  1. Lost Lands Music Festival is speaking out following the death of two attendees… Today we send our deepest thoughts and condolences to the loved ones of two male attendees who passed away after being transported to local hospitals this weekend. While the causes of these tragedies are still unknown, our hearts are with their families and friends at this time. The statement also addresses the security, police, and emergency care presence available on site… Our medical facilities are available twenty-four hours a day, free of charge, with the best emergency room doctors, EMTs and roaming paramedics in the country. A full staff of security and police are also available, and we encourage everyone to approach any of our 2000+ team members to ask for help if needed. This story is developing. 2. UPDATE: Official statement via Lost Lands below. Lost Lands Music Festival has been plagued with rumors of possible deaths over the weekend. At at this time, we can unfortunately confirm at least one. Mario Symborski has passed following the music festival in Thornville, Ohio. He is survived by his loving wife and rave partner Brooke Vici-Symborski, who started up a GoFundMe in his honor. “Mario the greatest man I ever know, loved, died today. My best friend is gone,” she shared on Facebook. Later on, she updated again… “The coroner finished the autopsy. Mario had heart problems. Coronary artery disease, enlarged heart and lungs and thickened heart walls. Even one pill could have taken him.” Social media is in an uproar over the possibility of even more Lost Lands casualties. First there was rumored to be one death, then six, then nine or more. The community is absolutely gutted by these possibilities, but the reality is just one death is too many. We have reached out to Lost Lands for comment and are awaiting a response. Our hearts go out to all friends, family and loved ones of Mario. 3. Seven people are dead, five others in comas, and an unknown number have fallen ill following Vietnam Electronic Weekend (VEW), according to several reports. It’s believed this outbreak of suspected overdoses are linked to the same substance. However, police have yet to release an official number of ODs or identify the drug that may have caused this. “Initial reports showed that seven people died and many others are receiving treatments at hospitals,” Vnexpress quoted the district’s spokeswoman, Vo Bich Thuy. Vietnam Electronic Weekend took place at Hanoi Water Park in Tay Ho District and featured EDM headliners including Ben Nicky, Yellow Claw and Headhunterz. One festival goer said there appeared to be 5,000 attendees, “most of them young, stacked in a narrow space with three stages.” Another guest said many were using stimulants. “The incident is especially serious,” an officer said. 4. Mavrick Savvy is a rapper out of Jacksonville, Florida who is trying to push a different sound and shatter the current stereotype of mumble rap out of the south. With his new single and music video called “Paradice,” is seems like this hip hopper is looking to bring back some of the great sounds of the past and modernize them for the new generation. It’s hard to put one’s finger on a specific style in Savvy’s second single, as “Paradice” seems to be one of those productions that sort transcends genre and era. In terms of vocal flow, Savvy is quite modern in his approach with a meter which runs along the beat but also deviates and syncopates to it in a really interesting way. It’s a unique style as it combines a recognizable meter with pauses and beat-steps which many hip hop fans likely haven’t heard before. Lyrically, Savvy’s subject matter is sort of all over the board. In one verse he’ll talk about partying and drugs and the standard pop hip hop subjects, but in the next it might be a little deeper, about his feelings about staying focused on his goals and music. The chorus acknowledges the life he’s chosen is a gamble but claims it’s worth it for his passion and love for hip hop. Beat-wise, Savvy’s work is clean and well-produced but not overly complicated and definitely not any EDM fusion. “Paradice” seems to connote an early-to-mid 2000s vibe while his first single “All the Way Gone” might remind fans of something a bit earlier. These beats along with Savvy’s smooth and wholly unique vocals go together seamlessly and it’s obvious he had a hand in the production. It would be very surprising to find the beats on either track were written for any other rapper and in fact Savvy mentions working in studios in Hollywood before putting out solo tracks, so it seems he isn’t just a one-trick pony and he seems to have a preternatural sense of how beats and vox go together in hip hop. This should serve Savvy well as he continues to move forward in his new venture. For EDM fans who also like straight-up hip hop, Mavrick Savvy’s unique, no-nonsense style is definitely something to keep an eye on as he moves forward. Savvy may not show up at many festivals, but his classic, polished hip hop vibe will likely appeal to fans of EDM and many other genres just the same. “Paradice” by Mavrick Savvy is out now and can be streamed on Spotify. 5. Shaq aka DJ Diesel threw down at Lost Lands Music Festival today — and it was nothing short of legendary! Fans were pretty shocked when the special guest turned out to be Shaquille O’Neal, but he proved right away that he doesn’t mess around when it comes to bass music. Just a half hour surprise set was all it took to be the talk of the entire festival. He was truly a part of the experience and even dedicated some time to take photos with festival goers. Backstage he dunked on a dinosaur, which is probably the most Lost Lands thing we’ve ever heard. Social media is blowing up with posts about DJ Diesel, which means we can relive some of the most amazing moments below. Watching Shaq play riddim is honestly one of the most epic things we’ve seen. 7. Now, we’ve seen it all. The VIP section at Ultra Japan got lit up over the weekend when Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao randomly bumped into each other outside of the ring. Video footage of the standoff between the champion boxers shows a verbal confrontation between the two. From the looks of it, these guys are far from finished with this fight. Mayweather appears louder and much more smug in the videos below, but Pacquiao never backs down until he eventually turns his back and walks off. “I’m coming back to fight Manny Pacquiao this year” Mayweather shares. “Another 9 figure pay day on the way.” “50-1 #NoExcuses,” Pacquiao fires back. Apparently Mayweather is coming out of retirement to fight his greatest rival. The rematch is expected for December, so place your bets. 8. A little over two years since it was released, The Chainsmokers & Halsey’s “Closer” has officially gone diamond in the US, selling 10 million equivalent units. The Chainsmokers were presented with their plaques by Jimmy Kimmel, on whose show they also performed their new single “Side Effects” with Emily Warren. The Chainsmokers wrote: “CLOSER is officially DIAMOND in the U.S. !! we could have never imagined having one of our songs going 10x platinum. we wrote this song with @freddykennett and @shaunfrank in the back of our tour bus 3 years ago thinking it would be fun a record for our friends to jam to, nothing more, congrats boys!” Halsey, on the other hand, hasn’t been home to open her plaque since she’s been touring so much. “Been on tour for a hundred years so I haven’t even gotten home yet to unwrap this baby. CLOSER IS CERTIFIED DIAMOND! 10 times platinum! TEN MILLION! In just 2 years. Thank you to every single beautiful little heart that sang this song at the top of their lungs.” This article was first published on Your EDM. 9. Lost Lands fam! Make sure you’re staying safe out there, as inclement weather is expected to wash out the campgrounds overnight. Attendees are under specific instructions for leaving the festival, and should be mindful of the following exit plan. First up, headliners are being pushed up, so music will run from 2 pm through midnight tonight. Organizers strongly recommend cleaning/packing up camp before you head into the festival and leaving directly after the event. It’s important to have a sober driver. If you have to stay on the festival grounds overnight, make sure to sleep in your vehicle, not a tent. There is a good chance that leaving the festival in the morning could cause longer wait times. Read over the full safety plan carefully and always be aware of your surroundings as weather progresses tonight. Lost Lands Safety Message This article was first published on Your EDM. 10. Two attendees are dead after attending Defqon.1 Festival in Sydney, reports local authorities. A man, 23, and a woman, 21, collapsed at the festival around 9pm on Saturday and died a short time later in nearby Nepean hospital, police said on Sunday. The festival has reportedly been rampant with drug use this year, with 13 people transported to a hospital for drug-related issues while another 700 people sought assistance from medical staff on-site. Three people who were transported to hospitals are in critical condition, a Jamisontown woman, 26, who is at Nepean hospital, and an Artarmon man, 19, who was flown to Westmead hospital and is in intensive care. Another man is in a critical condition at Liverpool hospital. The festival has a zero-tolerance policy on drug use. “This means that all types of soft- and hard drugs are prohibited. If drugs are found, you will be handed over to the police,” a statement on the festival’s website said. The premier of the Australian state of New South Wales, Gladys Berejiklian, has vowed to get the festival banned. “I’m absolutely aghast at what has occurred,” she said, “I don’t want any family to go through the tragedy that some families are waking up to this morning, it’s just horrible to think about. “We will do everything we can to shut this down. I don’t want to see this event happen again. Young lives lost for no no reason.” via Daily Star, Guardian This article was first published on Your EDM. 11. I love it when artists remix themselves. After all, there’s nobody that really knows a song quite like the person who originally wrote it – making them the perfect remixing party actually. That’s exactly what we’ve got here today with Mickey Kojak delivering a remix of himself for “Get Out.” Dubbed the ‘Mickey’s ’07 Club Edit,’ this remix is a bouncy house track that is perfect for the club. A deep grooving bass line complete with great sound design and the catchy original hook are all highlights of this big club edit. Check it out below! This article was first published on Your EDM. 12. For anyone who has ever wondered what it’s like to fall in love with a “White Boi,” Dillon Francis has you covered. From his forthcoming Spanish album Wut Wut comes the fresh new track “White Boi,” and a vibey music video to go with it. The producer consistently turns heads with his cultural dance music concoctions, and this one really helps to set the tone for his latest project. We love the chilled out energy Francis puts down on the track, but it’s Lao Ra who really sells it. No translator is necessary to feel the lyrics she delivers with such precision. Her voice is enough to make “White Boi” your latest obsession. Wut Wut is due out September 28 — and this is just a taste! Dillon Francis – White Boi ft. 13. Snails just unleashed an absolutely insane remix pack featuring Kill the Noise, Svdden Death, Space Jesus, Virtual Riot, FuntCase and more. Naturally, it’s bass heavy by design and right away, takes on the role of any rail rider’s favorite soundtrack. This is not for the lighthearted. Just one look at the album art and it’s easy to see you’re about to be destroyed. The Shell album originally released on October 20, 2017. Nearly a year later, it’s awesome to hear how these producers tackle the release. We’re particularly impressed by FuntCase’s take on “Forever.” Also, lookout for “Only Want U,” remixed by Kill the Noise. And please, brace yourselves before hitting play on the “King Is Back” remix from Mastadon. With the launch of Slugz Music, Snails has a home for his music and others, who are encouraged to be as outrageous as they want to be. “I want to release music that really inspires me and is just as weird as me,” Snails quips. 14. Shazam has always been the go-to app for music identification out in the wild, but Google is looking to strong arm its way into the ID game with an improved sound search function tied to Google Assistant. This weekend Google integrated its Sound Search function into Now Playing, a music recognition feature. This has enabled quicker and more accurate recognition of songs. To use the service, start a voice query. If there’s music playing near you, the app or device will ask, “What’s this song?” Clicking on a pop-up will start the identification process. You can also ask, “Hey Google, what’s this song?” “We still think there’s room for improvement though — we don’t always match when music is very quiet or in very noisy environments, and we believe we can make the system even faster,” Google wrote in a blog post. “We are continuing to work on these challenges with the goal of providing the next generation in music recognition.” The service is available on any Pixel or Android-based phone. 15. Either you love, or love to hate Kanye West and Lil Pump‘s new track “I Love It” featuring Adele Givens. Regardless, the meme-worthy music video just broke the YouTube record for most plays in a week. The official “I Love It” music video has amassed over 76 million views in just seven days. That’s more than Childish Gambino‘s “This Is America” pulled in during that same timeframe. As Complex points out, Kanye West usually “drops off the face of the earth” following a big release (i.e. Yeezus, The Life of Pablo). However, after two huge releases this summer with ye and Kids See Ghosts, he’s still cranking out those viral hits like it’s nothing. Currently, “I Love It” has racked up 88,452,278 views and counting. Watch it again right here! Kanye West & Lil Pump ft. 16. Spotify has long placed a limit on downloading songs offline from its streaming service, capping users at 10,000 tracks (3,333 tracks per device, with a three-device limit, to be precise). Now, without much announcement from Spotify, the limit seems to have been lifted. Some power users discovered they were able to surpass the 3,333 song limit this week, and a Spotify spokesperson confirmed the update to Rolling Stone. “At Spotify, we’re always working on improving the experience for our users. We can now confirm that we have increased the number of offline tracks per device — from 3,333 on three devices to 10,000 tracks per device for up to five devices,” a Spotify spokesperson says. Though the limit has been in place for a while, it became a bigger deal this past July when Ooah of The Glitch Mob made a statement about it on Twitter, spreading to other artists and users. The new 50,000 limit isn’t unlimited, but it’s still a vast improvement over the previous 10,000. Users can make use of the update now. via Rolling Stone This article was first published on Your EDM. 19. Don Diablo’s music is instantly recognizable from the synths and vibe he brings to his production, and its earned him equal parts praise and criticism. Consistency from an artist can be a strength, but it turns into a weakness when that consistency turns into staleness. Thankfully, his new song “Survive” with Emeli Sandé & Gucci Mane is an entirely new side to the producer that we’re absolutely vibing with. It’s a subdued house beat carried by Sandé’s and Gucci’s vocals, creating a radio-friendly vibe that still appeals to the true EDM-heads in his fanbase. We can’t say that this was a collaboration we were particularly looking forward to this year, but now that it’s here, it’s definitely going to be on repeat. Check out “Survive” below. 20. Mark your calendars — The Chainsmokers and Kelsea Ballerini are officially teaming up together and the release date for their new single is set for September 18. Talks of a collab between these superstar acts began years ago, and now it’s finally coming together. In just four days, their worlds will collide for what’s expected to be a country pop crossover track, what else?! Both fan bases are naturally hyped to hear this unique musical combo. “Yes this is true and the songs really sick,” TCS confirm on Reddit. “This has been a making in the while. Kelsea is a good homie of ours and we both have always said we would love to worth together. The track suits her perfectly and is catchy as hell! Excited for you all to hear it!” More than ever, the lines of genres have blurred. We’ve heard Zedd and Grey team up with Maren Morris., and Alesso and Hailee Steinfeld with Florida Georgia Line. 21. San Holo is readying us for his debut album release with a brand new song — and a mini mix courtesy of SLAM! First up, San’s “forever free” with Duskus is out today. The six-minute track builds an entire world around a vibe. It’s one of those tracks that’s kind of hard to put into words because it truly speaks for itself. This release joins “lift me from the ground” / “worthy” and “brighter days” as album1 begins to take form. Now for the mini mix. The 20-minute spin sesh is packed full of new IDs to look our for, as well as fan favorites. Working the decks to the max, San shows us some absolutely stunning, melodic moments and builds up plenty of hype in a short time. He caps it all off with a remix of “Light” from fellow bitbird artist EASTGHOST for a spectacular finish. This past year of the producer’s life has revolved around his forthcoming release, so it’s beyond exciting to watch him play some of the tracks out live. We’re all ears for album1, due out September 21 — and this is only just a glimpse of what’s to come. Pre-order album1 here. San Holo – Forever Free San Holo – SLAM! 22. There’s Armin, there’s Above & Beyond, and then there’s Shane 54. Shane is a legend by all standards, being 1/2 of one of electronic music’s biggest international duos, Myon & Shane 54, who dominated the world of trance music for nearly a decade. With hits like “Strangers” and the euphoric remix to Andain’s “Promises”, these guys definitely left an unforgettable imprint in the scene. They split nearly two years ago (more on that later), with each going their separate ways, and for Shane, it was quite an intense journey to get to where he is now. Shane has been a busy man this year, with some huge releases including his retake on the classic “Dark Train” and his collaboration “Budokan” with Cubicore on Armada that also was featured on Armin’s A State of Trance 2018 – Ibiza compilation album. I was honored to be able to interview Shane, one of my personal heroes, about this journey, especially dealing with the departure from Myon & Shane 54, sorting through additional life-changing issues, healing, and getting back to himself to where he’s now in charge of a highly successful radio show, International Departures, just provided the Anjunabeats Worldwide mix, and is releasing his biggest track yet, “Out of Time”, with Cubicore and Eric Lumiere. ‘International Departures’ has been a trending radio show on Mixcloud for some time now, and now you’ve added a live video element. Can you tell us a little more about that? I’ve always wanted to do something that hasn’t been done before. The ‘International Departures’ format hasn’t really changed since 2009 and it was time to do something new, something fresh. It’s a huge opportunity to do go deeper with a radio show. I’ve always wanted to do this, it’s always been in the back of my head to have a visual companion to the mixes, but I’ve never taken the brave step to go forward and do it until now. These video episodes are unlike any other show, since no one else has a full on one hour video to every single episode. It’s a huge amount of fun! I’m actually getting myself an animator program, which I’m really excited about, so I can execute my newly found visions. You were a part of Trance music’s most successful international duo’s and it all seemed to end instantly. How did the breakup impact you? How did it affect your life? When MS54 broke up it was really hard. Even though the end was inevitable, when it was over, it was still a shock. We let our fans down and I still felt horrible about it. At the same time, my marriage fell apart and it was all so overwhelming. At the end, it was really bad. It’s very hard to imagine how being in an international DJ duo could be bad for you but trust me, it can be if things aren’t going smoothly. You’re touring all of the time, doing whatever you can to not face the harsh reality that you know this thing is falling apart. There’s a lot of strain that you hope people won’t notice, pressure to keep releasing new singles, and through all of it you can get to a very bad place where you find yourself drinking so much, just to cope, that you don’t even realize how much you’re drinking. I think a lot of DJ’s go through this phase of having to cope with tough things and again, it sounds so harsh because people think it’s such a glamorous lifestyle, but you can really get depressed out there. Depression was knocking on my door, and I answered. It took a toll in every facet of my life. It took at least a year and a half until I could take a breath and sort out my personal issues. How did you manage to get through all of this, the divorce, the drinking, the breakup, and then make it back creating music and being an artist? When MS54 was over I was a mess personally and professionally. Everything was all over the place and I couldn’t find the way out. In addition to my band breaking up, I had a daughter to support, a soon to be ex-wife I was constantly battling with, and I had way too many feelings that I wasn’t dealing with. Frankly, I didn’t even know what to take care of or cry about first. I had to sit back and seriously rethink everything, starting with my personal life. I had to face my problems head on. I had to go through a phase where literally everybody disappeared around me, just a handful of people stayed. I had to focus on my daughter and being the best dad I could be. . I finally got separated, I started to build my own life up again and finally the songs started to emerge. It’s funny, as I started to feel whole as a person, it was then that I started to rediscover my creative voice. What I learned is that sometimes you need a little time and a little space away from everything. Sometimes life just lets you know when you need to take a pause and sit down and think. By the end of 2017 when the “Return To Love” record came out on Armada, that was the first point when I started to realize ‘hey, I might have something again’. If you’re not right in your soul, you can only make broken music, and I don’t think that’s the kind of music that I want to make. Your brand new single, ‘Out Of Time’, with Cubicore & Eric Lumiere came out today! How did all of this come together? “Out Of Time” has a special sound and special vibe and overall it sounds like a big hit to me. The track actually started around a vocal demo that I had sung. The Cubicore guys, who I’m good friends with, and I kept hammering away at it until we got to the point that the track surpassed the quality of the song I was signing. We knew then that we needed someone special to write a vocal that would finish the quest for the perfect song. That’s when Eric came in and delivered. I was a huge fan already when we first talked on the phone, but when he sent me his first demo, I was simply and utterly blown away. I remember I was like ‘holyyyy sh!t!’ Even in its demo form, it was breathtaking. When I gave the song to Jono a month ago, the track emerged on ABGT almost immediately, and I’m so happy we now get to release it. It feels like this is finally me, back. 25. Kanye West and Lil Pump‘s new track “I Love It” has been gaining massive attention for many reasons — the beat, the music video, the subject matter. Now, the hip hop producer’s use of sampling is up for discussion as DJ David Morales points out, “that is my bassline!” The acclaimed house producer calls into question the track’s apparent use of an unauthorized sample from his Dee Red Zone Mix of “What Is This Thing Called Love” by Alexander O’Neal. When you hear it, well, it’s hard to disagree with the man… “So yes, that is my bass line that I did over 25 years ago,” Morales states on camera. “Nobody asked me any permission. Nobody gave me any love. No points. No royalties. Not even a coupon at Walmart. Daaaamn! You know what I’m saying?” “But nonetheless, I’m going on record — this is my bass line.” Kanye West, Ronny J, CBMix, and DJ Clark Kent are credited with producing the new single.
