We can’t even begin to imagine how excited SFX is to leave 2015 behind and have a fresh start. After financial concerns canceled an entire festival, TomorrowWorld’s incredible backfire, and Robert Sillerman’s fraudulent behavior, the bad news keeps pouring in. It was briefly speculated that Live Nation Head of Electronic Music James Barton would be joining SFX as CEO, but those discussions have fallen through. Sources have stated that Barton’s salary demands exceeded SFX’s budget, but others have said his concern for the company’s financial issues was the real deal-breaker. Additionally, the partnership between Spotify and Beatport from July has been formally terminated as of December 17th. As a result, SFX will have to repay a $10 million recoupable advance to Spotify as outlined in the settlement agreement. So far, SFX has paid $2.5 million of the total, but the remainder is due no later than July 1, 2016. However, that deadline will not hold in the event of a Beatport sale or payment default, and we’re all well acquainted with Mr. Sillerman’s business ethics… Still, it doesn’t stop there for the sinking industry giant. Back in April 2014, SFX acquired TMWRK, the management company behind Dillon Francis, Jack Ü, A-Trak, Diplo, and a host of other A-listers. But the company has seen enough, and is bailing out of their acquisition by paying a $3.6 million settlement. TMWRK might actually be doing them a favor, as these funds will likely go towards remunerating Spotify for the sour deal, but in the end, losing Diplo, Jack Ü, and Dillon Francis is a huge blow. The pain of personal loss can inspire amazing creative work, as we see in Skrillex's new "Stranger" remix. Sonny lost his mom earlier this year, in the middle of the editing for the Stranger video. Though the pain of this tragedy caused him to put the project aside for a while, when he came back to it he was inspired to create a new version of the song, to give it a deeper meaning. He spoke about this in a short interview with The Creators Project To be honest, this was an older song and we shot the video a while back. My mom had passed away earlier this year right in the middle of us finishing the edit. A lot of my targets and deadlines went on a halt because I was unable to emotionally finish anything. Stranger kind of fell on the backburner for a while, and obviously this song was older so I just felt like I should rework it, this was actually only like a month ago. Why don't I just flip the song into something else so it doesn't feel irrelevant? And I could release it with more of a purpose than just putting out a song and a video. So it actually turned into something even more special. He released the song and video on Christmas day, asking fans to give whatever they can to support several charities, including the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Bridges for Music, and Jhamtse Gatsal Children’s Community. Knowing this backstory makes the video all the more poignant, as it takes inspiration from the story of Peter Pan and the Lost Boys - orphaned children living without their parents. As reported by Billboard, Guns N’ Roses will apparently reunite with original members Axl Rose and Slash for a headlining performance at Coachella 2016. According to sources, the band is also in talks for a summer stadium tour, spanning across 25 venues in North America, with tickets reportedly priced at at least $250 for a single-night show. This rumored Coachella performance marks Axl and Slash’s first show together since Buenos Aires in 1993. A reunion show at Coachella seems appropriate since the 3-day festival routinely presents similar appearances for revered musicians, such as AC/DC in 2015 and Outkast in 2014. Coachella is set to take place over two weekends on April 15-17 and April 22-24, but good luck getting your hands on a ticket since advance sale tickets are all gone. Source
