  1. If you’ve yet to listen to Charlotte Gainsbourg’s SebastiAn-produced album ‘Rest’ you’re really missing out on one of the best albums of last year. For those who have, we applaud your impeccable taste, and would like to point you in the direction of Tensnake’s remix of ‘Sylvia Says’. Through the process of jollification, Tensnake does what Tensnake does best — he flips Gainsbourg’s ‘Sylvia Says’ into a heady mix of twangin’ electro and 80s synth pop. Throw in a suitably over-the-top breakdown and plenty of Gainsbourg’s honeyed vocals and you’ve got our new favourite track of 2018 thus far (admittedly this does change almost daily). Basically, you need this track in your life. Bonus round: Here’s the excellent Soulwax remix of ‘Deadly Valentine’ which also deserves a place in your life. The post Tensnake’s remix of Charlotte Gainsbourg’s ‘Sylvia Says’ is every bit as engrossing as the original appeared first on HBF. Source
  2. Alex Metric and Ten Ven’s collaboration ‘Otic’ has taken on a life of its own since it was circulated to a select few DJs at the beginning of the year. With plays from the likes of Solomun and Joris Voorn, it quickly became one of the most sought-after IDs in clubland and has since been signed to Anjunadeep. The track itself is an addictive fusion of hair-raising synths, emotive melodies and deep, rolling basslines. More of this, please. 4. We’re not going to declare Mylo’s return again because let’s face it we all know how that one always ends. But the sometimes producer does actually have a new track out — namely, a remix of Moon Boots’ ‘Power’ — and it proves that he’s still got that magic touch. Taken from Moon Boots’ debut album, 2017’s ‘First Landing’, Mylo’s epic remix is propelled along by rubbery leads, lashings of melodies and just enough of the original’s vocals to keep it on the right side of respectful. 7. If we were slap bang in the middle of peak blog haus the world would be going absolutely mental about Matlock-based trio Patawawa. But we’re not and Patawawa are still something of an undiscovered gem, sure they’ve gotten nods from the right people and publications but they’ve yet to really break into the British consciousness… yet. We’ve got the video premiere for the group’s new single ‘Patagonia’, a lush, disco-fied slice of upbeat funk, with a killer vocal that’s got people — who should really know better — comparing the group’s slender work to that of Nile Rodgers/Bernard Edwards et al. Sure, the similarities are there but we’re a bit more pragmatic and don’t believe such comparisons are fair or necessary just yet. Anyway, it’s really nice to see the British trio — which consists of Sam Wilmot, Rory Lovatt and Beth Garrett — getting the attention they clearly deserve, and it’s also really cool to see it’s via Splinter Records, who we’ve been championing for a while now and is run by former Ed Banger, Vicarious Bliss. The animated video — something of a calling card for the label — has been drawn by French illustrator Regards Coupable, who makes incredible erotic line art and is a pretty big deal on Instagram. Sadly, his erotic side doesn’t really rear its head in this particular video but nevertheless his interpretation really does capture the spirit of the track perfectly. If you like the cut of their jib (and why wouldn’t you) the band is playing in London this Tuesday for free, so long as you RSVP beforehand here. 16. It’s common knowledge that we’ve got a soft spot for French husband and wife duo My Dear. If you’re not familiar, they’re Romain Seo and his wife Blanche Seo. Romain was an important member of Crydamoure (Guy-Man’s) French house label in the late 90s, where he released a few tracks under the name Buffalo Bunch alongside Guy-man’s lesser-known brother Paul de-Homem Christo, basically — he’s a bit of legend. His wife, on the other hand, is an exquisite vocalist and successful journalist in her native France, too. A couple of year’s ago, we were sent a mysterious email from My Dear, before we knew any of the above, and it included a link to a track called ‘Standing In This Dream’, alongside a video produced by Daft Punk’s production company Daft Arts — and ever since we’ve been hooked. Since then, the duo has been gradually gaining steam with spots on Kitsune’s recent compilation, and they’ve also scored syncs on TV ads and movies. 2018 is set to be their biggest year to date as they’re finally ready to release their debut album, something we’ve been waiting for a while now. The album, titled ‘Together We Go’, will be released on 30th March but before that, the duo have unveiled a brand-new single, ‘Dreamer’, which is inspired by disco legend Giorgio Moroder. Check out the dreamy ‘Dreamer’ below and look out for their debut album next month, and the duo has a new My Dear website to check out, too. 17. SebastiAn is back with a brand-new remix of Charlotte Gainsbourg’s ‘A-ring O’Roses’, a track he originally produced for the singer-songwriters’ excellent new album ‘Rest’. The mercurial French producer, who’s has been hard at work on his second full-length album, doesn’t deviate too far from his original vision on the original and adds a chugging arpeggiated bassline and then furnishes Gainsbourg’s tender vocals with his patented brand of face-slapping drum hits. There’s no release date for the remix, but our spies tell us there’s actually going to be a ‘Rest’ remixes album featuring the likes of Alan Braxe and Tensnake, who’ve both revealed recently that they’ve remixed Gainsbourg, too. Ed Banger’s Pedro Winter has dropped several hints that Seb is hard at work on his follow-up to ‘Total’ and it might be released this year, though this is SebastiAn — who isn’t one for rushing out his music — so don’t be surprised if it slips to 2019, or 2029 for that matter, Check out Seb’s latest remix odyssey below. 19. Manchester in recent years has become something of a mecca for house and techno enthusiasts from across the world. But this Saturday, Manchester’s Albert Hall — a former Methodist church in the heart of Manchester city centre — will be thrumming to a disco beat as La Discotheque makes its welcome return and they’ve line-up an almighty international line-up. Headlining La Discotheque’s first party of 2018 will be legendary French duo Cassius who are one France’s most celebrated duos and played a major role in the country’s iconic French house scene during the 90s. They’ll be joined by German disco machine Purple Disco Machine who we recently sat down with to discuss his excellent debut album, which was released late last year via Australian imprint, Sweat It Out. Joining them will be the likes of Prosumer, Crazy P and Studio 54 stalwart Nicky Siano who will be bringing his Hallelujah Disco, complete with a live gospel choir, to Manchester for the very first time. Manchester’s very own party starters HomoElectric will be up in the VIP bell tower with residents Jamie Bull, Luke Unabomber and Will Tramp giving us a slice of the 0161 to this already star-studded, international line-up. Something unique to this weekend’s La Discotheque party is the aptly named “La Pisscotheque” which takes place — yes you’ve guessed it — in the basement toilets of the Albert Hall. A clever nod to Manumission’s legendary toilets, La Discotheque will be resurrecting the long-lost club toilet culture with Danielle Moore of Crazy P and DJ Paulette both set to perform — so, ladies, if there’s a long queue for the toilet you’ll probably know why. 23. Eskimo Recordings’ essential coloured series of compilations returns for its seventh edition and it has been given the colour purple. Packing a bunch of fresh cosmic delights from the likes of Antenna, Horixon, Simple Symmetry, Cavego and Future Feelings, the compilation series has quickly become an essential listen for fans of everything from nordic cosmic disco to obscure pop gems. To celebrate the forthcoming release of The Purple Collection — which will be out on March 2 — Eskimo has kindly given us the exclusive first play of Antenna’s contribution to the compilation, ‘Sparks’. Despite producing his music in sub zero temperatures in his native Russia, Antenna has a real knack of packing in sunshine and soul into his music, and ‘Sparks’ is no different. Featuring warm arpeggios, chatty guitars and doughy basslines, Antenna delivers a track that’s every-bit as assured as his cosmic contemporaries on Eskimo. As an added treat, we’ve also got a rasping new track from our favourite Greek disco producer NTEIBINT to share with you. He has teamed up once again with fellow Athenian Σtella for a sci-fi disco ballad, full of heartbreaks and mellow synth lines. More of this, please. https://www.facebook.com/eskimorecordings https://twitter.com/eskimorecords https://soundcloud.com/eskimorecordings The post Eskimo Recordings announces The Purple Collection, hear a fresh track from Antenna appeared first on HBF.
