You might think that the LEAF was invented to get back at dudes that drive at three in the morning with their massive subs cranked up – but it’s actually used for research. in the photo above, Engineer Kees van Zijtveldt is standing beside the largest sound horn of ESA’s Large European Acoustic Facility (LEAF), capable of subjecting satellites to the same noise a launcher produces as it takes off and flies through the atmosphere. It is the most powerful sound system in Europe, but no human being could survive hearing it at maximum output. Large European Acoustic Facility (LEAF) LEAF is an integral part of ESA's ESTEC Test Centre in Noordwijk, the Netherlands, a collection of spaceflight simulation facilities under a single roof. One wall of the chamber, which stands 11 m wide by 9 m deep and 16.4 m high, is embedded with a set of enormous sound horns. Nitrogen shot through the horns can produce a range of noise up to more than 154 decibels, like standing close to multiple jets taking off. The LEAF includes safety features to ensure that its lethal audio capabilities are not tested. It can operate only once all the doors are closed. Steel-reinforced concrete walls safely contain its noise, coated with epoxy resin to reflect noise to produce a uniform sound field within the chamber. The chamber itself is supported on rubber bearing pads to isolate it from its surroundings. Source: synthtopia.com

Because this is a pretty important milestone for Serato, they’ve issued a press release: Serato announces the resignation of Sam Gribben, CEO. “The year ahead is bright for Serato, the product roadmap looks amazing, and I’ve spent the last three years bringing together a strong executive team. Now feels like a great time to hand over the reigns.” AJ Bertenshaw and Steve West co-founded Serato Audio Research in 1999. AJ will be returning to the company as CEO after serving as Chairman of the Board. “Sam Gribben has been a huge asset to Serato for the last 10 years having joined the company when we were 5 years old and growing through to his current role as CEO. I’ve enjoyed partnering with him from the boardroom and am looking forward to the opportunity to return full time to the company. I want to thank Sam for his years of dedication and hard work to help grow Serato into the success that it is today.” Sam will finish in his current position on March 31, 2014. “My dream was to be part of a company that made incredible DJ software, to change the way people thought about what could be possible with DJing and to make it easy for DJs to perform in new ways. I feel that I’ve accomplished what I set out to achieve.” Source: djworx.com

As part of the 56th GRAMMY Awards, The Recording Academy presented a Special Merit Award to Kraftwerk for their contributions to the recording field. Kraftwerk received the Lifetime Achievement Award, in addition to The Beatles, Mexican songwriter Armando Manzanero, country singer Kris Kristofferson, funk band the Isley Brothers as well as – posthumously – the blues musician Clifton Chenier and violinist Maud Powell. Of this year’s Lifetime Award designees, Recording Academy head Neil Portnow said, “This astoundingly unique and gifted group have created some of the most distinguished and influential work in our musical history. Their legacies are timeless and legendary, and their creativity will continue to influence and inspire future generations.” Kraftwerk’s Ralf Hütter used some of the lyrics to “The Robots” to accept their award: “We’re charging our battery And now we’re full of energy We’re functioning automatic And we are dancing mechanic We are programmed just to do Anything you want us to We are the robots. Thank you.” Source: synthtopia.com

ye most web results seem to be around people with outdated versions of traktor etc. in my post above. it turns out if you are not using iTunes as your source. You can create playlists and edit the bpm the way i mentioned above with out changing the metadata of the original file. its still overly complex for a simple thing though.
-
so far the only way i have found is to Edit the track manually in Traktor. set it to your desired bpm and traktor will run it at that. always. you can always restore the tracks to the original bpm at anytime via Edit mode. maybe an idea for making a mix. terrible idea for playing live.
-
i dunno mate... i tried a few things just now but everything resets when i load up traktor. also had a failed search around the web... *edit: now im interested if traktor can do it.

NAMM 2014 lighting news courtesy of ADJ. This time it’s a new moonflower (a single unit that fires multiple LED dots) called the ADJ Monster Beam, a 5 colour 25 LED unit improved output and power and DMX daisy chaining. More words from ADJ: New Higher Powered Monster Beam, 25W LED Moonflower, Offers Thicker Beams In Red, Green, Blue, White and now Amber. The Moonflower effect has always been one of the most popular effects among DJs, nightclubs, bars, roller rinks and bowling centers because of its ease-of-use and colorful, moving beams of light that help create excitement for any type of party. The new Monster Beam takes your lightshow to the next level with a higher capacity LED engine than any other ADJ Moonflower to date. In fact, this fixture boasts a massive 25-Watts of LED output, creating “monstrous” thick beams to be used with or without fog. The fixture’s beam angle is an impressive 29-degrees, and easily covers a large area. If fog is not allowed, the Monster Beam’s large, bright dot patterns may still be projected at a wall, ceiling or the dance floor. Not only is it brighter, but it’s more colorful too. The Monster Beam is illuminated by 25 LEDs: 5 red, 5 green 5 blue, 5 white and now 5 amber. Each LED uses a powerful 1-Watt source. All LEDs are rated at a 50,000 hour lifespan. “Moonflowers have always been one of our most popular effects installed in entertainment centers, or among mobile entertainers,” said, Alfred Gonzales, national sales manager for ADJ USA. “With the continuous advancements in LED technology, our customers have asked for higher powered Moonflowers with more colors. With the new 25W output boost, the new addition of amber, creating more colors, and now with thicker beams of light, the Monster Beam is sure to be a big seller in 2014!” Just as exciting as the thick, high output multi-colored beams are the fixtures built-in programs. Just plug the unit in and set it to sound active mode. The Monster Beam will deliver worry-free, pure lighting excitement so you can focus on the music and your patrons. Along with a Sound Active mode, the Monster Beam also may be operated in DMX mode. Or connect multiple units together and they will all impressively do the same thing in Master/Slave mode. Additional control of this Moonflower may come from the ADJ UC3, easy-to-use controller, which is sold separately. The Monster Beam’s digital display and 4-button user menu allow easy control of the fixture operation. There are also DMX In/Out link-ability and IEC In/Out power connectors to daisy-chain up to 7 Monster Beams at 120V operation, or 12 Monster Beams at 230V operation. Its multi-voltage operation (100-240V, 50/60Hz) means you don’t need to worry about voltage requirements. Just plug it in and it will sense your power requirements. A hanging bracket to attach on truss or pipes and a safety loop to attach a safety cable are included on the unit. The maximum draw is a very low 40-Watts of power. The dimensions of the Monster Beam is 15.5” x 10” x 8.25” / 213x254x207 mm, and the weight is only 8 pounds / 3.3 kgs. Despite the name, the ADJ Monster Beam is a relatively small unit that puts out a serious amount of light for not a lot of power. I like that it’s chain able for power and DMX, as well as being sound activated and having internal shows. I imagine that not everyone wants to take the time out to program a light show, so it’s a unit that suits plug and play, as well as bigger operations too. The ADJ Monster Beam seems to have a street price of $249/£179 so it’s not a terribly expensive unit for the performance you’re getting. Source: djworx.com
