ethanmansfield Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 so fellas, i have recently made the jump from bedroom to parties and one of my mates joins me to form a duo i suppose, there is a underage gig coming up requesting dj's who want a chance to dj to submit an R&B mixtape, my partner wants to pounce on this opportunity and i do to i guess because i could make friends with some of the crew in this club problem is the last time i listened to a full length R&B track was in grade 6( 6 years ago) so im really not in the loop of R&B is there any tips for pulling this off and is there any R&B dj's who can list a few tracks that would really be good for an underage audience. thanks Quote
eggssell Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 haha insert tumbleweed.jpgskank plays a bit of r&b in commercial-ish nightclubs but he don't come round here much.wazza can smash an r&b mix but he an old-timer. like me. the last time I was into an r&b scene it was new jack swing! and it will be back damn you!!!!! (I did frequent fat @ gas ten years ago too but that wont be of any help)anyways my suggestion is just look at the top 40. also the amount of internet hate usually equals popularity, while not really knowing many of these artists tracks (except yeezy) here are some people who the internets hateniki minajpitbulllmfaokanyedrakeririmileytimberlake Quote
eggssell Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 oh shit wait I do listen to some r&bfrank ocean is the man.also The Internet (which is down tempo shiz, so maybe not applicable)and I have been digging jhene aiko of the TDE campand earlier this year producer Adrian younge did an album with the delfonics which was awesomebut not sure if they are popular with the young teenys out there Quote
Cupe Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 Is it ONLY R&B or can you include hiphop too? Quote
ethanmansfield Posted November 28, 2013 Author Posted November 28, 2013 thanks eggssell that is a helpful starting point i think you are on the money with some of those artists. and i think im aloud to put some hip hop in aswell but nothing to underground i suppose, basically i want to give abit of a house taste into the mixtape and see what they think but keep it centered around mainstream R&B, hip hop is something i have alot of respect for but is a whole other dimension away in terms of my knowledge for it. Mitch Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 as has already been mentioned, if you want commercial sort of stuff, aria charts site will help you out. Quote
