  1. “March of the Afrojack” is a documentary-style web-series due out this fall. It provides a rare look at his life on the road and allows viewers to see, through his own eyes, what the DJ lifestyle is like and the ups and downs that go along with it. This trailer allows viewers to resonate with the real Afrojack with a variety of shots ranging from very real moments with his mother in his hometown of Spijkenisse, in the Netherlands, to intense performances at some of the world’s largest festivals, including Ultra and EDC. 2. Attention Krew fans: You’re probably aware that Krewella’s first full length album doesn’t drop until next week, but until then, you can preview each track from the album on iTunes. Its not as good as having the full record in your hands, but this should give you more reason to get excited. Listen on iTunes Source: edmsauce.com
  3. Steinberg has updated Cubasis – its mobile DAW for iPad – to version 1.6, introducing an improved audio engine and more. Here’s what’s new in Cubasis 1.6: • New pristine audio engine with extended sample rates (44.1/48/96kHz) and bit rates (16/24-bit)* • Real-time playback of arbitrary audio file formats (44.1/48/96kHz and 16/24/32 bit) independently of the project’s sample rate and bit depth. • Up to 24 assignable physical audio outputs • Assignable metronome output and pan • MIDI Clock latency compensation slider • Audio input gain adjustment option for audio interfaces and external microphones For the complete list of improvements and user reported problems solved, see the Steinberg site. Steinberg Cubasis is available in the App Store. Source: synthtopia.com
  4. Since its inception, Firepower Records, has set out to demolish the typical restrictions of most prominent record labels and provide its rapidly growing roster of talented artists the opportunity to continually grow and release their music the way they see fit. To exemplify this idea even further, Firepower head honcho, Datsik will be releasing his forthcoming album, ‘Let It Burn’, two ways. "if you have a few bucks and want to support Datsik and Firepower you may pre-order now and purchase the LP on iTunes as usual for less than the cost of a number 6 combo at your favorite greasy fast food joint OR if you’re broke, like free shit or were planning on pirating it anyway you can now cop the album for FREE by simply filling out and submitting the form below..Either option should leave you feeling a little less greasy." Earlier today, the first single of the release, ‘Let It Burn’ featuring Georgia Murray premiered on UKF, so make sure to give the track a listen and either pre-order your copy of the ‘Let It Burn’ LP here or sign up for your free download here. Either way, a free release of this caliber should be commended regardless of your decision on how you’d like to acquire it, so make sure to hop over and show Datsik your gratitude by at least giving him a like on Facebook, here Source: youredm.com

  7. BOOM! Reloop grabs the DJ scene by the throat, slaps it around, and shovels an amazing turntable under its nose. Yes, you read right, and the Reloop RP-8000 MIDI turntable is THAT turntable you’ve wanted for the longest time — looks like a Technics, feels like a Technics, but has something very current that Technics don’t have, namely MIDI. Here are the official words: RELOOP RP-8000 NEXT GENERATION TURNTABLE CONTROLLER The Reloop RP-8000 combines modern DJ technology in an advanced turntable. This hybrid high torque turntable does the balancing act between approved direct drive technology and a digital control section for your DJ software. The RP-8000 is able to communicate with any midi compatible DJ software – an additional modular controller is not necessary anymore. Serato Scratch Live mappings are also available with which the worldwide most popular and stable DVS system can be controlled. With the Trax encoder it is possible to scroll through your playlists and comfortably load tracks onto the decks. The RP-8000 disposes of 4 combinable performance modes. This way creative features are available such as access to 8 hot cue points. This means whole new possibilities for beat juggling. As the 8 drum pads are also multi-functional, loops can also be set and triggered. Even access to sample decks is very easy with the RP-8000. A further bank is available for your personal requirements because in user mode the pads are freely assignable – which by the way also goes for the turntable’s all other MIDI compatible controlelements. This way drum rolls and instant effects can be controlled – various presets can be downloaded from the product website. The Dual Performance mode is especially clever: when two modes, such as cue and loop, are pressed simultaneously, the first 4 trigger buttons are assigned to cue and the other 4 buttons are assigned to loop mode. The Turntable Link Mode is also quite smart: via USB up to 4 turntables can be linked. The single devices assign themselves automatically and consecutively to the next deck – this way only one turntable has to be connected via USB to your PC/Mac. Besides the indestructible and sturdy construction, the turntable does not only cope with the hardest club surroundings, its technical features are as powerful: an ultra powerful, quarz driven direct drive with precise even speed and digital correction emphasizes the Reloop RP-8000′s class. The high-resolution pitch (+/- 8%, +/- 16% and +/- 50 %) with a resolution of 0.04% is shown on the LCD and facilitates exact beat matching with long mixes. Sophisticated and fast turntablism showcases can also be realized without a problem, thanks to the additional start/stop button for vertical positioning and a variable torque from “Classic” to “HiTorque”. More variety in the mix: with the reverse button and an adjustable start/stop time from 0.2 to 6 seconds, individual and creative impulses can be set with the RP-8000. As the turntable is equipped with a line/phono switch, it can even be connected directly to line inputs of mixers or amps – grounding not necessary. Features: - Advanced Hybrid Torque Turntable - Digital DJ turntable with upper-torque direct drive - MIDI compatible control section consisting of Trax encoder, 8 backlit drum pads and 4 combinable performance modes (cue, loop, sample and user) - Large Trax encoder - Auto deck-assign feature - Turntable link USB port - Digital LC-Display for pitch display, deck assignment and firmware settings - Adjustable start/brake (0.2 – 6 seconds) & torque (2.5 kg/cm – 4.5 kg/cm) - Metal top panel with metallic finish - Phono and line output (no grounding necessary) - Direct connection of turntable and motor for best possible stability - Especially heavy finish - High end tonearm - Pitch range ±8%, ±16%, ±50% - High resolution pitch fader - LCD pitch display - Easy to exchange, freely revolvable needle illumination with super bright LED - Quarz lock - Safety power switch - Reverse switch - 2 start/stop buttons for vertical positioning - Smart USB linkfor up to 4 turntables - Rubber inlay for reduction of vibrations and ambient noise - Removable mains and RCA cables - Sunk-in connection cavity for easy case installation - Shock proof feet - Vibration-resistant base - Serato Scratch Live mappings available - Typ: 3 speeds, fully manual - Type of drive: quarz driven upper torque direct drive - Speeds: 33 1/3, 45 und 78 rpm - Initial torque: 2500 – 4500 g/cm - S/N Ratio >= 55 dB (1 kHz, 4mV input) - Applicable cartridge weight: 6-10 g - Anti-skating range: 0 – 3 g - Dimensions: 450 x 160 x 353 mm - Weight: 11,0 kg - Incl. slipmat, headshell & tone arm illumination but without stylus At this time, I’m just going to let that all sink in for a moment… So it’s a super OEM turntable (think Stanton, Reloop etc) but painted with a very big Technics brush (even down to recessed pitch) but with MIDI controls. It does go beyond the superficial level and integrates on a secondary controller level with Serato DJ and all other MIDI software too. Not the platter you understand — that still requires analogue or control vinyl, but the buttons are tailored more for Serato’s features. There are 4 modes — 3 obvious ones being cue, loop and sample. These work exactly as you’d expect, albeit waiting for Serato DJ 1.5 to fill all 8 buttons with hot cues. User mode is even smarter — press 2 mode buttons at once and the 8 pads split in have, giving you 4 of whatever 2 buttons you’ve pressed. 4 hot cues plus 4 samples, 4 loops plus 4 hot cues etc. But it gets smarter still — each deck has 2 USB ports, one for MIDI and another for daisy chaining on their own MIDI channel so that you only need link the first to your laptop. To be clear — the USB port is for MIDI only. You can’t rip audio through them. The pitch, just like the last Technics is digital, but has a very tight resolution of 0.02%, something that will please a lot of DJs who bemoan the loss of analogue pitch. And finally, let’s not forget the track browse and load rotary, which if your wished, could be mapped to something else, like maybe a filter if your mixer doesn’t have it. The big question is the price. In the UK, this particular deck is going to set you back a pretty lofty £585. For a turntable, that could be considered steep, but with the additional built-in controls and solid build, I feel that this is a fair price in this climate, especially for those who want something more Technics-ish than other turntable offerings. Apologies for the lack of photos at this time. Tomorrow will see this little faux pas fixed in style. We’ll have a lot more to discuss about this quite unexpected but very exciting turntable. 8. Spinnin' Records, one of the top electronic dance music record labels, found itself in hot water on Friday. On its Twitter and Facebook pages, the company posted a picture of a new CD-J, along with the caption 'Thanks @PioneerDJ for finally making a CD-J suitable for women.' The tweet has been favorited 102 times and retweeted 170 times -- often followed up with sharp criticsm for perceived sexism. Both well-known DJs and aspiring musicisians expressed their anger with the label. '@SpinninRecords @PioneerDJ wow what a sexist tweet! I'm pretty sure I use my cdj-2000s way more than my stove! @LaidbackLuke 's the chef!' wrote DJ Gina Turner. 'wowww yikes spinnin... bold move for the fb page. #misogny #newlow #mightwannadeletethis,' wrote DJ Kalkutta. User NewYorkRagers called the tweet 'Edm sexism at its finest.' User LITAHmusic added, '@SpinninRecords @PioneerDJ Well that's fantastic. #Sexist jerks.' Gender inequalities have been previously documented in electronic dance music. The Forbes list of the highest-paid DJs in 2013 included only men. DJ duo Rebecca & Fiona also told Yahoo! Music in August that 'Who makes your music?' is the first question they are always asked in interviews. They also said the music industry was '90 percent men.' On Friday, Spinnin' Records posted a brief apology on its Facebook page. 'Music's all about having fun and this post was obviously not meant to offend anyone,' it said. Co-founder of Spinnin' Records Eelko van Kooten has also come under fire. Buzzfeed notes that DJ Claire Doze of The JaneDoez asked him 'Is this how you'd like your label represented?' Van Kooten wrote 'Without a doubt and saying: it's a joke.' Spinnin' Records offered the above apology to its fans on its Facebook page Source: dailymail.co.uk
  9. Organisers of the Groovin the Moo festival, Cattleyard Promotions, are at work organising an electronic sister event to Australia’s biggest regional music festival. Cattleyard Promotions unveiled The Plot on Facebook on Thursday, describing the festival as “an exciting new party in Sydney and Melbourne that will put the Tron in electronic and the dance in your pants.” Details about The Plot are at this stage scarce. We do know that it will fall during Australia’s summer festival period and feature in both Sydney and Melbourne. Big Top Luna Park will host The Plot of December 14 before continuing on in Melbourne the following day across the a couple of venues- The Palace Theatre and Ding Dong Lounge in the CBD. Miami Horror are confirmed as the first festival guest, however the full lineup announcement is set won’t drop until October 9. Since debuting in 2005, Groovin’ The Moo has rapidly grown into huge part of Australia’s festival calendar. This year’s lineup featured Example, Matt and Kim, The Bronx, The Kooks, They Might Be Giants and Frightened Rabbit and five national regional destinations before the festival announced last week it would be expanding to South Australia in 2014. 10. The New York Post wants to teach you how to twerk like a pro. So they created this infograph…and it is the worst thing in the world. The chicks face makes me scared for my life. These images would make diplo cry. This would convince Miley Cyrus to grow her hair out again and quit twerking forever. There would be no more girls getting down on the stage with their asses in the air. Don’t kill the twerk. Everyone just needs to stop. Source: mixjunkies.com
  11. We all know that the EDM scene is one of the biggest markets in the music scene to date. If you ever wondered how successful it is, let this following article put you in shock and disbelief. Former Wall Street investigator and John Langdon and his company Massive Advisors, compiled The Digital Pangea, the first annual Massive White Paper showing the current reach, influence, and true value of the global EDM scene. In simple terms, “It’s an econometric market study of the global electronic dance music market and culture.” The findings in this study are rather remarkable to say the least. The EDM market is a $15.0 to $20.0 billion global industry, with the major players in the global festival market achieving $4.5 billion in sales for 2012. Digital music revenues grew an impressive 9.8% in 2012. This compares to a 17% increase in festival attendees at [the] five top dance music newsglobal festivals and an increase of 33% in the total number of festivals thrown yearly worldwide. The attendance at [the] 20 top global festivals evaluated by Massive Advisors, LLC increased from 1.9 million in 2009 to an estimated 3.4+ million for 2013. This shows that the value of the EDM scene has nearly doubled in size since the last report on the study of the dance music scene has been released. Not only is the EDM scene making the music industry money, but we are one of the biggest music scenes in the world to date. While the EDM scene is stimulating the music industry to such a degree, we are still ignored by major facets of the music industry. Not to say that it is completely off put. With the dance music scene having such a negative perception with the rampant drug use and deaths, it is understandable that some people want to stay away. But after this report reaches the ears of those executives, you can best believe that these people who have been ignoring us for so long will be jumping at the opportunity to get involved. 12. Many modern DJs prefer to mix with an iPad instead of a laptop, and Native Instruments has just updated its Traktor Kontrol S4 and S2 decks (shown both above and below the break) to accommodate those tastes. The new controllers now work directly with Traktor DJ, giving iOS-based artists hardware controls for everything they see onscreen. There are updates to the controls themselves, of course. The two systems now have backlit RGB buttons, higher-precision jogwheels and sturdier designs; there's also a shortcut to Flux Mode, which helps DJs tweak cue points and loops in mid-set. The revised version of the two-channel S2 is available for $499, while the four-channel S4 sells for $799. 15. A pattern emerges, where Pioneer release a new piece of gear, and not too long after, a pearly white version comes along to try and pull that plastic out of your wallet. This time, it’s the immensely successful Pioneer DDJ-SX Serato DJ controller. Like the rest of Pioneer’s top end offerings, you can now grab it in pearl white. Not that it really needed it, but there’s a quick demo from the UK’s DJ Blakey. And here’s the somewhat unecessary PR, but that’s what we do: Choice and control: Pioneer DJ adds a pearl white model to the Digital DJ SX series of controllers for Serato DJ 10th September 2013: Pioneer DJ is adding a new colour option to its popular Digital DJ SX (model name: DDJ-SX) controller for Serato DJ software: cool pearl white. Like the original black model, the Digital DJ SX-W (model name: DDJ-SX-W) comes with Serato DJ in the box and pre-mapped buttons and dials for all the software’s exciting features. So DJs can just plug-and-play, with intuitive control of Serato DJ’s four decks, eight Hot Cues, six samples, and more than thirty high-quality FX Powered by iZotope. The DDJ-SX-W has tactile performance features to put the DJ centre stage. Sixteen rubber LED Performance Pads can trigger four modes – Hot Cue, Slicer, Roll and Sampler – and control the volume of samples by how hard the DJ hits the pad. Dual Deck Control enables live edits on two decks simultaneously; and Slip Mode silently continues playback while DJs perform loops, scratches and reverses without affecting the original track direction. With its aluminium jog wheel and cool, white gloss finish, the DDJ-SX-W is both stylish and durable. And it can be used as a four-channel stand-alone mixer, giving DJs the flexibility of connecting to CDJs or turntables for even more performance options. The DDJ-SX-W, bundled with Serato DJ, is available from September at an SRP of EUR 999/ GBP 809, including VAT. KEY FEATURES OF THE DDJ-SX SERIES 1. Native control of all Serato DJ’s amazing features Pioneer worked closely with Serato to combine the features of the software with the operability of the hardware to create true plug-and-play compatibility and intuitive control. The DDJ-SX series has dedicated controls for all the software’s features including: • Four deck control • More than 30 high-quality sound FX Powered by iZotope • Eight cue points on each deck • Syncable six slot sample bank • Auto Loops, Manual Loops and Loop Roll • Slicer to chop up tracks and create new arrangements • Dual deck control 2. Enhanced performance features for truly hands-on live performances Pro-DJs can use a combination of buttons, dials, faders, jog wheels and Performance Pads to stamp their mark on every set. • Performance Pads make mashing up tracks even more fun The DDJ-SX series’ large, rubber Performance Pads are assigned to four modes – Hot Cue, Roll, Sampler and Slicer – while Velocity Mode means DJs can control the sample volume by how hard they hit the LED pads. • Slip Mode for precision edits Inherited from the new club-standard CDJ-2000nexus, Slip Mode silently continues track playback during a loop, reverse or scratch and brings the music back at the right point when the DJ exits the performance. • Improved jog wheel enhances scratching pleasure The DDJ-SX series has the industry’s lowest latency jog wheel, which has been fine-tuned to ensure DJs always get the scratch response they expect. Plus the controller borrows the backlit-LED On-Jog Display from the club-standard CDJs, showing the playback status of the current track for even greater scratch and reverse precision. • Sound Colour Filters on every channel Like the DJM-900nexus professional mixer, the DDJ-SX series boasts a Sound Colour Filter for each channel. DJs twist the dial left for Lo Pass Filter and right for Hi Pass Filter, for even more creative sweeps, blends and FX manipulation. This works with the software and external sources, with a hardware filter built-in. 3. Professional build quality and design with two colour options The controller has been built with the rigours of professional use in mind. The high-quality faders are robust and durable, while the push-button style knobs were designed with portability in mind. And the aluminium jog wheels and choice between black or white top plate give the DDJ-SX series a premium look that will fit right into any booth. 4. Multiple input and output options for every DJ set-up Four inputs allow DJs to connect the controller to DJ players and/or turntables to use it as a stand-alone mixer. Two master outputs (XLR and RCA) and a booth output enable connections direct to professional PA equipment. And two MIC inputs open up possibilities for MCing and announcements. 5. High audio quality The controller inherits its high-quality audio circuitry from Pioneer’s pro-DJ equipment. A built-in 24-bit sound card, low-jitter clock and high-performance DAC ensure a clean, powerful sound with no degradation. 6. Other features • Channel Fader Start: use the channel fader to control cues • Needle Search: touch strip for intuitive, fast searches • Master level and channel level meters: instantly identify levels on each channel • MIDI compatible: control any DJ software • Crossfader curve adjust: to suit any type of sound Source: djworx.com there ya go scottie
