  1. forgot to say last night, i dont think it makes a dif if rental or not. Rental business is still just some blokes business so to him the gear is what we would call personal.
  2. nothing to be embarrassed about bro, if you can mix like that on an idj3 you're in the right game mate
  3. ^me? nah blud... ...it was still a wedding so after memory lane it was time for bon jovi and bryan adams to bring all the age groups back for a sing-a-long finale
  4. hey gelo, i listened your mix too. like it, swift sharp fades, and mostly tight syncing. Loving that tempo jump on the last cut mate and good cross of genres. what kit do you use?
  5. agreed and good q. I have left gear overnight regularly in trusted venues. It never happened but I reckon I wouldnt have minded someone pro using it who would look after it. Now i'm older and have mouths to feed I would be thinking of wear and tear and a hire fee though. On the other hand: I have used kit i found lieing around in booths without asking whose it was but I've never opened a closed box, guess thats where i draw the line.
  6. ^nice 1 sol. I just had a good wedding too. they requested a few old rave tracks and we spent an hour on memory lane. They even went for this bomb:
  7. ez mann.... do you take P.A. and lights and do the whole set up and pack down? If you do it doesnt really matter how long the gig is coz the work is in moving all the kit in and out. and do you do any pre gig communication about playlists/music they want? The more prepared you are the better service you can supply and the more you can charge. I'm in uk but get a min of £200 per gig if doing all the above, ($313 Oz dolla according to google). The gear I take is actually my agents and he charges £300 to the punter to cover kit hire, insurances, licenses and pre gig comms. If the venue has P.A. and Lights I will cut my fee in half but only if they ask Worth remembering uk livin costs in general are higher than Oz so my fee is not entirely comparable even after applying exchange rate.
  8. CHEV... chk what postage and packing requirements it would take for me to send you vinyl from the U.K.... if it looks like a go-er then make me an offer for any or all of the following... The bit in brackets is what i've been able to make out from the catalogue inscription on the vinyl itself if you want to research cat numbers. re-rewind radio edit 12" with mixes by grant nelson & sharp boys (relent 1T/B) a little bit of luck- dj luck and mc neat (rrose 001) bad funk - antonio (locked on records - locked 014) Hype the joint compilation Vol 1 (frshlp11) 3*dj friendly vinyl Sound centre EP - future primitives (TS-001) DJ south central - freestyle (vic-9) KIss 100FM presents Garage City compilation 3*dj friendly vinyl creative garage compilation (zip LP 002) If you want any more info on what condition or what tracks is on any of these just let me know. Cant be bothered researching or posting until I know postage costs make this an option for ya bro.
  9. I agree with the above, eyes on the prize. But if you really have to add salt to your high salt content big mac: Korg FTW.
  10. ^edit: just got a mail from serato inviting me to donwload 2.0. have a gig tonight so no way I am upgrading without time to test stability. Will prob do sunday when sober. any news wazza or jarred? how is it for you, what hardware you use it with?
  11. Wazza, Jarred, Sophresh: I thought it was still just a public beta? Any bugs? What's the word? lol @eggs: I got so spiritual last night I spent 3 days in a field!
  12. You still going to the party to DJ tho rite?
  13. personally i dont think the 2000s are. they dont feel as well built as 1000s. I didnt even think 1000MKIII felt as well built as MKIIs At the end of the day the definition of "industry standard" is simply " the one most people in the industry use" so until all the old 1000s in clubs breakdown it is unlikely that anything will take their position. Travelling DJs and big acts such as guetta and tiesto will be touring with the new gear coz pioneer supply them for promo purposes. Normal clubs just want something reliable that doesnt need replacing.

    G'day

  15. yeah 1000s became industry standard over technics in the mid/late 90's. The reason isnt so much about what they do as how well they are built. Club owners just want units that wont break down. It's also coz they are so well built that many clubs havent needed to replace them with the new units such as the 2000 or 900 yet. Thats why the 1000 ares till v common in clubs.
  16. jeebus caps, you guys def got your hands full. I reckon there is s steep learning curve this weekend. my recommendation to you is: stay behind the dex, let the party host do the learning
  17. ^ wow, mdex sux ey? i feel i'm covering old ground now too so i gonna shut up now
  18. ^lol, i wasnt going to say anything but this is the guy with the aircraft hangar isnt it? you know what they say about the rich: they didnt get that way by being nice to people. then again, it does depend what you get for your money, the gent could be the nicest man on the planet, i would expect an interesting bag of goodies and free grog at least
  19. law sounds pretty similar to in the uk. You cant sell tickets for private. if its not private (i.e. it's making money) it needs license and you must pay tax on the income etc. You can ask for people to give "gifts" at any party. but if he's been selling tickets already and distributing advertising then he's fucked it. Next time do it on the D.L. and just ask everyone to donate a "gift" of $50. This time you better hope the filth have a busy night coz if there's nothing better to do they'll be on you searching for contraband etc.
  20. cheers man, yer, lots of djs say i "put in effort" but thats basically my way of passing the time, but it works both ways: keeps me awake and makes the party better TBH the mixing is rubbish, so is the scratching. But the vibe in the room worked and that is what matters. I think a lot of djs worry about how a recording will sound on the millionth listen when you are looking out for the mistakes you already know are there. but IRL in the atmposphere of a party - it works so what's to worry about?
  21. Below I've posted a live set I recorded at a wedding. I was doing the usual wedding stuff in my own style when they started requesting hiphop, dnb and stuff. I pressed record then used a few tunes to steer the music towards the requests they had made. There are errors and the mix is scruffy coz I was right there in the room and still talking to the people to find out what requests they wanted next...noone notices these sort of small errors live if the atmosphere is good... I add the scratching to keep people on their toes, in my experience it helps them think they have a "real" dj at work even if it is sloppy, lets face it, at the average wedding the punters are all ruined and anyone who does know how to dj will often step up like aa ITM WHALE to diss you for doing mobile gigs.. so they dont matter anyway. Basically I thought this an ok example of how a mix dj can change genre while keeping a flow and taking requests. I also hope it encourages some DJs to make a bit of effort at mobile events...anyone can press play on itunes, only a dj can react to the room. After this it all went bon jovi and sing-a-long but the night worked overall. Jim random jam nu fader 2 by more foolish

    Whoa, a forum

  23. ...or you could just find your itunes library folder and search that, or make seperate folders on your hard drive for seperate genres then search in those. it isnt too much hard work but you should get much more control and better sound quality by playing your tracks via usb than mini jack to rca. just try this as a test: copy one music file to your desktop, attach mac via the usb to the mdex, use the mdex browser to find the tune on your desktop, see if it works via the mdex controls. JTTH
  24. Great post again Sol, its great to see how you're actually working... I just googled those Mdex things... has it been mentioned on the forum before that they should read an external hardrive? Cant you set your mac to be read directly via the Mdex and play the audio through a USB instead of using itunes and a line in? If this works you would get much more control... or am i going over old ground?
