Burning songs to disc...WAV? MP3 320Kpbs? etc
tubby replied to AndyTraxx's topic in Beginner DJ Tips & Tricks
depends to some extent on the track, what kind of sounds it has, and how well it is encoded. You can still get wav's that sound crap. as a general rule though, a 192 would not be great on a large system. 256 if you must, 320 is fine. -

I usually by wav's. download quotas aren't really a concern, we're talking a difference of 50mb a track over an mp3, out of what? 10? 30, 50 Gb allowance. the extra dollar beatport charges can add up though, and the time it takes to download if you are in a hurry. and in a club no-one will notice. they aren't high fidelity systems to start with, and when you add in people, noise, average accoustics, noone will notice the small difference between wav and 320 mp3. -
cdj800 mk2 plus USB input and a wave display. about the only things I miss on my 800's so seems like a good upgrade to me. misses the link so one drive between decks but that's just sokmething to differentiate the product line

I split into prog house vs trance, then within that I have one folder per year. That is, the year I buy the track, not the year it was released, it sits better in my mind so I can find them. I setup the folders within traktor in the same structure as the directories oh the disk. Only have a 320Gb drive, and that also has backups of my non-djing music (ripped as flac) so space isn't a major concern

I always burn as audio cd's sure 90% of decks these days will play mp3's but it's painful to navigate menus and there's always the chance of a cdj1000mk2 or the like that won't play them at all. No idea why you would downgrade the quality of your music even slighlty. Especially when you are then burning in cda/wav format, so not like you are saving space by converting to mp3. -
if you are really tight for money, some sites offer genre bundles that are a bit cheaper. but then you get at least half being trakcs you wouldn't buy just go to beatport or the like and fork out $1.49 a track. 10 tracks won't cost much and you'll have enough whilst you try and figure out basic mixing. Add a handful a week or a month and build your collection without breaking the bank

Pioneer CDJ1000's - which is better, Vinal Mode or CDJ Mode?
tubby replied to AndyTraxx's topic in Beginner DJ Tips & Tricks
never turned off vinyl mode. you can still launch a track with the play button (useful if the beat is right on the first frame of the track), still use the side platter for pitch bending. The only things cdj mode offers is stutter cueing and the extra safety in case you hit the top platter, it doesn't stop like in vinyl mode. -
Master tempo keeps track key the same regardless of pitch. Doesn't let you mess with it, just keeps same key as if at 0% cue whilst paused sets new cue point, cue whilstnplayimg goes to lastbset cue. Platter never spins. In vinyl mode the top platter acts like a tt, side platter does pitch bends. Never used auto cue, I always set them manually. It's pretty easy to figure them out but s basic YouTube might be an idea before you get to the gig

Djx is cheap cos it is built to break. Xone 22 is a good starting point or numark dxm06. Vestax pcv175 or the older 275.

we could have gone all shaun of the dead on someone. or a thousand someones.

better to overspec the amp. a low powered amp trying too hard to power speakers will clip a lot, and that is very bad for the speakers.
-
luck of the draw I guess, being close by and away from a big city (and competition for it). would have been fun to get case of beer and just work through the tunes lisenming to what you got
-
put on ebay for $2-3 each, happy hardcore, whilst often barely qualifying as music, still seems to sell there. and you get a free mini-bat signed by ian botham
-
yep, so it stays oipen until then, but then will keep extending forever as long as a bid comes in within 10 or maybe 15 minutes of the last one
-
also note the way grays works is a little differetnt to ebay. It doesn't finish at a fixed time, it's more like a normal auction, keeps going until people stop bidding
-
That buyers premium means whatever your winning bid is you pay that plus another 15%. I think that is grays cut. Can make a bargain actually not so great
-
but the sound improvement from the rb250 is supposed to be worth it
-
where does you find the time to make use of 180Gb a month of whatever you downloaded?
-
part of your setup process is to try increasing latency until you don't get the pops. basically lower latency is more work for your computer and if too low the computer cannot keep up, and you get pops. if you just installed you probably had v1.01 which had bucketloads of pretty basic issues, so upgrading (1.2.6 i think is current) would have helped a lot
-
what version of traktor? early releases suffered from this more as they were far harder on the processor. What else do you have running? try to switch everything off that you odn't need running to prevent drop outs
-
amazing how many ppl break their hdj1000's on the swivels. I still have the model before that (SEDJ5000) and they've lasted 8 years with no issiues other than the foam wearing. i actually bouught 2 pairs at the same time, so won't be upgrading for a while
-
what do you have that you are upgrading? and will $300 get you the improvement you are after?
-
i think the correct approach at the moment is to grabe a vuvuzela and make a far more annoying noise than the galloping beats of a bad mix.
-
any decent road case is going to be pretty heavy, shipping probably won't be cheap

djx750 to djm2000 must be one of the largest updates anyone has ever made in one go.
