intro, then recorded the rest in one sitting.. May not seem like much for an intro, but im damn proud of it. I stuck with Melbourne Bounce, went into some Minimal and finished up with Rnb (competely messed up the end), but have a listen, would love some shares/feedback! https://soundcloud.com/trennaa/trenna-tape-2-september-mixtape fkn love the artwork haha
  24. I posted this last night as a general comment, but actually want some realistic feedback. I'm used to mixing with the Melbourne Bounce genre - where every 15/30 seconds (4-8 bars or so) there's generally a beat change. Im wanting to mix things up a bit with a mixtape, and LIVE mix (not pre-plan everything in FL/Ableton), and even for live sets play around with some rnb or trap. I need some tips and feedback.. im not great with scratching, so at this stage, scratching in a new track wouldn't necessarily work..
