  1. I am also guilty. It's a bit hard when DJing to follow a lot of these, so I'd say it's more of an audiophile guide.
  2. I think this is what you're looking for http://www.discomusic.com/101-more/6193_0_7_0_C/
  3. holy thread revival. This song came on randomly just now, and definitely worthy of a post:
  4. My Aeon is a sweet techno dungeon that's perfect for a Xhin set. If you're down that weekend definitely let me know.
  5. As always, production quality is on point

does MOTD stand for Mix Of The Day, or Mitch Of The Day?
  9. Budget really depends what you're after. Not just specs, I can help with some basic ones of that: go for an i7 processor if possible - if not an i5 will suffice. Quad core if you can 8GB RAM - RAM is cheap these days, so go for 8GB at least HDD depends on how much junk you have. go for SSD if you can get one in the budget what are you looking for in terms of screen size, weight and portability? As you can get a higher specced laptop that's big and heavy for cheaper than a light portable one, etc. Hot tip - you can get a refurbished model significantly cheaper - check here for Dell available refurbs. They update the page all the time - http://www.dell.com/learn/au/en/audhs1/campaigns/dell-outlet-au

  14. the new one is the PLX 500 - it's a digital turntable with USB out as well as normal RCA. It's not available yet in Aus as far as I know. the PLX 1000 got a decent review though, although it was a fully analogue table, and must be a better build at double the price. If you're looking for something cheap just to play https://www.storedj.com.au/products/STN-T62 I think these are the ones @Cupe has and seem OK. But if you want it for sampling, might be better to hold out for the PLX 500 as you can record straight from USB without needing a soundcard as well. o, also make sure you get good needles - the ones that come with the turntables are usually average. These are the ones I have, which are a decent midrange concorde - https://www.storedj.com.au/products/ORT-OCCONPROS

  16. Depending on what funk you're playing, it can be a weird. Also tempo changes in the tracks can make it more difficult. If you want to count the BPM of your tracks you can get this app https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/bpm/id296956954?mt=8 Find a few records you have that are similar tempo, or even the same tempo would be perfect for beginning to learn. Something with a consistent kick makes it easier to get the technique down pat in the early phases. This youtube playlist is full of beginner DJ tutorials, scroll down to the bottom (hit load more) to find some of the older ones which are based on vinyl. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLkqsu4WzeMg7hmBi9Nr7lK4lqoOYZpVvW Also just to touch on what oxy said: -2 on the pitch fader isn't equal to 2 BPM, it's -2%. If the track's original tempo was exactly 100 BPM this would be correct, but if a track was originally playing at (exactly) 80 BPM, moving the pitch fader -2% would make it 78.4 BPM. If a track was originally at 130BPM, -2% would make it 127.4 BPM... Also one of the joys of vinyl is you need to be aware of the fact you may get small fluctuations in pitch depending on how good your decks are etc. Good luck
  17. Straight arm came in for better tracking for scratching and stuff, however people have been scratching since forever on technics, so I wouldn't get caught up on that. If you're only getting something to listen to records on, you don't need anything too over the top and I'd go for curved tonearm. Mostly what you get for the extra money is better torque which is important for DJing, and better build quality. I'd say get a basic turntable, but then get decent needles for listening that have decent sound quality and minimal wear on the record, you don't need super tracking (which wears the vinyl out more) if you're not DJing. I don't have much experience with anything other than Technics, but what's your budget?

  19. I'm also from Melbourne But I play mainly disco/house/techno, which the older you go the funkier it gets
  20. You had me at the funk. Then lost me a little as I'm not really sure what breakcore is. Welcome what part of the world do you reside?
  21. Yeah I don't mind spending the money as long as it's the right thing for me that I'll use + good build etc. They've got the crane on special @ store dj for $160 down from $240 atm so I might jump on it. $240 just seems a tad over the top
  22. Anyone got a good laptop stand that didn't cost a fortune? Link me up. Haven't looked of recent, but last time I checked they were a bit of a rip.
