Earlier this week, Alesso announced he’s be releasing a new single today entitled “Remedy.” In speaking with Billboard Dance, he said, “I always strive to create music that feels a year ahead, and ‘Remedy’ sounds like 2019 already to me. So launching the track and creating future progressive music, with such a progressive team [10:22pm] is a perfect fit for me.” Well, “Remedy” with Conor Maynard (who is curiously absent from the Spotify credits) is out now and I’m here to say: it’s pop. It’s not future progressive, and it most certainly does not sound like 2019. It’s your pretty basic, run of the mill pop music. “Remedy” isn’t a bad song, let’s get that out of the way right now. If it came up on the radio, it’s not like I’d be racing for the dial to change the channel. But to label it as so inspired and futuristic that it’s essentially “a year ahead of its time” is ironically shortsighted. It has a vaguely dancehall-like rhythm, which Major Lazer has already more than saturated on pop radio, as well as pop male vocals and a soft piano notes. Nothing about this song is progressive or innovative as much as Alesso would like to claim it is. Again, “Remedy” is not a bad song, and I’d still jam out to it on a drive to the grocery store. But for Alesso to say “I always strive to create music that feels a year ahead,” I just don’t hear it. Listen below and let me know if you agree. San Holo follows up “worthy” and “lift me from the ground” from his debut album album1 with the new “brighter days” featuring Bipolar Sunshine. Bipolar Sunshine, real name Adio Marchant, seems to be the perfect accompaniment to this new single, putting forth dulcet notes that present both a hopeful tone and a somewhat somber one (as his name Bipolar Sunshine might suggest). “brighter days” is that same kind of sad hopefulness, lamenting the past while looking toward the future. With three singles now under our belts, the sonic vision of album1 is becoming to come into focus. This isn’t the same EDM albums you’re used to hearing this year as San Holo attempts to bridge prog rock into dance music, creating his own unique lane and discovering his own identity as a musician. We couldn’t be more excited to hear the final product, whenever it’s out – no release date has yet been announced. Check out “brighter days” below. San Holo – brighter days [Lyrics] [Intro] Oh [Verse 1] Vivid visions of us carry on Think I’ve found the light it’s been so long I better hold on to this feeling before it’s gone Whatever happened we both grew as time moved on Oh-oh [Chorus] Feels like I’m the only one Looking at blue skies, dreaming of old times Brighter days will come Looking at blue skies, with you in my mind I’m the only one, brighter days will come Am I the only one? Looking at blue skies, dreaming of old times [Post-Chorus] Brighter days will Brighter days will Brighter days will Brighter days will come Dreaming of old times Brighter days will Brighter days will Brighter days will Brighter days will come Dreaming of old times [Verse 2] Flying higher, I’m ten feet off the ground (off the ground) I see it all even when looking down Don’t wanna hold on to the times you were around No longer hear you voice when there’s no single sound [Chorus] Feels like I’m the only one Looking at blue skies, dreaming of old times Brighter days will come Looking at blue skies, with you in my mind I’m the only one, brighter days will come Am I the only one? Looking at blue skies, dreaming of old times [Post-Chorus] Brighter days will Brighter days will Brighter days will Brighter days will come Dreaming of old times Brighter days will Brighter days will Brighter days will Brighter days will come [Outro] Brighter days, ter days, ter days, ter days will Brighter days, ter days, ter days, ter days will Brighter days, ter days, ter days, ter days will Brighter days, ter days, ter days, ter days will Brighter days will come This article was first published on Your EDM. Do you believe in ANGELZ? Because, we do. The producer just hit us with an absolutely fire new single, “Letter After F” and there’s plenty more where that came form. ANGELZ, known for his distinct style of g-house, is gearing up to release Saint Thug III. “Letter After F” sets the pace as the first single from the 5-track, tech-house, UK-garage and hip-hop infused EP. With Confession-released parts I and II under his belt, this installment of the yearly series will be self-released via Maison Sante this time around. Giving a strong nod to “Still Tippin‘” — ANGELZ perfectly samples the Swishahouse hip hop classic with Mike Jones, Slim Thug and Paul Wall. That hint of familiarity is an automatic hook as the producer goes in, serving up his own pristine kind of clean production that sounds oh so filthy at the same time. Listen below and become a believer. Don’t forget to check back to hear the entire Saint Thug III EP when it drops September 6th. Without warning, Eminem dropped a new album on us — and this is the Eminem we all know and love. From the get go, it’s obvious that classic Em sound is still in there. With his newly unleashed, 13-track Kamikaze record, the rapper surprisingly tones down his crazy antics for an amazing result. Much of the time, it’s just his flow and the beat, which is all he needs to keep us fully engaged. It’s a good thing, because we were sincerely worried when Revival not only didn’t live up to expectations, but severely undercut them. But, Eminem has never been afraid to poke fun at himself. Revival didn’t go viral… he raps during, “Greatest,” with a perfectly delivered Kendrick Lamar inflection. “Tried not 2 overthink this 1… enjoy,” he tweeted out with the link to the album. And, it wouldn’t be an Eminem album without some insults. President Donald Trump, Tyler the Creator, Machine Gun Kelly and more are targeted in Kamikaze. Em has some choice words for mumble rappers, too. He’s baaaack! Eminem – Kamikaze Get it: http://shady.sr/Kamikaze This article was first published on Your EDM. Party Thieves has a consistent history of abrasive and insane tracks, so it’s no surprise that his new collab with Gladez, “Death Blow,” comes as another in a long line of face-melting bangers. It’s been a while since we’ve heard some serious tearout trap like this, seemingly bridging the gap between riddim with 808s galore and dark, muddled synths. The track almost seems too simple for how little else is going on beside the drop production, but listening closely on any even mildly advanced speakers belies a secret underneath… this track is seriously insane. The simplicity, it turns out, is simply in the arrangement. It’s for sure a trap song, there’s no denying that, and that’s by design. It’s like looking at a stock Nissan 370z and not realizing that there’s been some major modifications under the hood – because when it comes off that starting line, it’s already leaving you far behind. Steve Aoki’s “Lie To Me,” with Ina Wroldsen, released this past July, is a slow and emotional deep house song that makes more use of time stretched synths and powerful female vocals than any kind of crazy production. In fact, the main chorus in the song sounds like it would be leading up to a more powerful drop in any “typical” Aoki production, but instead he keeps it more chill. Well, contrary to the original, Curbi wasn’t interested in suppressing the inherent energy in the “Lie To Me.” Released on the Lie To Me Remixes Pt 2 today, Curbi’s take on the track a chaotic and fervent interpretation that puts the stank on ya face and conjures images of a stroble-lit dark basement, rather than a calm stroll down some west coast boardwalk. “Steve asked me to remix the track and I was already hooked on the vocal so it was a no brainer to remix it. As with all my remixes, I grabbed it by the balls and threw some heavy sounds in it to make it a club stomper haha. Happy with the result!” – Curbi Listen to the full Remixes Part 2 package with Nicky Romero and Maurice West here, but check out Curbi’s remix right now below! LSD, the super group made of Labrinth, Sia, and Diplo, dropped their newest single “Thunderclouds” earlier this month, and have now followed up with the official music video. Maddie Ziegler, an American dancer, actress and model, stars in the music video. She plays the character of an adventurer in a supernatural world of flying cars and strange creatures, accompanied by Diplo as the bus driver and Labrinth as a spiritual guide of some sort. It’s part Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, part Neverending Story, and 100% worth a watch. It’s already trending #2 on YouTube after dropping today with more than 1.2 million views. Eric Prydz has outdone himself again — this time with his extraordinary HOLO production, which he completely wowed Creamfields 2018 with over the weekend. This brand new live show followed up the producer’s EPIC 5.0 presentation with even more impressive visuals. Just when we thought these holograms couldn’t be any more mind-blowing, well, Prydz and his team delivered with this HOLO concept that you’ll have to see to believe. Creamfields proved to be the perfect setting for the HOLO finale, back where EPIC 5.0 took place at London’s Steel Yard. Naturally, the production was well-received by the massive crowd as Prydz delivered yet another top notch performance. “Thank you Creamfields and the UK,” Prydz wrote following the show. “That was truly special.” No matter what screen or device you’re watching from, this two-hour long set is sure to challenge your imagination and leave you mesmorized. Techno purists: do not fret. Genre lines continue to blur, and Jauz is the latest artist to try his hand at a genre outside his usual stomping grounds. Known for his bass house and dubstep productions, Jauz has released a techno track to preview his new album. “Acid or Techno” is the latest single from The Wise and The Wicked, Jauz’s debut album releasing tomorrow, August 31. This single finds Jauz exploring a techno sound, including a thick, catchy bassline, mesmerizing percussion and a clever sample posing a simple question: “acid or techno?” It wouldn’t be a track from Jauz without a typical EDM build-up, the part coming closest to the acid side of the question posed by the track title and sample. However, the listener receives a more techno drop than expected: the “drop” builds upon the previous elements and subtly adds more layers. Even techno snobs may be proud. Jauz detailed the making of “Acid or Techno” in an interview with Magnetic Mag, who also premiered the track. He apparently came up with the idea of the track in 15 minutes late at night, but forgot about it. He later showed it to Snails as a bit of a joke, but Snails suggested Jauz hold onto the track instead of leaving it behind. (Those two ended up with “Motherfuckers,” which is sort of an acid techno tune itself.) Jauz decided to release the track with his new album, saying it represented the no frills aspects of his album perfectly. Will this catch the attention of Drumcode fanboys or neonGARDEN-heads? Maybe. Could this track convert some dub fans into techno appreciators? Who knows. Either way, we welcome the experiment. Listen to “Acid or Techno” below, and check back tomorrow to hear The Wise and The Wicked in full. Cover Photo: Rukes This article was first published on Your EDM. Even as Zedd’s song “The Middle” continues to reign supreme, he has to shift his focus to promoting his newest song, “Happy Now,” with Elley Duhé. The poppy song with a dark twist has been doing well for the producer, especially as he’s been touring in Australia and New Zealand with Katy Perry, and now he’s giving back to fans. Zedd posted a video today in which he surprises a fan in Glendale, California at her home with some “happy now” balloons. She seems genuinely ecstatic to see him (who wouldn’t be) and it’ll be a memory she keeps for the rest of her life. It’s unclear if this will be a recurring thing with Zedd, surprising fans at their homes, but at least this one fan is happy now. I wanted to give back to my fans for the amazing support throughout the years, so I decided to surprise a fan. pic.twitter.com/QbBPfeQsEU — Zedd (@Zedd) August 30, 2018 This article was first published on Your EDM. A new marijuana dispensary in Koreatown, Los Angeles has opened up. It’s nothing new in the city, dispensaries are always coming and going. The issue with this particular dispensary is its name and branding, which strongly (read: exactly) resemble that of producer/DJ, Kaskade. The Kaskade Collective sells a variety of cannabis products, from flower to edibles. Unfortunately, the name Kaskade is trademarked by the DJ, who also happens to be a devout Mormon – a religion which has explicitly banned cannabis since 1915. The association between the DJ and the Collective is troublesome for the former and his team, who were “taken by surprise” when they learned of the dispensary’s existence. Magnetic Mag reached out to Kaskade’s team, who said that the dispensary has agreed to change its name in the next five days, avoiding legal action. It’s hard to believe the dispensary wasn’t aware of who Kaskade was, considering his name is often plastered on billboards all across Hollywood. Nevertheless, this story seems to have a happy ending. Here’s DJ Kaskade’s logo for comparison. H/T Magnetic Magazine | Photo via Rukes.com This article was first published on Your EDM. In one of the most unexpected collaborations of the year, David Guetta has teamed up with Black Coffee for deep house stunner — “Drive” featuring Delilah Montagu. This low key track is the definition of easy listening. Vocals, with no pun intended, drive the song forward as Black Coffee and David Guetta meet in the middle with a silky blend of electronica and South African house. Considering how long both of these producers have been in the game, it’s a wonder it took them this long to work together. However, their go-to styles aren’t typically this in sync. “This project has been a very unique and cool experience,” Black Coffee explains. “I’ve stepped a bit out of my comfort zone, but music always wins.” “Drive” is just one of the many collaborations forthcoming on David Guetta’s next album 7. Other credits including Anne-Marie, Sia, J. Balvin, Martin Garrix, Steve Aoki and Justin Bieber prove Guetta truly is the king of collabs. It isn’t everyday that commercial EDM and the underground cross paths like this, but we know a good thing when we hear it. Enjoy! Black Coffee & David Guetta – Drive ft. XXXTentacion was gunned down June 18. His hundreds of thousands of fans mourned his death, while his critics continued to point out the many legal troubles he had faced. He also left behind a lot of unreleased music, including “Voss” with Sauce Walka. The track is set to appear on rapper Sauce Walka’s forthcoming mixtape, Drip God, but it looks like Carnage already has his sights set on a remix. Carnage posted the following video yesterday on Instagram with some added bass and 808s, conveying a remix was playing rather than the original. Along with some dance moves from Carnage, the video pans out to what appears to be a resort-side ocean. No further details are available about the remix at this time, but it’s no surprise that Carnage, if anyone, decided to remix XXX. Check out the preview below. Zedd has toured the world as a headlining DJ and musician, but he’s spent the last two weeks in rare form as an opener with none other than international mega-star Katy Perry. While he has the ability to turn Australia and New Zealand on his own, the audience exposure with Katy Perry on the bill is invaluable for the artist who’s been breaking into the pop realm. And while the video is nice and all, fans are excited for a different reason. Pretty soon into the video, there’s a clip of Zedd and Katy in the studio together, unsurprisingly sparking rumors of a forthcoming collaboration. Zedd has worked with Eva Simons, Lindsey Stirling, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, and even Thirty Seconds To Mars, so there’s no reason to think a Katy Perry collaboration isn’t within the realm of possibilities. However, other than this brief clip, there’s no other evidence. Then again, when you’re an artist of Zedd’s size, every small detail is scrutinized and executed with a purpose. Check out the video below. Can’t find an appropriate caption to sum up all the amazing things I’ve experienced in 2 weeks in AU / NZ! Celldweller is a pretty big artist in his own lane, and Neonlight is a fast up-and-coming drum & bass duo out of Germany, and now they’ve come together for a remix of the former’s “Louder Than Words.” With Celldweller’s vocals already stunningly produced, there wasn’t much for Neonlight to do except pump up the tempo and turn this into a wild 174 banger. The original rock-meets-electronic song is transformed into a fully realized heater with new synths and a tantalizing arrangement. “Working on ‘Louder Than Words’ was pure fun! There are really a lot of details in the original, so we had plenty of ideas what to do with the audio files. We focused on the main vocals and transferred the chord progression to our remix. Rolling beats and an uplifting hookline combined with funky reese basses rounded up the arrangement.” – Tobi & Jakob (Neonlight) The energy on Neonlight’s “Louder Than Words” remix never stops! The larger drum and bass scene hasn’t seen much from liquid masters Villem & McLeod this year. Villem released a track with Addiction on V Recordings back in May and the duo have been releasing sample packs, but now we know the real reason for their general radio silence. A massive LP called Playing the Changes from the chill DnB duo is due out September 14 and it was definitely worth waiting for. As has come to be expected from Villem & McCleod releases, Playing the Changes contains that lovely balance of floaty, fluid liquid melodies with well-places snares and heavy sub bass that has made these two famous. Jazzy, R&B surprises like “Crossways” feat. Degs and legit jungle in tracks like “Quay Side” grace the album but the biggest surprise lies in a track called “Simply Red.” Fans mustn’t be too quick to categorize “Simply Red” as outside of the realm of liquid DnB just because it doesn’t have a classic 174 BPM beat to it. Reminiscent of the heyday of liquid and ambient rave music (see A Forest Called Mulu or An Endless Journey Vol. 2 for reference), this track is definitely more in the breaks or downtempo register beat-wise, yet there is something definitively DnB about “Simply Red.” The most obvious reason is the pulsing bass and sub bass register that comes through every other phrase and sort of winds its way around the quite sparse ambient melody. There are also hints of broken up amen breaks which spur the track along, making the track both danceable and infinitely relaxing. In the late 90s and early 00s, it was quite common for ambient and liquid DnB LPs to have a few trip hop, breaks or downtempo tracks to put a bit of a break in the action and give listeners a variation on the themes in said LPs. It seems this may be what Villem & McLeod were doing with “Simply Red” on Playing the Changes; reminding fans about the diversity in liquid and ambient DnB and also perhaps coaxing this literally fluid genre to start changing again. Either way, “Simply Red” and its entire album are a mastery of the form and a beautiful example of just how many arms of DnB there are to sample and enjoy. Playing the Changes will be out on Spearhead Records September 14. Click here to pre-order and check out the other streaming tracks form the album on Spearhead’s Soundcloud. Say what you will about Carnage as a DJ, but there is no doubting his prowess as a festival curator. The notorious DJ/producer is returning with a cavalcade of guests, bringing the latest edition of his RARE festival to Orlando on Saturday, October 6. Carnage will be co-headlining the event along with Wiz Khalifa. The legendary rapper shared co-headlining duties with Carnage at the most recent RARE in Southern California earlier this year. On top of that, Carnage will have two special guests, first is a DJ who would be headlining any other show in his own right, the one and only Steve Aoki. Rapper Kodak Black will also perform a special homecoming set. From there, the lineup will have bassheads salivating; Borgore, Keys N Krates, Barely Alive B2B Virtual Riot and GRAVEDGR, the first signee to Carnage’s own Heavyweight Records. As if that wasn’t enough star power, the lineup will be rounded out by none other than the Big Aristotle, the Hall of Famer, Shaquille O’Neal AKA DJ Diesel. Shaq & Friends will also be taking over the official on-site after-party. There’s no question that Shaq has a special bond with the Orlando area. The Orlando Magic drafted him first overall in the 1992 NBA Draft. From there Shaq won Rookie of the Year, took Orlando to the 1995 NBA Finals and developed into one of the most iconic entertainers on the planet. Well, this is a steal of a deal! College students are getting at home entertainment hooked up thanks to Spotify, which just added Showtime to its $5-a-month Hulu bundle. As if having Spotify and Hulu for that low rate wasn’t cool enough, now the music streaming service has thrown in a Showtime subscription at no extra cost. This dramatically sweetens the deal. According to The Verge, college students in the US will have access to Spotify’s updated Premium for Students plan which includes Spotify Premium ($10 per month), Hulu’s limited commercial plan ($8 per month), and Showtime subscription ($11 per month). Existing student users can simply log in and add Showtime, while new users will get the first three months of service for $0.99. Showtime is also open to potentially joining the Spotify-Hulu bundle for non-student Spotify users for $12.99 a month, but it’s still being negotiated. Alison Wonderland just played a milestone show as her Awake Tour stopped at Bill Graham Civic in San Francisco. The venue, which holds 8,500 people, held her biggest ticketed show (not festival) ever to date. Leading up to the event, the producer admits she was nervous it wouldn’t sell out. But, her loyal fanbase never had any doubt that she would pack it out to make for one of the most massive shows of her entire career. “Pls read,” she starts up a statement, which followed the show: last night I played the @billgrahamcivic in San Francisco for my Awake tour. It holds 8500 people. I was nervous bc I didn’t think that many humans would come. I remember calling my manager Garth freaking out saying things like “I don’t know if I can do this venue etc etc”. Just before the show.. I got a call “holy shit you might sell this out” I ended up SELLING OUT the show. It is my biggest ticketed show to date ever (to be clear it was not a festival..it was my own show). Not only did AW slay behind the decks, but she busted out her favorite instrument and delivered on some rare live vocals. As a performer, Alison Wonderland always goes above and beyond and this night was a prime example of her hard work paying off. She continues: I played cello, sang, played old stuff, played new stuff. I couldn’t believe my view from the stage. It’s so surreal. I just want to say thank to anyone who listens to my music and comes to my shows. I wouldn’t be here without you. Thank u for being there and keeping me going whenever I wanted to give up. I will continue to give you guys my everything. I love you with all my heart. I can’t believe I keep selling out all these type of venues it legit makes me cry when I walk into stage. (ps I included a pic of my manager in here while I was doing soundcheck. He has believed in me from the start when no one else did) Flip through images from the show below and make sure to wish her a huge congratulations on this sell out!
