HarryCoates Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Hi Everyone. I am new here, so excuse me if this is the inappropriate thread for this question. I had a browse around and couldn't see anywhere relevant to post questions relevant to promoting ect. Is there anyone out there that can give me some advice as to how they go about setting up an event in a warehouse, or space that is not typically zoned or licensed and what the legal loop holes may be for doing events in places that are not typically a nightclub / Pub. Maybe PM me if u feel this would be better discussed privately ? Currently well and truly sick of compromising how we do things to fit in with venues views of how things should be run and what music is acceptable ect. The venue will have its own Public Liability in place due to its daily activities, will this however be void if we do a party there?I have a possible location I want to use, on a semi regular basis and I am wondering how people/promoters go about this in Sydney or other states in Australia. DO you just pray that the cops don't drop by? Or do you change the "Consent" with council for the venue for the day? or do u just live dangerously? How do you deal with alcohol consumption? BYO or purchase a day licence for sale of grog for the duration of the event?cheers, any advice would be great. thanks Harry Quote
CapFive Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 this is a very touchy subject... what you need to worry about is RSA licences and the likes, you might need security, and you will need to know how many people the venue can hold, If its going to be a regular thing then you will probably need to get permission, where is the warehouse located? is it in a commercial area?It could be worth letting the cops know if its just going to be a one time thing or even ask them what to do in this situation, if you want to do it right then you should always ask the council or law enforcement, they are only there to help and if you aren't doing anything dodgy then they will let you know the legal way to do it. mattus123 Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 I remember reading somewhere that if you charge entry to the venue u will be responsible if anything happens (ie u will need insurance). I remember when we had our annual st party the council were saying we would need 1mil insurance to block off the street incase anything happened, as we would be responsible. So that sort of thing would be worth consideringApart from that the authorities would probably be the best to speak to about this, but I would t be surprised if they tell u to get fucked whether you actually can or can't do it Quote
GREMM1S Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 It depends on whether its a full on primarily strangers event or more a gathering of friends. One guy used to throw massive parties and charge everyone 5 bucks, we used to get a big setup and djs etc all booze provided. Quote
Kodiak Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Does the venue's regular form of business involve having 100's of drunk whales in its premises at all hours of the night? If not, then their existing insurance will not cover this. Quote
