I avoid compressed music like the plague, hence why I buy and will always buy records. I dont care what people buy, thats their deal, but I can honestly hear the difference, when you consider a full resolution file can be 3000 kb/s+ and and mp3 is 320 kb/s, thats a lot of discarded data, and with the wonder of destructive compression is that most people cant hear so more power to them I guess. I've been a musician for over 10 years and i have no problem composing music in an acoustic realm, the reason I choose to work in a box is because the things I want to create would be an impossibility with "real" instrumements, so I have no shame in using software.
