  1. Jackmaster has admitted to sexually harassing staff at Love Saves The Day, a festival in the UK. After a Facebook post that apologised for his behaviour at the festival, rumours had started flying about what had actually happened (mainly that he pooped in a kettle). The actual situation as we found out, was much worse, with Jack Revill (Jackmaster) issuing a full honest statement. detailing what he actually did and which drug he was under the influence of (it was GHB). Subsequently he’s been dropped from the This Is In:Motion party in Bristol, Motion Bristol releasing a three part tweet detailing their reasons. Check out those tweets below and you can see full statements from Jackmaster and Love Saves The Day as well! 1/3 In light of recent events, news on Resident Advisor and as a mark of respect to those affected, Motion and Jackmaster have mutually agreed for Jack to not appear at our upcoming This Is In:Motion event. — Motion Bristol (@MotionBristol) August 17, 2018 2/3 As always, Motion operates a zero tolerance policy toward any behaviour of this kind. Should one of our customers or staff ever witness or become subject to sexual harassment we ask for you to speak to one of our trained members of staff who – — Motion Bristol (@MotionBristol) August 17, 2018 3/3 – will deal with the situation appropriately. If you would like some more information about our zero tolerance policy feel free to get in contact with us via FB or email. — Motion Bristol (@MotionBristol) August 17, 2018 Jack Revill: On Monday I posted in good faith apologising for my behaviour at Love Saves The Day festival. The responses online twisted the story, with distorted accounts becoming further twisted through follow up dialogues—in all directions, from both over-exaggerated to jokingly uninformed. The situation is no laughing matter, and the post was far from a means to paint myself in a positive manner. I was abusive and acted lewdly and inappropriately towards numerous members of staff at the festival—both female and male—during a drug-induced blackout, which I had put myself into after my performance by drinking a substance called GHB. GHB, and its variant GBL, is a drug that I have struggled with for some time and on the Saturday night of Love Saves The Day I relapsed, and rather than taking what could be considered a “regular” dose of GHB, I was seen to drink it directly from the bottle. During the ensuing blackout, my actions involved attempting to kiss and grab people against their will. I am truly disgusted and ashamed of myself, and I do not wish to use my substance abuse as an excuse for my actions. This type of behaviour should not be tolerated—and was completely out of character from me. I have let myself, staff at the festival and those closest to me down. Although I don’t recognise the person recounted to me, I alone take full responsibility for my actions and the effect on those involved. After meeting with those involved, staff, and other representatives of the Love Saves The Day team, my apologies were accepted by all parties. After discussing several steps forward, including me raising the idea of handing myself into the police with the intention of this being open, it was agreed that a public apology and an undertaking to never repeat the behaviour would be an acceptable conclusion, as none of the individual staff wished to pursue formal complaints to the authorities. Following this, we mutually agreed I would post Monday’s statement, but in retrospect it was too ambiguous. The timing of this discussion was delayed since late May in part due to a family bereavement and all those involved allowing me to grieve, which I would like to thank them for. It was also to give time to Love Saves The Day to fully investigate the complaints against me from their staff. I am attempting to address my personal issues head on, speaking to those involved personally, making changes to my lifestyle and working to ensure that others receive support. I will continue to work alongside the Love Saves The Day team on this matter. Out of respect to those involved in the above statement, I will not be returning to Bristol to perform for the duration of this year. I hope to be back next year. Love Saves The Day: Jack’s unacceptable behaviour at the event, towards our staff, could not be ignored, which is why we and representatives of our staff met with Jack, and he offered to issue a public apology, and together plant a marker in the sand that this sort of thing can and should not be tolerated in our industry. Given the reaction to the statement he put up on Monday, and the total misrepresentation of the facts and the issue we were trying to raise, it was important for him to clarify the situation and our staff appreciate he is trying to do this. Jack has committed to take steps to ensure he never repeats his behaviour in the future, and we all appreciate this, but this is not just about Jack, this is about the industry as a whole and making sure that any kind of behaviour like this is stamped out. None of our staff wish to pursue the matter any further and have accepted his apologies and support his undertaking to move forward from this in the right way. [Via: RA] Source
  2. Despite her best efforts, Nicki Minaj’s latest album, Queen, failed to supplant Travis Scott’s Astroworld as the No. 1 album in the country. Now, she’s blaming her second place finish on an unfair marketing campaign carried out by Scott, as well as a lack of promotional support from Spotify. It’s worth noting that Minaj herself made the controversial move of retroactively adding her XXXTentacion collaboration, “FEFE”, to the album in an effort to propel it to No. 1. However, in a series of tweets posted Sunday, she said the real crime was Scott’s “season pass” bundles for his upcoming Astroworld tour, which included a copy of his album. “Travis sold over 50K of these. With no requirement of redeeming the album! With no dates for a tour, etc,” Minaj tweeted. “I spoke to him. He knows he doesn’t have the #1 album this week.” “I put my blood sweat & tears in writing a dope album only for Travis Scott to have [his girlfriend] Kylie Jenner post a tour pass telling ppl to come see her & [their daughter] Stormi,” Minaj added. Minaj also took issue with Spotify, which she said failed to promote her album due to her relationship with Apple Music. “Spotify put Drake’s face on every playlist but told me they’d have to teach me a lesson for playing my music 10 mins early on #QueenRadio,” she wrote. “Even tho they’ve been giving away my music for free for years & I am one of the top Spotify artists of all time.” “Spotify had to teach me a lesson but rewarded the man who has had an Apple radio show the longest; inadvertently helping the Apple platform the most. Oh I can’t wait for #QueenRadio on Tuesday. They took away my promotion they had promised for the 1st cpl days b/c of this.” Read Minaj’s full tweet storm below, and listen to our review of Queen here. Travis sold over 50K of these. 3. Marilyn Manson collapsed on stage during his concert in Houston on Saturday night, as Ultimate Classic Rock points out. Early on in the set, Manson told the audience that he was suffering from “heat poisoning.” He managed to get through four songs before he ultimately collapsed mid-way through his performance of Eurthyrmics’ “Sweet Dreams”. The remainder of his set was canceled. Manson, who is currently touring with Rob Zombie on the “Twins of Evil: The Second Coming Tour”, previously missed a concert in Toronto “due to an unforeseen illness.” He also collapsed on stage during a show in 2017 — albeit as a result of much different circumstances. While performing in New York in September of that year, he accidentally pulled down a large stage prop. As a result of the incident, Manson needed 10 screws and a plate inserted into his leg, and another screw was placed through ankle bone. The “Twins of Evil: The Second Coming Tour” is scheduled to resume Monday night in Denver. Source
  4. Das Energi not only had a killer lineup this year, featuring deadmau5, Kaskade, Dillon Francis, Rezz and many more over the weekend — but they brought in the hottest rising act in EDM as a special guest. If you haven’t guessed already, or caught on by all the buzz on social media, we’re talking about 1788-L. The mysterious producer made his festival debut last night from the early hours into the sunrise, and he didn’t hold back one bit. Even through the videos below, we can feel the insane energy 1788-L was radiating and how well it was received by the crowd. Those who stumbled upon this secret set were treated to a new wave of music from the artist including his latest, “N U / V E R / K A.” Hopefully this means 1788-L will be infiltrating the festival circuit from here on out, because us Drones need more of this. Shoutout to Das Energi for bringing in a top notch special guest. 5. Ugh, it’s a sad, sad day. The newest member of deadmau5‘s family, Noob the cat, has sadly passed away. The little kitten has been in and out of the hospital since she was first brought home earlier this year and fans have been keeping up with her struggle on social media. Due to complications with her lower esophagus, she had a feeding tube surgically installed, but it seems as though it just didn’t take well. For the short time Noob spent in this world, her loving owners made her as happy and comfortable as possible. Send good vibes to deadmau5 his wife, Kelly Fedoni, and Meowingtons — this has gotta be tough. RIP, “little disaster.” It's done. Noob has left us to go to noobville to do noobish things. Despite the great shows these last couple weeks, we've had a terrible week :/ especially grill. Thank you all for your thoughts. We'll miss the little disaster. 6. Fashion icon and visionary Virgil Abloh is bringing us a unique journey through sound with this brand new, hour long mix featuring some of his favorite tracks, from DJ Koze to Cardi B and everything in between. The Off-White founder and Louis Vuitton Creative Director of Menswear can confidently add professional DJ to his long list of creative endeavors. When it comes to mixing, a huge factor is taste — and Virgil has plenty of it. His newly released Solid Steel Radio Show mix, recorded live in London, features classic grooves from the likes of Roy Davis Jr and Peven Everett, through UK club staples Joy Orbison and Pearson Sound, works in tracks from Travis Scott and Drake, and his own collaboration with Boys Noize, “Orvnge.” (Speaking of which, the entire Orvnge EP deserves a good listen.) “DJing in London is always a great time,” Virgil says. “…I like to create a contemporary dialogue with the audience but also root it in vast history of the many sub-genres that makes London super unique.” Check out the hour-long mix from the man right here. 7. After an entire year of silence, Dog Blood just posted on Instagram, which has Skrillex and Boys Noize fan bases in a frenzy hoping for new music from these electronic heavyweights. The last time the official account updated, it was a clip of the “Wild for the Night Remix” from their epic show at HARD Summer last August. Their set was easily one of the most talked about of the entire year and we’ve been begging for more ever since. The new post features a fan repping a Dog Blood tattoo proudly. The caption reads “4 Lyfe.” Subreddit r/skrillex was quick to jump on the share and spark up some discussion. Comment from discussion ShotsLotta’s comment from discussion "New Dog Blood tattoo post. (not sure whos it is tho)". Comment from discussion LynchMaleIdeal’s comment from discussion "New Dog Blood tattoo post. (not sure whos it is tho)". Both producers have been staying busy in studio working on various projects, but earlier this year they were spotted cooking up something together — which leads us to believe there is some forthcoming music between the two in the works. Could this tattoo mark the return of the duo? We sure hope so. 8. In the thick of a sticky, humid New York City summer, sometimes it just takes the right show at the right time to make you feel refreshed. With a storm threatening over the horizon but never quite arriving Friday evening, Queens’ remarkably intimate Forest Hills Stadium had just the right temperature for a perfect outdoor concert. And with Ben Folds and Cake taking the stage for their co-headlining tour, there was just the right amount of slightly nostalgic vibes for a feel-good break from the heat. Folds began his set solo, but was soon joined by openers Tall Heights by the end of “Annie Waits”. He also had his own band members, including a harmonica player in place of a bassist, bringing a unique and fun sound to hits like “Jesusland” and “Levi Johnston’s Blues”. Unfortunately, Cake were forced to end their set early (likely because of the threatening lightning creeping in from behind the stadium seating). Still, they managed to cram in a 12-song set that hit all the highlights (“Never There”, “The Distance”) and a nice surprise for the encore: a cover of Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs”. Photographer Ben Kaye was there to capture the night, and you can see his gallery below, followed by setlists for both acts. Follow him and Consequence of Sound on Instagram. 9. Cassette Tapes are putting themselves on the map, steadily gaining traction with an innovative sound revealed on singles like “Sugar Rush.” Now, the San Francisco based duo — consisting of Parker Livingston on production and Jackson Stokes on vocals —continue to hone their craft with the release of “Forgiveness.” Their latest single truly represents their multi-genre inspired sound, with an electronic bass-line, poly-rhythm synths, and pop-inspired horns, creating some smooth production for the R&B style vocals. The mix is simply intoxicating to hear and is bound to bring Cassette Tapes to new heights. More so, this is emblematic of the smooth, radio-friendly brand of music that they’ve so carefully fine-tuned throughout their nascent years on the scene. “Forgiveness” will be the first single off their debut EP Side A which drops September 2018. 10. This Saturday, August 18 the techno underground will be eclipsing with irony in the city of Essen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, at, wait for it a coal mine. The Zollverein coal mine industrial complex is a Goliath and has gone through many phases since it’s digging days. While the first mine on the premises was founded in 1847 they were grinding out fuel and adding shafts until 1986. For decades two parts of the site, the Zollverein coal mine, and the Zollverein coking plant ranked the largest of their kind in Europe. This spot was considered an architectural and technical masterpiece and it earned the reputation of the most beautiful coal mine in the world. In 2001 it was inscribed into the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. Now, this joint is going to get another hit of that oh-so-German innovation, only this time with sound. Telekom Electronic Beats and Düsseldorf-based promoters Baka Gaijin are joining forces again to throw another party on this beautiful architectural behemoth. The party will be featuring Ben UFO, Objekt, and Shanti Celeste. Despite these great names Baka Gaijin’s Alexis Fallis states, there is no need for big headliners, “because the venue is the headliner.” The UNESCO seems to agree. However, being on the list of World Heritage Sites does come with some responsibilities; mainly to maintain them. Regardless of how respectful party goers can be, upkeep of this site is imperative. “I think you can throw a maximum of three or four parties a year there,” said Fallias, “It’s a heritage site and they want to protect it.” Even if it’s only once or twice a year, a party hosting sounds that reflect the surroundings like the Zollverein and techno is not one to miss. 11. While patiently waiting for Chance the Rapper‘s upcoming album, fans need something to tide them over. Aside from starting in DJ Khaled‘s mass collaboration with Quavo and Justin Bieber, Chance also released four singles in sucession — just because. He brought Chicagoist and is set to star in a new movie, Slice, directed by his long-time collaborator Austin Vesely. Chance has also taken a feature spot in a new music video, “What’s the Hook,” for fellow Chicago rapper, Reeseynem. The upbeat, horn-driven track was produced by Nate Fox and Trap MoneyBenny. Reesey’s laid-back vocals set the tone for Chance to come in hard, and he does — there’s no way around it. This is a Chance verse for the books. Starting at 2:25, Chano picks up his words-per-minute and ends it with a WILD high note on “SLIIIIIIIIDE.” Reeseynem & Brooklyn Wheeler directed the block party music video, adding to the song’s authentic and independent vibe. 12. David Guetta is gracing radio stations across the world again, thanks to pop collaboration with Anne-Marie, “Don’t Leave Me Alone.” In true industry fashion, a variety of artists have tried their hand at remixing the track, including Lenny Kravitz, R3HAB, and Guetta himself. Sidney Samson is the latest to join this list with his club-ready twist of the original. Samson has all but entirely replaced the drop, with big room chords driving the bassline at a heightened BPM. Anne-Marie’s vocals still shine through, weaving in and out of the hectic drop to promote a danceable experience in any place it’s played in. Samson’s take on the track definitely gives the song a perfect spin for live performance, and there will be no surprises if Guetta decides to drop this version during his next set. Source
  13. Morgan Page has had a big 2018 thanks to the full release of his Born to Fly EP, in addition to singles and remixes sprinkled in between. One of his breakthrough singles, “The Longest Road,” turned ten years old as well . The track is still a hit worldwide. Now, the Vermont native is back with a new original release titled “Let You Go” on Armada, just weeks after his official remix for Flight Facilities‘ “All Your Love.” Strumming guitar chords lay the framework for pop vocals, and the drop features pulsing commercial house chords after the guitar builds to a breaking point. Page has always had the ability to create radio crossover releases without compromising the integrity of the electronic elements of the track, and “Let You Go” is certainly a continuation of this theme. 14. The Meadows Music and Arts Festival is taking a year off after a solid lineup in 2017 which featured Jay-Z, Gorillaz, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bassnectar and many more, at Citi Field in Queens, NYC. According to an official statement issued by Founders Entertainment, this isn’t the end for The Meadows, but rather a refocus on making the event the best it can be. The venue is a key factor, and everyone involved wants to make sure it’s just right. “After careful consideration, we have decided to take 2018 off and focus our efforts on returning in 2019,” The Meadows states. At least 14 people were injured when a metal structure collapsed prior to Backstreet Boys’ concert at WinStar World Casino and Resort in Thackerville, Oklahoma on Saturday, according to CBS News. Concert officials were evacuating the venue when high winds knocked over trusses at the entrance. All of the people injured were transported to a local hospital, CBS News reports. Backstreet Boys later canceled the concert. “We never want to put our fans in harm’s way and with tonight’s weather and injuries from earlier, we have decided to cancel the show and will attempt to reschedule,” the band tweeted. In its own statement, the WinStar World Casino and Resort said, “We know that fans often suffer through inclement weather for their favorite acts, but this was an unusual event and our thoughts are with those who were injured during this storm.” We never want to put our fans in harm's way and with tonight’s weather and the injuries from earlier, we have decided to cancel the show and will attempt to reschedule. 20. Apparently Drake hasn’t moved on from his beef with Kanye West — even if it’s entirely one-sided. While performing in Kanye’s hometown of Chicago on Saturday night, Drake altered the lyrics of his song “Know Yourself”. As opposed to rapping the original lyrics (“Then Kanye dropped, it was polos and backpacks)” Drake spit out the line, “Then Kanye flopped, it was polos and backpacks.” Watch footage below. yooo @IamAkademiks drake switch the lines in “Know Yourself” and said KANYE FLOPPED pic.twitter.com/dYKQzXGwVV — Ov3rrrrr (@Over_Random) August 18, 2018 Though Pusha-T was responsible for reigniting the beef after taking shots at Drake on his Kanye-produced LP, Daytona, Drake has since responded to both Pusha and Kanye with a pair of diss tracks, “Duppy Freestyle” and “Behind Barz”, while also making several references to Kanye on his latest album, Scorpion. For his part, Kanye has resisted entering the fray, saying, “I’m about love.” Source
  21. Pearl Jam were joined by a Chicago legend during their concert at Wrigley Field on Saturday night. Dennis Rodman, former NBA superstar turned America’s de facto ambassador to North Korea, appeared on stage to give frontman Eddie Vedder a ukulele prior to his encore performance of “Sleeping By Myself”. Rodman also briefly took the mic to express his admiration for the Windy City. “There are two groups of people who have always supported me — North Korea and Chicago.” I guess that’s a compliment? In an interview last year, he credited the band’s music for saving his life. “I went and got that album [Ten] and I would played it every day. For some reason, [“Black”] was on, I think that saved my life,” Rodman explained. Earlier this year, while in Singapore for Donald Trump’s North Korea Summit, Rodman publicly thanked Vedder on national television. Source
  22. It’s been over three years since Noisia and Two Fingers, aka Amon Tobin, last collaborated. The track, “Salah,” came out on Two Fingers’ EP Six Rhythms on Noisia’s Division Records. Now, the two have teamed up again for the wild and crazy “Dzjengis.” The genre of “Dzjengis” is about as undefinable as its name is unpronounceable. Even Noisia’s own Thys isn’t sure what to call it. I think we just released a techno tune.. Wouldn't know what else to call Dzjengis.. It was definitely inspired by music from people who move around the techno spectrum.. Not that genre matters, but I'm happy we're in a position to release a 130 bpm tune with no real snare — Thys (@ThysNoisia) August 15, 2018 However, as Thys mentions, at the end of the day, it’s all about how the tune makes you feel and move, and this one is making us feel some type of way. 24. This week, techno and house DJ Jackmaster issued an apology for inappropriate behavior while playing Britstol music festival Love Saves the Day. The apology itself was vague, and comments and rumors (including that the DJ took a sh*t in a tea kettle) made light of the situation. Jackmaster, along with an unnamed Love Saves the Day staff member and the festival itself, have now issued joint statements describing the incident. Jackmaster admitted to “attempting to grab, kiss people against their will” while playing the festival. He said he took a dose of GHB, a drug known for inducing blackouts, and acted inappropriately to several festival staff members. An unnamed Love Saves the Day staff member detailed her experience, saying Jackmaster’s behavior “crossed the boundaries of acceptability.” The staff member also described a follow-up meeting between herself, Jackmaster and other staff from the festival. During the meeting, Jackmaster apologized for his behavior, even offering to turn himself in to the police. The meeting concluded with an agreement that Jackmaster would issue a public apology. Love Saves the Day clarified the situation with its own statement, saying Jackmaster’s original, vague apology caused rumors to muddle the reason for the apology. The festival and Jackmaster agreed to issue follow-up statements to fully explain the extent of the DJ’s behavior. We’re curious how this incident affects Jackmaster’s career moving forward. Jackmaster has pledged to deal with his substance abuse issues, and announced he would play no more events in Bristol for the rest of the year. Nightclub Motion Bristol announced it and Jackmaster mutually agreed to cut the DJ from an upcoming This Is In:Motion event. 1/3 In light of recent events, news on Resident Advisor and as a mark of respect to those affected, Motion and Jackmaster have mutually agreed for Jack to not appear at our upcoming This Is In:Motion event. — Motion Bristol (@MotionBristol) August 17, 2018 Read the full statements from the Love Saves the Day staff member, the festival and Jackmaster below: Unnamed Love Saves the Day staff member: Although I wish to remain anonymous, I was one of the female members of staff who was a recipient of Jack’s actions on the night of Love Saves The Day. Jack’s behaviour on the night towards me crossed the boundaries of acceptability, regardless of the fact he was clearly off his head. What made the matter worse is that it happened in front of so many people, and so many witnesses, and it took far too long for anybody to step in and try to take control of Jack or intervene in the slightest. People just stood by like it was OK behaviour. Myself and other staff that he hurt, offended and upset on the night spoke with the festival management and decided that the incidents had to be addressed and not ignored. Jack agreed to meet directly with all the staff his actions had affected on the night to offer his apologies. In that meeting, I was able to directly address Jack to tell him how humiliated and upset his behaviour made me feel and the fact it’s something that hasn’t left my mind since it happened. The meeting environment was quite intense; I was afraid to see him again even though he had reached out to me before the face-to-face to offer his apology. There was an agenda, but before we had started, he had said that he would do whatever it takes to make us all feel better. If we wanted him to go hand himself into the police right now, he would do it, offer a public apology, whatever it took to make us all feel better again. I could see and feel he was completely sincere in what he was saying. He said he was disgusted by his own behaviour and that this had been the catalyst for him making real changes to his life. At the end of the meeting, we all agreed with Jack that a public apology might help prevent this type of behaviour happening again anywhere in the industry and encourage people to step in quicker to stop it. Everyone has a responsibility to intervene when they see something like that happening, and if they don’t feel they can step in, they should go and get help. That the response to his post on Monday was quite sickening, in that it was hijacked by untruths and lad humour—perhaps this is systematic of UK culture at the moment—is why it is so important for Jack to clarify what happened. Jackmaster: On Monday I posted in good faith apologising for my behaviour at Love Saves The Day festival.
