  1. It’s hard not to see Daft Punk’s expertly excuted pivot into merchandising as preying on its fans’ wallets. Since the store opened in 2014 Daft Punk have put their seal of aloof-robotic-approval on 45 products — from frisbees to beach towels — and with it the store has quickly become something of a money-making machine for the conspicuous duo. The thinking is, like with tradition, Daft Punk are investing the money back in their craft, and potentially a new tour. But three years of emptying fans’ wallets every few months has seen T-Bang producing Arcade Fire’s new album and G-man working with Charlotte Gainsbourg — and still no tour. On the tour front, we have come across a new rumour — Primavera Sound’s organisers apparently let it slip during a live Q&A on Facebook live that the duo are indeed working on tour for 2018, but the original article makes no mention of which live stream, so it’s hard to substantiate the rumour, but you can read the original article, which mentions the tour rumour, here. Anyway, Daft Punk Inc have added three new Christmas-related products to their webstore, including Discovery-era helmet baubles, there’s also a rather fetching The Weeknd era snow globe and a very cool looking limited edition jigsaw of the story of D.A.F.T video. With the ornaments and puzzle costing $45 each, and the snow globe costing $50. BUT WE WON’T BE BUYING ANYMORE DAFT PUNK MERCHANDISING UNTIL THEY ANNOUNCE A DAMN TOUR FFS. But you can here. 3. The opening DJ cuts out and, right on cue, the crowd goes wild before tapering back down to a silent reverence and collective anticipation. It’s the final night of LCD Soundsystem’s marathon five-night, sold-out tour stop at the iconic Hollywood Palladium and, judging by the intensity of the the crowd, they’re wishing they could have LCD Soundsystem for another five nights. After all, this is the band that threatened a farewell tour only a few years ago. Without preface, the seven-piece band slams into a cacophonous, heavy rock introduction for ‘Losing My Edge’. James Murphy roars into the mic before the recognizable melody of the song takes form and the crowd’s rapt attention morphs into euphoric recognition. The irony of it all is not lost on the crowd as they watch the now 47-year old front man lead them into hysterics. It’s a surprising song to open with for a fan-base that has lately come to expect ‘Oh Baby’, ‘Us vs Them’ and occasionally ‘Get Innocuous’ to be the opening track. James Murphy has not lost his edge. “LCD shook things up for the final night and the crowd was all for it.” As if to continue the irony and comment on the song before it, the band wastes no time leading in to their anthemic hit ‘I Can Change’. Not that they need to try harder (or change) for this sold-out crowd of doting fans, but LCD, the overachievers that they are, have altered their tracklisting again from the night before. It’s a trait that has become synonymous to their style: a predictable unpredictability to the order of their set. Of course, they kept most of their hits at the forefront, but LCD Soundsystem shook things up for the final night and the crowd was all for it. Testament to any band’s skill is their ability to get the notoriously jaded VIP section to dance, and LCD had the VIP-ers practically convulsing on the hand rails. On the cusp of a mosh that was threatening to happen throughout ‘Tonight’, a newer track off ‘American Dream’, was the reminder that even through their disco and electronic sensibilities, this is a band that can go just as hard as any rock band. “Before leaving the stage, Murphy reassured fans with the cheeky promise, “this is not an encore, it’s just a pee break.” But never straying too far from their roots, they dove into another fan favorite ‘Home’ right into a Nancy Whang-led rendition of Chic classic ‘I Want Your Love’. Before leaving the stage, Murphy reassured fans with the cheeky promise, “this is not an encore, it’s just a pee break.” It was a consoling thought for anyone not prepared to end their night of LCD. True to his word, the band returned to the stage with a rousing rendition of the much-awaited ‘Oh Baby’ and, rather than end with the classics ‘Dance Yrself Clean’ and ‘All My Friends’, the group inserted the wildcard choice ‘Emotional Haircut’ into the mix to prolong the encore that much more. Despite their five-day run, even LCD Soundsystem was unwilling to leave the spotlight at the end of the set. It was a communal sentiment shared by the crowd and band alike. As the house lights turned on to signal the inarguable end to the night, the reverent applause and roars still echoed throughout the Palladium’s halls. No, LCD Soundsystem have certainly not lost their edge. 6. The first time we heard Jacques’ ‘Dans La Radio’ we were hooked, then we saw his haircut, and to be quite honest we were in awe; then we saw his live performances online, and ever since we’ve wanted to find out more about this peculiar looking (and sounding) Frenchman. Luckily, he’s playing in London next week (December 7) at Oslo, and ahead of his hotly anticipated performance he kindly agreed to hit the Introducing hot seat to answer some of our most burning questions. Hello. Hey. Can you please Introduce yourself. My name is Jacques. Whereabouts are you today…? In Milano for a gig, drinking with a mate in the backstage box. And what’s the view like…? Who inspired you into a life of music…? At first my parents, then my friends and today it appears to be the most obvious way to live my time. Do you ever regret it…? No. I am not so much into the past conditional. If you could change one thing about the music industry what would it be and why…? I think I would include Spotify Premium accounts into taxes so everybody can listen to every music and that’s it. Mac or Windows? MAC. Analogue or digital? Electro-acoustic. Tea or coffee? Both. Ableton or Logic? Ahah Ableton since so far, and Logic since yesterday :) Who is your favourite artist…? Abraham Poincheval is a man that really make the difference. His performances are going really far into extreme uselessness serving personal increasement. What was the first record you bought…? I buy records so rarely that I always feel like it’s the first record I buy. The last first one was Plankton by Ryuichi Sakamoto. The real first one might be Eminem ‘encore’ for a Christmas present to my brother, long time ago. What track do you wish you’d written…? Imagine by John Lennon. What track makes you happiest…? Ahaha one track that really works for me, for no particular reason, is ‘Beautiful Now’ by Zedd. What track makes you saddest…? Led Zeppelin — Since I have been Loving You Favourite venue/club..? Soap Club in Seoul. I think my live set might be lost somewhere on the internet. What’s your favourite after party record…? After parties are really hell on earth to me, that’s why I never follow my friends there. I don’t do drug at all and like to have sex exclusively with people I love. This being said, I would recommend, for those who don’t feel like me about afters, to listen to this What track has had the most influence on you…? Some tracks I used to listen to when I was young really shaped the way I listen to music today. And it’s something I try to escape from. Daft Punk’s ‘Highlife’ or Justice’s ‘New Jack’ are examples. Which of your own tracks are you most proud of…? I’m not so proud of what I released so far. I am proud of the Chinese version of my song Dans La Radio because it was not that easy to speak and sing in Chinese, and when I played it in China, people where understanding and enjoying, I was proud :) What’s your current favourite record…? If your studio was on fire and you go back in to save one thing, what would it be and why…? My guitar pedal rack :) The post Introducing: Jacques interview appeared first on HBF. Source
