  1. Dutch duo Yakumo, like many producers, create their music via an elaborate patchwork of analogue hardware and when the duo performs it’s done with the same analogue ethos in mind with an array of hardware to layer, build and, ultimately, create their music live. This analogue approach bleeds directly into the own productions, with the duo’s latest ‘Soulfire’ managing to blend techno rhythms with luminous tropical melodies for a cut of forward thinking tech-house that proves that techno can be tropical too. 2. Originally released back in 2013 DOC:HOOK’s ‘Jacking Dogs’ (Doc Daneeka and Nick Hook) was quite unlike anything that was released, well, ever. A jacking house track made ostensibly out of dogs barking and stabbing synth lines – it remains, to this day. a standout track from Doc Daneeka and Nick Hook. Fast-forward to 2016 and Play It Down (the label responsible for releasing it) is about to released Label Mates 001 compilation, the first in a series from Play It Down which will be using the label’s back catalog of 15 years of legendary house music A&R’ed by label boss Jesse Rose to create a new compilation series. To wet your appetite the label has unloaded a fresh edit from LA-native Brillstein who’s delivered a fresh take on DOC:HOOK’s 2013 banger ‘Jacking Dogs’. Brillstein keeps the canine samples intact whilst crafting his edit into a dancefloor destroyer utilising undulating basslines against the doggie samples and never-ending synth stabs. 3. Another anthemic deep house track from Nora En Pure contains what can only be described as gospel vocals. The deep house flavor of this track has my toes bouncing as I sit here writing, while the short interludes of vocals keep the track fresh and fun to listen to. While deep house can get reaalllllyyy deep, this one sticks to the surface as the bass and four on the floor melodies are reminiscent, but the bright feeling of the track overall helps this track stand out. Listen to it below and if you subconsciously start to tap your toes, you’ll understand exactly what I mean. Let us know what you think! 4. More commonly known as 1/2 of UK production duo Psychemagik, the now LA-based Tom Coveney is back with an underground gem via his alter ego, Thomas Banks. Only the third of his releases via his new moniker, ‘Speedball’ is the quintessential after-hours dancefloor destroyer. The techno sound and genre is a hit or miss with most people. The average person likely isn’t bumping grinding techno and bass in their headphones while at work – I can hardly see how that would be productive. But when you’re a few drinks deep, in the middle of a dark dancefloor enhanced with Funktion-1 sound… it’s impossible not to marvel at the beautiful simplicity behind minimalistic techno. The pounding bass and repetitive structure are paired with one intention in mind – to make you move. ‘Speedball’ caught my attention because it did more than that for me. Full-disclaimer, I AM blasting this in my headphones at work but it also whisked me back to 09’, where I had my 22-year old blown by Len Faki’s Podium remix of Dustin Zahn’s ‘Stranger to Stability’. That track remains one of my favourites of all time but the new joint from Thomaas Banks is surely giving it a run for its money. Speaking about the track, Banks said: “Speedball is a cover of the theme track to Speedball2, an old Amiga game release in 1990. As a kid I played it all the time and loved its music, so its got a real sense of nostalgia for me. Since starting this project I’ve been delving back to influences like this and experimenting and seeing where it takes me. The original was about 130+bpm so I’ve dropped it way down to get some drug chug back!”. Words by David H Kim. 5. At Sonic Bloom, the Unified Field Theory is presented through mind expanding music, art, and visuals. What I took away from the presentation was that we are all connected and the world is our canvas. Each of us has our own craft tools to paint and impact our universe. Crafts can consist of making music to help people explore emotions and move their bodies, communicating an impactful message, or painting to compose beautiful works of art that encourages original thought. Craft tools can come in all forms, tangible or intangible. We all have tremendous power to transform the world with the craft tools we decide to use. Choose as many tools as you wish and go paint our universe a more colorful place. :: Lineup via facebook.com/sonicbloom :: Now enjoy this Phaeleh track as you take a photo tour of Sonic Bloom on the Hummingbird Ranch in Colorado: Sub.Mission and Mile High Club (MHC) member , Marvin Hearn – known as Ind33p :: Michael Travis Set :: Day 3 :: :: Michael Travis Set :: :: 2016 Sonic Bloom Hat :: Photo via grassroots.com :: :: The Other Stage :: Jantsen set :: :: The Other Stage :: :: Creek Chilling :: Photo by Wook Vision :: The creek is a great place for wook hunting. Knowing that’s true no matter what, then I can trick my brain by saying- right now you are going to that ultimate truth to turn off all concern for awhile.” :: Michael Travis as Michael Travis and all his good vibrations :: Alina Hokanson Photography :: Then we went into a deep conversation about his influences, the galaxy, and love. Burning Man really opened his eyes to the electronic music scene, especially Shpongle’s album, “Tales of the Inexpressible.” About the universe, Michael says,”this is a huge galactic community with many many races and many many galaxies full of beings.” On the subject of love Michael asserts, “Love is just one word in our language but actually love is an entire landscape of existence- if we can identify with that part of ourselves and let ourselves glow without concern then we can get closer to that kingdom.” Make sure to look out for the Trancident– a rare trance set performed during Sonic Bloom 2015 by members of String Cheese Incident (Michael Travis, Michael Kane, Jason Hann, and Kyle Hollingsworth). It will happen again… Then I spoke with Jason Hann of String Cheese, EOTO, and under the DJ moniker, Prophet Massive. Catch this fun Bass Physics track, ‘Mind Activation.’ I also spoke with Colorado native, Jantsen, before his set Sunday on “The Other Stage.” I asked him, “what do you like most about this festival?” Jantsen says, “the positive energy of his hometown- partying with all the homies.” Notably, he does a filthy remix of Bassnectar’s, “When the Beat Drops.” :: At the Jantsen set going donutz :: Day 4 :: :: Jantsen make you like…:: Side note- “The Other Stage” was named after Denver’s local venue, “The Other Side”, which is managed by the Cervantes team who handled a lot of the logistics for the festival. Everything seemed to operated smoothly and safely. The hospitality at this festival is hard to find anywhere else. Also, a HUGE shout out to Jamie Janover who harvested Sonic Bloom 11 years ago at the Mishawaka Amphitheater along the Poudre River in Ft. Collins, CO. Thank you Jamie for making this world a more colorful and beautiful place. He also hosts workshops about the unified field and composes amazing music with Michael Travis and Arron Holstein of The Vibe Squad and under the moniker Zilla. :: The man himself, Jamie Janover :: Night three was full of beautiful music. There was a small crisis when Ott canceled last minute, but Kalya Scintilla came in to save the evening (check out Scintilla’s full album HERE). Quixotic and Kalya Scintilla set the stage wonderfully for Tipper. We hope all is well Ott! If you are looking for a crisp set then know Tipper will leave you feeling refreshed. The patience and precision David displays to combobulate beats is unworldly. Eat up this Tipper EP and make sure to catch him when he comes around your town. He is taking music to new levels. Android Jones blessed us with his mesmerizing fractal visuals. Jone’s art was projected onto a HD screen that was placed at the bud of the Sonic Bloom flower-shaped main stage. The combination of the transformational music and art allowed us to drip into free flowing abstract thoughts and movements. :: Android Jones visuals for Tipper :: I felt the music at Sonic Bloom encouraged us to think in new ways. I think the placement and order of the sounds that Tipper compiles can excite brain neurons in new ways that generates fresh and original thought. Also, I put two and two together, sound triggers memory. I can remember something better if there is music associated with it. I see good reason to explore that concept further to enhance our memory. Needless to say, I had a splendid time exploring my mind, body and spirit at this festival. Check out the official Sonic Bloom recap video I hope to catch you blooming next year. 6. Update 21:44pm GTM 9/8/2016: It has been confirmed that the man, now named as Tomas, that fell through the roof at Studio 338 during yesterday’s fire has sadly passed away from his injuries. Our thoughts are with his friends and family. The nightclub owners have released this statement. “Our hearts are smashed and broken. Tomas fought for as long as he could given the extent of his injuries. He was as strong as an Ox but it was too much even for him. We are so sad to tell you all that he died a few minutes ago. This picture was taken in Ibiza last year when the whole team went out. He was the happiest guy on the island but instead of spending it off clubbing all the time he stayed with the family and played with the kids by the pool, always making sure everyone was having a great holiday, helping with the food and generally just being Tomas. He was so pure and beautiful. An inspiration to us all, always postive, never complaining, working through the night to make sure the parties were the best they could be for you and us. We are all so devasted to lose him like this. Everything we do from now on is for you our brother” Update 20:33PM GMT: More details are beginning to emerge about the man who was injured during today’s fire at Studio 338, which has destroyed the popular London nightclub. According to reports from the BBC, a man has been taken to hospital with “severe burns” after falling through the roof whilst trying to dampen the fire with a bucket of water. The club has also now released a statement about today’s tragic events, it reads: “By now I’m sure you all know about the fire we have had here at Studio 338. The blaze started just before midday today and is now totally extinguished. For now that is all the information I have but of course I will update everyone as soon as we know more about the extent of the damages and loss. Myself and the team here want to thank you all for your support and the lovely messages we have received today. It’s at times like this that you realise what wonderful people we have involved in London’s dance music community. Although this is of course a very sad and upsetting day for everyone who has worked, performed or partied at Studio 338, right now we have stay positive and strong. I and the awesome team here will do everything and anything to get us all back dancing together as soon as possible Over the weekend, I read a beautiful line in Hilary Mantel’s incredible Bring Up The Bodies. It goes: “The things you think are the disasters in your life are not the disasters really. Almost anything can be turned around: out of every ditch, a path, if you can only see it.” That’s ringing in my ears today as we take stock and work out the next steps. Things are only finished if you let them be. Our unity and love for music will prevail, I am 100% sure of it. Finally, with regards to upcoming events and tickets, etc., the vast majority of you have understood that today is of course a bit early to even think about that. Our first priority is people’s safety and understanding what has happened. Once we have had a chance to at least get an idea of the impact this has had, we will get straight onto what can be done for the near future and pre-booked tickets for events, which may now not be able to go ahead at 338.” [Original story] Popular London nightclub Studio 338 – which hosts parties by Home, Art Of Dark, Cocoon and Elrow – has been destroyed by fire. There’s no news on how the fire started, but it has been revealed that one person has been taken to the hospital with burn injuries. Reports of the fire began circling online earlier today with a reported 70 firefighters tackling the fire in Greenwich, London. Now that the fire been put under control, the true extent of the damage can been seen – and it doesn’t look good. It appears from the pictures (above) that the entire indoor structure has been completely destroyed (even more galling is the club went through an extensive refurb in recent months) making today’s news even more heartbreaking. Our thoughts are with everyone who has been affected by today’s fire. Not much to say right now except thank you all for the love and support at this difficult time. 7. There’s something clearly in the water in Norway as for as long as we can remember this little Nordic country has consistently delivered well-crafted pop bangers, and both Loveless and Rumours are just another in a long line of producers that you should be keeping tabs on. The Norwegian duo have remixed Rumour’s ‘Fallout’ (who are also from Norway and Italy via London) into a rousing cut of pop-centric house that’s both moving and energetic as the duo of Eirik Tillerli and Fillip Kollsete combine Nordic melodies with electronic rhythms, resulting in soulful and unique style of pop music. More of this please. The post Loveless’ remix of Rumours proves that Norway is still a hotbed for well-crafted pop bangers appeared first on Harder Blogger Faster. Source
  8. Hailing from LA, modular synth trio KRON are about to release their self-titled album – but ahead of it’s release the trio are sharing ‘Dense Clouds’. Sounding like a long-lost sci-fi theme song, ‘Dense Clouds’ sees the trio craft an eerie slice of electronica that’s both foreboding and hypnotic. The video, an aggressive mixture of 2D and 3D digital animation styles heavily influenced by video game VFX, is a glimpse of the type of projected visual spectacle KRON features at their live shows. The post KRON’s ‘Dense Clouds’ is both dreamy and propulsive appeared first on Harder Blogger Faster. Source
  9. Taken from Tocaio’s next full-length, ‘Bonfire’ proves that ambient music can be both exciting and refreshing. Steeped in warm tones, ‘Bonfire’ develops from a simple guitar loop into something far more substantial as prickly melodies wrap themselves around the track’s doughy basslines, and as you reach the final crescendo Hector Carlos Ramirez adds some more drum flourishes to give the track a suitably rousing finish. 11. Hello Games’ eagerly anticipated procedurally generated space exploration game No Man’s Sky hits shops in just a few short days – and today the makers of the game’s soundtrack 65daysofstatic have shared the game’s expansive soundtrack. To whet your appetite the electro math rock band from the UK has uploaded the 10-track soundtrack to Youtube. Just over 45 minutes in length it offers a glimpse of the atmosphere and depth that Hello Games is trying to deliver. If you’re unfamiliar with No Many’s Sky, the game is an ambitious space exploration game set in a virtual universe – including the stars, planets, lifeforms, ecosystems, and the behaviour of the space-bound factions – which is all created through procedural generation using deterministic algorithms and random number generators. A single seed number is used to create these features via mathematical computation thus eliminating the need to create each of these features by hand. This enables the game to have a massively open nature: Hello Games has estimated that with their 64-bit seed number, their virtual universe includes over 18 quintillion planets The post Listen to the soundtrack for space exploration game No Man’s Sky appeared first on Harder Blogger Faster. 12. Belgian-based producer ATTAR! delivered a fresh cut of house last month alongside the intoxicating vocals of Santana, and now he’s giving away the original version of ‘Looping’ for free. A low-slung cut of house that’s steeped in sci-fiction overtones, it proves once again the producer’s credentials when it comes to crafting forward-thinking club weapons. The post ATTAR! is giving away his new intoxicating track, ‘Looping’ appeared first on Harder Blogger Faster. Source
  13. In certain circles Fred Falke is a remix god. Around the time of bloghaus’ dominance both Falke and Alan Braxe were delivering scorching remixes left, right and centre, and while their output has waned somewhat in recent years, whenever either of them put their name to a remix you know it’s going to be straight fire. Falke actually has two remixes out at the moment and they’re just about the best thing you’ll hear this month as the French demigod delivers two cuts of bombastic French flamboyancy. The first is a twanging rework of Midnight Faces’ ‘Heavenly Body’ that’s two thirds throbbing French touch basslines and one third clever keys. The second is a remix of Jake Bugg, which is equally va va voom; all be it with a little more presence, regardless – they’re both are well worth adding to your disco playlist, and if you haven’t got a disco playlist there’s no better time time to start one. 14. Whilst it has indeed been around for a while, Dixon’s remix for Todd Terje’s ‘Snooze 4 Love’ has been re-released on Terje’s own Olsen records. Originally released on Running Back, the killer remix is now available on vinyl once again. The Dixon remix in particular is solid gold and well worth your time and money, as the Innvisions don whips the original’s doughy melody into a frenzy over fuzzy basslines and long, protracted sweeps. 15. Last month, the self-appointed musical genius Chilly Gonzales dedicated his first Beats 1 show entirely to Daft Punk – not only does he discuss their career at length he also gets Tiga and Boys Noize to give us their take on the duo’s impact on electronic music. “Chilly Gonzales breaks down the “daft” and “punk” sides of Daft Punk by breaking down musical techniques like filtering and climbing bass lines. Tiga and Boys Noize also join Chilly and discuss the influence both sonically and technically that Daft Punk has made on their own careers. Chilly caps off the show with an exclusive cover of “Something About Us.” The post Listen to Chilly Gonzales’ Beats 1 show all about Daft Punk appeared first on Harder Blogger Faster. Source
  16. As well as dispatching chart-topping releases almost as consistently as the sun sets each day, Duke Dumont also does a line of club weapons under the crudely titled ‘For Club Play Only’ that’s consistently delivered club-ready gold for a while now. Now at the dizzying heights of number four, the Duke has jumped ship to Defected Records (the others were on Turbo Recordings) with a new two track release. ‘Be Here’ stays true to the Defected sound as Dumont delivers a sunshine cut of brass-y house that wears the Defected DNA with pride, whilst the b-side, ‘Worship’ goes a bit more contemporary, for a undulating synth workout of beeps and bleeps. The post Duke Dumont signs to Defected for his next ‘For Club Play Only’ release appeared first on Harder Blogger Faster. Source
  17. Whenever you see the name of one of Norway’s best producers ‘Lindstrøm’, you know you’re in for a contemporary disco treat. And this remix is no different. Aimed at dancefloor, this ought to get you dancing at any moment of the night. The original song ‘Charlemagne’ by Blossoms is a rock song with a catchy melody and vocal. A song you can enjoy on the radio or in a muddy festival field. Adding Lindstorm in that mix brings you an infectious and synth-filled disco song. A groovy bassline telling you exactly what to do. Then some synths and rises that get you in a happy mood. It takes a while before you recognise the original song. But adding the vocals in the mix, Lindstorm succeeds in making a catchy club track once again. It’s always a happy moment to hear a remix that works so well. 18. An artist at the forefront of the incredible electronic music talent emerging from the land down under, Xavier Dunn rightfully caught my attention with his new single ‘Straight On Till Morning’. The Sydney-based triple threat (singer-songwriter-producer) has been busy as of late, coming off a national tour supporting BROODS, recently playing VIVID Festival alongside Zhu, Basenji, and more, and guest performing for Feki at Splendor in The Grass. The Australian’s latest is a masterful display of creativity and class, blending heartfelt lyrics and vocals with elements of varying genres like pop, indie, and R&B into one cohesive work of art. It’s beautifully intricate but there’s also sentimental meaning beneath the stellar production. “SOTM is about the colour we left behind when we grew into “adults”, we shouldn’t forget the magic we felt when we saw things for the very first time,” he says. Dunn seeks to transport his fans to a special place, bringing to life distinct memories and forgone thoughts. With his latest release tugging the heartstrings of fans all over, Xavier Dunn’s star looks to be on a meteoric rise. Words by David Kim. 19. Vitalic is nothing if not diverse. His discography over the past 10 years has touched on various points of the electronic music spectrum – at all times delivering quality over quantity. This is evident on his latest release, the Film Noir EP. The two track effort shows his willingness to perfectly execute two different ideas that reside in the same musical ‘ballpark’ if you will. ‘Ooey’ (featured on our blog a few months back) is a somewhat playful, bouncy and ridiculously addictive electronic treat. ‘Film Noir’, on the other hand, is a brooding techno stunner aimed squarely for club play. The track chugs along with various bleeps, static drones and an omnipresent cowbell – before completely dropping out to silence and unleashing a slamming kick drum made for peak-time dancefloor destruction. Vitalic has delivered a fantastically solid release that, though only two tracks in length, has a very high replay value. One of the strongest packages of the year no doubt! Film Noir is out now on Correspondant Records, and can be purchased on the following link: https://www.beatport.com/release/film-noir/1786031 Words by David Pallozzi. 20. Pampa label boss DJ Koze is on a bit of a roll right now, in saying that though, I don’t think he has ever stopped pumping out quality vibes! From his amazing original works to his various remixes including his superb current 70’s NYC disco fuelled remix of Lapsley’s ‘Operator’ which has got to be one of this year’s musical highlights so far (Annie Mac Hottest Record in the World and now an Essential New Tune too) Koze has been dropping bomb after bomb. The German maestro’s remix of ‘Energy Flow’ has been a staple of Ame & Dixon for a while. It was included on their recent Essential Mix and the remixes highly anticipated (this is actually one of 2 remixes for the release by DJ Koze). Stephan Kozalla a.k.a Dj Koze has taken this version on a deep, atmospheric trip where the track builds beautifully then coasts along perfectly incorporating Mano’s droning lyrics. This is where it could easily become dreary and dull but instead sublimely adds to a perfect soundtrack of goosebump proportions. The beautifully shot video works so well with the track and if you get a chance definitely check out Mano Le Tough’s 2015 album ‘Trails’ on Permanent Vacation. Words by Joel Xavier.
