Getting noticed and followers on Soundcloud

That Party Guy's Basic Guide

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

This a guide to help you get started and on your feet. somethings will work for you and some may not, either way, these are good to remember when uploading your next track / mix

That Basics:

Your profile:

Add information in the Description / About you section that informs people about you and your music.

things like, Residencies, Genre's you play and/or produce, a little about who you are and where you are from.

Avoid trying to talk yourself up like you're gods gift to music and keep it simple.

If you want to be taken seriously or somewhat seriously, don't upload profile pictures that have nothing to do with you or your music (example: a fully sick holden with chevy badge as profile picture).

Your music:

When uploading a track, try cutting it down to a smaller version with the "best bits" still in it.

some call these a "sample". for me these help engage with an audiance with a limited attention span. the quicker you can shove your song in there ears the better. so cut out the 1 minute intro that is just a mix in and leave the awesome drop aka "best bits".

include download links, how you go about this is up to you.

You could just planing allow downloads of your track, but the free soundcloud account limits you to 100 downloads per track. another way is to upload to a file hosting site such as dropbox. A new trend is "a follow for a download", where you directed to a site that has the download link to a track but requires you to follow the artist on soundcloud (or another social media site). Personally i would avoid doing this, i think its cheating but its up to you.

Getting Out There

Soundcloud Groups:

Soundcloud groups can be amazing for getting your tracks noticed and shared. there are a large range of groups on Soundcloud to share your track to, keep in mind that you should only share your track in the appropriate group/s.

Search for groups that are to do with the type of genre's you music is (deep house, minimal, bounce, electro house etc..) as well as searching for groups that deal with solely remixes, mashups, mixes, originals etc..

some groups also have websites and other ways to submit, so keep a look out in their description.

Social media:

Post to facebook pages and join facebook groups that deal in the type of music you are wanting to share. one thing that will quickly piss people off is you spamming them, so keep it simple and ask for feedback. most groups are fine to give feedback. Keep in mind some groups have members that are in different time zones and will not see your music at the same time... if at all.

What to avoid

- Avoid using "like 4 like" and pay for followers sites, you are just cheating yourself. 10,000 fake followers aren't going to share your music, rock up to see you or even listen to anything you make or do.

- Don't spam places mentioned in this guide. that's just being an annoying dick

- Keep in touch with followers and people who comment on your stuff. it helps you look active and might just give you opportunities to group, share or have your tracks played out in the real world (Clubs, radio etc..)

- Attitude, it can all depend on it. if you aren't willing to put in the work (the little there is), you wont see the fruits of your labor.
