AUSTRALIAN DJ FORUMS

A-Trak has responded to an article on Avicii in GQ Magazine via the medium of Twitter.

His tweeting spree began with: "So there's an @Avicii article in @GQMagazine where he says his sets are completely pre-planned & reading the crowd is a thing of the past..."

An inner monologue of sorts then ensued from the Canadian DJ and producer where he said: "He also complains about opening djs who play the same big songs from his set -- which are the same songs everyone else plays..."

"So if I understand correctly, DJs should be robots and each pre-planned robot should know their place...?"

The Fools Gold Records boss then made it clear he has nothing but respect for the Swedish super producer: "By the way I think @avicii makes great music. Sincerely. But if you play the same thing every night you're not a DJ."

"Dudes live in a bubble, they think what they hear in bottle service clubs and festivals is djing. That's just entertainment."

"Enjoy the entertainment, I play at those spots too. It wouldn't hurt to be a bit creative though."

A-Track then tweeted "By the way while we're on the topic " and posted a video of one of his latest impressive scratch routines which you can watch below.

He then signed off with: "Welcome to the EDM circus show."

Avicii did respond saying the interview in GQ was taken out of context, but did not proceed to say much else. This did however spark a huge debate amongst DJs including Tommie Sunshine, Toddla T, Alex Metric, Laidback Luke, Eats Everything and many more.

Avicii is a faggot full stop.

Easily one of the worst djs going around at the moment.

As far as punters go, I'd say he's one of the biggest

And DJ's playing before a headliner probably shouldn't play the bangers that the headliner is going to drop

This is a retarded call though:

"his sets are completely pre-planned & reading the crowd is a thing of the past..."

That just goes to prove punters these days are morons who don't give a fuck and only want to hear the top chart bangers over and over

There is no doubting his popularity and huge name, but musically and technically he leaves alot to be desired.

I think he has just about moved from club commercial to full on commercial now.

Used to love his older stuff.

What I don't get is how DJ's like him can pull those crowds then play mediocre sets that the crowds all fucking love like it was the best day of their life

If only we could get back to not knowing/caring who the DJ was. Knowing that a certain party's music policy is suited to you should be enough.

make it about the music (and the E)

Because crowds these days are full of roided up wankers and dumb bitches, who hear the poor excuses for music on the radio and go buy tickets to the festivals.

Number 1 rule for Aussie festivals, is stay away from the mainstage. Less idiots and far better music on the side stages.

i think the point A-trak is trying to make is clear, even if he has wrapped it up with some unneccesary disrespect.

There are still clubs/ movements and DJs who keep it real, and crowds who appreciate that. This side of dance culture has a culture and history and will last as long as it does.

Then there is the EDM circus/fashion trend/festival circuit. It is a hugely popular industry which now outsells the venues previously filled by anthemic rock acts. It is likely to last as long as the industry can milk it. The crowds enjoying it are mostly sheep who, when fashion changes, will follow the next thing they are told is the current lifestyle to partake in.

These are two distinct and different things but in a Venn diagram there would be a small intersection between the two.

This intersecting area seems to confuse some people.

Nothing has changed from where I'm looking.
