  1. Zeds Dead have finally released their debut album 'Northern Lights'. Yes, it is finally here, and ready to stream in full! The Canadian duo have been a large entity in the electronic spectrum for a long while now, building a stacked catalogue of music over the years (who can forget their dubby 2011 EP 'Adrenaline'), however it was just over a year ago that DC and Hooks revealed plans on a debut LP, and after 13 months, the wait is over. 'Northern Lights' is 15-tracks of power, with a huge list of features from the likes of Pusha T, Diplo, Elliphant and NGHTMRE among others; showcasing a huge progression in their production style and range. Zeds Dead - who we spoke with last week - will be on Aussie shores come December for the HARD Summer tour along with GTA and Destructo. Find out more here. Stream 'Northern Lights' below and tell us what you make of it! Source

  3. Drake just claimed the throne to Spotify’s most-streamed track, dethroning Major Lazer’s ubiquitous “Lean On” after a hearty reign. And the new king tune in Spotify’s history? None other than Views’ “One Dance.” Last November, “Lean On” had a comfortable 526 million plays around the world, but “One Dance” has now amassed a whopping 880 million plays, while Drake himself has over eight billion… damn. However, the news is’t too surprising, as music streaming services more or less called this one back in June. H/T Fader | Image via DMahoney Photo This article was first published on Your EDM. 4. Well, Don Diablo has been teasing this remix for Rihanna, and it’s finally out! Don Diablo has remixed Rihanna’s “Love On The Brain” and it’s not at all what we expected. Rather than a house beat or any of its derivatives, even future bass, Diablo has spun this track into a super poppy minimal trap remix. Focusing heavily on vocal chops and the piano melody, with some choice 808s over it, the remix isn’t really hard enough to strain the subs at a show. That being said, it’s extremely well produced and at least interesting. Check it out below. Image via Rukes This article was first published on Your EDM. 5. The cleanest Doof this side of the Murray River, Subsonic, has just added a stack of local acts to an already impressive lineup, with the likes of Andy Webb, Ben Fester, Tele Funken and Champain Lyf joining the bill. In a press release published this morning, Subsonic organisers have claimed that they are holding true to their promise "to deliver the best underground music the world has to offer." We tend to think that's a fair statement. There're too many new names to mention, but you can see them all here. Why not check out this throwback vid from last years instalment whilst you're at it? What: Subsonic Music Festival 2016 When: 2nd - 4th December Where: Barrington Tops, NSW. How: You can find tickets and other info here. [Image Source: Facebook] Source
  6. Yeah. it's a 3d model so motion design stuff is all doable
  7. Banks has separated herself from her contemporaries with “The Altar”. With her 2014 debut album, “Goddess“, Banks had already proclaimed herself a deity amongst mortals. With her sophomore effort, “The Altar” she finds herself carefully examining the pedestal she now stands on. “The Altar” stands as Banks’ best work to date on a number of levels. Banks is indeed looking down on lesser artists as she finds herself at the height of her creativity. While the album is empowering at times it’s vulnerability and first-person narrative provide the perfect compliment to Banks’ undeniable talent. The album opens up with “Gemini Feed”, as Banks proceeds to throw shade at an ex-partner of hers over a dark beat with synths to match her icy demeanor. While Banks may not have a certified “hit” yet this track certainly has the crossover potential to change that. The album’s next several songs each seamlessly come together and will have the listener quickly losing track of time. The stand too the buns to me however, is “Fuck With Myself” in which Banks reiterates her self-love. “I fuck with myself more than anybody else”. The song has an eastern feel that combined with Banks sensual tone and dark undertones make for a track worthy of more than a few spins. Immediately following “Gemini Feed” this combo packs quite the one-two punch to open the album that only continues to impress. To authentically convey the sea-love in a pop-song is an inherently difficult task. That’s to be expected in a genre filled with larger than life personas and constant outside pressure to live up to the impossible bar of perfection. Banks has nonetheless separated herself from her contemporaries with “The Altar”. Despite the many external pressures of the media and popular culture that have both played a large role in the on-going crisis of self worth plaguing Western society Banks has effortlessly and elegantly blocked out the noise surrounding her music and has simultaneously elevated her artistic stature as a result. You can stream “The Altar” in its entirety below. Let me know what your favorite songs are in the comments. 9. No one likes being the victim of a hack, obviously. It’s a vicious invasion of privacy that makes you feel needlessly vulnerable, and makes you fear for the safety of other personal and sensitive information online. And depending on where you’re hacked – bank account, social media, etc. – the repercussions could be deep. For Drew Taggart of The Chainsmokers, this hack has sent his followers into a frenzy. Vicious attacks against collaborator Halsey, calling her “whore” and “slut” and other worse phrases, were thrown around with wanton disregard. Screenshots of a faked Snapchat conversation between Halsey and Diplo were also shared, seemingly showing the two of them agreeing to have sex at a later time. All these tweets have since been deleted. While we’re not questioning that Drew was hacked, it’s crazy to think that he was hacked 18 minutes prior, got his account back, deleted the old tweets, and then was hacked again. Either he’s choosing some really easy passwords, or something else is going on. Of course, the irony of the situation is that this was his most recently favorited tweet. 10. It’s Thursday night, mere hours before Hurricane Andrew hits the coast of Florida. Cars zoom down interstates to evacuate, residents pack supermarkets to stock up on food and water and Governor Rick Scott declares a state of emergency. Yet, a music festival set to take place that weekend in Miami (with the first day scheduled for the following day) did not back down. Festival organizers watched the storm’s trajectory closely and prepared for a wide gambit of outcomes. Attendees traveled south to avoid the potential landfall of the storm and safely prep for the event. It’s true; music festivals are really some of the most powerful forces in modern society. In its fourth year, III Points stood face-to-face with Mother Nature and survived. Hurricane Matthew ended up turning more into the Atlantic Ocean and almost entirely avoided Miami, much to the satisfaction of organizers, attendees and artists alike. The hurricane became the running talking point of the weekend’s festivities in the Wynwood art district of Miami. It caused headlining band LCD Soundsystem to cancel along with Oneohtrix Point Never and others and prevented Your EDM from making it down to Miami to experience the first day of the festival. Yet, we soldiered on and drove down to the Mana Wynwood venue hosting the festival to experience the final two days of the festival. Credit: III Points After attending the festival last year, we can comment on one definite change: III Points has grown. A lot. An army of stacked shipping containers created a passageway for attendees as they entered, guiding them to the towering Mind Melt stage. A sizable step up from its predecessor last year, this Mind Melt ran as large as stages one would find at bigger music festivals. Artists such as M83, Jacques Greene and Thievery Corporation performed here, a fitting platform for more live-centric artists and bands. Inside the actual Mana Wynwood warehouse lied the Main Frame stage, which stood before tall pillars decked with LED screens. This stage drew big crowds to artists the entire weekend, from the much anticipated collaborative performance of Method Man & Redman to the otherworldly beats DJed by Flying Lotus, not to mention deeper sets delivered from the likes of DJ Koze, Black Coffee, Andy Stott and more. The festival also hosted four other stages, including the deep-friendly and Soulection-showcasing (at least on Sunday, the final day) Isotropic stage, a smaller Mind Melt-type stage called Sector 3, the smaller warehouse Door IV and the local-friendly Sunset @ Noon stage. Every stage transported attendees to its own unique world, some layered in visual-heavy production while others showcased the performers first and foremost. Photo Credit: III Points III Points prides itself on being a festival that highlights the best of art and technology among its musical roster, and we must recognize that pride is well-placed. This year’s event offered a variety of exciting and innovative art displays and technological hubs, much more than most bigger festivals offer by a long-shot. It packed in everything from a virtual reality experience that took users to Mars to a graffiti-laden school bus. The festival also does a great job in putting a spotlight on the lesser-known musicians rising in Miami, a great treat for both people wandering stages looking to discover new artists and dedicated, local contingents looking to home grow the next superstars. In terms of actual sets, pretty much everyone exceeded expectations. We heard great reports from artists such as Dixon, KiNK and Vince Staples on the first day, and the second and third days packed in so much good music that we we barely had time to breathe. Saturday assembled a mammoth lineup for the Isotropic stage, bringing the likes of Leon Vynehall, DJ Tennis and Ben UFO for hours of deliciously experimental, groovy and techo-hinged bliss. Meanwhile, Main Frame enlisted its own roster of superb talent, ranging from Black Coffee to Maya Jane Coles, both of whom’s sets were much anticipated among Miami fans who had not been able to see them in the city in almost a year (or in the case of Maya Jane Coles, years!). Sunday proved to be a bit more of a relaxed day, and that was quite alright given the intensity of Saturday. While sets from M83 and Jacques provided some fun, no one compared to the insanity of Flying Lotus and the soul searching of DJ Koze. Fly Lo assaulted our senses with his own productions, video game OST remixes and a surprise appearance from rapper Denzel Curry, while DJ Koze took us on a journey through some of the best house music we’ve heard in ages. Both capped off the festival excellently. Credit: III Points III Points had a lot to lose if Hurricane Matthew caused its cancellation, but fate smiled kindly upon the festival. This year only proved that both III Points organizers and attendees possess a determined moxy to keep the party going at all costs, and that moxy paid off big time for a festival only in its fourth year. We look forward to seeing what’s to come from III Points in the years to come, ideally without the looming threat of a hurricane. Until next year! This article was first published on Your EDM. 17. Whenever someone whines about Brisbane being behind the times, I always think about our burgeoning nightlife scene. In the face of stringent laws, lockout policies and other things that old people think are a good idea, we’ve produced some world-class talent. On top of that, we’ve held some of the most epic parties in Australia and run the Bigsound gauntlet for a thumping stint. Adding to this is the resurgence of creativity in the nightlife world. Punters are no longer content with the routine of a Friday night local lineup at a bar half- full. Being fixated on a local DJ while people scream in your ear just isn’t as fun as it used to be. Nowadays, people demand experiences, and where there’s demand, there’s supply. In 2016 alone, Brisbane – alongside all our other Australian capital cities – have been privy to a swarm of world-class parties. Most recently, Bacardi have proved themselves changemakers and luminaries via their huge, free ‘House of Bacardi’ parties, set to descend upon Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Featuring after dark heroes like Goodgod, Pelvis, Daydreams, A Love Supreme and more, the parties will coincide with a three-part(y) video series that hones in on local nightlife as a unified front, but also the people shaping the late night scenes in each of our cities. At its core, the ‘House of Bacardi’ tour serves as a springboard for Bacardi, who plan to spend much of summer getting behind those party throwers and fans who are changing the cultural fabric of our cities. The beauty of this is, of course, the fact our nightlife scene needs every bit of support it can get, and if a brand like Bacardi is willing to put on free parties around Australia to help rally the troops, count us in. 18. Chicago is widely recognised as the birthplace of House. From Frankie Knuckles to Jesse Saunders, it's important to remember that, just like any other art form, the origin of music matters. If you agree with the above, you might be keen on a trip down Hot Mix 5 Way, on the other side of the world, where small venues all of Chicago have become exempt from paying a three percent tax on admission fees. Officials from the area boiled the change down to seeing DJ acts and live music venues as "recognised art forms," with the Cook County Commissioner (no pun intended) John Fritchey saying: "This agreement makes it clear that it was never the intent of the Administration for the County to play culture police and make decisions on what is, or isn’t, music or art." This seemingly small change is a big win for the smaller venues pushing fresh talent in the city. Something Chicago venue owner, Joe Shanahan, knows all too well: "These musical styles are all recognised as art around the world and Chicago is rightly recognised as the birthplace of some of the best-known artists .... this agreement confirms that government officials should not be the arbiters of what constitutes art." Fancy a quick trip to Chicago, anyone? Here something from a special place in time to get you in the mood: [Source: Mixmag] Source
  19. MTV just launched their new Wonderland series, and for the first time in 20 years, the weekly show will host an exclusive hour of live music, featuring a diverse lineup and eclectic format. “Wonderland will provide a platform for artists to express and reveal who they are in whatever performance or content inspires them to connect with their fans.” On last week’s installment of the series, Steve Aoki teamed up with Blink-182 and Lil Jon to play a host of classics, and Aoki premiered the takeover with his new collaboration with the punk legends, “Bored To Death.” Even ILoveMakonnen and Autoerotique turned out to serve up some crowd favorites. 20. Martin Garrix is about to drop the fourth track of his series of seven releases, and after debuting it at Ultra Music Festival back in March, nearly everyone thought it was an Avicii ID. Nope, it’s “Hold On & Believe,” and it’s a straight up Martin Garrix original. The melodies are exquisitely on point, and with the help of The Federal Empire, this new single is about to roar through main stages and radios across the world. The band even uploaded an acoustic version of the tune that’s just as delightful as the dance tune if you’re into a more relaxed, folky vibe. Check them both out below, and stay tuned for the official release soon. Image by Rukes.com This article was first published on Your EDM. With eight events across five countries in just nine days on this latest run, Ultra has shown itself to be among the greatest EDM brands in the world. Over one million people attended an Ultra event this year, and 165 million tuned in online to one of the many live streams. Ultra’s latest and final tour of 2016, which ran from October 7-15, saw it produce brand new standalone Resistance shows in Paraguay (SOLD OUT), Peru (SOLD OUT) and Chile (SOLD OUT); return ‘Road To Ultra’ events in Peru, Chile, Bolivia and Paraguay; and the full-scale debut edition of Ultra Brasil in Rio de Janeiro which also SOLD OUT. In an exclusive partnership with MTV Latin America (and in a first for Ultra Worldwide), Ultra Brasil alone was broadcast live to over 50 million households in 26 countries across the continent. 22. Legendary selector Jeff Mills has walked off stage mid-set after being hit by a glass bottle. The disgusting occurrence took place in Spain's Area 42 nightspot on Sunday morning during Mills' headline set at around 4:30am, before the 53-year-old DJ ended the show and walked off stage. Unfortunately this isn't the first case of foul play from a crowd we've seen this year, with UK producer Duke Dumont being spat on last month during his show at Edmonton’s Union Hall. This is not cool. What the f*ck?! Another horrible factor to this news on Jeff Mills is that it isn't the first time it's happened to this veteran DJ, who in 2013 was hit on the head by glass during a show at Atlantico in Rome. Area 42 has addressed on the issue via Facebook, thanking the crowd members who had the right intentions and calling out the few who clearly didn't. Read the post in full below. Hopefully this is the last time we have to write on this topic. (Via Dancing Astronaut) Source
  23. Here we go, another week, another headline of The Chainsmokers making EDM (and musical) history with the most ever weeks they’ve ever spent at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 as they cruise into their ninth consecutive week in the top spot. This current streak in number one matches OutKast’s record for the second-longest amount of time spent at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 which they did with “Hey Ya!”. The record for longest amount of time spent at #1 on the charts by a duo is currently held by Los Del Rio who did it for 14 weeks in 1996 with “Macarena (Bayside Boys Mix).” Congrats to The Chainsmokers and we’ll see if they can match the record! If they’ve got their eye on the prize they might be a tad worried because right behind them in #2 are Daft Punk and The Weeknd with “Starboy.” Streamed 25.6 million times over the charting period, “Starboy” holds steady at #2 for the second week in a row and is the most recent release of all the songs in the top 10 – making it the ideal candidate to steal the #1 spot. Justin Bieber should be pretty happy though as he’s again sitting pretty in #4 and #7 respectively, with “Let Me Love You” with DJ Snake, and “Cold Water,” which fell three places in a single week. Things to look out for the next time the chart updates include how high “All We Know” will have climbed, whether or not “Don’t Let Me Down” can make it 35 (!!!) consecutive weeks in the charts, or if “This Is What You Came For” can rebound back into the top 10! 24. Michael Brun is one of the most inspiring artists of this age. At the ripe age of 24, the Haitian DJ/Producer has already created a successful music label, along with a festival, and has even earned a nomination for the World’s Best EDM Artist. He’s a man who keeps finding ways to redefine himself and his art simply by his passion and love for music. I got the chance to chat with Michael and to be honest, I felt somewhat intimidated talking to a man who’s done so much and achieved so much success and also had a big impact on my life and my career. That noisy voice of comparison started ringing in my head but I decided to tune it out and simply talk with the guy, and really get to know his heart. It went only twenty minutes but I swear it could have lasted for days and I wouldn’t have complained. The minute he picked up the phone I knew we were in for a great conversation. He has a warm, friendly tone and made it extremely easy to have a conversation. We started out by talking about him and his story. Growing up in Haiti, he kept stating how blessed and grateful he was for his family: “They never let me take anything for granted. Each day they would tell me how blessed I was to be alive, to be earning an education, to have a family.” It was that mentality and support that drove him to pursue the dreams on his heart. After he graduated high school, he went directly into military school, and then got an opportunity to come to the States to study medicine. He was funded by scholarships that were donated by anonymous individuals, but it was their generosity that never left him. It shifted something inside of him to someday use his resources and give back to others. While in the States, he began creating and producing electronic music, which eventually earned the likes of Prog House legend, Dirty South, who seemingly took Michael under his wing. The hard work never ended. In fact, it only drove Michael to work even harder at his craft. Soon his music was being played all over the world, earning #1 spots on Beatport’s charts, and even earning him a nomination for World’s Best EDM Artist at the World Music Awards in 2014. And yes, he is only 24. Amidst all the success, he is incredibly humble, which got us talking about the festival he created, titled ‘Wherever I Go’ that successfully launched this past July in Haiti. It’s entirely unique to the majority of festivals we hear about these days, because this was created specifically for Haiti, as a means to educate and inspire local students in the arts. He mentioned, “So often people are told that Haiti is an aid-country. That we always need the help of others. That we are broken, but that’s not the full truth. I wanted to do this to show that there is a immense amount of art, creativity, and talent in the minds of our people.” He couldn’t be more accurate. In the months leading up to the festival, Michael worked with students from the Audio Institute in Haiti to create the song “Wherever I Go.” Make sure to watch the video that accompanies as well; it is extremely powerful. Michael mentioned that “one of the most important things about this project and festival was allowing the kids to see with their own eye what collaboration and hard work can do.” He actually brought all of the kids on stage when he played the tune in front of thousands of people! The elation on each kid’s face gave the promise that this was a moment they would never forget. While Michael finds a great joy inspiring the youth of his country, he also is able to do so on a grander scale through managing and operating his very own label, titled Kid Coconut. It features a variety of artists based all over the world. Michael mentioned, “I listen through each demo we sent. It’s amazing. I love hearing what’s inspiring other artists.” He is very adamant about helping with the mix downs as well. He alluded back to when “I first started releasing music, I would send my mixes to Dirty South, and he would send them back with his mix down, and it would blow me away! I sucked at first [laughs].” He’s without a doubt curating top of the line talent with Kid Coconut, and the best is yet to come. Oh yeah, on top of this, Michael was responsible for one of the lead singles in Netflix’s XOXO original film – his song was the main song in the movie, titled “All I Ever Wanted.” What’s so neat about this is not only is this another huge success for the young artist, but it was a song “written specifically for the film.” Rather than use an older tune, Michael made it clear he wanted to produce something “fresh, specifically inspired by the moments in the movie.” It’s this intention and dedication that will simply give you the chills when you hear the song. It’s entirely euphoric. Concluding the interview, we got to discuss his brand new single, “Jupiter”, which has been continually hyped as his “biggest track to date”. I had to know why. He seemed excited to explain as he said, “I’ve been working on Jupiter for over a year, adjusting little details. This song signifies a whole new step in terms of what I’m going to be doing with my music, all building towards this sort of spiritual EP/album. All music after this is going to be tying together all the things I’ve been doing in Haiti and electronic music in general.” Jupiter is the Genesis of it all. You can hear it in all of its glory for yourself below. Michael Brun is man with an incredible story who is continually inspiring and influencing everyone who he comes in contact with. Even myself. We’re so excited for this young star and cannot wait to see all that’s in store for his future! Visit Michael Brun’s Website This article was first published on Your EDM. 25. Pacha Group had been hoping to sell their vast catalogue of assets for a whopping €500 million, but they’ve just closed a deal for €350 million. Pacha has long been a staple of the world’s club scene, and of course its famed Ibiza venue will be sorely missed after hosting countless residencies and wild extravagancies over its 40+ year legacy. News of Pacha’s impending sale came in September, when the chain’s Founder, Ricardo Urgell, exclaimed that he could no longer stand the business practices of Ushuaïa’s ownership, the Matutes. “I feel like an honest person trying to do the best possible. We have to want more for the island, invest in it, appreciate it and love her, so that we’re not only benefitting ourselves. People need to promote projects to improve Ibiza. It’s important that the island does not lose the magic.” Even with such advice, Urgell isn’t too hopeful for the future of the island, saying that the rapid expansion and irresponsible partying has begun to take its toll on the natural environment. “The island has spoiled areas that will be difficult to recover. If we continue at this pace, it will eventually move to the north of the island. Music should be controlled [in its legal space]. We cannot have music everywhere.” But fear not, this won’t be the last endeavor of the Pacha visionary. He says he’s got several projects underway, including an investment in a nameless Cuban venture. H/T Mixmag | Photo by Rukes.com This article was first published on Your EDM.
