Recommended Posts

Ok so I know there are a few ableton lovers on here, and Im sure more will come so I thought there shpould be thread dedicated to using as a production tool. Here is the place to post all things helpful to do with live. EG. tutorials, live packs, and just general tips that people might find helpful, like Tomy's kick thing but with a bit more ableton in it. So dont be shy, contribute.

I shall begin.

These two sites have some cool free alp thingys on them and puremagnetic have ones that you can pay for.

http://togeostudios.com/

Togeo has a lot of good shit

This dude made a bunch of peoples stuff and put them up for download. Pretty interesting, good to steal a few presets from.

This guy does weeklyish patches with some cool things, kinda like togeo studios. Im pretty sure he is from djf.

This next thing has nothing to do with production, not really that much to do wih ableton, but its pretty rad anyways.

Important note: if your using abelton for production make sure you turn "fades" off in the prefrences. otherwise your drum hits etc. wont sound as good. you can see what fades do in the arrangement view, just click the automation drop down box and select fades you'll see what i'm on about. Very Important!

I thought fades were only on audio?

Bit it wouldn't effect a sample when you drop it into a drum rack would it? I dont know but they can be helpful with vocal stems and the like when you come in and out of them, it can get a bit sharpish, if that makes sense.

VICTORY!

yeh the fades have there place some times helps get rid of pops / clicks at starts and ends. it wouldn't effect audio in a drum rack.

but i put all my audio straight into the arrange view so for me its a big no no. You can hear when its needed though. no need to have it on automatic so it does it to every thing.

Ok I have a question. When you drop a sample into an audio channel, you get your little sidebar thing, what are all the options above the transpose knob like save, edit, Hi-Q or something. What do these do exactly?

edit : launches your selected wave editing software as ableton doesn't come with it built in like logic,

save : save's the changes you've made to the sample. ie. if you wrapping track for a dj set save it on that little one and when you drop it in to a new set your wrapping will already be done. SWEET!

(saves in the sample file, doesn't change the orginal sound file)

REV : is reverse. nuf said.

hi-Q is a hi quality mode for if your pitching things down/up heaps or pitch shifting so there is less distortion. but drains CPU.

Noticed that if your looping on the first beat it doesn't come out that well, sounds a bit different. not sure if this happens all the time with looping or not..... going to investigate some more.

looping in arangement view.

ok guys, so im in arrangement view right.

Trying to put together a professional set.

I have the BPM set at 124. But there are certain songs that have an intro at about 85

ie. Strobe by Deadmau5. amazing intro, but ableton speeds it up.

Is there anyway I can slow down this part of the set??

automate the tempo in the mater channel down the bottom, click the little drop down box and select tempo, only downfall is it'll only go down to 60bpm but have a play maybe what you want? other wise you could just un-warp that part of the track.
