  1. Disturbed recently announced that their seventh album, Evolution, will arrive on October 19th, and in a new interview, frontman David Draiman is setting the bar high for the disc. In fact, he calls the upcoming effort the band’s “Black Album”, referring to Metallica‘s iconic self-titled 1991 release. “The Black Album” launched Metallica from metal favorites to mainstream superstars, and has since gone on to become the highest-selling disc of the SoundScan era, still moving thousands of copies each week. Disturbed have achieved quite a lot of success themselves over the past two decades, but Draiman told Metal Hammer magazine of Evolution, “If I died after this record came out, and this was the end of our legacy, I’d be OK with that. To me, this is our ‘Black Album’.” He went on to say, “We’ve always used that as a goal — the record that literally every single track on it could be a hit. A record that breaks doors down, that opens up new opportunities to us, that helps you achieve true immortality as an artist.” As previously reported, Disturbed unleashed the single “Are You Ready” along with announcing their Evolution album. Pre-orders for the disc are available here. Metallica’s Top 5 Songs Tool’s Top 5 Music Videos Behemoth's Top 5 Songs Alice in Chains' Top 5 Videos Pearl Jam’s “Jeremy” Annotated Video Source
  2. Los Angeles dream pop songwriter Lorely Rodriguez will soon return with a new album under her Empress Of moniker. Entitled Us, the release is due out October 19th through Terrible Records, the label co-founded by Grizzly Bear’s Chris Taylor. Rodriguez’s second LP to date, Us follows her 2015 debut, Me. According to a press statement, the 10-track effort was recorded all over Southern California, from Topanga Canyon to her home in Highland Park to a studio inhabited by a talkative cricket. She was joined along the way by collaborators in Blood Orange’s Dev Hynes, production duo DJDS, and Spanish producer Pional. For Rodriguez, it was the first time she’d locked into that kind of sequestered recording approach. However, despite the isolation, the musician says Us — as its title implies — is meant to be far more of a communal experience than its predecessor. “It’s not just love songs,” Rodriguez explained in a statement. “It’s about different experiences of the heart. I want it to be like a mirror, and [the audience] sees a little bit of themselves in every song.” As a first look at the full-length, Rodriguez has shared the lead single, “When I’m With Him”. Check it out below via its self-directed video, intended to be “a love letter to East Los Angeles.” Us Artwork: Us Tracklist: 01. Everything To Me 02. Just The Same 03. Trust Me Baby 04. 3. Crazy Rich Asians is both a critical and commercial hit, having raked in $35.3 million across its five-day opening weekend. So color no one surprised that a sequel is already in the works. Deadline reports that, though it has yet to be officially greenlit, a follow-up is already in development with the original film’s producers and screenwriters. The plan is to adapt stories from the next books in author Kevin Kwan’s Crazy Rich Asians trilogy, China Rich Girlfriend and Rich People Problems. Director Jon M, Chu is also hoping to return, though he’s currently at work on an adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s first musical, In the Heights, which is slated for a summer 2020 release. He’d likely get back behind the Asians cameras once that production wraps. You can also expect stars Constance Wu, Henry Golding, and Michelle Yeoh back, who all have contractual options for the sequel. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the sequel would follow a number of different threads, including a trip to China for Nick (Henry Golding) and Rachel (Constance Wu), who is in search of her father, as well as new love stories for Astrid (Gemma Chan) and Kitty Pong (Fiona Xie). More details as they come. Source
  4. Untold Music Festival took place on August 2nd-5th and it was absolutely a weekend to remember. DJ Mag was able to successfully stream multiple performances such as ones from Tiesto, Afrojack, and KSHMR. Of course these are worth watching, but the set that took the cake was the 7 hour set from none other than Trance legend Armin van Buuren. Armin closed out the festival with a set that started at 2 a.m. and finished at the crack of dawn at 9 a.m. He’s broken his previous record last year when he played for a whopping 5 hours. Now, you can relive that incredible performance by watching his full set on Youtube. It doesn’t get much better than that. Armin says: “‘I can’t thank you guys enough for making this possible, lots of love to Romania! Hope you will relive my full seven-hour DJ set at Untold to the fullest”. 5. The huge rave that will take place in an 1,000 year-old castle on Spain’s Andalusian coast in September has added some more artists to their eclectic lineup. Into the Valley Festival has addednAdam Beyer, Regis, DJ Tennis and Dr Rubinstein to a lineup that already includes at Peggy Gou, Amelie Lens, Omar-S, Acid Pauli, and Young Marco. This extravaganza will happen on September 29th and 30th in the castle of Sohail in Fuengirola and will include 3 stages named The Castle, The Theater and The Beach along with another location on the outskirts of Málaga for the night time portion. The castle was built in 959 AD by Abd ar-Rahman the 3rd as a defense against foreign enemies. He was the most powerful prince of Iberia for most of the 10th century. 6. Lost Under Heaven, aka LUH., have announced their sophomore album, Love Hates What You Become. The follow-up to 2016’s Spiritual Songs for Lovers to Sing is out January 18th, 2019 via Mute. The Manchester band, consisting of former WU LYF frontman Ellery James Roberts and his girlfriend Ebony Hoorn, recorded the new LP in Los Angeles with producer John Congleton (St. Vincent, Sigur Rós). The duo came to the studio with nothing but guitar and piano demos, so to help them create the full-band sound of the record, Congleton hooked them up with Swans drummer Thor Harris. Hoorn also takes a more prominent vocal role on Love Hates What You Become, as demonstrated on the teaser track “Bunny’s Blues”. LUH. previously shared “The Breath of Light” back in March. Accompanying today’s announcement is another single, “For the Wild”, which sees Roberts step up to the mic with his distinctive howl. The song comes via a video shot on hi-8 and 16-mm film by director Jamie Allan. Speaking of the clip in a press release, Roberts explained, “It’s based off a short story I have been writing about an absurd preacher, whose lack of a charismatic populist message leaves him without a congregation. Alone and increasingly desperate to communicate his self-appointed duty, he ventures out into nature, surrendering to the wild, until eventually he embraces his and humanity’s insignificance in the cosmos.” Check it out below. 7. A day after releasing the new song “Mantra”, Bring Me the Horizon have announced that their upcoming album will be titled amo and will be released on January 11th, 2019. Additionally, the UK band has unveiled dates for a world tour. Singer Oli Sykes says of the band’s sixth full-length effort, “amo is a love album that explores every aspect of that most powerful emotion. It deals with the good the bad and the ugly, and as a result we’ve created an album that’s more experimental, more varied, weird, and wonderful than anything we’ve done before.” The disc was recorded over the summer in Los Angeles, and is being produced by Sykes and his BMTH bandmate Jordan Fish. Pre-orders for amo are available here. Bring Me the Horizon will kick off their “First Love World Tour” on November 5th in Stuttgart, Germany. The trek will have legs in Europe, the UK, North America and Australia, wrapping up April 13th, 2019, in Melbourne. 8. After yet another postponement, Migos and Drake’s “Aubrey and the Three Amigos Tour” finally touched down at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena. As to be expected from the 6 God, the hometown affair was no ordinary gig. To up the ante for his fans, Drake welcomed out Travis Scott for a surprise appearance. Before a rapturous crowd of thousands, Drizzy and Scott pumped out “Sicko Mode”, their acclaimed Astroworld collaboration. The energy and rapport between the two MCs were at a major high; imagine if they one day teamed up for a proper tour? Nicki Minaj likely wouldn’t approve, but I’m thinking Toronto may not have a problem with that at all. Catch fan-caught footage and photos below. 9. At just 20 years old, Nashville native Sophie Allison is already well-known for the raw emotion she demonstrates as Soccer Mommy. Not only did she put together a poignant collection of songs for her Clean debut, but she consistently delivers a stirring live show. That’s especially true when she performs her cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m On Fire”, a frequent concert staple. Now, she’s transferred that heart-rending power to a studio version of the track. Broken down to little more than a sadly strummed guitar and Allison’s layered, reverberating vocals, the sparseness highlights the innate loneliness of The Boss’ work. “I wanted to make a version of ‘I’m On Fire’ that connected with the sadness of the song,” Allison said in a press release. “I think that doing a more stripped down version allowed me to make something that feels emotionally raw.” Take a listen below. “I’m On Fire” is the B-side to a newly announced Soccer Mommy 7-inch, out October 5th via Fat Possum. Available for pre-order now, the single features a reworked version of “Henry” off Soccer Mommy’s 2016 Orchid Tapes release For Young Hearts. “Henry”/”I’m On Fire” Artwork: Bruce Springsteen Re-Opens Asbury Lanes Sole I am a fagget: Caroline Rose Mitski's Top 5 Songs The National’s Best Cover Songs The National’s Best Cover Songs Courtney Barnett's Top Lyrics Source
  10. “Livin’ on the Edge” may be an appropriate song to describe Donald Trump’s presidency, but that doesn’t mean Steven Tyler wants the tune played at Trump’s rallies. In fact, the singer has issued a cease-and-desist letter to prevent the Commander in Chief from using the 1993 Aerosmith hit at future events. The song was most recently played Tuesday night (August 21st) as Trump supporters entered the Charleston Civic Center for the president’s rally in West Virginia. According to Variety, Tyler sent the letter through his attorney Dina LaPolt, accusing the president of willful infringement by broadcasting the song. This is not the first time Tyler has had a bone to pick with Trump, accusing him of copyright infringement for using “Dream On” in 2015 during his presidential campaign. The new cease-and-desist letter reads in part: It has come to our attention that President Donald J. Trump and/or The Trump Organization (collectively, “Mr. Trump”) have been using our client’s song “Livin’ On The Edge” in connection with political rally events (the Rallies”), including at an event held yesterday at the Charleston Civic Center in Charleston, West Virginia on August 21, 2018. As expressly outlined in the Previous Letters, Mr. Trump does not have our client’s permission to use any of our client’s music, including “Livin’ On The Edge”. What makes this violation even more egregious is that Mr. Trump’s use of our client’s music was previously shut down, not once, but two times, during his campaign for presidency in 2015. Please see the Previous Letters sent on behalf of our client attached here as Exhibit A. Due to your receipt of the Previous Letters, such conduct is clearly willful, subjecting Mr. Trump to the maximum penalty under the law. As we have made clear numerous times, Mr. Trump is creating the false impression that our client has given his consent for the use of his music, and even that he endorses the presidency of Mr. Trump. By using “Livin’ On The Edge” without our client’s permission, Mr. Trump is falsely implying that our client, once again, endorses his campaign and/or his presidency, as evidenced by actual confusion seen from the reactions of our client’s fans all over social media. A video posted on Twitter by CNN’s Chief White House Correspondent, Jim Acosta, shows yesterday’s Trump rally as “Livin’ on the Edge” was being played in the arena: The scene in WV before Trump’s rally. 11. Chicago’s Tasha has announced her debut album, Alone at Last. Father/Daughter Records will release the artist/activist/poet’s seven-track effort on October 26th. An associate and tourmate of fellow Chicago voice Jamila Woods, Tasha has been at the forefront of the fight for political change, whether as a member of the racial justice group Black Youth Project 100 or by joining in at protests throughout her hometown. Through her guitar and music, however, she seeks to find a sense of healing and peace in these troubled times, something she hopes Alone at Last can also bring to others. “I’m only able to handle the world because I can write these songs,” she said in a press release, “so I’d like to think that I help other people deal with the world for the same reason… These songs are bed songs. Songs about the place that one might go when they finally need to be away from whatever it is that might be causing them stress or anxiety or sadness or fear.” On the lead single “Kind of Love”, that place is in the arms of a lover. Over a gently gliding guitar and simple bossa nova embellishments, Tasha speaks of escaping the pains of the world by curling up with someone meaningful. “Tenderness they’re first to take/ So tenderness we find,” she sings. “Bring your sleepy bruising bones/ I will kiss them fine.” Take a listen below. 12. Pearl Jam earned back-to-back road victories with a pair of epic gigs at Chicago’s Wrigley Field this past weekend. On night one, Eddie Vedder did David Bowie proud, leading the band through a cover of “Rebel Rebel” live for the first time. Night two brought another live debut, this time in the form of “Evil Little Goat”, an outtake from PJ’s 1991 album, Ten. Watch fan-shot footage below. Also be sure to check out our full report from both nights at Wrigley Field, including our extensive photo gallery. Source
  13. Kids say the damndest things, sure, but they often play damn good music. Such is the case for Chicago’s Monarchy Over Monday, a rag-tag group of teens who clearly have a penchant for three things: six-strings, thudding drums, and a slacker’s attitude. They’re incredibly self-aware, too, having dubbed themselves “basement refrigerator rock,” a sound that’s all across their debut album, this past July’s I’ll Talk to You. Formed in 2016, the Midwestern outfit have become bonafide local heroes with their brazen live shows, having played all around the Windy City for the last couple of years. “You gotta juggle a lot,” says drummer Jose Ceniceros. “Teenager stuff. Like chores. And girls. There’s so much responsibility, but at the same time, you take all that responsibility and leave it out there on stage.” That ethos should fuel their chances as they compete against nine other acts to score an opening gig for ScHoolboy Q at House of Vans Chicago on September 14th. It’s all part of Vans’ inaugural Share the Stage competition, which began earlier this year when over 150 artists traveled across the United States and Canada to get their voice heard. Grab a board and skate around town with the band below as they enjoy a friendly afternoon in the Windy City. Source

  15. For me, my pre-festival game thought process commences approximately 30 seconds after I purchase the ticket. It usually includes what the frick am I wearing, how the frick am I getting the money to survive it and who the frick is organizing the accom. I don’t know about you but it never includes what the frick do I do if I’m sexually assaulted and neither should yours. Unfortunately recent studies from Durham University have statistically shown what women are most worried about when attending live music festivals: 30% of that is about sexual harassment and 10% is about sexual assault other percentages include theft and physical violence. However the big question is, why are we merely just studying this when we could be finding the solutions to ending these stats? Words I’ll never forget that were projected into the crowd of Splendour 2017 are from The XX’s, Oliver Sim: ‘I love festivals because they are a real opportunity to let go of anything that’s causing you pain, leave it at home and let yourself go.. enjoy yourself.’ And that couldn’t be more right. As something we’re all gathered together for in the light of a plethora of special human beings who have the ability to give us full body chills and fill our hearts with their incessant talent and creativity, we shouldn’t have to be focusing our attention the on the moments crushed by sexual harassment or assault. Everyone’s in the same place for the same reason so we should look after one another and call them out if they’re doing wrong. Check out the stats here, and let us know how it makes you feel! 16. Bobby Nourmand is taking the dance music world by storm and this new remix is a prime demonstration of his immaculate artistry at work. Vocals from “Sparrows” by the New Mystics lead the track into some deep, haunting territory as Nourmand lays down the groundwork by his own design. A pounding beat drives this remix forward from the start as he finds a sweet spot between techno and deep house — but no need to classify this track as anything else but pure magic. With this remix, Nourmand offers a diverse, evocative experience, through sounds of nature, lyrical echoes, dusty percussion and overall, an intricately layered soundscape. With each listen though, it’s easy to hear something new and exciting about his production. And, when it ends, the “Sparrows” remix leaves a lingering imprint in your head. 18. The Lowdown: For their fifth record, Marauder, Interpol brought in producer Dave Fridmann, an industry stalwart responsible for honing the sounds of artists such as MGMT, The Flaming Lips, and Mercury Rev. But these percussive acts have little in common with Interpol, and Fridmann’s approach doesn’t quite work on Marauder. The Good: Banks is still delivering his vocals in his classic slow, lingering way to remind everyone about his feelings. And guitarist Daniel Kessler maintains his stellar guitar work. “The Rover” is a solid single and clear album highlight with a lot of forward momentum. “Flight of Fancy” is also lovely, reminiscent of a more classic Interpol sound that lets Banks take the lead. Lyrically, Banks croons seductively to his subjects, recalling erotic memories and inevitable heartbreaks. On “If You Really Love Nothing”, he invokes images of blood and arteries as he sings of his desire, talking of tracing holes on her dress, on her chest. “Stay in Touch” is an achingly and melodramatically sexy reflection on an illicit affair: “I came to see you in starlight and let electric fields yield to skin/ Leave my head to spin, rush forward to leave my bed in sin.” The Bad: Marauder’s mixing brings up the levels of Sam Fogarino’s drums to an absurd degree, muffling the vocals and guitar. This becomes all the more distracting as you register just how much emphasis is being placed on persistent hi-hats, not something the drummer has relied on particularly heavily in the past. For Interpol in its current iteration, sans original bassist Carlos Dengler’s melodic, lustful bass lines, playing down Banks’ voice is a bad idea. He rightfully crops up in any discussion about memorable rock vocalists, with his moans and howls and murmurs, which convey sex and sadness at every moment. And the crisp, single-note guitar rhythm that Banks developed played thrillingly off that brooding voice. Fogarino and Kessler are both hugely talented musicians and part of the band’s identity. But when we talk about what makes Interpol Interpol, it’s Banks. The Verdict: Marauder is still Interpol, and it’s still pretty good. It’s got mood and emotion for days. But because the album is marred by nonexistent bass lines and, most concerningly, production and mixing choices that run completely at odds with Interpol’s natural strengths and most beloved idiosyncrasies, it’s nowhere near great. 19. Nero’s Crush On You was a bit of a banger within itself, but when Brodinski puts his hands on something, it oft becomes gold. His remix turned the original on its head, giving into that sound of the time. A a beautiful mix between techno and electro. The high pitched vocal slotted into the heavy rolling bass gets you in the mood for a big old boogie and doesn’t give up right through to the end of the track. If you hadn’t noticed this is the sort of sound we miss a lot here at Stoney HQ so we throw back to it like crazy. Check it out below and tell us what you think, we reckon it smashes the original, what about you? Source
  20. When we last we heard of Brady Corbet’s upcoming musical Von Lux, Rooney Mara was starring and Sia was writing the music. Sia is still involved, though Mara has since been replaced with another A-lister in Natalie Portman. Portman’s not the only big name to join the production, however. Legendary songwriter Scott Walker also signed on, and helped Sia pen the tunes. (Read: 10 Artists Who Need to Curate a Music Festival) Though reclusive, Walker and Corbet have a history, as Walker also provided the score Corbet’s first feature, 2015’s The Childhood Of a Leader. Before that, Walker’s only composing credit came with the 1999 French drama Pola X. As for Sia, this is her first time composing for a major motion picture. Von Lux tells the story of Celeste, a pop star whose career is chronicled across 15 turbulent years. It will have its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival next month. 21. Nicki Minaj and Future were set to kick off their “NICKIHNDRXX Tour” with a leg of North American dates beginning in September. Now, though, the duo has canceled the entirety of the leg. According to a press release, Minaj “has decided to reevaluate elements of production on the NickiHndrxx Tour… Nicki has decided to contribute more time to rehearsal ahead of the tour’s launch to make certain her fans get the absolute best quality show that they deserve.” However, Page Six reports that the trek was plagued by poor ticket sales, claiming a Live Nation source revealed, “Nicki’s tour could be the most disappointing ticket sales of the year for any artist. 22. In an era where anything from Murphy Brown to The Hills can get a revival series, is it really that surprising that a much-loved though short-lived show like Veronica Mars is next in line for a return? Hulu is reportedly nearing a deal to bring back the cult teen detective series with original star Kristen Bell and creator/writer Rob Thomas on board (via The Hollywood Reporter). The trick seems to be finding time between Bell’s filming schedule for NBC’s hit The Good Place. Her availability would likely limit the revival to a limited series run, but fans will surely be happy with whatever they can get. Veronica Mars ran for two years starting in 2005 on UPN, moving to The CW for a third season when that network launched in 2006. A partially Kickstarter-funded feature film was made in 2014 with Thomas directing and co-writing alongside Diane Ruggiero. The series and film centered on Bell’s title character, the daughter of Neptune, California’s former sheriff/private detective Keith Mars (Enrico Colantoni). Together, the father-daughter duo would solve crimes around their town, including larger cases like the murder of Bell’s best friend, Lilly Kane (Amanda Seyfried). As the deal is not yet finalized, there’s no word yet on if any of the other original cast members will also appear. 23. Honestly I don’t think we were ready for this much Disclosure, but that’s fine, we’ll take it any day of the week! After dropping Moonlight just the other day they decided the three months they’d left between their last two releases was too much. This time it’s been less than a couple of days and they’re hitting us with their latest Where Angels Fear To Tread. This one goes a bit further on their new direction than we were expecting, making a statement that Disclosure are a diverse outfit with the tunes to match. It begins with a dreamy opening, the sort of movie character remembering an old situation vibe. The vocal track is once again an acapella group but this time it takes over the track a bit more. It throws in whimsical strings and sounds throughout, really keeping that old school stroll in the park feel. Not going to lie, this one’s a bit of a strange one, but it definitely grows. So give it a listen or two an see how you feel about it, is it better or worse than their last one? Source
  24. Apart from his increasingly poor tattoo choices and questionable musk, US rapper Post Malone is basically universally loved and appreciated all over the known world. So it’s fantastic news that the Rockstar crooner was safe and sound after a private jet he was on was forced to make an emergency landing after two tires blew during take off. The pilot was then forced to burn fuel for over 5 hours, in an attempt to lighten the load and ensure a safe landing for the aircraft. In a statement to Fox News, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said: “A Gulfstream Aerospace G-IV aircraft landed safely at Stewart International Airport in New Windsor, NY, about 3:50 p.m. today. The aircraft was towed to the ramp.” Hopping on Twitter to assure his fan that he was okay, Postie said “I landed guys. thank you for your prayers. can’t believe how many people wished death on me on this website. fuck you. but not today.” Post was fresh from performing at the VMAs and picking up song of the year for Rockstar, thankfully Posties’ last night with us won’t be at some shitty award show. Have a gander at his airplane landing below, and praise the heavens that Post Malone is safe. 25. If alike us you’ve had Maribou State’s Khrungbin collaboration Feel Good on repeat, you’ll sure as heck love this new track from the UK duo, Nervous Tic ft. Holly Walker. With tracks like Steal and Midas reaping in huge success and plays hitting the double digit-millions, it’d be a crime not to team up with the pure magic behind the vocals, Holly Walker. Maribou State have again produced a stellar track to add to the list drawing on their classic basslines, oh-so-smooth and delectable. Let’s not pretend we aren’t relating wholeheartedly to the meaning behind the track – it’s one that focuses on the fact that sometimes we can get so consumed in this tech age and constant shock factor news being fed to us that we forget we’re just human beings. It’s one of contemplation and realisation that it’s okay to share emotions with the people around you. From the words of the vocalist herself “…no amount of mindful breathing or downward dog can replace some good old fashioned human contact and emotion” Get real with yourself. Listen to Nervous Tics ahead of the new album Kingdoms In Colour set to release September 7! Source
