Kanye West wasn’t kidding about that presidential run. At least, John Legend doesn’t think so. For years, there has been talks about West running for office. First it was 2020, but apparently his sights have shifted to a potential 2024 campaign. The thing is, no one really knows if or when this went from a publicity stunt to an actual goal of the hip hop icon. Upon accepting the MTV VMA Vanguard Award in 2015, West ended his speech with, “As you probably could have guessed by this moment, I have decided in 2020 to run for president.” And, just yesterday he tweeted out, “2024.” 2024 — KANYE WEST (@kanyewest) September 8, 2018 Now, John Legend has weighed in. During a podcast with with Dan Wootton of The Sun, the Grammy-award winning singer and personal friend confirmed, “I think he’s serious.” “I don’t know how he would run…” he continued. “If I were to guess, I’d think he’d probably run as an independent.” Legend also shared his own unfavorable opinion of President Donald Trump. “He’s done enough to get impeached. He’s done enough to embarrass the nation, to use the office to enrich himself and to abuse his power that he should not be president anymore, if there’s any justice.” “That doesn’t mean it’s going to happen, because it’s a political process and legislators have to vote for it. But he deserves to be removed from office.” Kanye West, however, has been an enthusiastic supporter of President Trump since the beginning. Listen to the full podcast here. In a very short time, PEEKABOO has become one of this year’s most important producers to watch. With two full EPs under his belt and an insane amount of hype, you’d be remiss if you weren’t paying attention. PEEKABOO just released a new song with G-Rex called “Babatunde” that perfectly captures why he’s such an enthralling artist. Combining old school wubs with modern-day trap aesthetics and wonky production, the two have created a uniquely terrifying and original tune that would work well in any set. Considering he’s already received support from Zeds Dead, Jauz, Bassnectar and Space Jesus, I’d expect to hear this tune in bass sets all around the globe from some of the world’s top DJs. Check out “Babatunde” below! Oh, and a serious congrats is due on all the success. Quitting your day job to pursue music full time is one helluva thrill. just quit my day job fuck the haters — PEEKABOO (@peekaboobeats) July 10, 2018 This article was first published on Your EDM. We’ve been getting down to this new one from Kastra all weekend long! “Supreme” featuring Kid Phil is just the right blend of bass, Brazilian, and g house, with relaxed vocals and deep elements that ensure a smooth, easy listen. The bulk of the track keeps a cool and collected energy, raising the intensity only to drop into a sick, steady four-on-the-floor beat. Mid-way through, Kid Phil keeps the flow going over Kastra’s beautifully produced, trap-infused breakdown. The softer tones and melodies layered in the mix prove to be some of our favorite qualities of this track. The overall balance heard with “Supreme” is simply outstanding. This release instinctively finds its place on Gold Digger records, a label devoted to releasing some of the freshest house selects out there. Listen and link up right here! Kastra – Supreme (ft. Dillon Francis is always a good time and with every interview we learn something new. Just recently, he stopped by the Zach Sang Show to talk his forthcoming, all-Spanish album Wut Wut and more. From the real story behind moombahton, to getting sampled by Nicki Minaj, to his love for Panic! at the Disco’s Brendon Urie — there’s a lot of good stuff packed in this over hour-long podcast. Even the randomness, like talking about his best piñata friend Gerald and revealing his favorite curse word keeps us fully engaged. Most notably, Dillon opens up about the concept behind Wut Wut and explains why he decided to produce an entirely Spanish album. What (or should we say wut) inspired the album’s title, its collaborators, the naughtiest track on the record, and the overall focus of his cultural project — it’s all covered here. Wut Wut is due out September 29, so get ready! In the meantime, watch this. Dillon Francis on the Zach Sang Show Photo via Rukes.com This article was first published on Your EDM. We’ve heard a lot from Kanye West lately. First with his deeply personal, seven-track release, ye. Then, his collaborative project, Kids See Ghosts with Kid Cudi. Just two days ago, he and Lil Pump put out a guilty pleasure track with “I Love It.” Now, we can expect perhaps an even more massive release, which he promises is “coming soon.” It was seven years ago when Jay-Z and Kanye West unleashed Watch the Throne via Roc-A-Fella Records and fans have been begging for a sequel ever since. The album that birthed instant classics like “Ni**as in Paris,” “Otis,” “No Church in the Wild,” and many more is destined for a follow up. Ye just confirmed it. Here’s all the proof we need: throne2 coming soon — KANYE WEST (@kanyewest) September 8, 2018 In the music world, “coming soon” could mean anything — but we’re still hyped on this. Our guess is Watch the Throne 2 will be made available on Jay-Z’s Tidal first, perhaps even before other streaming platforms. Check back here for updates. Two people are in critical condition following Reminisce Festival in England with suspected overdoses — which could be linked to “bad” MDMA. According to a report, a 19-year-old woman and 22-year old man were believed to have taken the drug. A number of others were also rushed in for medical treatment following possible intake. The hospitalizations came after a “bad” batch of MDMA pills circulated the event and investigators have reason to believe the substance could be the cause. Reminisce Festival previously warned about “bad” batch of “blue diamond pills,” pictured below. The post urged anyone who felt concerned about themselves or a friend to approach festival workers or onsite medical staff. Police also urged attendees to avoid taking any pills distributed during Reminisce. Detective Inspector Paul Grounds said, “…we are doing everything possible to identify exactly what substance or substances have resulted in these severe reactions, working alongside the health service.” “We initially believe that ecstasy tablets were taken by some of those in hospital but this is all subject to further enquiries. I would urge anyone else who has had an adverse reaction to any substance make themselves known to medical services as soon as possible.” Everyone stay safe out there. “Bad” Blue Diamond Pills We love to see you having an awesome time at Reminisce, but be safe! Calvin Harris is a certified hit machine! For anyone who needs proof, he just set a new record as the artist with the most No. 1 hits this decade in the UK. His brand new collaboration with Sam Smith, “Promises,” is the latest release to top the singles chart, according to OfficialCharts.com. This marks the producer’s 8th No. 1 in the 2010s, 10th overall, and has ultimately earned him the top honor for this decade. Now in the double-digets, he joins the ranks of other big time hitmakers like Madonna, The Beatles and Elvis Presley. “Promises is number 1 in UK!!!! Thank you so much. Buzzing you like it as much as I do… @samsmithworld what a blessing it is to be able to work with you,” Calvin took to Twitter to share the exciting news. “Thank you.” But, if you look at overall song credits, he has surpassed his own record by a long shot. “Also they’re saying it’s my 10th number 1 but I count productions too so it’s my 14th. big upppp.” Calvin Harris & Sam Smith – “Promises” Source: OfficialCharts.com | Photo via Rukes.com This article was first published on Your EDM. It’s hard to think of a marshmallow having a childhood with friends, but Marshmello isn’t your average puffed confectionary treat. The sentient sweet shows off his troubled childhood in the new music video for “Flashbacks” off his sophomore album Joytime II. The video for “Flashbacks” plays true to its namesake, showcasing home videos from Marshmello’s childhood birthdays. Only, not all that glitters is gold. His parents are constantly fighting at what should be a happy time in a child’s life, and it only plays out poorly for young mello who consistently feels the need to flee after being embarrassed. Thankfully, these aren’t the only videos his parents have recorded. Memories of Marshmello’s time in college, discovering his love for music, and his triumphs as a young adult more than make up for the harsh childhood he faced on film. Dillon Francis took a leap of faith in remixing Martin Solveig‘s “My Love” — he appreciated the track so much that he just knew he would nail it. And, that he did. The original fine-tuned dance ballad sounds untouchable, but Dillon Francis puts just enough party in the mix to give it new life. With some EDM flair, “My Love” becomes a silky, rhythmic masterpiece in its own right. It’s our latest obsession — and as it turns out, Martin Solveig is crazy about it, too. “‘My Love’ is a special song for me,” Solveig opens up in an emailed statement to Billboard. “Dillon and I have been friends for five years, and it’s always more comfortable to ask a friend to take care of something you care about. What he did with the song is unbelievable. I think it’s the definition of a top remix.” Solveig says he likes the song just as much as the original. When a producer admits something like that, you know it has to be good. Dillon is ecstatic about the stamp of approval. “I love Martin to death,” Francis tells Billboard. “…and I fucking loved the original, so this remix was a piece of cake for me. I’m extremely happy with the finished product, but most of all, I’m extremely happy with how happy Martin is with what I did to the song.” This remix, bursting with happy feels and sheer love, will immediately make your day better. There are two things we’ll never get sick of hearing: 1) “Don’t You Worry Child” and 2) “Swedish House Mafia is back!” Which also happens to be why the video below sounds like sweet, sweet music to our ears. Steve Angello recently played the epic Tomorrowland presents Garden of Madness residency at Ushuaïa. As he dropped one of the most famous songs from the EDM supergroup, he got on the mic to share some choice words with the crowd. “Ibiza, you remember us, don’t you?” Angello said. Naturally, the crowd went wild. “Don’t you worry, Swedish House Mafia is back!” Swedish House Mafia reunited for Ultra Music Festival‘s 20th anniversary celebration this year. It was then that music fans from all over the globe, in Miami and watching from home, realized what we’d been missing. As for a full 2019 tour — it’s happening. We seriously get chills watching this! Porter Robinson’s younger brother, Mark Robinson, was answering some fan questions on Instagram earlier today. One of the questions asked was if he had a hand in designing any of the visuals or merch for the Virtual Self brand. His answer? Simply “yes.” He failed to specify if he had only worked on the merch or the visuals, or even both, but Porter’s brother definitely had some input on the VS project. From the use of the stylized “yes,” we assume that it was more visual work than merch, but we wouldn’t put words in his mouth. Mark Robinson (Porters little brother) confirmed to have designed some of the VS merch. from porterrobinson At least for the merch, you can read more about Porter Robinson’s new Worlds line in celebration of the fourth anniversary of his epic live show here. Sam Smith has become one of music’s biggest gay icons, and it’s only fitting the music video to his collaboration with Calvin Harris celebrates gay culture. In the new “Promises” music video, vogue and ball culture take center stage. The “Promises” music video mixes clips of Harris and Smith with clips of ball and vogue dancers. For those who don’t know, ball culture involves performers competing for prizes and trophies at balls. Ballculture is huge in places like New York for the LGBT community, and the video prominently features several ball icons. Fashion model Winnie Harlow also makes an appearance. The video is a perfect companion to the original single, a light dancefloor anthem suited for any occasion. It’s also great to hear Smith on electronic production again. He got his big break singing on “Latch” by Disclosure, but his solo career caters to slower piano ballads. The video also gives exposure to still underground LGBT hallmarks; everyone knows drag, but how many people know ball and vogue? Ariana Grande, just like the rest of us, is dealing with the tragic news of Mac Miller‘s unexpected passing. Unfortunately, being his ex-girlfirend has had some absolutely horrific and wildly unfair implications in this already difficult time. All eyes have been on the couple since they first got together in 2012. Naturally, in the wake of his death, those eyes have shifted over to Grande’s social media accounts. Her fans are sending lots of love, kind words, and support her way. However, some absolutely disgusting excuses for human beings have decided to blame her for his fate. These are some of the actual comments verbatim that have been posted on Ariana’s Instagram account since the news broke yesterday… good job killing @macmiller Ariana!!!! What did you do!??? ARE YOU HAPPY NOW ARIANA You see what you did smh YOU DID THIS YOU ANIMAL WHYY U HAD TO LEAVE HIM He was sober before you did this to him I HOPE YOURE HAPPY WITH YOURSELF Macs gone because of you The pop star has been forced to limit commenting on her Instagram posts due to these deeply, unimaginably hurtful words. Only those who follow her are able to leave a message for now. Sadly, this probably won’t totally stop the hateful comments — but it should help. This isn’t the first time Ariana has dealt with Mac’s fanbase blowing up her timeline. When he crashed his car and got a DUI earlier this year, she was blamed for that, too. Hopefully this statement below still carries some weight for those who need to hear it. How absurd that you minimize female self-respect and self-worth by saying someone should stay in a toxic relationship because he wrote an album about them, which btw isn’t the case (just Cinderella is ab me). I am not a babysitter or a mother and no woman should feel that they need to be. I have cared for him and tried to support his sobriety & prayed for his balance for years (and always will of course) but shaming / blaming women for a man’s inability to keep his shit together is a very major problem. Let’s please stop doing that. Of course I didn’t share about how hard or scary it was while it was happening but it was. I will continue to pray from the bottom of my heart that he figures it all out and that any other woman in this position does as well. pic.twitter.com/1GPM6smsBu — Ariana Grande (@ArianaGrande) May 23, 2018 Kevin Mazur / Getty Images for Live Nation This article was first published on Your EDM. Say what you want about Eminem — but he just became the first and only artist to have nine consecutive No. 1 albums. That’s saying something. He just broke UK’s longstanding record previously and jointly held for 36 years by Abba and Led Zeppelin. All thanks to his latest album Kamikaze, a truly uncensored representation of his current artistry and mindset. Though the record dropped with no promo and no warning, Em managed to hit No. 1, no problem. This incredible run dates back 18 years to his second studio album, The Marshall Mathers LP. That classic Eminem is the raw, unapologetic Eminem that we’ve held as a standard for the rest of his work. Whether he hit the bar or severely missed it (depending on who you ask) with each album that followed, he has consistently stayed on top. Today would have been Avicii‘s 29th birthday. In just a short time, the producer’s music touched the lives of millions. From his launch to superstardom in 2013 through the peak of his career and into his final years, he continuously made an impact on dance music — one that will last forever. Hits like “Levels,” “Hey Brother,” and “Wake Me Up” will never go out of style, though they might sound more bittersweet than ever before. After seeing Avicii: True Stories late last year, we were finally let in on what was happening when the lights shut off and the cameras kept rolling. The truth was the man behind the music, Tim Bergling, had fallen victim to his fame. The documentary shared his struggles with the spotlight, health problems faced on the road, and his difficult choice to stop touring altogether. Still, no one realized how deeply Avicii was affected by the years of stress he endured. On April 20, 2018, no one was prepared to hear the devastating news. We had lost a legend and dance music would never be the same. This year has been a tough one, coping with the reality and learning how to keep moving forward without one of the true pioneers of EDM. Take a moment today to reflect on Avicii and his everlasting influence on the music we love so much. Also, if you feel so inclined, share your memories and testimonials here. The past year has been insane for Skellism. The LA-based, Mexican-American duo dropped “In The Pit” with Lil Jon in June 2017 and have been riding that wave since, touring and getting in as much experience as possible before finally following it up. Because with a track like “In The Pit” from a still-rising track, whatever they put out next had to be just as good, if not better. Skellism returns now with “BEASTMODE,” a hard trap banger that trades in the vocal recognition factor of “In The Pit” for a more intense bass experience. The production on “In The Pit” was good for the time, but it was truly Lil Jon’s vocals that sent it over the top. With “BEASTMODE,” Skellism takes all of the energy from Lil Jon’s vocals and implants it into their own production, creating a wild track that screams and shouts at the top of its lungs… just instead of doing it with a voice, it does it with bass. It’s been 15 months since Skellism last dropped a new track, but you can likely expect a lot more new music to come out from here on. Check out “BEASTMODE” below. ZHU released the first part of RINGOS DESERT in April, giving fans a little over four months to sit with those seven incredible songs and fully play them out – even potentially giving them enough time to get overplayed. To release the full album with Pt1 entirely intact, in the same order, before the new songs, is bold to say the least. With seven additional songs added to the final version of the album, fans are forced to sit through the seven songs they’ve already been playing for almost half of this year. But the thing about ZHU’s music is that we really don’t care – it’s that good. To truly appreciate the latter half of RINGOS DESERT, it’s necessary to entirely absorb the first. Going through “Guilty Love,” “Burn Babylon,” and everything else gives context and a more rigid framework for the later songs like “Ghost In My Bed,” “Love That Hurts,” and the rest. At its core, RINGOS DESERT plays like a love album, but it’s more about the struggle surrounding love than the thrill of experiencing it. Songs like “Guilty Love” paint a picture of a forbidden tryst, while “Love That Hurts” delivers a far more unambiguous reference. It’s hard to conceive a way in which ZHU could have created a more diverse and immersive experience within his own sound than what he did on this album. Each song is unmistakably ZHU, a result of a carefully crafted brand and soundscape that he’s developed ever since he dropped his remix of “Moves Like Ms. Jackson” four years ago. New to his sound are greater risks, more varied instrumentation, and a clearer sense of courage in the sound he chooses to present. Separating the full album from the admittedly dangerous release plan is difficult, but it’s worth it to listen to the album all the way through to truly get the full effect. Experience all the pain, the sorrow, the intense passion on RINGOS DESERT from ZHU below. This article was first published on Your EDM. Diplo & Mark Ronson’s collaborative project Silk City returns today with their fourth single and possibly biggest yet, “Electricity” featuring Dua Lipa. The “New Rules” singer gives the massively house-inclined track a dose of powerful female energy. “Electricity” embodies the house vibes of early Detroit and Chicago warehouse days with a modern polish and a heavy-handed bassline that should pound the chests of anyone on a proper system. The groove is absolutely electric and just makes you want to dance. This single is also the third in a row of singles with matching track art, implying the tracks could potentially be part of a bigger project dropping soon in the future. Aside from two 1788-L songs, Zeds Dead also debuted one of their own IDs at Red Rocks this past July. Welcoming Tzar on stage at the end of their set on the first night, Zeds Dead played out “We Could Be Kings” with DNMO. Now, that song is finally out and we can hear it in all its high def glory. “We Could Be Kings” falls more in line with Northern Lights than some of their more recent, harder singles. The melody is soft and serene and the drop is powerful, but not harsh. The bass feels warm and enticing, like a portal to another dimension that ends up at a beach on a day with perfect weather. Tzar’s voice melts effortlessly atop the production, a processing technique that Zeds Dead have perfected over the years and years that they’ve been putting out top notch tracks. Check it out below! Music lost another amazing talent today in Mac Miller. The 26-year-old superstar died from an apparent drug overdose, according to reports. It seems the entire music world is grieving as we remember a true talent, one of hip hop’s greatest voices, and what many consider a legend. Words from The Chainsmokers, Alison Wonderland, The Glitch Mob Snails and more are a testament to Mac Miller’s impact on the industry. Jauz speaks up about the real issue here: “This shit has to stop. I know our culture has a lot of drug use and I’m not trying to tell you what to do with your lives, but please, if you’re going to do ANYTHING, at a show or a festival or whatever, at least get it tested. His latest album Swimming came out just a month ago. RIP. RIP Mac Miller Never had the chance to meet Mac Miller but was a huge fan of his music. Our prayers go out to his family and friends.
