This coming December smalltown returns with a day/night event situated in an outdoor, inner-city location. It follows in the footsteps of the huge Easter weekend show with Dusky, and the massive 2017 doubleheader featuring Oliver Huntemann and Charlotte de Witte. With both those smalltown events selling out way ahead of time, you can once again expect more of the same. More info on the venue and production to follow very soon, but rest assured, your patience will be rewarded… Stephen Bodzin (GER) There aren’t many artists who can currently lay claim to being more celebrated than Stephan Bodzin. His live melodic version of techno is designed to stay with you long after the final beat has ended, inspiring fans to reminisce via online videos which always receive hundreds of thousands of views. It is no hyperbole to state that Bodzin is part of the dance music elite and one of the planet’s biggest drawcards. Soundcloud. Marcel Dettmann (GER) Marcel Dettmann’s Teutonic brand of techno has turned him into a global superstar. The fact that he is a Berghain resident sometime overshadows his true appeal: a performance machine with a technical proficiency rarely seen, a DJ metronome who never misses a beat. Pay attention; the master is back.Soundcloud. Dense + Pika (UK) The duo of Dense + Pika inhabits a space which many artists unsuccessfully try to reach. Their accessible style of techno never takes itself too seriously, yet displays a niche edge which also appeals to purists of the sound. Check their Essential Mix earlier this year for proof, an absolute masterclass in showcasing all shades of techno. Soundcloud. Made In Paris (AUS) Local support comes from rising Sydney star Made in Paris. The Upon Access label owner has pushed all the right buttons lately, finally fulfilling many industry insider’s predictions of her being the ‘one to watch’. We are very excited to finally have this future star on a smalltown lineup. Soundcloud This all sounds pretty good doesn’t it? You can find out more info below. Tickets Limited Presale $49 excl. Ravers are super imaginative when it comes to throwing ragers in cool spaces. Most recently, a former-coal mine in Germany’s industrial heartland was transformed into a techno club, and has proven to be the perfect host. Telekom Electronic Beats and Baka Gaijin teamed up to throw a massive party at a decommissioned coal mine site in North-Rhine Westphalia, known as Essen’s Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex. This wasn’t too long after a similar get-together at Landschaftspark in nearby Duisburg. With a number of social spaces, museums, a swimming pool and jogging course, Essen’s Zollverein certainly has a lot of character. Baka Gaijin’s Alexis Fallias further explains the appeal of industrial sites like these. “Both venues, in my opinion, don’t need big headliners because the venue is the headliner. After I picked Ryan Elliot up from the airport, when he saw the venue, he said it reminded him of his hometown in Detroit.” If you ever get an invite to a shindig like this — go. These pop up techno parties are a rare occurrence. “I think you can throw a maximum of three or four parties a year there,” says Fallias. “It’s a heritage site and they want to protect it.” One of the continent's most iconic and impressive venues. @EBnet @ZOLLVEREIN https://t.co/Wima8Uo16l — DJ Mag (@DJmag) August 16, 2018 H/T: DJ Mag, Electronic Beats | Photo via Rukes.com This article was first published on Your EDM. Since August 10, Getter has been slowly going over the meanings behind each of the songs on his album VISCERAL, one by one, until today when the full tracklist dropped. The description for the final track, “On My Way Out” featuring Joji, is still missing, but we expect it to come soon. In the meantime, learn and absorb everything you can about the new album below and listen to track 4, “All Is Lost,” with nothing, nowhere. VISCERAL is out September 28. the intro track on my album is called “purgatory” it’s an ongoing build into the album. i tried to use the feeling of being lost in purgatory, being fucked forever. stuck in your own crazy head. and shit just keeps getting worse. — VISCERAL SEPT 28 (@GetterOfficial) August 10, 2018 second track on the album is called “part of me” featuring @AudioOpera on vocals. this one is about being so close with someone that you will do or say anything to make them feel better. even if it means surrendering your dignity. their feelings are more important than yours. — VISCERAL SEPT 28 (@GetterOfficial) August 11, 2018 3rd track on the album is called “numb” featuring @ALLANKNGDM this track has an uplifting vibe, masked with false hope. this one is more about something just not working out. starting strong, but getting weaker. over and over so many times you are numb to it — VISCERAL SEPT 28 (@GetterOfficial) August 12, 2018 track 4 on the album is “all is lost” featuring @nothingnowhere this song is about having the feeling that everything around you is crumbling. whether it be from someone passing, a relationship ending, or just going through hard times. nothing matters, why continue? — VISCERAL SEPT 28 (@GetterOfficial) August 13, 2018 5th track on the album is called “best of me“ feat @sweetsoundxx this one tries to capture the feeling of being in a fucked up reationship. bad shit keeps happening, you’re always breaking up and getting back together. but the chemistry is stronger than the problems — VISCERAL SEPT 28 (@GetterOfficial) August 14, 2018 track 6 on “visceral” is called Release feat. @Midocamusic this song only took 24 hours to make. straight and to the point. this song is about having a cloudiness in ur head. something is wrong but u don’t talk to anyone to avoid pity. all u want is release — VISCERAL SEPT 28 (@GetterOfficial) August 15, 2018 7th track on the album is the colorblind interlude i redid this song so its less of a party and more of a funeral the most honest song on the album. i wrote the lyrics during a bad breakdown i was not in good shape. this song represents how crazy you can make yourself feel — VISCERAL SEPT 28 (@GetterOfficial) August 16, 2018 track 8 on VISCERAL is called "made for you" this one is about getting shut down every chance youre given. knowing, for a fact, that u belong with someone. showing that someone that you are in fact MADE for them, but they just cant see it — VISCERAL SEPT 28 (@GetterOfficial) August 17, 2018 track 9 is “bleed” featuring @nameulkwoe original version of this was on my planet neutral album. dedicated to one of my first friends in LA, Johnnie Greenback he always pushed me to make new, different shit. this song was and still is for him — VISCERAL SEPT 28 (@GetterOfficial) August 18, 2018 track 10 is “hold on tight” featuring @NJOMZA one of the first songs i made for the album. njomza is a great singer and knew exactly what to write. this ones about hanging in there when u think everything is falling apart. ur not as hopeless as u think — VISCERAL SEPT 28 (@GetterOfficial) August 19, 2018 Track 11 is the already released song titled "solo" Featuring @partypartynails this song was written on the "wat the frick tour" this song is about always being there for someone, no matter what. whether that be girlfriend, boyfriend, best friend, doesnt matter. you are there — VISCERAL SEPT 28 (@GetterOfficial) August 20, 2018 Full Visceral Tracklist pic.twitter.com/JMlw3rSdiv — VISCERAL SEPT 28 (@GetterOfficial) August 21, 2018 Photo via Rukes.com This article was first published on Your EDM. Hold on to your hot glue guns, crafters; Making It is coming back for a second season. According to The Hollywood Reporter, NBC’s hit reality crafting competition (and current balm for our trying times) has been approved for a second season, right as its first season preps its finale on September 4th. The show, hosted by Parks and Recreation stars (and good off-screen friends) Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman, basically grafts the tent-based pleasantries and well-meaning attitude of The Great British Baking Show and spraypaints it with a little homespun American charm. It’s an effective formula, especially for people who need something nice on TV – and it’s worked; Making It currently has a total of 6.3 million viewers, making it the most-watched new summer series. In the network’s coveted 18-49 demographic, the numbers are just as macrame-zing, with a 1.4 rating positioning it as tied for first in that demo. NBC Entertainment’s reality TV president Paul Telegdy said of the show, “Seeing firsthand the imagination of a true craftsman and, literally, watching them create something out of nothing is pure gold. Amy and Nick’s longtime friendship and affection for one another brings the show to a whole other level of fun and we look forward to seeing what season two will bring.” A major part of Making It’s effortless charm is the giddy charm of Poehler and Offerman, who brought their love of terrible crafting puns to a statement on the show’s renewal: “We’re sew excited to be Making It again. We promise season two will have you glued to your seat.” Sew are we, you two. Sew are we. Source

It’s one superstar collab after another for Marshmello — and this time he’s teaming up with Juice WRLD on a brand new single! The producer made it very obvious the two have a song coming out together via the social media post below, which Mello says he “can’t wait to drop.” Southside is also tagged in the post. Best known for his breakout hits “All Girls Are the Same,” “Lucid Dreams,” and “Legends,” Juice WRLD is a genre-bending MC soon to make waves in the electronic world. Having already worked with The Chainsmokers, he has a great head start. Mello has worked with plenty of A-List talent himself including Khalid, Selena Gomez, Juicy J, Bastille and he even produced a posthumous track for Lil Peep. Hot off his new album, Joytime II, it’s safe to say Marshmello is on top of his game. Be on the lookout for this collab soon! American TV network Fox recently aired a segment on bulletproof backpacks targeted at kids. Not in a way that we in Australia would air this segment, more like a ‘look at how fashion forward and lovely these backpacks are!’ sort of a segment. That’s all well and good, we know the US is a little cooked, but in the background of the segment they used La Roux’s 2009 hit Bulletproof, which if you knew anything about the song was not actually about being bulletproof. La Roux has come out swinging, speaking to NME and saying that ‘Using Bulletproof, a song I wrote about relationships, for a piece like this is abhorrent. I have never, and would never approve my music to be used in this way.’ Check how it was used below! Fox Business Network played the song “Bulletproof” to introduce a segment about using bulletproof clothing to protect school children from guns https://t.co/eVB8EmxzOw pic.twitter.com/zQ5D1yGJhj — Katie Sullivan (@KatSulls) August 20, 2018 Check the full segment here and tell us what you think, does La Roux have a right to be angry? ZHU already released one of our favorite collections of music for the year in the form of Ringos Desert Pt.1, but he’s still got more on the way and there’s a chance we could see another full album from the producer before the end of the year. ZHU announced on Twitter on Saturday: “Album is done.” Does this mean Ringos Desert Pt.2? Or is it something else entirely? He recently released a new single with Majid Jordan called “Coming Home,” and before that, “My Life” with Tame Impala and “Blame” with Ekali. Theoretically, any of these, or all of them, or none of them, could be on the album being referenced in his tweet. We’ll just have to wait and see, but no matter what, we’re excited. Album is done. — ZHU (@ZHUmusic) August 18, 2018 Image via Joe Vitalari @vtlmedia This article was first published on Your EDM. Source: ZHU Announces His Album Is Done Source

In 2013, siblings Kelly and Tyler McLean privately funded a brand new festival the duo named Splash House with hopes of bringing new life to their hometown of Palm Springs during what was thought to be a less desirable time of year for tourism in the area. Wanting to capitalize on the what he felt made Palm Springs stand apart from any other Southern California town and play to Palm Springs strengths to overcome the undeniable summer heat of the desert, Tyler McLean came up with the idea of throwing a laid-back, roaming, pool party with great music and a more relaxed vibe than the kinds of “fist bumping” pool parties nearby Las Vegas was known for. Despite some doubt the Palm Springs community ahead of the festival, McLean trusted the beauty of Palm Springs and went ahead with his pool party themed festival. “There’s no track record for an event like this, but the benefit of producing it in the private sector is, if it fails, it can be a lesson to the producer and no one else gets hurt.”Fessier, Bruce. The Desert Sun; 08 July 2013. In August of 2013, around 1,000 festival-goers showed up to dance around the pools at the Saguaro Palm Springs, Caliente Tropics and The Curve Palm Springs Hotel and Resort to a relatively modest lineup of around 20 artists that included Kidnap Kid, Classixx, and Eats Everything. Just check out the promo video below from the very first Splash House for a cool throwback that highlights how much Splash House has grown in such a short time. There’s this feeling of carefree fun I think every music festival attempts (with varying success) to create and that is exactly what Splash House nailed from the get-go. Even more than the incredible lineup McLean curates year after year, I believe Splash House draws more and more people poolside yearly because it is one of the few festivals where everything is taken care of! No fuss, no muss, and only Piña Colada filled coconuts. All the usual festival stresses you secretly hate but put up with as “part of the experience” simply don’t exist at Splash House. Hot? Get in the Pool. Tired? Go upstairs or take a free shuttle with complimentary Evian water back to your room (which is never more than 15 minutes away) and take a disco nap. Have a deep-seated fear of melting porta potties from your last transformational festival? No worries. You are at a hotel filled with real bathrooms and actual sinks with running water meaning you’ll never have to resort to cleaning your hands with Vodka when the provided hand sanitizer inevitably runs out an hour into the festival. With this kind of festival problem-solving paradise, it’s not surprising that when Splash House returned in June and August of 2014 for its second and third festival dates, attendance more than doubled with 2,000 people attending in June and 3,000 in August. As word began to get out about the festival, Splash House experimented more and more by including some pretty incredible (and sometimes downright weird) artists on their lineups. Moby played a rare DJ set at the June edition of Splash House in 2014, and did you know Elijah Wood was a DJ? He performed later in August with music partner Zach Cowie under the name Wooden Wisdom to the nearly 4,000 fans in attendance at the Saguaro, Hard Rock Hotel, and the Hacienda Cantina & Beach Club. Who wouldn’t want to party with Frodo? Or even with the Gossip Girl himself, Penn Badgley. With attendance steadily rising every year, 2015 saw the festival introduce the first set of after-hours shows at the Air Museum, and it was as popular as a venue then as it remains today. 2015 also marked the first year that people began to notice the downside of Splash House’s rising popularity: “The crowd appeared wet and impenetrable. I finally did make it to the DJ booth, where it was practically impossible to dance because of the tight crowd. There also appeared to be no room to swim. Bodies filled almost every square inch of the pool. My last stop was the Hard Rock, which after the Saguaro was a welcome change, only because I actually had room to walk and dance.”- Xochitl Pena, The Desert Sun; Palm Springs, Calif. 09 Aug 2015 2016 marks the only year the Splash House actually dropped down to two Hotels instead of three and was the first year I attended the festival. Despite deciding to go at the last minute, and attending the festival completely on my own, between Big Wild’s crazy/fun set at the Riviera and being able to see Justin Martin closer to the stage than I would have ever felt brave enough to get normally, I had an amazing time. To this day, the June edition of Splash House in 2016 remains my favorite festival that I have attended because it was the first time I truly felt like I was in charge of my happiness and that I wasn’t being held back from the same experience I saw everyone around me having by my social anxiety or extreme body consciousness (something I have dealt with since I was a child). And, even though it was sold out with around 5,000 people in attendance, I never felt crowded or like I was being pushed around. I remember being able to get in and out of the Riviera pool whenever I wanted and the Tiki Pool was practically empty! I remember loving all the crazy pool floats, including a champagne bottle that I falsely promised myself I would copy the next time around. It was a blast and I’ve been returning to the festival every year since. Sadly, despite being a pool party, Splash House now has size restraints on the pool floats they will allow. My plans for the ultimate cover image for my article were dashed when security wouldn’t let me bring the shark head pool float I had ordered just for Splash House in for even one photo. So be careful when bringing those Instagram worthy pool floats to Splash House. On the one hand, I understood there was little room in the pools left for large pool floats, but a fun Splash House pool float photo had been a goal of mine for years. And what’s the fun of a pool party if there’s no room to swim or play? Every overly crowded pool I saw over the weekend made me think of a quirky Shel Silverstein poem that always made me laugh as a kid. I included here because it was thinking of this poem that made me kept my spirits up even in my crankiest moments of the weekend. In the 6 years and 10 festivals that have come and gone since the very first Splash House, it seems the festival has become a victim of its own success and the idea of an anti-Vegas, relaxed, and laid-back pool party environment has gotten pushed a bit to the side while the festival fights to keep up with its own popularity. Don’t get me wrong. I had a good time at Splash House and I would recommend the festival to anyone in Southern California who hasn’t had a chance to experience it. But, this was not my favorite Splash House experience. The lineup was amazing and I would have endured much worse conditions to see even half of the artists on the bill. My personal girl crush, Mija, got grimy and raw with a set at the Air Museum that had me holding onto the rail in the very front of the stage for probably the first time in my life. I usually prefer to stay tucked out of sight or way in the back of the crowd but something happened during that set and the music spelled me into full levitation mode and I simply floated to the front. Then later when Dirtybird’s Fisher took the crowd on a ride with his popular song of the summer “Stop It,” I couldn’t help but feel like I wanted to stay on that roller coaster all night. Photo by Miranda McDonald Sunday, rather incredibly, had a lineup of DJs that I’ve listened to for years but for some reason had never had a chance to see live. For the first time in my Splash House history, I spent more time at the Renaissance than the other two hotels combined, with Latmun B2B Detlef, followed by Camelphat and a closing performance by Gorgon City. Sunday’s Renaissance lineup was an experience I wouldn’t change for the world. But the constant body to body crowd in the already hot weather of the weekend left me both uncomfortable and sunburned. All of the pools were so full of people when I did finally squeeze my way in I immediately missed a step, going completely under and getting a mouth full of water that was so salty that to keep from a panic attack I had to start mentally lying to myself harder than a kid telling their teacher the dog ate their missing homework! I was telling myself that the pool wasn’t salty because of all the sweaty bodies’ “electrolytes” I had just swallowed. It was a salt water pool. Right? NO?!? It’s okay. Alcohol is a strong disinfectant. Photo by Miranda McDonald With my usual safe place, the house haven OG Hotel “The Saguaro” (the only Hotel that has been a part of Splash House every year since it began in 2013) turning into an extra crowded hot mess, and not being allowed to bring in my pool float (whose shade would have prevented the nasty sunburn I’m nursing), I couldn’t help but feel a little deflated the first day. For me, this was the Splash House that proved more than ever that even with After Hours at the Air Museum, three hotels is no longer big enough for this Palm Springs summer staple. Both the June and August editions of Splash House in 2018 were sold to their 7,500 capacity. There needs to be at least one more hotel and in my opinion, double the amount of pool space. If only it was possible to have pools at the Air Museum as well! “The vision is that all the hotels in Palm Springs can maybe one day be a part of Splash House,”- Kelly McLean The Public Record; Palm Desert Vol. 37, Iss. 36, (May 6, 2014) This article was first published on Your EDM. Like the Phoenix rising from its ashes, Milwaukee’s Armstrong Ransome (né: Adebisi Agoro) is triumphing over tragedy. This past June, the rapper and producer suffered an incredible loss with the untimely death of his son, prompting him to shed his original moniker BLAX and look forward to the future with a new creative vision. That vision is an achingly human portrait of the times, fully enriched by the music of his Nigerian and Southern roots. Now, he’s one of 10 artists competing for a chance to open for ScHoolboy Q at House of Vans Chicago on September 14th. It’s all part of Vans’ inaugural Share the Stage competition, which began earlier this year when over 150 artists traveled across the United States and Canada to get their voice heard. “I want to make something that’s real honest for me,” Armstrong insists. “My vibe.” Step into his living room below and catch a glimpse at how he plans to achieve that vibe.
