Tomy Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 Queensland Government considers plan to cut trading hours for pubs and clubs to 3amATTORNEY-General Jarrod Bleijie has flagged tougher penalties for drunken violence alongside a potential overhaul of trading hours for pubs and clubs. He said he was also looking at the success of winding back trading hours in combination with an earlier lockout as is currently done in Newcastle. It comes after The Courier-Mail today revealed an expert panel assembled my Mr Bleijie to help overhaul liquor licensing laws had recommended scrapping the 3am lockout and winding back trading hours to 3am. "We are seriously looking at the penalties applicable to people who are doing the wrong thing," he said. "And if we have to increase those penalties, to substantially increase those penalties, to substantially increase the banning orders, then we'll consider that as well." Mr Bleijie said he had discussed the Newcastle model which included reduced trading hours, a lockout and drink restrictions.full article here - http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/queensland/queensland-government-considers-plan-to-cut-trading-hours-for-pubs-and-clubs-to-3am/story-fnihsrf2-1226721312796Yet again our state gov. is really screwing our state. there are so many factors involved in this and it seems to be an on going issue as this isn't the first time they've tried it on. It's just a shame the majority of people will now have to suffer for the actions of the few. feel free to sign this petition to keep our venues open till 5am http://www.change.org/en-AU/petitions/t ... 3am-in-qld Quote
SolDios Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 Does the government seriously just look for ways to piss people off? I mean it's not even going to benifit them!Earlyer closing times = Less drinks sold = Less GST = Less taxable income.Seriously. Quote
Cupe Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 I think they outweigh the costs with emergency services and law enforcement and the courts as a result of street violence Quote
russell Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 I think they outweigh the costs with emergency services and law enforcement and the courts as a result of street violencethis. Scotland's always had 3am finishes for clubs for these reasons. To be fair thought it's the 3am finish that gives Scottish clubs their atmosphere. Everyone knows there's an end coming so they just go bush. And having a packed club that actually has a finale opposed to a club which stays open till 6 or 7am and just kind of peters out is actually more fun. And of course you get a healthy illegal after party scene on the go so your not going home at 3am anyway. Quote
mattus123 Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 And of course you get a healthy illegal after party scene on the go so your not going home at 3am anyway. This would be keyWhat i dont understand with this making the closing hours earlier though...I got out atleast once a week, sometimes 3 times.. and i have NEVER seen any drama on the streets on in a club past 3am... all the drama seems to occur around 1 oclock.. Infact, by the time 3:30 rolls around, all the wankers have gone home and its mostly just an awesome bunch of people who are out for a good timeSo by making clubs close earlier, its not going to change the people who get in fights and what not around the 1/2am mark.. if anything itll jsut push it forward as they start dirnking earlier to make up for the clubs closing earlier? Is there any logic in what im saying, or is there another side im just not seeing? Tomy Posted September 24, 2013 Author Posted September 24, 2013 yeah most the violence I see it early on in the night and even that's rare. maybe see something once a month. My guessing is if your there after 3am most likely you've got your hands onto some party enhancers thus not being as violent as your general drinker. it just really frustrates me that time and time again its the majority that has to pay for a few idiots bad decisions and shit house behaviour. such the Nana state up here in QLD. can't advertise drink prices out side of the venue and no one does drink specials any more because liquor licensing would treat you like a criminal and ban half your shit.
