Toward the end of 2017, Alison Wonderland announced an ambitious series of shows in her native Australia called the ‘Wonderland Scarehouse Project’ tour. This tour would be a showcase for Alison and friends to play music to their hearts’ content in warehouses in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Auckland without the worry of noise complaints. She was joined on the tour by a number of artists including Lunice, Lido, Party Favor, and ASAP Ferg. Despite the hometown shows and stellar supporting cast, the tour suffered a significant loss at the expense of Alison Wonderland, the promoters and investors, as well as others involved in making sure the tour ran smoothly. The company under which the tour was run, Wonderland Touring Pty, now owes $776,000 to debtors and has chosen to undergo liquidation as a “last resort.” We reached out to Alison’s team in an effort to better understand the situation, who responded with the following statement: Tireless efforts are continued to be made in order to settle outstanding supplier balances from the festival tour. The festival tour as a whole incurred significant losses, due in large part to extreme weather the weekend of the VIC event resulting in relocation in just 24 hours. Liquidation of the company was actioned as a last resort and the only way the promoters and investors were able to move forward with the process of reimbursing affected parties. The people who lost the most money in this situation are Alexandra Sholler (Alison Wonderland) and the other investors/promoters. She suffered a huge personal financial loss and has waived her claims in order to make sure other debtors receive more. Her team are very committed to continuing to work in assisting affected suppliers and the liquidator in recovering all outstanding monies to distribute accordingly. Alison Wonderland will tour Australia again, in partnership with Secret Sounds (promoters of Splendour in the Grass), while she and her team work to pay back those who are owed money. While Virgil Abloh has been the artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s men’s collection since March of this year, he blesses the people with some fine tunes for the summer. The fashion designer recently unleashed an hour-long DJ mix including everyone from DJ Koze and Pearson Sound to Cardi B and Drake. The exclusive Solid Steel Radio Show mix was filmed in London. Abloh states, “Deejaying in London is always a great time because I like to create a contemporary dialogue with the audience but also root it in vast history of the many sub-genres that makes London super unique.”His first taste in music includes producing on Boys Noize‘s recent collaborative three-track EP titled Orvnge. 1788-L‘s free fall to the forefront of the scene and into the hearts of Rezz fans was spurred by her release of their collaborative track, “H E X,” from her then-unreleased album a few months back. The anonymous producer’s curiously-crafted, Rezz-adjacent (yet, somehow stranger) sound first bore fruit after his timely remix of Virtual Self’s “Particle Arts.” The enigmatic artist’s latest release, “N U / V E R / K A” is the bleeding embodiment of experimental electronic, with elements of electro, glitch, and tech sprinkled throughout—in no particular order. The track’s whirlwind arrangement only adds to the dizzying merriment, as the listener is sucked into the oscillating 1788-L continuum. Source

Hudson Mohawke has released the full track from his “troll” assist on Sacha Baron Cohen’s Who is America, and it’s eight ridiculous minutes long. The Scottish producer helped Cohen — who plays Ricky Sherman aka DJ 5olitary — get a booking at the Sway nightclub in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Together, they succeed. The track is titled “Cell-by-date (feat. Steve, Derek and some bloke off the nonce wing),” and can be downloaded for free on SoundCloud. Mohawke’s arrangement of stabbing, sex noises, the crash of metal lunch trays on skulls is apparently what it takes to make it in today’s music industry. Try not to mind the full minute of a soundbite of “slash him, slash his face/ kill him/ stop fucking recording/ get him off me,” about seven minutes in. Of course, we’re happy for DJ 5olitary; it appears that he’s finally gotten the 14th chance he deserves, as noted on his Twitter profile. Enough drive, and he might be the next headlining act at EDC. This week, music lost one of its greatest legends — Aretha Franklin, The Queen of Soul. It seems everyone has been inspired by the singer’s voice, undisputedly one of the very best our world has ever known. Take any artist of any genre and chances are they’ve been impacted by Franklin’s soulful sound at one point or another. Gramatik is one of those artists and he has been sampling Aretha for years. Recently, he produced three new beats for his forthcoming SB5 project featuring her voice, and in light of recent events he decided to put this one out as a tribute to remember the goddess. Along with his new release, “Let Me Know The Way,” Gramatik offers some background on the beat and expands on his deep connection to Aretha’s music. Back when I was in 8th grade, I discovered sampling and found out it’s the basis of hip hop production and culture. I was captivated by this art form and she was one of the first artists I sampled in that same week. Over the last 15+ years, I’ve sampled her countless times and learned the craft through sampling her amazing discography. 2 of the most prominent beats of mine with samples of her are “In This Whole World” and “I’m Free”, and even to this day, coincidentally, I made 3 beats last month for SB5 with samples from her songs, this is one of them. She was a force of nature, a voice of a generation and an inspiration to us all. We will miss you dearly, my Queen. It’s a challenge for any artist to match the powerful energy of Aretha Franklin, but Gramatik does her some serious justice through his beautiful tribute. Hopefully she’s listening and loving this vibe. Real recognize real. RIP. Gramatik – Let Me Know The Way (Aretha Franklin Tribute) Photo via Gramatik This article was first published on Your EDM. It seems David Guetta is heating up before summer comes to an end. He commenced the weekend of August 17 with a fresh remix of “Oceans,” by Martin Garrix and Khalid. He takes a housier route with his rendition, though he still emulates the mellow tone of the original in doing so. We’re left with another surefire hit for open dancefloors — an expected result when one powerhouse hitmaker remixes another. The release was followed by an even bigger bomb: Guetta’s latest collaborator for an original work is Black Coffee. They make an unlikely duo on paper, given the former’s success in the pop/crossover world, and the latter’s in deep and Afro house. Given Guetta’s past in deep house and his diverse list of collaborators to date, however, the pairing isn’t too surprising. The single, titled “Drive,” will be released on August 24. It seems the two are opting to wait until the release for fans to hear it, as well; only the album artwork has been unveiled thus far. Photo credit: Ushuaïa Ibiza Source

Fallout surrounding incidents at Love Saves The Day festival in Bristol, United Kingdom continues for Jackmaster, after further clarifying his public apology about events that took place there. The popular DJ had taken to his Facebook page on August 15 to issue the apology for “behaving inappropriately and offensively” toward staff members at the festival during a drug-induced blackout. As a result, the locality’s Motion club has also pulled him from his headlining spot on the lineup of its In:Motion event. They “mutually agreed” it was the best thing to do, per the venue’s announcement. Resident Advisor received statements from an anonymous victim of Jackmaster’s behavior, Love Saves The Day, and an expansion from Jackmaster himself about what truly happened. The DJ confessed, “my actions involved attempting to kiss and grab people against their will,” after ingesting past the threshold of a safer GHB dosage and subsequently losing his memory of his choices thereafter. He also admitted he’d had a problem with the substance, and had relapsed. Since then, he’s been on a path to change his lifestyle and improve. Before he’d let the full details go of his abusive behavior that night, Jackmaster’s vague apology led to a response that was, “quite sickening, in that it was hijacked by untruths and lad humour,” per a statement of the anonymous victim of his harrassment. Her account from that night detailed a scene where she felt helpless at the hands of onlookers who, “just stood by like it was OK behaviour.” She’d felt afraid to meet with him at first, but later felt he’d been sincere in his apology. Love Saves The Day reiterated their stance on sexual assault, and their care for employees in their statement. Their ideals have been shared by Motion, who explained that they “operate a zero tolerance policy” when it comes to behavior of this nature. Jackmaster’s statement in full: On Monday I posted in good faith apologising for my behaviour at Love Saves The Day festival. The responses online twisted the story, with distorted accounts becoming further twisted through follow up dialogues—in all directions, from both over-exaggerated to jokingly uninformed. The situation is no laughing matter, and the post was far from a means to paint myself in a positive manner. I was abusive and acted lewdly and inappropriately towards numerous members of staff at the festival—both female and male—during a drug-induced blackout, which I had put myself into after my performance by drinking a substance called GHB. GHB, and its variant GBL, is a drug that I have struggled with for some time and on the Saturday night of Love Saves The Day I relapsed, and rather than taking what could be considered a “regular” dose of GHB, I was seen to drink it directly from the bottle. During the ensuing blackout, my actions involved attempting to kiss and grab people against their will. I am truly disgusted and ashamed of myself, and I do not wish to use my substance abuse as an excuse for my actions. This type of behaviour should not be tolerated—and was completely out of character from me. I have let myself, staff at the festival and those closest to me down. Although I don’t recognise the person recounted to me, I alone take full responsibility for my actions and the effect on those involved. After meeting with those involved, staff, and other representatives of the Love Saves The Day team, my apologies were accepted by all parties. After discussing several steps forward, including me raising the idea of handing myself into the police with the intention of this being open, it was agreed that a public apology and an undertaking to never repeat the behaviour would be an acceptable conclusion, as none of the individual staff wished to pursue formal complaints to the authorities. Following this, we mutually agreed I would post Monday’s statement, but in retrospect it was too ambiguous. The timing of this discussion was delayed since late May in part due to a family bereavement and all those involved allowing me to grieve, which I would like to thank them for. It was also to give time to Love Saves The Day to fully investigate the complaints against me from their staff. I am attempting to address my personal issues head on, speaking to those involved personally, making changes to my lifestyle and working to ensure that others receive support. I will continue to work alongside the Love Saves The Day team on this matter. Out of respect to those involved in the above statement, I will not be returning to Bristol to perform for the duration of this year. I hope to be back next year. The victim’s: Although I wish to remain anonymous, I was one of the female members of staff who was a recipient of Jack’s actions on the night of Love Saves The Day. Jack’s behaviour on the night towards me crossed the boundaries of acceptability, regardless of the fact he was clearly off his head. What made the matter worse is that it happened in front of so many people, and so many witnesses, and it took far too long for anybody to step in and try to take control of Jack or intervene in the slightest. People just stood by like it was OK behaviour. Myself and other staff that he hurt, offended and upset on the night spoke with the festival management and decided that the incidents had to be addressed and not ignored. Jack agreed to meet directly with all the staff his actions had affected on the night to offer his apologies. In that meeting, I was able to directly address Jack to tell him how humiliated and upset his behaviour made me feel and the fact it’s something that hasn’t left my mind since it happened. The meeting environment was quite intense; I was afraid to see him again even though he had reached out to me before the face-to-face to offer his apology. There was an agenda, but before we had started, he had said that he would do whatever it takes to make us all feel better. If we wanted him to go hand himself into the police right now, he would do it, offer a public apology, whatever it took to make us all feel better again. I could see and feel he was completely sincere in what he was saying. He said he was disgusted by his own behaviour and that this had been the catalyst for him making real changes to his life. At the end of the meeting, we all agreed with Jack that a public apology might help prevent this type of behaviour happening again anywhere in the industry and encourage people to step in quicker to stop it. Everyone has a responsibility to intervene when they see something like that happening, and if they don’t feel they can step in, they should go and get help. That the response to his post on Monday was quite sickening, in that it was hijacked by untruths and lad humour—perhaps this is systematic of UK culture at the moment—is why it is so important for Jack to clarify what happened. Love Saves The Day: Jack’s unacceptable behaviour at the event, towards our staff, could not be ignored, which is why we and representatives of our staff met with Jack, and he offered to issue a public apology, and together plant a marker in the sand that this sort of thing can and should not be tolerated in our industry. Given the reaction to the statement he put up on Monday, and the total misrepresentation of the facts and the issue we were trying to raise, it was important for him to clarify the situation and our staff appreciate he is trying to do this. Jack has committed to take steps to ensure he never repeats his behaviour in the future, and we all appreciate this, but this is not just about Jack, this is about the industry as a whole and making sure that any kind of behaviour like this is stamped out. None of our staff wish to pursue the matter any further and have accepted his apologies and support his undertaking to move forward from this in the right way. 1/3 In light of recent events, news on Resident Advisor and as a mark of respect to those affected, Motion and Jackmaster have mutually agreed for Jack to not appear at our upcoming This Is In:Motion event. — Motion Bristol (@MotionBristol) August 17, 2018 2/3 As always, Motion operates a zero tolerance policy toward any behaviour of this kind. Should one of our customers or staff ever witness or become subject to sexual harassment we ask for you to speak to one of our trained members of staff who – — Motion Bristol (@MotionBristol) August 17, 2018 3/3 – will deal with the situation appropriately. Calvin Harris is one of the hottest names in the DJ world — scratch that — in all of music. But, if you ask him, he’s getting “too old” to go on tour. This comes as quite a surprise, because the producer is currently thriving with residencies in Ibiza and Las Vegas, just dropped a brand new heater with Sam Smith, and recently topped Forbes’ list of highest-paid DJs for 2018. It sounds to us like Calvin Harris is on top of his game, but the 34-year old thinks he’s well past his prime for touring. In a reveal to the Boogie & Arlene radio show, Harris opened up about his new single “Promises” and his thoughts on studio life versus touring. “I’ve done tours before but for me, I think my personal strength is in the studio — It’s what I enjoy the most.” “But a tour? No way. I can’t do tours any more. I’m too old.” To put this in perspective, David Guetta is 50, Tiesto is 49, Laidback Luke is 41, and Steve Aoki is the ripe age of 40. So, age is really just a number, right? Calvin Harris On Boogie in the Morning Photo via Rukes.com This article was first published on Your EDM. A very special guest was in attendance for Jack White’s concert in San Francisco on Thursday night: The great of Tom Waits, whose public appearances have become a rarity in recent years, came out for the Boarding House Reach tour stop at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium. “Tom Waits came to Jack White’s performance in San Francisco and made all the musicians in the band confirm and pay testament to their love of the religion of music,” captions an Instagram photo of the music legends together. “He also stole Jack’s watch.” “A million thanks and tributes to Saint Tom from Jack and the band.” Waits was last seen in public in September 2017 when he joined Mavis Staples on stage. He recently remastered and reissued his entire back catalog on vinyl, and is set to appear in the forthcoming Robert Redford film The Old Man and the Gun. As for White, he recently expanded his Boarding House Reach tour with a leg of Canadian tour dates. Source

Last night around 8pm local time, Das Energi Festival in Salt Lake City, Utah began to experience heavy rain and winds that eventually forced the festival to shut down and evacuate attendees for a number of hours. Sets from Ray Volpe, Midnight Tyrannosaurus and more on the Galactic Flats stage were cancelled as a consequence of parts of the staging collapsing. Sets on the Energi Field and Synergy Station stages were rescheduled and the festival re-opened later that night. Reports on the ground at the time alleged that an attendee had been struck by part of the falling staging, though Das Energi denies knowledge of any incident in their official statement, sent out last night. The forecast for tonight lists chance of precipitation below 20%, so hopefully there will not be a repeat of last night’s unfortunate situation. Read Das Energi’s official statement below. Due to unforeseen circumstances and unpredictable weather, Das Energi Festival night 1 was temporarily shut down and out door stages evacuated for the safety of our patrons. Unexpected high winds, lightning storms, and heavy rain caused the shutdown at approximately 8:15 PM on Friday, August 17th. This decision was in the best interest of festival attendees, and made to ensure the safety of our patrons. V2 comments, “It is unfortunate and we apologize to our patrons for the unexpected situation, but we are working hard to get the festival back up and running, once it is safe to do so.” Some reports have come in of an injury at the festival. No serious injuries occured due to the swift evacuation of the outdoor stages, but we continue to monitor these reports. Kodak Black was released from a Broward County, FL jail early Saturday morning after serving seven months behind bars. In January, the 21-year-old rapper was arrested following an Instagram Live stream in which he appeared next to his child while in possession of a gun and marijuana. He was subsequently charged with grand theft of a firearm, possession of marijuana, child neglect, two counts of possession of a weapon by a felon, and two counts of probation violation, though a majority of the charges were later dropped after Kodak Black pleaded guilty to minor parole violations. Kodak Black’s original sentence ran until October, but his sentence was reduced by a judge, leading to today’s early release. While in jail, Kodak Black changed his birth name from Dieuson Octave to Bill K. Kapri, and he earned his GED. But as Complex notes, Kodak Black isn’t entirely in the clear. He was indicted on unrelated sexual assault charges in October 2017 and is now awaiting trial. Out now via Thrive Music is the new EP from Havok Roth, Polarized. This 4-track EP is a bass lover’s wet dream, with plenty of squelching bass and nasty rhythms to make you wonder what you ate before you went to bed. Then again, there’s also the anthemic and comparably “pretty” song “Down” with Kastoway that cuts the EP in two. However, the final track on the EP, “Rows,” rights the ship and goes hard with one massive track before all is said and done. Check out Polarized below. This article was first published on Your EDM. Another tragic story to report, as Korn singer Jonathan Davis’ estranged wife Deven died today (August 17th) at the age of 39. According to TMZ, Deven’s death comes on the same day Jonathan had filed a restraining order against her. In a statement that was provided by his publicist minutes ago, Jonathan and his family said, “The Davis family is brokenhearted over the devastating loss of Deven Davis. We ask that you respect their privacy — and the privacy of those close to the family — and allow them the space to mourn in private. We thank you for your love, understanding and prayers of support during this difficult time.” While they were technically still married, Jonathan had filed for divorce back in October of 2016. But they seemed to be together in a Facebook Live video from December 2017. However, TMZ reported that earlier today, Jonathan filed a domestic violence restraining order against Deven. The Korn singer alleged that Deven was a heavy drug user, and a judge issued an temporary order to stop Deven from visiting their children. TMZ further reports that Deven was living in a sober house but recently went missing. In his court documents, Jonathan claimed that Deven was “constantly under the influence of the nitrous oxide, cocaine and Norco.” He also alleged that he found Deven passed out on the floor with a heroin pipe and cocaine floating in a nearby toilet bowl. Deven, a former porn star, married Jonathan in 2004. They had two children together. Our thoughts are with the Davis family at this time. This is a developing story. Source

Opeth have announced the upcoming release of a new live album and concert video titled Garden of the Titans: Live at Red Rocks Amphitheater, which arrives on November 2nd. The audio and visuals were captured at the legendary Colorado venue on May 17, 2017, as the band was touring the U.S. in support of their most recent album, Sorceress. The filming of the Swedish progressive death metal band was overseen by The Deka Brothers, the French directors who have made videos for Gojira and Carpenter Brut. And the audio for the show was mixed by David Castillo, a studio vet who helped engineer Opeth’s 2008 album, Watershed. This new release will hopefully tide Opeth fans over while they wait for a new studio disc from the group. According to an interview that guitarist and vocalist Mikael Åkerfeldt gave to eonmusic last year, the band hopes to have the new album out by mid-to-late 2019. Garden of the Titans will be available on CD and vinyl (with multiple color options to choose from), and the filmed concert will be released on DVD and Blu-ray. Pre-orders are available here.
