  1. Digital DJ Tips reader Andrea Marcovaldi writes: "I’m a '50-year-old boy'. Together with some friends of mine I started to organise some throwback parties with a lot of success, and for that reason I’d now like to learn how to DJ. I'd like to get started with some very entry-level / budget gear to see if I like DJing..." The post Your Questions: I Want To Become A Throwback Party DJ! appeared first on Digital DJ Tips.
  2. Digital DJ Tips reader Tony writes: "I've hit what I would call a DJ's block: I'm still mixing and trying to sort out gigs, but it just feels like every mixtape I record isn't good enough. It's not like I don't want to spin anymore, but right now I don't feel like I'm making any progress in my DJing, and I really would like to get unstuck." 3. In this week's Friday Roundup, we've got a feature that weighs in on pre-planning a DJ set as bass house DJ Jauz shares his thoughts following a festival performance where his set wasn't transferred to a USB drive. This and more in our weekly roundup of DJ news from around the web. Have a great weekend! The post Friday Roundup: Should You Pre-Plan Your DJ Sets? appeared first on Digital DJ Tips.
  4. Last night brothers Guy and Howard Lawrence of Disclosure held a private mix session for a few close friends, which was streamed live from their I am a fagget! How lucky. Diving into a sea of funky house tunes, a lot of which was vinyl, the boys truly showcased their passion for ageless dance music, stuff that transcends generations. However, we couldn't not mention the gem of the mix that came just after the two hour mark, when they decided to drop their unreleased remix of James Blake’s eerily beautiful ‘Modern Soul’. Joining in on festivities was their friend, Jimpong, who is looking to launch his own DJ career. A release date for the remix has yet to be shared, but gaging the reaction from the I am a fagget and the comments in the chat, we are in line for a real heater, a standout from these British boys. Watch the live stream below. Source
  5. Deadboy has delivered brand new remix pack with a hip-hop edge. The Montreal based producer has flipped tracks from the likes of Drake, Young Thug, Travis Scott, Post Malone and more for his Candy Crush Versions bootleg package, lacing some chunky bass and piercing synths on the popular originals. The full EP drops later today via Deadboy's website and will cost you nothing. Check out the preview from the EP below as well as the tracklist. 1. ‘Pills’ 2. ‘Iverson’ 3. ‘Much Closer’ 4. ‘Best Friend’ 5. ‘Future’ (Via FACT) Source
  6. A rather curious new Kickstarter has popped up on the internet of late, providing a way to chisel those jaw muscles of yours. Aptly called 'Jawzrsize', this little rubber blob is apparently the answer to an aesthetic jaw line. In their own words, "Jawzrsize is for all adults wanting to tone, firm, and strengthen the whole facial to neck area. For anybody looking to achieve a slimmer face, or reduce the double chin effect, Jawzrsize is your solution." Basically, you chuck it in your gob, chew on it for a while and then reap the benefits. This is the said blob. I'm fairly certain i saw a few people chewing imaginary Jawzrsize blobs at Splendour In The Grass last month. They must have been feeling the hype! Interestingly enough, the Kickstarter has already raised over $13,ooo. Looks like having a proper gurn jaw strong jaw is a real thing. Check it out here, and peep the video below for a laugh. Source
  7. Robotaki has been around for quite a while now – but despite his somewhat patchy output he’s managed to notch up a bevy of genre-spanning remixes for the likes of Miami Horror, Empire of The Sun and Chilly Gonzales to name just a few. Music isn’t the only thing Preston Chin occupies his time with though, his somewhat patchy output is actually due to him finishing his Masters thesis in Anatomy and Cell Biology at McGill University. So, essentially, he makes funked-up disco of the highest calibre and might one day come up with a cure of Alzheimer’s disease* – kinda makes you wonder what his music could be like if he focussed 100% of his time on it. His latest, ‘Ghostboy’, pops and fizzes with razor-sharp melodies and gooeys basslines that are wrapped around Claire Ridgely’s airy vocals, and the contrast between those, and the noodling jazz-y notes just below the surface, makes his debut on Majestic Casual nigh on perfect. Roll on the EP. *he probably won’t The post Robotaki returns with a fizzing new single ‘Ghostboy’ appeared first on Harder Blogger Faster. Source
  8. US President Barak Obama definitely knows how to compile a playlist. In what is his second official Summer Playlist straight out of the oval office , President Obama has compiled two separate playlists; one for the day and one for those warm Summer nights (of which we will have to endure in the cold because we;re at the bottom of the world). Each playlist is stacked with a broad range of selections of DJ Obama, ranging from the likes of the Beach Boys, Jay-Z, Miles Davis, Chance the Rapper and Method Man. among plenty more randomly awesome selections. Check out his tweet below and the full track list for both. Source
  9. In our mind Alex Metric is channeling the way a certain Thin White Duke (aka Stuart Price) would tackle a remix for an indie band like the Foals. And that’s exactly what you get with his remix of Foal’s ‘Mountain At My Gates’ – so the vocal is front-and-centre festooned with rave-y hooks aplenty for an over-the top festival banger that even Mr Price would put his name to it. If you’re in America kill two DJs with one stone and be sure to check out Alex Metric and Aeroplane on tour this month under their new moniker Metroplane. It would seem Alex won’t be joining Aeroplane after all. The post Alex Metric’s remix of the Foals packs a real punch appeared first on Harder Blogger Faster. Source
  10. Porter Robinson and Madeon have been good friends for a long time now, so it only makes sense that a collab was on the cards, but the two surprised fans this morning by releasing their new track 'Shelter', AND announcing a joint live tour. Here's the announcement taken from Porter Robinson's newsletter: 'it's been a while, i hope you're well. i've been working on so so so much music (and other projects!) lately and feeling happier and better than ever. so! madeon and i have been friends for almost a decade now. long since before either of us had even the beginnings of a career in music, we were still sending demos back and forth and competing with each other. we've charted a pretty similar path and influenced each other tons along the way, but hadn't really worked together - and after our respective albums came out we realized that we really wanted to make music and go on tour. we talked lots about it and we felt our respective sounds, live shows and discographies would combine really well. so i flew to hugo's beautiful studio in nantes and shelter came to be. (!!!) we wanted to make sure everyone could listen to this, so it's on spotify, soundcloud, apple music, youtube, everywhere. very very excited about the next coming months! please enjoy, porter' What do you guys think of the new track? I'll be honest, I was a little disappointed... there wasn't really any epic feels that a Porter song usually evokes (and I'm a die-hard Porter fan). Dare I say it's a little bit boring? Source
  11. Fark such a good song
  12. VHS Collection are, well, were not entirely sure, they’re from New York that much we do know, and their latest summer-tinged jam (yes, this is a certified jam) is all about New York City “and the reaction that we had returning to the city we grew up in after being away for so long,” explains the group. Catchy lyrics take the lead on ‘Ghost’ but it’s actually the choice of synths, backing vocals, and lush harmonies that elevate this particular track above the parapet compared to a lot of what we hear on a daily basis. We’ll be keeping an eye on VHS Collection and should too. The post VHS Collection’s ‘Ghost’ is indie-tinged disco at its best appeared first on Harder Blogger Faster. Source
  13. Isaac Tichauer has cruised back into our sites with the premiere of his poignant rework of Olsson's 'Thin Love'. The Sydney born, Berlin based Tichauer has honed his impressive musical finesse on this remix; dismantling the massive Olsson original and rebuilding it into a progressive, club friendly edit. 'Thin Love' is a cut form Olsson's forthcoming EP 'HOLD ON' which is set to drop on August 17 via Universal Music. Listen to Isaac Tichauer's stellar remix of 'Thin Love' below. Source
  14. Not being an avid movie fan, I didn’t recognise this song from anywhere when I first heard it. But as the soundtrack to the final scene of the classic movie Trainspotting. In fact, this song would probably have never been unearthed if it weren’t in that movie, due to its alternative style, pounding beat and nonsense lyrics. The lyrics were meant to be a joke in reference to the singer’s alcoholism, but ended up becoming the defining feature of the song after it became much more successful than expected. It’s not particularly easy listening and reminds you very easily of drugs and alcohol, but what makes this a classic dance song is its unique nature as an unexpected success story, especially given that it was originally a B-Side with joke vocals. 15. The 2016 installment of the Budweiser Made in America festival begins Labor Day weekend, and there’s plenty of talent on board for this two-day event. With so many acts on the roster, you might have trouble figuring out who to see. We've put together a list of five phenomenal acts that are worth your time checking out. Sleepy Tom. Vancouver native Sleep Tom has caught the attention of thousands of fans around the world with his unique stamp on modern day electronic music. After his firecracker EP The Currency hit the streets, he immediately became an in demand remixer for heavy hitters such as Martin Solveig, GTA, Diplo, and Zeds Dead. Since then, he has put out tracks on Mad Decent and Fool’s Gold, along with collaborations with Anna Lunoe and Gladiator. Now, his internet bootlegs and official remixes can be heard everywhere from festival stages to BBC radio shows across the world. DJ Mustard. Los Angeles native Dijon McFarlane, aka DJ Mustard, has quickly become one of the most sought after producers in the business. This producer, songwriter, and DJ has produced numerous hip hop and R&B singles for artists since he entered the game in 2011 such as “I’m Different” with 2 Chainz, “Don’t Hurt Me” featuring Nicki Minaj and Jeremih, and “Rack City” featuring Tyga. He’s the man behind that infamous tag “Mustard on the beat, hoe!” that’s been heard countless times on tracks. His up-tempo, club oriented yet primitive melodic style has also caught the attention of electronic producers such as Cashmere Cat, DJ Snake, and 4B. Jamie XX. If you’re a fan of The XX, you have no excuse to miss Jamie XX’s set. His first solo album “In Colour” was hailed as one of the best albums of 2015. His downtempo, vibrant sound will surely be a feel-good type of set. Tchami. Hailing from Paris, french DJ Tchami has been killing the future house genre since his unique sound starting hitting the airwaves. Aside from remixing Janet Jackson and Carlonie Koch tracks, Tchami has co-written platinum hits such as DJ Snake’s “Turn Down for What,” Major Lazer’s “Lean On,” and Lady Gaga’s “Do What U Want.” If you want to catch a set that will take you on a musical journey, be sure not to miss his set. Madeon. French producer Madeon has one of the most impressive live sets in electronic dance music. What makes him different? He uses a Launchpad to in conjunction with Ableton. Although his sound is more classic, he injects funkyness into his live sets that will have your body moving. We can expect this master genre mixer will play anything from rock to dubstep while adding his own twist. Source

  17. Euphoria Music Festival has announced it will be returning to Carson Creek Ranch for a fourth straight year, August 6 - 9, 2017. Coming off a record setting year, which saw over 50,000 fans in attendance, the sixth annual event has previously featured such acts as: Above & Beyond; Adventure Club; Bassnectar; Cherub; Crizzly; Dillon Francis; DVBBS; Eric Prydz; Grandtheft; G Jones; Lil Dicky; Pretty Lights; STS9; and Waka Flocka Flame, amongst others. The first round of performers for the 2017 lineup will be announced in the coming months. “With as competitive as the festival landscape is, we consider ourselves fortunate to be able to return year after year," says festival producer Mitch Morales. “Our goal, as with each year, is to bring a more enhanced experience to all our fans.” Part of this enhanced experience will be focusing on camping and taking steps to make sure that the Euphoria family’s temporary home exceeds expectations. New for 2017, the festival will be opening campgrounds an extra day early in an effort to make the load in process more seamless and allow fans added time at Carson Creek Ranch. Using the time since April to listen to fan suggestions, this new addition will allow groups a better opportunity of being placed together and alleviate long wait times. More frequent and direct shuttle service to the campground will also be adopted in 2017. Included in the camping pass, fans will be shuttled to and from parking lots to the campground, greatly reducing load in challenges. Finally, Euphoria is pleased to continue its partnership with Keep Austin Beautiful. Formed to provide resources and education to engage citizens in building more beautiful communities, the two-year alliance kicked off this past April and includes the adoption of Carson Creek that runs along the Ranch, five river cleanups held throughout the year, and additional participation and support for Keep Austin Beautiful events. The partnership will be part of a bigger green initiative that the festival has deemed “Ecophoria”. Additional details on the program and how to get involved, will be made available as details come together. Limited Loyalty ticket presale begins Friday, August 12th, 10 a.m. at $119 for a 3-Day festival pass and $199 for a 3-day festival pass with camping. 3-Day “Fly Life” VIP packages with preferred viewing areas, private bars, VIP restrooms and showers, concierge service, luggage drop off, and express entrance are available starting at $219 (without camping) and $349 with camping. The Early Entry pass, which allows Wednesday access for up to 2500 fans is available for $30. Euphoria will be continuing its partnership with Affirm, offering clear, simple financing to split Eventbrite orders into 3 or 6 monthly payments. This offers patrons the most flexible option yet for affording festival passes. Tickets are available online at www.euphoriafest.com. Euphoria is an ages 18 and over event. Source
  18. SURPRISE! Without any warning, Porter Robinson and Madeon have released an amazing new tune by the name of Shelter. Both producers have both kept a very quiet release schedule since they released their debut albums in 2014 and 2015 respectively, however they’ve obviously spent a lot of time in the studio and the result is nothing short of glorious. Combining their two sounds perfectly, they have created an Indie Dance tune that’s sure to become the song of the summer. Madeon’s vocals and Porter’s vocal chops both feature throughout, with production that doesn’t lean closer to either of their styles and instead acts as a perfect fusion between their sounds. The song is still in its infancy and there is no information about it apart from the fact that it exists, and as it’s only officially available on iTunes in some countries make sure to keep an eye on social media to catch the rest of the fallout from Shelter’s release. Needless to say, this is big. The post Porter Robinson & Madeon – Shelter appeared first on EDM Assassin. Source

  21. So you can probably see all the fucking posts that exploded in DJ HQ I'm running some RSS-feed stuff to grab music news and chuck it in. There will be a backlog evrey time I add a new one so it will be a bit spammy to start (not that anyone should give a fuck). Also when you hit enter in replies now it'll automatically go to a new paragraph instead of a new line. This is the only way I can get automated content to not format like dog shit. You'll get used to it until I can do a fix.
  22. Air Max '97 has been straight killing it. Off the back of his EP "HPE" and his Boiler Room set in Paris, he's dropped a remix of "Looking At Myself" by Sydney pop artist Gussy. The track itself is a real experimental, ambience instilled tune. It comes in with ghostly vibes with distorted white noise. These are further enhanced through the distortion of Gussy's vocals to make them sound alien-like. It flips the original and gives it a completely different style. While it's a bit out there it's definitely an intricate track worth giving a shot! Have a listen and tell us what you think, you can grab Gussy at Volumes Festival, late August. Source
  23. Birmingham based DnB legend DJ Hazard is one of the most notable names on the scene, with a string of successful EP's under his belt and gigs at notorious club 'Fabric'. So of course, when we ask for Hazard's top 5 DnB tunes, we got a killer list. Check it out: 1. Noisia - 'Shaking Hands' 'This tune is a couple of years old now, but I keep playing it because it's one of those ones you can drop into anything! You can double drop it with loads of tracks, but it also sounds good by itself. It's a classic all rounder from Noisia.' 2. Annix - 'Low' 'I've been playing this tune for a year. No idea when it's coming out or which label though!' 3. Agressor Bunx - 'Gravity' 'This is something I play when I want to switch things up a bit. It's one of those ones which can totally change the mood in a club when you play it.' 4. Dushi - 'Untitled' 'Dushi's a new female artist and I'm playing this new tune from her in my sets a lot at the moment. This one is a really nice tune with a female vocal, but I can't give you any more info than that... not sure when it's out... watch this space!' 5. Hizzleguy & Kahlil - 'Machines' 'Massive screwface tune! Aggressive jump up that always gets the crowd going.' Source

  25. Spanish authorities have obtained oddly shaped pills that are said to have record high levels of MDMA. The grey coloured pills have been circulating the UK and Europe and are shaped like a popular Ibizan party series. See below: After testing it was revealed that the pills contain 400mg of MDMA, a potency that is five times higher than the average dose, causing serious concern for European authorities. The pills we were confiscated from two arrested robbery suspects who also had "23.79 grams of cocaine, 3.4 grams of MDMA and 48 grams of liquid ecstasy". (Via Mixmag) Source
