it you just backspin the outgoing track and suddenly slam on the incoming track it sounds shit, but if youve been mixing your two tracks together for 32 bars or whatever and backspin the outgoing track at the last second right before the inncoming track goes into a drop or a release/build section it can sound awesome. backspins sound best I reckon when its just a beat thats playing, so during the last 16 bars of the song in the outro typically. backspins while its mainly synths sounds fucking terrible.

he wouldve slowed down Cinema to beat match it with the house track, cant remember what he did after but. when you slow it down that much each bass kick is like quadrupled and sounds super glitchy. so shit.

the music wasnt that bad, the sound was just shit. plus the DJs were doing shit like beatmatching Cinema which is like 146bpm I think with your standard 128bpm house tracks. anything +/- 4bpm sounds so shitty so imo so that was overkill.

breakdowns are usually where there is the most focus on vocals so the crowd will be heaps into it anyway (depending on whether its a good song or not), plus its never likely to be more than 16 or so bars (usually more like 8 bars) before the drums of the build section start to kick in. I wouldnt really worry bout it too much.
