ive got an MPD24. you sometimes need to hit the buttons quite hard but they do feel good. of course the satisfaction of hitting an arcade button may be more satisfying since you get some sort of response (that clicking). however the MPD does allow for sensitivity bashing when used with production software. my kinda thoughts are make sure you know what you want to do with it because the possibilities are endless, but take time to map it in full. ive said before i mapped it awesomely on paper. i.e. i printed out 4 pictures of the mpd (representing the four different configurations you could store). then mapped out being able to control transport; two whole decks (be it C & D as extras or A & B if i wanted to not use the turnies for the night); control effects; control looping; and control hot cues. then because of apathy to map, and the realisation i dont use any of those things except transport (which is already 2 buttons ctrl+arrow) i ended up not using it for djing.

oh i just thought of something. if both are crackling (which you have to admit is wierd unless of course you have used both equally), could it be a latency issue with your serato? so as above, if its just one try swapping the stylus amongst the cartridges to figure out whether it is the stylus or the cartridge. if it is both, try a normal vinyl to see if it still crackles the same. NOTE normal vinyl will have normal staticy popping

i remember at the argyle sometime last year, i noticed that the dj had 3 cdjs setup and someone had put the turntable on the floor(!), so not sure if that dude (or come to think of it i think it was a grrl) brought in a cdj or the club had a sparey. poor old techy again, no love. they still get lots of love at the hunter, sharkies, haymarket, tank on rnb night (before it shut), the gaelic and so on. just not from the dance scene i guess

EDIT: im in syd i dont play out so ill let those boys answer your question. but i do go out a lot, to bars, to clubs, and bar/clubs. every single place i have been to in the last 24 months the DJ has had a computer BUT using it with turnies or CDJs. a few have trigger fingers, and dices and i have seen one X1. only at one place have I seen a laptop/ controller only DJ and that is at the Arthouse on the bottom level. he had a midi compatible mixer and was controlling effects and possibly transport from the mixer (i didnt recognise the mixer from the floor, lots of channels and flouro green lines so possibly a korg?). have never seen anyone using an all-in-one device though
