A recent tour Pearl Jam tour poster struck a chord with enablers of Donald Trump, as it depicted the president’s rotten corpse being eaten by a bald eagle on the lawn of a burning White House. The National Republican Senatorial Committee called the poster the latest example of the “unhinged” left “encouraging violence” against Trump, while making no mention of the frequent instances in which Trump himself has promoted violence against journalists, women, and minorities while also failing to condemn white supremacists. Anyway… Jeff Ament, the bassist from Pearl Jam who was responsible for designing the poster, has now issued a statement responding to the criticism. “The role of artists is to make people think and feel, and the current administration has us thinking and feeling,” Ament said. “I was the sole conceptualist of this poster, and I welcome all interpretations and discourse. Love, from the First Amendment, Jeff Ament.” Source

Slash Ft. Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators have just released a second song from their upcoming album, Living the Dream. The uptempo, bluesy track “Mind Your Manners” can be heard below. “Mind Your Manners” follows the disc’s first single, “Driving Rain,” which was unveiled a few weeks back. That song has already cracked the Top 20 at mainstream rock radio. Regarding “Mind Your Manners”, Slash says in a press release, “I wrote this song on the spot to help the band get up and running once we got back in the studio this past January. It’s just a go-for-it type of song — pretty straightforward rock and fun to play.” Singer Myles Kennedy adds, “‘Mind Your Manners’ was something I didn’t hear until the guys had started jamming together. It’s a cool, up-tempo sort of thing and I knew immediately it would have its own place on this record. Lyrically, it’s about how when things are going well there always tends to be someone who tries to rain on your parade and knock you down. You have to keep people like that in check and not let them get to you.” In addition to unleashing the new song, Slash and company have added a new Los Angeles show to their fall tour. The gig will take place October 16th at The Palladium, and will close out the trek. The tour begins in Los Angeles, as well, kicking off September 13th at the Whisky A Go Go. A full list of dates can be found at this location, while tickets can be purchased here. Living the Dream comes out September 21st. Pre-orders for the album are available here. Source

After months of pre-production rumors and casting info, HBO has finally seen all the fanboys and detractors of Zack Snyder‘s version of Watchmen look up and shout “Save us!”, and whispered “….all right then.” Via Variety, HBO has officially ordered Damon Lindelof’s much-anticipated Watchmen adaptation to series. Set to debut in 2019, the show will be a “remixed” version of Alan Moore, Dave Gibbons and John Higgins‘ seminal graphic novel of the same name. The show, presumably like the novel, will be set in an alternate Earth with its own dark, twisted history, a world where superheroes are outlawed. Among the announced cast are Regina King, Jeremy Irons, Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Adelaide Clemens, Andrew Howard, Tom Mison, Frances Fisher, Jacob Ming-Trent, Sara Vickers, Dylan Schombing, Lily Rose Smith, and Adelynn Spoon. Lindelof will write the series, and executive produce along with Joseph Iberti, Tom Spezialy, and directors Stephen Williams and Nicole Kassell. According to the network’s official description, “Watchmen embraces the nostalgia of the original groundbreaking graphic novel while attempting to break new ground of its own.” This matches Lindelof’s own letter to fans in May, where he stipulated that he wouldn’t be rehashing the events of the novel, but instead telling a story with different characters in the same universe. While the showrunner’s controversial track record gives us pause (LOST, anyone?), here’s hoping Watchmen‘s energy matches the superlative work of his previous show with HBO, The Leftovers. Source

John Dwyer’s ever prolific, multi-monikered band Oh Sees (or Thee Oh Sees, or OCS, or The Ohsees…) are back with their new album, Smote Reverser. Stream the entire thing below via Spotify and Apple Music. Smote Reverser marks the garage psych rockers’ first full-length record of 2018, following last year’s Orc and Memory of a Cut Off Head. That latter effort was released under the name OCS, which Dwyer told Billboard was not a flippant choice: “They’re two different bands honestly. Two different lineups. The origin of the OCS came from this band [Orinoka Crash Suite]. We just wanted to get back to writing like that. But I also wanted to write a record with Brigid Dawson. I wanted to do something specifically with her. And it ended up being a lot of fun so I’m glad we did it. But this is more the double-drummer thing. This is more fun. This is my kind of permanent touring act. Acoustic guitar wouldn’t really work for me in this live rendition of the band.” This time, added Dwyer, “The songs are less about drugs and fucking and more trying to not be a terrible human I guess.” The effort was teased with early singles “Overthrown” and “C”. Stream it all below. Smote Reverser Artwork: Smote Reverser Tracklist: 01. Sentient Oona 02. Enrique El Cobrador 03. C 04. Overthrown 05. Last Peace 06. Moon Bog 07. Anthemic Aggressor 08. This past weekend, many like minded festival goers gathered from near and far in the boutique town known as Palm Springs for a highly anticipated house music festival, Splash House. The event spanned over three different hotel pools as well as an unparalleled after party location at the Palm Springs Air Museum. Photo Credit: Quinn Tucker for Splash House Photo Credit: Miranda McDonald for Splash House Photo Credit: Quinn Tucker for Splash House Photo Credit: Miranda McDonald for Splash House Arriving Friday evening to the Air Museum, I was so excited to see what was in store. The venue was perfectly arranged; seeing the vintage planes under bistro lights surrounded by glowing smiles, truly set the tone for the weekend ahead. The breeze was a pleasant break from the heat while sipping on a Beatbox, wiggling under the stars to the exquisite techno, house, and disco sounds of The Black Madonna. Photo Credit: Gina Joy for Splash House Photo Credit: Gina Joy for Splash House Photo Credit: Gina Joy for Splash House Photo Credit: Quinn Tucker for Splash House Saturday we started our day at Seguaro with the sounds of Dateless, Anabel Englund & Matt Ossentjuk, and Hannah Wants. The hotel pool was surrounded by beautifully painted balconies that had been decorated to the T for the “Bitchin Balconies” competition. The heat had everyone soaking up the misters and hanging out in the pool to cool off enough to be able to dance. We met up with some friends and ventured over to the Renaissance to catch Walker & Royce and Louis the Child get groovy. The stage was set up in front of a massive Douglas C-47/DC-3 Skytrain airplane with the Palm Springs International Airport in the background. There was a point during Fisher’s set where the visuals played made it seem like the plane was coming in for landing. I could not have imagined a better venue and set up. We began our day with Dombresky and Kyle Watson at Seguaro before heading to catch a “Special Guest” set by Fisher at Riviera. Alice in Chains are truly taking over their hometown of Seattle during the week leading up to the release of their new album, Rainier Fog, which arrives August 24th. First it was announced that the Seattle Mariners would host an Alice in Chains night on Monday, August 20th, and now it’s been revealed that the band will perform at the top of Seattle’s famed Space Needle. The grunge goliaths will be rocking an acoustic set on Tuesday, August 21st, on the Space Needle’s new revolving glass floor, which sits 500 feet above the ground. The performance will then be broadcast on Friday, August 31st, at 5PM ET and PT by SiriusXM. “I’ve visited the Space Needle many times in my life and it’s going to be a real honor and a total trip for us to play there,” Alice In Chains guitarist-vocalist Jerry Cantrell said in a statement. “We’re so proud of this album and to be able to celebrate its release with a performance at one of our town’s most iconic landmarks is really special. It sorta reminds me of the time we did the ‘Again’ video, but instead of being 6 feet in the air rocking out on a glass floor, we’ll be 50 stories high…slight difference.” Rounding out the week of Alice in Chains events in Seattle will be a pop-up shop at The Crocodile venue on Thursday and Friday, featuring limited-edition merchandise. Alice in Chains have been previewing the album by releasing songs prior to its release, most recently unveiling the track “Never Fade”. Track by Track is a new music feature in which an artist takes us through their latest effort one track at a time. Trevor Powers put an end to his Youth Lagoon moniker in 2016. At the time, he said the trio of albums he released with the dream pop project — 2011’s The Year of Hibernation, 2013’s Wondrous Bughouse, and 2015’s Savage Hills Ballroom — “occupy a certain isolated & solitary spectrum; it is a space I no longer inhabit, nor want to inhabit. Youth Lagoon is complete.” He was far from finished with music, however, and now he’s back with his debut record under his own name, Mulberry Violence. The music Powers is making these days is far more experimental, an avant-pop collage of unpredictable, drastic noise. Informed by “crash courses” in jazz and classical music theory, the songs are “inspired by the visual works of artists such as Francis Bacon, Sister Gertrude Morgan, and Harry Clarke,” according to a press release. Over this jagged bed of sound Powers lays down the words of poetry he wrote while traveling the world. Mulberry Violence was previewed with the tracks “Playwright”, “Ache”, “Plaster Saint”, “XTC Idol” and “Dicegame”. The entire thing is now streaming below via Spotify and Apple Music. For deeper insight into this new effort, Powers has broken Mulberry Violence down Track by Track. “XTQ Idol”: The spark behind this track was visiting Seddlec Ossuary in the Czech Republic — it’s a small Roman Catholic church intricately adorned with the bones of 40,000 people. I wrote it with many individual movements because I wanted it to feel like the separate parts of a body all working together. “Dicegame”: This song came to be much like how my favorite painter, Francis Bacon, described one of his works — “It was like one continuous accident mountain on top of another.” I had six different versions of it and none of them were working until I had just the right kind of fuck up which ended up making the path glow. I like to view any work as slowly becoming its own living entity, and sometimes the place you are trying to take that entity is somewhere it doesn’t want to go. I always try to be in tune with that. Trevor Powers, photo by Chris Schoonover “Pretend It’s Confetti”: My goal was to make something that sounded like someone being perfectly ok with losing their mind. Like a brain that’s scrambling, deteriorating, and gradually becoming more deranged, but it causes this strange calming effect to the individual. “Clad In Skin”: One that was born from my spiritual bond with Ray Bradbury’s Something Wicked This Way Comes. That book really shook me — to the point of writing a personal soundtrack to it. This was one of the two pieces that survived from that project. “Playwright”: The last song I wrote for the album. Really highlights the most prevalent theme throughout the entire record which is the opposing forces constantly being at war around us. In order for there to be any dreams, there must also be nightmares. Everything has an inverse. “Film It All”: As a society, honest experiences are dying. Humans are brainwashed into thinking the only way we can capture anything is to take a picture or a video, when it actually suffocates the moment. Much like life itself, in order for an event to be truly significant, it must be fleeting. “Squelch”: The second of two pieces that remained after I trashed my Something Wicked This Way Comes soundtrack. Had to take a lot of breaks when writing this because it really effected my mood. Definitely had to give myself a lot of time to come down in between working on it and seeing other people. “Ache”: I almost didn’t include this on the album because I couldn’t crack the code until the zero hour. Ended up doing some major re-writes on the last day of recording in Texas, and it wasn’t until I wanted to tear my face off that it suddenly clicked. “Plaster Saint”: Another shape-shifter. Had close to ten other versions of it — ended up putting together multiple pieces from each version and that’s exactly what it needed… a very rewarding puzzle that taught me a lot. “Common Hoax”: This track is essentially a love song between two beings in alternate dimensions. They can only communicate through a recording device that broadcasts the signal. Source

The celebrations have been cut short for Young Thug, who was arrested at his own birthday party and Slime Language listening event in Los Angeles last night. The Atlanta rapper had rented out a Dave & Buster’s in Hollywood in order to host a joint 27th birthday and album release party. However, things went south when, according to The Blast (via Stereogum), one of his vehicles had “bumped a squad car that belonged to the police department.” Authorities then proceeded to execute a search of Thugger’s car, where they discovered several guns. Around 3 a.m., police handcuffed the MC and brought him down to a local station. TMZ reports that Thug has since been charged with felony gun possession. He was originally being held on $35,000 bond, but judging by his latest Instagram post, it appears he’s no longer in police custody. Find footage of the last night’s arrest below. Curveball, a three-day Phish festival set to kick off today, has been canceled due to health concerns. The festival was scheduled to take place in Watkins Glen, a Central New York village located about 200 miles west of Albany. Because of extensive rain earlier this week, the village experienced massive flooding leading to concerns over water quality, as the Star Gazette reports. The area wastewater treatment plant found high levels of turbidity in its water due to excessive debris from the floods. Local government officials were then forced to announce a mandatory boil water order for the village. In an effort to salvage Curveball, organizers attempted to bring in enough bottled water and water tanks to last the entire festival, but time constraints and the expected turnout — a whopping 30,000 people — proved to be too much to overcome. Ultimately, Curveball was unable to obtain the proper permits to continue on as planned. “Throughout the day, we were working on determining whether there was any ability to get alternate water on-site in order to preserve the event going forward,” Bradley Hutton, deputy commissioner for the state Health Department’s Office of Public Health, explained in a statement. “The sheer numbers of people on-site and the urgent timeframe that was needed, there was no way for the concert organizers and host location to make that happen.” In a statement of their own, Phish apologized for the cancellation: “We are so terribly sorry for the inconvenience that this is causing so many of you. We hope from the bottoms of our hearts that at the very least this news will reach you before too much disruption takes place in your personal lives. We know that people traveled far, at great expense. We understand that people are missing work, and changing their schedules around.. we wish so much that there was some way that this wasn’t happening.” Along with performances from Phish, Curveball promised a slate of various activities, attractions, and art installations this weekend. Below, read Phish’s full statement. Dear friends, our Phish family.. The four of us are writing this from directly behind the stage at Watkins Glen. We were about to walk onstage only moments ago for our traditional soundcheck jam for Curveball when we were told the heartbreaking news that due to the unsafe water conditions in the Village of Watkins Glen, our beloved festival is being canceled. We are still in shock. The entire site is already set up and ready to go after literally months of work by our beloved hardworking crew, many of whom have been here for weeks. Our families are here, our gear is set, our tents are up. We keep waiting for someone to come over and tell us that there is a solution, and that the festival can go on. Unfortunately, it is not possible. We are so terribly sorry for the inconvenience that this is causing so many of you. We hope from the bottoms of our hearts that at the very least this news will reach you before too much disruption takes place in your personal lives. We know that people traveled far, at great expense. We understand that people are missing work, and changing their schedules around.. we wish so much that there was some way that this wasn’t happening. This summer has been absolutely joyous, with each gig building on the previous one, and we were all buzzing with excitement about Curveball. Please accept our deepest apologies for the disruption that this has caused all of you.. We wish there was something else we could say. Thank you all from the depths of our souls for the joy that you continue to share with us every night. This has been the greatest summer we can remember. Travel safe and know that we are as heartbroken as all of you. We are standing back here behind the stage, at our party that we’ve been planning for over a year, and we have just told that it won’t happen. There’s just nothing we can do. Thank you all for your understanding. Animal Collective return today with Tangerine Reef, their audiovisual collaboration with “avant-garde coral macro-videography” duo Coral Morphologic (marine biologist Colin Foord and musician Jared McKay). The album and full-length film are both streaming below. Coming in celebration of the 2018 International Year of the Reef the project is just the latest collaborative effort between Avey Tare, Deakin, Geologist and Coral Morphologic. Geologist provided the soundtrack to Coral Morphologic’s 2011 short film Man O War, Foord gave the spoken word intro for Avey Tare’s “Coral Lords”, and that same year they worked together on a live performance called Coral Orgy. Tangerine Reef originally premiered live during David Lynch’s Festival of Disruption in New York earlier this year. In addition to the 13-track record, Tangerine Reef involves a movie that takes viewers deep into the oceans to explore the rare reefs of the oceans — “a literal underwater collective of animals,” as a press release notes. The PR also emphasizes that there was no artificial enhancement used in the film, meaning the “visual tone poem consisting of time-lapse and slow pans across surreal aquascapes of naturally fluorescent coral and cameos by alien-like reef creatures” are 100% natural. French DJ Romain Good was sent to earth in 1986 and 24 years later he was pulled into electro house. The attraction to electro house grew so strong he had to feel the energy of the music in the palm of his hands. He started producing music by remixing artists like Cold Blank, Mystery Skulls, Kygo, The Killers and Sean Paul to flex his skills in various realms of electronic music. Now you will find Romain Good playing electro house, trap, glitch hop, dubstep, drum and bass, future bass and moombahton. His music is a perfect mirror of his mission, attractive popping dreaming breaks, emerging into bad nightmare drops. photo credit Romain Good Romain Good ‘My Old Videogame’ While reviewing his catalog of releases you will notice he works a lot on a progression between parts with poppy synths. Good’s latest release ‘My Old Videogame’ is a dubstep heater. ‘My Old Videogame’ is a Maschera Franck original at 122 Beats Per Minute BPM. Romain somehow ties in his signature dubstep wobbles at 140 BPM, giving this track a life of it’s own to take us on an energetic adventure, as if we were in a videogame. You’ll be wishing you had a VR set to play video games with during a rave- to really simulate Romain’s concept. Prior to this release Romain Good offers us a hard dance track ‘For Real’ as a free download featuring Illegy on the mic. photo credit Romain Good ‘For Real’ is packed with energy and explicit lyrics, perfectly designed to set cause chaos on the dance floor. Then once you keep exploring his collection you will be introduced to his moombahton banger, ‘Epic Hangover‘, which is also a free download. Also, you will experience more hard dance with his wild ‘Popping Balloons With Guns’, an instant rave classic. Amongst all the mayhem, Good shows us a lighter side with his future bass remix of Jasmine Thompson‘s elegant ‘Mad World’. photo credit Romain Good Thank you Faithless, Moby, Kayzo and Riot and Skrillex for inspiring Romain to create music and Good’s ghost producer cats for really helping polish these singles off for us. The hard rock and metal community was hit hard with yesterday’s news that Huntress singer Jill Janus had committed suicide at the age of 43. Among the artists who was deeply affected by Janus’ death was Halestorm frontwoman Lzzy Hale, who penned a moving tribute to Janus. Janus was very open about her mental health struggles, candidly talking about her demons in interviews. She battled bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and manic depression throughout her life, and sadly, this past Tuesday (August 14th), she took her own life outside of Portland, Oregon. In remembering Janus, Hale also urged people going through similar struggles to seek help. Her full posting on Instagram reads as follows: “It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to one of our peers. Jill Janus, has died today. Jill was very open about her struggles with mental health and addiction. Now, more than ever, spanning across Every age group, the suicide rate is extremely high. I’d like to take a moment to state again how important it is to talk about mental health, and remind all of you out there battling demons that you are not alone. I have to navigate my own dark labyrinth and I turn to music and writing for my lifeline. I want to encourage you to keep searching for Your lifeline, something that makes You happy. It doesn’t matter if no one gets it but you…that’s ok! We need to Stop trying to live up to expectations that society places in front of us to make us feel Unworthy of love, beauty and success. We need to stop comparing ourselves to others. We need to stop trying to be “normal”. And we need to stop being quiet about our mental wellbeing. Asking for help doesn’t mean your broken. And if you don’t know how to ask for help that’s ok too, those of us who have a shoulder will let you lean on it! We are All in this life together. For those of you with the ability to lend a hand or and ear. DO IT! We have a responsibility to help each other, cuz everything we say, do and touch affects the whole race. We are all connected. And I’d also like to address how careful We need to be with prescription medications that doctors and people that we trust give us to try to fix us. Some side effects of these meds rewire your brain, to where even if you wouldn’t normally have suicidal thoughts, your brain actually starts thinking that it is logical…all due to meds. Please be careful my loves! To Jill, My sister of scream, I hope wherever you are you have found the peace that you couldn’t here. My deepest sympathy’s go out to Jill’s Family and her band Huntress during this time.” A short while later, Lzzy returned to Instagram to launch a hashtag campaign to raise awareness for mental health issues. She wrote: “Hey Freaks, I’d like to do something! I want everyone who has ever struggled with mental health to #RaiseYourHorns take a pic, tag and share it! The more people that are brave enough to put it out there, the more we will all see that we are not alone in our battles, in fact, we are the majority! Let’s get one step closer to breaking the mental health stigma! Much love in Rock n Roll #RaiseYourHorns” Source

Tash Sultana is just weeks away from the release of their highly anticipated debut album, Flow State. Following early singles “Salvation” and “Harvest Love”, the Australian songwriter/multi-instrumentalist and our latest Artist of the Month has unboxed a third song. Titled “Free Mind”, it finds Sultana flexing more bluesy, jazzy chops. Here, their vocals and the accompanying music — which they wrote, produced, performed and arranged by themselves — climb and slink with both complexity and elegance. “‘Free Mind’ was a song written over a couple of years,” Sultana explained on Instagram. “It was pretty much three different songs that I couldn’t figure out how to put together until one day when I was in the studio it kind of just fell into place. I don’t really write songs that are like 3 minutes 30 seconds because I find that super challenging but I feel like I said what I needed to say in those 3 and a half minutes.” Take a listen below via the track’s lyric video. Flow State hits stores August 31st through Mom + Pop and Sultana’s own Lonely Lands Records. To promote the LP, they are expected to tour North America this fall. Sultana recently delivered a memorable set at this year’s Lollapalooza Festival. Source

How you know this song is for you Sleeping Lion, the well-loved electronic-pop duo, has been on a songwriting rampage all summer long and their hard work is showing. Today, they release their latest single with all of its magic “How We Know” featuring the vocals of songstress Cass Miller. Sleeping Lion, including Nate Flaks and Noah Longworth McGuire, was started back in 2015 after they had written songs over Skype together one summer. At that time, Noah was in Rome and Nate was in New York. The pair has been everywhere, and a lot of times, not in the same place at the same time together; however, they have consistently worked together throughout the years producing and creating melodies, tracks, and projects that develop and define their unique sound. Now, they have stationed themselves in LA where in the past year they have collaborated with a record-breaking number over 60 artists. In addition to that, they’ve produced remixes for acts like Opia and Zealyn and even delivered their spring single “Easy For You”. The elements of “How We Know” are actually a lot more profound when you really take a listen to it. Blast the song on your headphones or on your speakers and sit back to take it all in. I’ve come to deem this the ultimate getaway song of the summer as it contains all of the roller coaster emotions of a bewildering and consequential relationship. As you are given reflections and flashbacks throughout the verses of the complications that heartbreak bring, we are brought back to the chorus where the true questions of love and misunderstandings are highlighted. “But we knew what we had when we lost it. Said we need a break, said we need to break it off, now I don’t want the space, you don’t want the space at all, it’d be better, but we never learned to let it go. This is how we know”. The echo-and-call format that Sleeping Lion is best-known for is highlighted by the clever layers that go between the two vocalists. Back and forth, they converse in each other’s disliking of the situation, fall back into disagreement, and return to the conclusion that they never wanted this trouble at all. While the voices between the two are powerful, silky, and angelic, almost whispering to each other, the instrumentation is just as forceful as it follows their voices like a ghost through out the rhythms, words, and harmonies. The best factor of this song is how it reminds you of the heat and the rush of it all when emotions are swirling and in commotion from mixed reactions–the production of the track is dreamy, mysterious, and enchanting, while also being loud, impactful, and abrasive. The evolution of Sleeping Lion’s sound has been a fun one to watch as they constantly refine and tune their music. They have really proven their dynamism by the versatility of their vocal collaborations. These masters of whimsical compositions are even making a big break in the live performance scene as they have headlined their own shows and have performed as direct support for other esteemed acts at venues such as The Peppermint Club (LA) and The Satellite (LA), and have opened for artists such as Brasstracks, Opia, Vesperteen, Transviolet and Vancouver Sleep Clinic. Sleeping Lion continues to shine and mystify with their ever-changing career and their dynamic collaborations. But wait! There is more magic to come from the guys this fall and we’re excited for that, so until then, enjoy the single above, and stay tuned. Ethan Hawke’s latest film, Juliet, Naked, opens in select theaters today. Based on Nick Hornby’s 2009 novel, the dramedy follows an unlikely romance between an English woman named Annie (Rose Byrne) and a reclusive rock star by the name of Tucker Crowe (Hawke). To embellish Crowe’s mythology, who’s something of a Paul Westerberg type, Hawke sings a handful of original songs, most of which were written by real-life rock stars, specifically Ryan Adams, Conor Oberst, M. Ward, and Robyn Hitchcock. Earlier this week, we heard Hawke and Oberst’s “LAX”. Now, the full soundtrack has been released, which also includes Hawke’s choice cover of the Kinks’ “Waterloo Sunset”. Stream the full album below via Apple Music and Spotify. Juliet, Naked Tracklist: 01. Sunday Never Comes – Ethan Hawke 02. LAX – Ethan Hawke 03. This is honestly some sort of wizardry. Mazde, a beat maker out of Germany, continues to exceed expectations with his latest tune Fine, made entirely from sounds he recorded from a garden! The track itself is a soothing, dreamy, ambient soundscape, with his own distorted vocals doing a lot of legwork. (as you’d expect, I mean he got all the other sounds from a garden). It cruises through with a catchy vocal hook and somehow retains the classic Mazde sound we’ve grown to love. Check out the video below and have a listen to the full tune here and tell us what you think! Is this the sort of thing you’d expect from your garden? Source

If all Matt Groening had ever done was create The Simpsons, one of the greatest television shows of all time, it would still have earned him a place in the pantheon of TV’s legendary creators. If all he had ever done was give life to Futurama, the cult classic sci-fi comedy that simply refuses to die, he would still have a claim to fame and have left an indelible mark on the small screen. But now Groening is about to unleash his newest creation, Disenchantment, another adult animated comedy, whose success or failure will determine whether Groening can carve out a place for this new series, distinguish it from its predecessors, and complete the TV show hat trick. The Simpsons debuted as a full-fledged television series in 1989 and became a nigh-instant hit. Futurama debuted a decade later, and while it had a much rockier road, it became a fan favorite in its own right. But it’s been almost 20 years since Groening last introduced a new cast of characters, and TV has changed immeasurably since the turn of the millennium that Philip J. Fry celebrated in Futurama’s series premiere. To make that third shot, Groening and his collaborators need to produce a show that can keep up with those changes, a daunting task to say the least. Matt Groening Characters (Fox) One way that Groening and company are keeping up with the times, however, is Disenchantment’s method and manner of distribution. Rather than airing on the Fox network, where Groening’s prior two series started, or even a cable channel like Adult Swim, Comedy Central, or FXX where they found new life, Disenchantment is dropping on Netflix in a single 10-episode dollop. And Groening’s also matching the modern standard — a shorter season order, with all episodes released at once — rather than his usual 22 episode jaunts aired on a weekly basis. That shorter episode order and all-at-once distribution helps Groening’s other big effort toward crafting Disenchantment for modern sensibilities — serialization. While The Simpsons has had smatterings of lasting character development and the occasional sequel episode, it’s almost purely episodic. And although Futurama featured a bigtime myth arc and allowed a few isolated plots to unspool over the course of a few episodes or even a few seasons, it too mainly told individual stories. Disenchantment, on the other hand, is following the lead of fellow Netflix animated series BoJack Horseman in putting together episodes that can be consumed as individual installments, but also present a larger story when taken as a whole, with serialized elements that continue from the beginning of the season to the end. It’s a first for a Groening-helmed television series. In light of how serialization gave another long-running animated series, South Park, a creative shot in the arm after almost 20 years on the air, there’s hope that this shift can do for Groening what it did for Trey Parker and Matt Stone. Disenchantment isn’t all risks and departures, though. Part of how Groening is trying to ensure a home run with his third at-bat is by going with what, or more specifically who, worked for him before. That means stocking the show’s writing staff with Bill Oakley and Josh Weinstein, a duo whose tenure as showrunners for The Simpsons produced some of the series’ best-loved and most experimental episodes, as well as Groening’s Futurama co-creator David X. Cohen, who’s no stranger to imbuing heart and humor into a genre setting. It also means bringing back voice talent from Groening’s previous hits, like John DiMaggio (Bender the robot), Billy West (Fry, Prof. Farnsworth, Zoidberg), and Tress MacNeille (Agnes Skinner, Linda the newscaster). In order to put Disenchantment on the map, Groening was ready to bring in the folks who’d helped him chart the right course on his prior shows. Still, even with that mass of talent, it’s a tricky thing to score a hit with a third television series. Audiences who sees Groening’s name on a new show arrive full of expectations from three decades of stories from Springfield and seven stop-and-start seasons of adventures with the Planet Express crew, which creates a need to fit a familiar style or risking putting off the fans who are anticipating more of what they already know. But if all a new series offers is reheated or remixed versions of what came before, viewers will get bored quickly. It’s a tough tightrope to walk for Groening or any creator with a known brand trying to get something new off the ground. Thankfully, Disenchantment seems poised to try to strike a balance on that front. While the show features Groening’s trademark overbite-sporting, googly-eyed character designs, and Futurama’s cel-shaded computer graphics, the visuals in “Dreamland” (the show’s setting) reflect a hand-drawn storybook look that fits the show’s medieval fantasy premise. The cynicism and loopiness of Groening’s humor is firmly present, but it’s also channeled through teenagers and young adults and their challenges to figure out who they are at a fraught time in their lives, something all-but absent from The Simpsons and Futurama. Disenchantment (Netflix) Disenchantment also features Groening’s first female lead — an alcoholic, lapsed princess named Bean (Abbi Jacobson). (That is, incidentally, one consistency across all three of Groening’s series — whatever the time and place, his lead characters all like the sauce.) That shift is not just the swap of a white shirt and blue pants for Middle Ages finery, though. The new series focuses on the obstacles and expectations placed in front of Bean by the society she was raised in and the difficulties and consequences that come when she tries to shake them off. Timeliness and social commentary are nothing new for Groening and company, nor is using the sillier setups of a fictional world to comment on the absurdities in the real one. But building this new show around a different type of protagonist, and the sort of real world problems she’d face (albeit filtered through a layer of swords and sorcery), helps keep the show fresh and relevant, even if it comes from a crew with loads and loads of experience. That sort of novelty is a boon to someone like Groening, trying to push his art in new directions after so many years in television. When Groening first pitched The Simpsons, he was a young and hungry cartoonist, pedaling his wry worldview to a then-fledgling network. Now he’s a comfortable 64-year-old multimillionaire, unveiling a new show in a very different media landscape and in a very different position from where he started. The leading indicators are promising, but time will tell whether the third time can be a charm for Groening and Disenchantment and if there’s still enough magic leftover from his first two outings to power another series of misfits and comic misadventures. Death Cab for Cutie today return with their new album, Thank You For Today. Subscribers of Apple Music and Spotify can stream it below. Thank You for Today marks the group’s ninth full-length to date and the follow-up to the Grammy-nominated Kintsugi, from 2015. Its 10 tracks were produced by Rich Costey (Fiona Apple Muse). (Read: Is Narrow Stairs the Saddest Death Cab for Cutie Album?) The new LP is the DCFC’s first to not feature longtime member Chris Walla. It’s also the first to include new members Dave Depper (Menomena, Ray Lamontagne) and Zac Rae (My Brightest Diamond, Fiona Apple), who have toured with the group since 2015. In an interview with DIY Mag, frontman Ben Gibbard talked about the connection between Thank You for Today and the indie outfit’s earlier releases: “If we were sitting here and this was not 2018 but 2025, if we had gone through six or seven producers and multiple collaborators, and we made a shit pile of a record, y’know, we’d probably be thinking that we should hang this up, it’s not working anymore. [But] I’m really happy with how this album’s turned out and I’m feeling fairly confident that there are a number of songs on this record which will remind people why they liked or loved the band in the first place. I feel like this record is more in tune with the spirit of the first four albums than the last two, or even three.” Thank You for Today was teased with early singles in “I Dreamt We Spoke Again” and “Gold Rush”. The album, which also comes on the heels of the 10th anniversary of DCFC’s Narrow Stairs, will be supported with a fall tour that kicks off in late September.
