  1. don't know if i've missed the wagon but i reckon bigpond is the cheapest. It's got $1.65 tracks as either 256 or 320 mp3s rather than itunes balls mp4s...
  2. At the moment, there's 4U rack cases at Jaycar on clearance for $99. Their code for it is HB6347, it's below trade price. I've had one carrying an amp in it (~20kg) for just over a year and it's been great. If you're looking for anything to transport gear, this is by far the cheapest roadcase i've ever seen...
  3. i think the point is that if we are paying money for music, and licenses, and other people are just ripping it off the net, then not only do the pirates make more money than us but they can then charge less (it makes business sense).
  4. ah ok. didn't know you were a computer repairer as well.
  5. Cough backwards compatibility between directx cough cough i haven't encountered a game that doesn't work on win7, your problems would mainly be with old openGL based stuff which was iffy on xp anyway im not trying to defend win7 but really dennis perhaps try actually using something yourself before flaming it (and then ranting about copyright...)
  6. Thanks, I would, but I don't want to have to drill holes for air in the Gator Roadcase :s A compressor might be the way to go thanks for this article it really explained alot.
  7. Installed the cheap version (as mentioned above) of 7 last week and going well so far. Just as stable as the RC, it seems to be running fine and no bsods or rsods so far. Only pushed the system with a few DX9 games so far, will try DX10 when i get my hands on some dosh to buy CODMW2. This is on a core2e6600 (2.4g)/4gb ddr2/8800gt. It's really fast as well. I'd reccommend, its pretty stable with mainstream hardware cause of the extensive pre-release RC testing imo.
  8. Thanks for the heads up Mr. Dennis, i ended up bailing cause an ACMA compatibility test was gonna cost 2k. JB also have advertised CDJ200s for about $440, which is pretty decent if you're interested in em. They also had the numark M4 mixer (which is 3 chan) for bulk cheap, i think it was 230 ish. I'm not trying to plug them, I don't work there and have no reason to, but it might save someone some money.
  9. pill

    New amp

I've mentioned this elsewhere but JB have some passive speakers that kick ass. I use the ALPA15s for mobile DJing. They are imported by TDJ australia who also do alot of stuff for cars and stuff. Just don't get the self amplified ones, they have horrible guts and the first one i tested instore blew smoke.
  10. I was looking at getting one of these for a set of speakers I hire out to people. Do you reckon a cheap compressor is going to be much more effective than that which comes built into some amps (if you'd like to know specifically it's the Peavey PV-8.5C)?
  11. Anyone in perth looking at selling one in good condition? I want to buy one (or two) asap. Let me know your price and i'll get back to ya. Cheers Daniel
  12. I don't suffer from hum due to using an isolater as mentioned above, but i suffer from the dreaded "hard drive in use" noise, its like a squelching noise and its fucking terrible. I have no way of getting rid of it, whenever I plug (either of my) laptops into something that is also plugged into the same power supply it comes out. I've tried GLIs... I also notice the same noise comes out of my pc when i plug my headphones directly into it. Man i wish that noise would die.
  13. Alot of this stuff is hard to learn hey. I learnt the basics of mixing from some dudes at my uni called EMAS (electronic music appreciation society - quite original), who did dj lessons. After learning the theory of it, it became alot easier... alot is theory, alot is practice, and that's where those DJ school things come along well because they cover most of it.
  14. haha vistaprint?
  15. Mate at JB quoted me $430. I want to use it as a basic cd player for now, and hopefully buy another and start beatmixing down the track. Is it a good idea or should i just use a shitty dvd player for the time being (to avoid buying the cd to mp3 format shifting license for $800/year...) Will the 200 dissapoint later when i want to actually mix? does anyone use 200s to hold down a good mix? cheers
  16. With regards to mobile djing and the pay rates.... ... indeed you do. i suggest friend's parties or somewhere friendly before you start asking money for it, and seeing someone else in action is a good idea. it's not as easy as it looks. and you can't expect to charge the big bucks before you are worth it. even with my time in the industry my rates are still tiny in comparison to some of the major players. In my (small in comparison) 5 years dj'ing, no crowd is ever the same, you need to learn to be able to adapt and read your target audiences as a mobile dj. pure wedding djs get good at it and that's why they charge so much; while not beatmixing makes mobile djs "fake djs" to some, they certainly make alot of money if they're decent, and ultimately, it's just to a different audience isn't it? A friend of mine charges $1200 a night. that's over $60,000 a year assuming one per weekend. I heard some companies give you 4 discmans and a $100 behringer mixer with some powered speakers and a wallet full of cds. I suppose that's why they charge so little and their clients never receive a quality service. I know that if I was going to let another Dj work under my banner, they'd get better quality gear than I use, because I don't want them ruining my name in the industry. This would mean months of training, imho. They won't teach you beatmixing, or many skills that would get you club work bar familiarity with the equipment. What "i'm a real dj" nutters seem to forget is that there are many different kind of djs, and its up to you what kind of line you want to go down. To be honest, it'll be a great way to make money and get familiar with equipment and crowds. However, remember that mobile DJs don't cater to clubs, they cater to mobile functions, and unless it's an 18th-21st kind of function, the guests probably won't want the kind of music you hear in your average nightclub. They don't care how many pioneers and technics you got, they care that it sounds good and the lights look cool. Whereas, club audiences differ hugely. It's up to you who you want to DJ for, and what your reasons for doing it are. In terms of the potential money, i'd say work with them for six months, then start your own business
  17. Hey everyone Just thought i'd start this thread and keep updating it (and hopefully you'll join in too) when I spot a good deal or find something for sale, to help anyone that wants to start mobile DJ'ing. I know when I started the best advice I got was from cash converters, and I wouldn't want anyone on these forums to have to go there The last good buy I got was a set of 15 inch passive speakers from JB Hifi for $450 (they were the Audioline brand) and they are actually pretty decent, and when you take the cost into account it's just amazing. They also have the Numark mixers at quite good prices (even better if you know someone who works there ) I also plan to start importing stuff from China, so I'm happy to re-sell to guys on this forum at low cost, and i'll keep posting updates on here. At the moment it's looking like the first lot will be wireless microphone kits (PLL multi-chanell) that retail at around 600aud for $250ish. I'll keep you posted.
  18. I see a few people using serato in clubs in Perth. Or at least i hope it's that and not VirtualDJ...
  19. i meant its easy to learn on
  20. I started off with hardcore trance (like the clubland xtreme hardcore cds). mixing two songs at the same tempo and then some with only 5-6 bpm difference. I've found virtual dj's sync screws up a bit on things with 4/4 beats and off-beat bass (like hardcore music) so diy ftw!
  21. it's better than not liking them. Hello, btw.
  22. Well dennis, as far as I'm aware, I am not actually conducting any format shifting so I don't need the format shifting license. The few cds I have I play off a cd player.
  23. So anyway, I'm looking at importing a fuck-off awesome laser from china, but I can't get my head around the laws here in WA. According to these party poopers, http://www.radiologicalcouncil.wa.gov.au/Pages/FAQ/Lasers.html, you have to have a license to operate any type of laser in the entertainment industry. But, lasers are freely available at many lighting shops, and nobody has ever said boo to me about the legality of them. You'd figure if they were illegal then you wouldn't be allowed to sell them. Does anyone know what the limit on power for different wavelengths of laser light are? eg 80mW for 650nm? If anyone has access to the industrial standard #2211 and could let me know that would be great.... it's kind of bullshit making a law but charging you $170 to find out what it is. Cheers
  24. I've been using it since about june. Installed it on one of my 4 hard drives, xp resides on another. Since installing it i've used xp 3 times to get stuff out of my old email inbox but apart from that, 7 is great. if you know anybody at uni/tafe you can get it for $50 - www.itsnotcheating.com.au (you need a tafe/uni email address to be eligible). "Windows 7 - It's like all the good bits of vista with none of the gay"
  25. a very wise tip someone told me is to start learning (getting your head around cue points, etc) by mixing the same song into itself. perhaps pick something with a long intro/outro before a complicated melody starts. I'd also reccommend grabbing a few pre-mixed cds and mix those into each other, cause most mixtape-cds have 20 or so tracks already at the same tempo. Once you know what to do then you can start beatmatching. It's alot easier than trying to learn how to cue something and beatmatching at the same time.
