  1. Ah, yeah gold coast. Totally different scene down here in Melbourne. I'm sure the commercial scene exists and is just as crappy, but as far as the disco/house/techno scene goes, there's lots of good clubs and bars, as well as lots of great DJs/producers. Somewhat saturated, but the underground scene is vibrant. Because the standard is high at the moment, anyone who's no good doesn't get to hang around for long. Nightlife is just a fancy jukebox with the option to have the video clips playing on screens as well. Can either have someone there picking songs, or just set a playlist and forget.
  2. Depends on the target market. Everywhere that I play/everyone that books me builds the line-up and set times to fit a desired genre/mood/feel/flow for the evening. This is mostly clubs and bars, which won't change. As for DJing house parties and small functions, that's a complete different story. Nobody will pay for the time and effort to get a proper DJ when you can get cheap speakers and plug your phone in with spotify for the same/cheaper price.

  8. What side of Melbourne are you on? I don't shop for hip hop, but off the top of my head you could probably try: City - Wax Museum Plug 7 - Fitzroy Northside records - Fitzroy Record fairs are probably the best bang for buck though, you can check here https://www.facebook.com/Melbourne-Record-Fairs-240598775951288/ I went to the kew one and it was pretty good.
  9. I also noticed it. All good now

  11. Beatport does have a lot, but I legitimately rate bandcamp higher these days - lots of underground music with the money going straight to the label/artist, also plenty of free stuff. Always remember when buying/downloading - it's not about how much you get, but the quality of what you get no use having to sift through junk in your own collection to find the gems

  13. I'm not a DnB person, but I do most of my purchases from traxsource these days. I notice they don't have a DnB section. Juno download and beatport should both have DnB sections. Other than that, soundcloud and bandcamp have plenty of free music. @OxyKon can probably help with some more specifics as to where the good stuff is on these sites

  17. The good stuff is hard to find. I picked up some decent disco & funk at a record fair in Kew the other week. Just need to keep an eye out on Facebook as to when they're on

  22. My response to both of those is practice, practice, practice! You won't need to rely on the screens / auto sync The technology is much better than it was, but I'm sure everyone will agree with me that you need to be able to work without it if you need to (e.g. track is a bit obscure and the beatgrid doesn't detect properly). I will say the rekordbox beat grid is generally fairly accurate.
  23. 1. Rekordbox automatically analyses and detects beatgrid. I don't believe it can import hot cues from VDJ 2. I haven't personally seen/used the screen on the XDJ-RX. However given the range of equipment I've used over the years, I tend to not use/rely on the screen much, short of track selection obviously. If you were going to get the SZ you could very well move to serato software as well, which is much better in all aspects than VDJ. I've only personally used rekordbox to prep USBs for CDJs, so I'm not sure how stable/polished the controller support is at this stage. As far as what controller to choose, need to ask yourself the following questions: -what are you going to use it for? If you're practising to get into clubs, the XDJ-RX is probably your best bet as it's the most similar to a CDJ setup out of the 3, as you can practice DJing off USB sticks and no laptop -how important is having/not having the laptop to you? If you want to keep to a controller setup, the SZ/RZ give you more features for your money (4 decks etc.) -Budget? Hope this helps
