We’ve become used to the dark and raw Boys Noize over the years, but with a surprise track out today, he’s showing that there’s far more up his sleeve. Teaming up with Steven A. Clark for “Killer,” Boys Noize presents a more R&B-influenced track than we’ve ever heard from him. “Killer” is actually a cover of the Adamski & Seal track of the same name. Boys Noize and Clark bonded over the original track while working on Clark’s album Where Neon Goes To Die, which was produced by Boys Noize. Boys Noize says about the track: “Being a 90’s kid, I kind of grew up with this song which later became one of these tunes I’d play out at the end of the night. When I met Steven and heard his voice for the first time I immediately thought of that track and the idea of doing a cover version was born. It was initially just for fun, but it turned banging and lit the dancefloors wherever I’d drop it – so here I am sharing my industrial KILLER.” Check it out below! Martin Garrix’s The Martin Garrix Show takes fans on an unprecedented behind the scenes journey into one of the world’s top musicians. On the third episode of Season 3, Garrix talks about his show at the World Club Dome where he performed in front of 37,000 people last November. The video showcases some pre-show lighting issues, as well as the final product during the performance – which if we weren’t shown the issues before hand, we wouldn’t have believed there were any in the first place. The video ends with Garrix and his team wishing a tour manager Aubrey Wright a happy birthday. Watch it all below! This article was first published on Your EDM. While it’s no secret who Marshmello really is, his commitment to the Marshmello character continues to engage fans. In a new video from GQ‘s video series Actually Me, Marshmello adds another layer to his mystery: social media accounts. In the Actually Me video, Marshmello masquerades….as himself…to answer fan questions on Twitter, Reddit, Instagram and even Wikipedia. All of his accounts are named after himself, but as we all know from going on the Internet, you can never trust anyone. Still, the video shows the helmeted producer answering several pressing questions. He reveals he wears in-ear headphones underneath when performing live, that it gets hot under his helmet (but he’s a marshmallow so it’s OK…) and the inspiration behind the hit track “Alone.” Marshmello doesn’t actually speak in the video; a computerized voice gives his answers. It’s a cute workaround to build upon his Marshmello persona, and gives him the chance to pantomime to his heart’s content. The video makes another great addition to the Actually Me video series, which gives celebrities the chance to interact with unknowing fans. Marshmello joins Noel Gallagher, 50 Cent, Cardi B and Post Malone as musical guests on the program. At least it’s not another celebrity DJ. Instead, actor Tom Hardy is reportedly making a grime album. For the uninitiated, grime is a UK subgenre of hip-hop, made famous by artists such as Skepta and Stormzy. According to British tabloid The Sun, Hardy is trying his hand at grime with a full-fledged album. Hardy may be famous for playing Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, Mad Max in Mad Max: Fury Road and Eddy Brock in the upcoming Venom film, but he’s got a hip-hop background too. Earlier this year his unreleased 1999 mixtape leaked online, and people were actually pretty into it. According to the Sun article, record labels like Warner have expressed interest in releasing Hardy’s music. The actor is rumored to be working with producer Sam Williams, who has produced albums for David Bowie and others. Apparently Hardy and Williams have become friends, inspiring Hardy to give his rapping career a more serious look. Grime would be the perfect fit as well; Hardy hails from the UK, the hub of grime around the world. Will we hear Hardy spit on grime records? Very possibly. Hopefully his rapping a bit easier to understand than his Bane voice, though. This article was first published on Your EDM. Source: Tom Hardy Reportedly Making a Grime Album Source

I’ve had my ear on the Chicago based EDM act, Capturez, for a little over a year now. As the name suggests, he always captures an off-the-wall vibe that every electronic music fan is looking for. Constantly pumping out enlightening melodies melded with face melting bass, this dude certainly knows how to get a crowd going Taking a page from genre giants like Black Mill and The Glitch Mob, Capturez composes complex soundscapes that glitch and groove in all the right ways. His most recent release, “Akira Complex,” is a stunning testament to this style. With a grinding bass and exalted melodic interludes, this tune is something anybody can get lost in. Toss this one on at your earliest convenience and get your energy up! This article was first published on Your EDM. Source: Capturez – Akira Complex Source

Having released his debut album only five months ago, Ghastly is already back with another tune, though it’s rather intense and very short. At just barely over two minutes, there’s hardly even time to strap yourself in before “This Song Scares People” unleashes itself upon you. Ghastly doesn’t mince words, letting people know right off the bat what to expect – “This Songs Scares People” is thus not only the song title, but also a warning. After a brief 37-second intro, it goes straight into gnarly, atonal bass notes enough to blow any cheap speakers with ease. A little switch up here, a little extra bass there, and you’ve got the makings of a massive DJ tool that does exactly what it promises to do. Check out “This Song Scares People” below. Having made his debut on Rezz’s album Certain Kind Of Magic with a collaboration on “Life & Death,” Deathpact now makes a grand entrance with a debut EP entitled Cipher One. A cipher is a “secret or disguised way of writing,” which fits in not only with the braille on the EP art, but also with the artist aesthetic as a whole. Nothing is known about Deathpact to the point that even the Facebook for the artist flashes “there’s nothing here” across the top. As for the EP, it’s a collection of dark, midtempo and techno-influenced tracks that bear strong resemblance to Rezz, Drezo, Nero and the like. Anyone with that sort of taste in dance music will find Deathpact’s unique sonic signature more than palatable. Check out Cipher One below. This article was first published on Your EDM. It seems like recently drum and bass labels have began sprouting throughout our beloved scene like California wildfires. Some have proven to be more fruitful than others, signing artists and music consistently and proactively in a way that stays true to their label and fanbase, while still simultaneously pushing forward an open- minded sound that they believe shows promise for the future of drum and bass and its underlying culture. That being said, Theatrix and his wife X have announced the launch of their brand new label, premiering with this his new tune “With Me” Feat. Franny B. So what’s different, then, about Divination Recordings? What sets them apart from, well… everyone else? We sat down with label head Wil Theatrix to discuss their launch and all things Divination. Let’s get into it. Hey man! Glad to be having a word with you about the new label. How goes it? Yeah, things are going great man. So letʼs get right into it… whatʼs with all this mystical occult vibes that the label is centralized around? Did I get that right? Yes sir. The label draws heavily on the occult and pagan imagery. Our release and preliminary promo schedules are plotted out against the lunar phases and astrological phenomena. In addition, our release art and promo has heavy esoteric influence as well because the similarities between esoteric & religious practices and that of artists are too many to ignore. In many esoteric circles, it’s believed that the act of creation, such as painting or music production, are inherently magical due to the fact that works of art transcend language barriers. For those that are interested in learning more, we’ve set up a Facebook group through the Divination page to curate esoteric content as it relates to the arts – an open “book of shadows” if you will. Tell us a bit about the labelʼs influences… what type of music do you see yourself releasing in year 1-2? I think that would depend on the time of year really and how the artist wants to present themselves. Both my wife and co-founder X and I like a wide spectrum of drum and bass so we don’t expect artists to pigeon-hole themselves. Express yourself however you want and if it’s dope, clean, and meets or exceeds our standards, we’d be glad make it happen. That being said, expect tunes from a wide range of artists in a wide range of sounds. Letʼs talk about Theatrix. How has this release come together? Honestly, I’ve been sitting on this tune for a while. Dip Vertigo was still part of Theatrix when this tune was started. He did the vocal direction in the tracking session as well as some piano work. We met Franny B through the homie D’Cipher out here in LA. I sent it out to a few DJs over the next year and a half of working on it and got some great responses and some interest from a few labels but nothing ever came to fruition – chalk it up to poor timing. X and I were getting into ghost hunting and the occult at the time when the idea to start a label started manifesting on its own. No matter how much I wanted to ignore it, It felt like something was telling us to make our own opportunities. I fought the idea for a while and it really was X that was the driving force to get us going. We talked at length about our vision for the label, how we want to impact the community, and what legacy we want to leave behind. Afterwards, we contacted Label-Engine, laid out a strategy and here we are a few months later. How do your normal studio days go? Any essential errr…. rituals that you may possess…. I mean- execute on a normal day? I like to start by clearing my head and setting an intention for the session. Sometimes, I’ll do this through meditation. Sometimes, through playing video games. All depends on the day I’ve had really and what I’m setting out to accomplish. It’s very important to start with a clear head. If you could collaborate with anyone- who would it be? Man, I’d love to do a track with Riya and/or Tiki Taane in the booth and sit at the desk with Break and Chris.SU. That would be a dream project. Lastly, any future releases on the label youʼd wish to share with the readers? Next up, we got newcomer Composure on his debut release followed by something from Kronology to round out the year. Next year, expect a special something from Random Movement, tunes from up and coming talent, and more special releases with veteran producers. This release is scheduled for Oct 10 beatport exclusive / 24 worldwide. This article was first published on Your EDM. Source: Introducing: Divination Recordings + Theatrix Premiere Source

The wait for Kingdom Hearts 3 is nearly over as the third installment in the massively popular series (though technically the 12th game) is set for release on January 25, 2019. However, a new revelation brings the game into the realm of dance music and we’re wildly excited about it. According to ASCAP, the opening theme for the game is being written by “Simple & Clean” star Utada Hikaru, as well as Skrillex and Poo Bear. Skrillex shared an image of Kingdom Hearts on his Instagram back in 2016, at least denoting he’s a fan of the series. (But then again, who isn’t?) The opening theme, otherwise entitled “Face My Fears,” will no doubt be one of the highlights of the game aside from the actual gameplay. “Simple & Clean” has become a staple in video game and anime history – will this new song be able to do the same? Though many of Dillon Francis’s day-one fans aren’t too happy with the singles for his forthcoming album WUT WUT, the producer has been tapping into a massive Latin market and has gotten himself hundreds of thousands of new fans because of it. Even more tangible is the fact that his song “Sexo” with Residente & iLe is now nominated at the Latin Grammys and the Latin American Music Awards. At the Latin Grammys, “Sexo” is up for Best Short Form Music Video; at the Latin American Music Awards, it’s up for Favorite Video. The song’s inclusion in the video category in both awards ceremonies is no doubt due to the widespread popularity of the viral dance that came with it. It’s also just a fantastically produced video by any standard. Watch it again below. Photo via Rukes.com This article was first published on Your EDM. When we hear Cashmere Cat, our ears immediately perk up — but this new remix is like catnip! Being a feline of few words, Cashy simply shares, “playing a new song :)” in the post below. Cashmere Cat takes something beautiful, and fragile, and makes it his own for a very special, rather flawless remix. The song he plays out is an unmistakable blend of XXXTentacion‘s dreamlike “Moonlight” and the producer’s own pleasing interpretation of the track. Soft, delicate, oh-so-Cashmere sounds drip out the speakers as he plays for a pretty hype crowd. Although he led a controversial personal life, there’s no denying what an impact XXXTentacion made as an artist — and still is making now. Just yesterday, he and Lil Peep’s posthumous release “Falling Down” came out and wowed us all. XXX passed on June 18, 2018. Lil Peep died on November 15, 2017. RIP. Paul Oakenfold just became the first DJ to ever play at Stonehenge! Many iconic acts including the Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin have asked for permission to play there, but all have been politely declined up until last Thursday’s performance. Maybe it was Paul Oakenfold‘s pull as one of the world’s greatest DJs, or the way he pitched a set that would bring awareness to the stunning monument. Most likely, it was the total package he presented. Silent disco technology was used to keep the party respectful and the great stones of the prehistoric monument were tastefully lit up to complement the sunset. Showcasing a range of music, everything from Lana Del Rey to U2 to The Weeknd, Oakenfold played a people-pleasing set. To finish, he premiered a new track, fittingly titled “Stonehenge.” He also invited Carl Cox, another true legend, to join him on the decks to cap off the night. “It was wonderful,” he modestly revealed to CNN. “It was a very unique show.” Oakenfold’s entire set will soon release digitally, with proceeds going to English Heritage. With all of news coming out of events from this past weekend, you couldn’t be blamed for missing the announcement of the release date for DJ Snake’s newest song with Cardi B, Selena Gomez And Ozuna. “Taki Taki” will officially be out Sept 28. Not much is known about the single, aside from the fact that there’s already a music video done for it. As far as we can tell, the track hasn’t been played out at any live shows and there’s no radio or set rip for it, either. What we do know about this track is that it has the star power to be an utter chart dominator. It has the potential to finally knock Zedd’s “The Middle” off #1 on Hot Dance/Electronic, where it has been for 33 weeks straight. “Taki Taki” comes out a week from Friday – will you be ready? It seems at this point that fans must come to terms with Zedd’s new pop-heavy style, as releases like “The Middle,” “Stay,” and “Happy Now” have historically performed well on the charts and have likely made the producer tons of dough. However, much like with The Chainsmokers, we can always count on remix packs for singles to scratch that EDM itch. On the official remix EP for “Happy Now,” every single track manages to outshine the original. Let’s be clear – the original is good in its own way. But for dance music stans, it definitely misses the mark by a wide margin. The EP begins with a remix from Marc Benjamin, a name which should be familiar to progressive house fans. His remix, on the other hand, explores a more electro trap side that is definitely addictive. BEAUZ brings a more future trap sound to the mix while Duke & Jones go wildly experimental with theirs. MXXWLL brings the tempo down and the vibes way, way up with a jazzy interpretation that makes brilliant use of Elley Duhé’s as it’s slightly pitched down and modulated for a clubbier effect. Lastly, Magnificence brings us back to the experimental side with a bit of wonky house music. There isn’t a single remix on the EP I wanted to skip and that’s saying a lot. Check them all out below! It used to be that when a musician died, fans would play their records or CDs on personal devices. Now, with the advent of streaming and powerful analytics tools, it’s easier than ever to see how an important figure’s death impacts their numbers. Since Mac Miller’s death two weeks ago, his overall streaming numbers have increased by 970%. Additionally, every one of his studio albums have re-entered the Billboard Top 200, along with two of his mixtapes. Swimming now sits at No. 6, with GO:OD AM at No. 32, Blue Slide Park at 49, The Divine Feminine at 50 and Watching Movies With the Sound Off at 59. As for the mixtapes, 2011’s Best Day Ever and 2012’s Macadelic also make their debut on the Billboard 200 at 26 and 106 respectively. Swimming was released a month before his death. While the wait for San Holo’s debut album has been comparatively shorter than others, it has still felt like an eternity. The “Light” artist has, perhaps not by his own admission, been riding the success of the single since its release in 2016. He’s released a number of singles in the time since, but none have been as career-defining as his debut album, album1, out today. The 12-track album is said to bridge progressive rock with dance music, utilizing a vastly different style of arrangement than most dance music fans are used to. In addition, San brings his soft and powerful guitar riffs into the mix for a deeply personalized production with his signature sound attached to each and every note. And it goes even deeper: during the production of the album, San spent a couple months holed up in an Airbnb in Echo Park, with close friends and feature artists coming in and out during that time. There’s not a single song on the album where the creation process took place over email. San spoke exclusively to Billboard about each track on album1, stating; “I wanted this album to introduce people to a new kind of sound. A warmer, organic, and less polished version of EDM.” San continues, “”show me” is a good example that represents this new sound. I recorded a lot of guitars on cassette tape, to give it that warm, warbly, lofi sound. You can clearly hear this in the guitar intro of the song. The beauty of recording actual instruments on tape is the fact that you can never record the same thing twice.” There’s no doubt that the album takes a little getting used to. Taking into context the usual format of live electronic music – the DJ set – album1 doesn’t make much sense. Of course, it was never meant to be a purely DJ-centric project in the first place. San has been on stage using his guitar for months now, giving fans a taste of what was to come. With the release of album1, we expect his live show to also approach the next level. San will embark on a 30+ date tour across North America, which kicks off on October 31st. We expect his guitar to of course be on the road with him, but we also predict his live set up could be expanded beyond that, adding keys and MIDI percussion to the mix. Though, that’s still to be seen. For now, however, album1 is available to explore and peruse. Previous singles “lift me from the ground” and “brighter days” join new favorites like “always on my mind” and “forever free.” Check it all out below. Karma Fields is easily Monstercat’s most mysterious artist, even more than Braken or Tokyo Machine. A lot of this has to do with the fact that he has rarely played live shows on more than a handful of dates. And there was one event in Los Angeles years ago showcasing the HEX stage in its early development, but Karma Fields will make a true LA live show debut tonight at Avalon Hollywood and we are positively stoked. Karma Fields was quiet in all of 2017 following the release of his debut album the year prior, but has been on a tear in 2018 with a number of singles, including “Colorblind” with Tove Lo and “You and Me” with Little Boots. With so much new music this year, the show should be especially enthralling and absolute eye candy with the full HEX production. Tickets to the show are still available but they’re going fast! Nina Kraviz Partners With Ray-Ban for New Eyeglass Collection
Cupe posted a topic in DJ Headquarters
Techno and house may have once been underground, but now the big genre icons achieve commercial status. The latest example? Nina Kraviz partnering with Ray-Ban for a new collection. Kraviz’ Ray-Ban collection includes two new cat-eye framed glasses. Nina said she picked the cat-eye design because Ray-Ban hadn’t released new cat-eye glasses for a long time. As part of the partnership, Ray-Ban will name all future cat-eye glasses after Kraviz with the “Nina” name. Kraviz partnered with Ray-Ban as part of the eyeglass company’s Feel Your Beat partnership series. The Martinez Brothers were the first artists to partner with Ray-Ban for the series, a clear appeal to the underground heads. The series itself not only gives artists the chance to partner with Ray-Ban, but also be documented in new videos. Kraviz’ video with Ray-Ban is a quick look into her personal and touring; nothing we haven’t seen before, but at least it’s well produced. Head over to Ray-Ban to check out Kraviz’ new glasses for Ray-Ban and watch their collaborative video below: This article was first published on Your EDM. The pressure has been on for Skrillex all year to release new music. It’s nothing new – his fanbase is generally voracious for any kind of new content, though we really can’t blame them. As one of the most prolific and talented producers in music these days, it’s been somewhat disheartening if not understandable to see him put so much effort into producing for others and leaving his OG fans in the cold. But faith persists and millions have kept the belief that he’s been producing more for himself and his fans behind the scenes, and there’s been a lot to point to new music being released soon. Most recently, both Ekali and LA events company Brownies & Lemonade have hinted at new music coming soon. Ekali, in response to Rezz, confirmed that he’s heard new music and says “it’s very fucking good.” B&L on their own tweeted, “if u think new music from skrillex is coming soon.. ur absolutely right and it’s gonna change the game [sic].” We don’t know what this music sounds like, but we can be pretty confident from the testimonies of those who have heard it that we’re in for a treat. Okay, so, the reason for this mixtape 100% was not for your Lost Lands recovery, but seeing as I just experienced 72 straight hours of bass music, I’m gonna be selfish and call this one for me. Jenaux just dropped his Funk Tape ’18 with 17 songs, 15 of which are unreleased originals and special edits – none of which are dubstep. My brain and body are still recovering from the past weekend, so this mix is quite literally a godsend. With tons of edits of your favorite tracks like “Ain’t No Sunshine” as well as fresh originals, this is your key to recovery. “I kept waiting endlessly for these to come out individually,” says Jenaux. “I’ve been held up by so many outside circumstances, it sucked. Most important thing to me though was to continue believing, surround myself with people that supported and helped piece together my vision. It’s finally coming together. I wanted to share just a little bit of what I’ve been working on with the world. Hope you guys funk to it as much as I loved making it.” Check out Funk Tape ’18 below. Funk Tape ’18 Tracklist: 1. Funk in Paris (Mix Version) 2. Soultrak (Mix Version) 3. Hands Up (Raise Your Fist) (Jenaux Remix) (Mix Version) – The Funk Hunters & Leo Napier 4. Midnight (Mix Version) 5. Some things were never meant to be, like Insomniac‘s new psytrance, house and techno festival. Called Sacred Valley, the festival was set to take place next weekend at the Los Coyotes Indian Reservation in Southern California. Unfortunately, Insomniac has cancelled the festival entirely. Sacred Valley announced the news today with social media posts and a splash page on the event’s website. Organizers cancelled the festival “due to unforeseen circumstances” and not being able to “deliver the experience [they] had envisioned.” Refunds will be issued within five to seven business days, and it’s unknown whether the festival will ever return. The lineup would’ve included everyone from Tensnake to DJ Three, Astrix to Shpongle and Christian Smith to Kevin Saunderson. The vague cancellation description will likely inspire some conspiracy theories, but the lineup’s niche offerings may have contributed to its downfall. Plus, the festival only announced and began selling tickets in July. We respect Insomniacc for trying, and hope to see more psytrance and house and techno acts booked at events like EDC and the Wonderland festivals. RIP Sacred Valley. We hardly knew ye. I’m admittedly in the group of people who never listened to Lil Peep or XXXTentacion until their respective deaths, but found meaning and quality in their work once I tried. With three months since X’s death and ten since Peep’s, the two’s posthumous collaboration “Falling Down” is now out. Each artist has released music within the rock realm in the past, but this will obviously have a very different impact on the fans of both artists. At time of publishing, the track has already been played over 650,000 times in its first 5 hours – and that’s just on Soundcloud. Check out “Falling Down” below. Despite our progress in society, women still have it rough. It’s disappointing to hear women at top companies still face discrimination, especially at a company like Spotify. That’s right; an employee has sued Spotify for discrimination against female employees and defamation. Hong Perez has sued Spotify in the New York Supreme Court, making a number of huge claims: Her boss only chose men to go on trips to the Sundance Film Festival in 2016 and 2017, trips that included drug use and fights. A Spotify executive received a promotion even after being accused of sexual harassment and taking male employees to strip clubs in Atlantic City in New Jersey. Spotify CFO Barry McCarthy allegedly said “he does not care about diversity at the company” during a town hall. An HR executive said his favorite curse word was “c***.” The global head of sales paid men more than women. An HR executive didn’t punish a male executive accused of sexual harassment. Wow, that’s a lot to take in. Variety asked Spotify for comment, receiving the following quote: “At Spotify, we do not tolerate discrimination of any kind at any level. While we cannot comment on the specific details of a pending litigation, these claims are without merit.” We’re very curious to see how this court case shakes out. It’s hard enough to buy tickets on Ticketmaster when tens of thousands of people are trying to secure perhaps only 5,000-10,000 tickets at major musical and/or sporting events, but it’s made much harder when the company providing those tickets is obscenely obsessed with profit. According to an undercover investigative report conducted by CBC News and Toronto Star, Ticketmaster knowingly operates an approved secondary seller market within its own company with the aim of doubling or tripling its own profits. A pair of reporters posing as scalpers was sent from the outlets to Ticket Summit 2018, a ticketing and live entertainment convention at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. During their time at the convention, they spoke with many representatives for Ticketmaster who told them about their “professional reseller program.” Utilizing proprietary software called TradeDesk, users could manipulate prices and amounts of tickets on secondary markets at will, creating a mostly-unregulated marketplace for tickets. Nearly all of these users used multiple accounts and bots. “I have brokers that have literally a couple of hundred accounts,” one sales representative said. “It’s not something that we look at or report.” “If you want to get a good show and the ticket limit is six or eight … you’re not going to make a living on six or eight tickets,” said another. Alan Cross, a veteran music journalist and host of the radio program The Ongoing History of New Music, called the investigation a “public relations nightmare” for Ticketmaster. He said there have been “whispers of this in the ticket-selling community, but it’s never been outlined quite like this before.” This all benefits Ticketmaster because of its fees. According to CBC, “if Ticketmaster collects $25.75 on a $209.50 ticket on the initial sale, when the owner posts it for resale for $400 on the site, the company stands to collect an additional $76 on the same ticket.” Ticketmaster has declined requests for an interview. via CBC This article was first published on Your EDM.
