  1. ez gandy, i'm getting to this mate, got my hands a little full at the moment but have downloaded
  2. steady as she goes mate, didnt listen to it all but scanned thru.. a couple of the accapellas come in a bit out of time but i guess you had your hands full, sounds like you're mid mix and triggering samples which def takes practise...esp ce ce peniston and i want you back. couple of volume drops too eg when music sounds better/thriller comes in. overall it makes something new out of something old. If i listened to the recording over and over the slight errors would stick out but it would prob work live for the right crowd. +rep for originality and having a go from me.
  3. word is they are ok, i have gone that route for mobile work but got the numark NS6 not the pioneer units, I still use cdjs for big gigs. You say you prefer cdjs/TTS so i think you're mind is clear... but if you have a shop local to you maybe try get a hands on trial to be certain before deciding.
  4. option1: if the sit in dj has other gigs coming up maybe sit in on one of those, do the booked gig this sat and get paid twice. option 2: if there is an unavoidable clash go with jaz, cancel the client that changed night. If you go with him now he may think he can do that forever and so is not a good client. If you dont he may realise you are too professional to fuck around and treat you with more respect. option 3: Sat night fees are generally higher, ask the client who moved date to up your fee accordingly. If he goes with it and the sit-in guy doesnt mind take the extra money. BUT consider this: the guy asking you to sit in is also hiring your speakers? if you have to let him down because of your client is he going to book you again?
  5. dope shizzle wazza, be nice to be able to tickle that too ey?
  6. aha, ok so it was all about remodelling the syncing engine. I wouldnt have noticed that and it is irrelevant to me but worth mentioning if you're into that kind of thing.
  7. thats all good for mobiles mate, nice 1. some more: -whether you are mobile or not always try and take the time to get out from behind the decks occasionally and listen to the sound the crowd are hearing. Booth monitors and headphone mixing can help you beatmatch but can totally mislead you about the sound quality the dancefloor is actually getting. -If you are going to scratch vox or sample hits/stabs over a tune that is playing roll of some of the bass on the scratch sample. It will allow the speakers to handle the output without trying to reproduce unneeded frequencies. Unless you're scratching a bass sample of course. ( this applies to all scratching but especially to vinyl djs who may hear the "bump" of their fingers hitting the vinyl). - if there are security available be friendly and set up a signal which they will recognise means you need help immediatley. I let them know that silence from the decks for more than a musical pause of 4 beats means I need help, either electrical fault or nobhead in the booth.
  8. ^not that i know. do you know serato has it's own forum for tech q's like that? http://serato.com/forum they arent as friendly or forgiving as ADJF users so word your q well mate.
  9. ez mitch, dont know about the HD202mk2 sorry. i have used hd202 lots in the past but now use the akg due to sound quality and better build quality, worth the extra IMO.
  10. Post anything useful/simple that you may take for granted and that works for you but might not have come up anywhere else or may be buried amongst derailed threads: eg: When setting up: gaffa tape power extensions to the underside of tables so no spilt drinks can affect them. Never update software before a gig. Do updates early in the week and have time to properly test them for bugs before your next gig. If you have updated DJ software you may need to let it re-analyse your music library, be sure you leave time to do this before your next gig. Songs with a BPM that is half or twice another songs' BPM will mix together for genre transitions: i.e. 90bpm will mix with 180BPM, (hip hop to drum n bass) 70 BPM will mix with 140BPM (RnB to bassline/dubstep).
  11. I have used the following: they aren't great, wont swivel but will sound ok on bus etc, pack flat and are cheap. Much better than the hd 201 if you had to use them as back up dj phones at a gig for not much more dolla. Sennheiser HD202 Pro Headphones The HD 202 closed, dynamic hi-fi stereo headphones are the ideal partner for DJs and... $35.00 ----------------------------------- these are much better, will def work as back up phones for gigs, sound much better on bus, pack flat and folded + swivel cups, but are just over you're budget? AKG K81DJ Headphones Semiprofessional DJs need dependable equipment. The K 81 DJ fit their bill perfectly. Their closed-back... $109.00 details pasted from your storedj website
  12. yer man, you'll get nothing more than a glorified media player until you plug in hardware. That screen is for prepping playlists, setting cue points etc in preperation. You might be able to stop it replaying each song tho: see the little "?" top right of the screen? That enables tool tips - i.e. with that on whenever you hover the mouse arrow over anything with a function it will show you what the function is. Highlight it and hover around the transport controls in the mini player. I think one of them sets autoplay/repeat options. Or you need a keyboard command but the tool tips will show all these when you hover over controls too.
  13. ^start with an attention grabber: either a big hitter or a show of skill. be sure you show all the skills you have over the course of the mix, but not at the expense of the overall feel. rem the promoter gets up to 5 of these a day and doesn't have time to listen to them all so you gotta stand out. rem you are looking for work so play what the venue you want to work in will want to hear.
  14. Just to add: "Urban" in U.K. includes some bassline tracks. Not the heavy bass wobblers but "niche" garage like: these are also great tracks to use to bridge between the rnb 70-80bpm grooves back up to 130/140 EDM.
  15. Tomy is bang on and covers everything well IMO. and Caps is right about the length of your mixtape too. You got the gold now Gelo, Good luck.
  16. poor cap, but as the japanese say: every crisis is also an opportunity. Perhaps refreshing your collection will help you in the long run. RIP caps collection.
  17. ^i upgraded this eve, had to upgrade firmware for the hardware at the same time. Just done an hour set, recording, using everything. It was steady. I will post any crash or issue news here if it happens as 1 hour not a fair test. features wise: not too sure the new viewing options offer that much as you just get 4 layouts to choose from and cant modify them. I do like being able to change font size and I have found a view that removes all the beat indicator rubbish and just shows me a waveform for the whole track so I guess it is an improvement. really hoped they were adding a way for me to read input levels from decks as I so far only have a master ouptut level. They didnt was looking forward to the sampler but now discover I can only control it by my laptop keyboard! there was a specific bug on my hardware that seems to have been fixed but only time will tell... I do like that they leave you with the old version so rollback is V easy. it's an update, not an upgrade really. i dont get why all the "game-changer" hype on their website.

    Hey

    ez
  19. ministry of sound do an anthems series which has rnb parts 1 + 2, they will cover most requests you'll get and give you the ammo to do an hour or so set when you need to. http://www.ministryofsound.com/shop/pro ... ems-randb/ if you like it and wanna go deeper see eggs^.
  20. you'll pay a bit more in total but will have something to play on str8 away. just thinking out loud but happy to help mate.
  21. i have insurance too, dont you? if kit gets wrecked you still cant use it until insurance pays out and that means lost work/gigs and lost rep. Like I said: good q, got me pondering too... for me it wouldnt matter what it said on the box, i wouldnt open it, but it also wouldnt matter what it said on a piece of kit that wasnt in a box - i would use it p.s. nice rig in the avatar skank.
  22. look professional? i think he means look like a top bloke not just another wannabe with a mixtape in his pocket. promoters get lots of these so pal up before even letting them know what you're after.... I started my own events on midweek nights at venues. The venues were quiet/had nothing on, I would dj for free and get all my mates to come to buy drinks. got noticed that way and paid gigs followed. learnt a bit about promo doing it a bit myself too.
  23. If you are starting from scratch why not go for ableton intro for now, you can get used to it while you save up to upgrade to 8?
  24. caps mate, been thinking about this since chat last night/avo... Cant believe that other bloke hasnt posted the info we were talking about but has anyone else heard of or used "tune up" or any other software that can alledgedly name bulk batches of songs after they've lost id3 tags following data recovery? you can still try data recovery on the failed HDD yes? I dont mean the one your bro formatted. i also agree that chasing online retailers for records or poss extra downloads is worth doing.
  25. ^suite is good when you're used to ableton but you wont need it to get going and can always add it later. suite is extra samples and loops but also some instruments and effects which are pretty cool. Thing is there is plenty on the standard ableton for you to get to know how it works. Rem this: ableton earnt their rep for version 4/5 and the current basic 8 has more than either of them already. IMO: pay for the regular ableton, you may discover you prefer to record/source your own samples and use vst plugins anyway.
