Give it a go with the duo bro, I was pretty much your mate and asked a friend to teach me how to mix. We just had our first gig on Friday night that went really well. Because you will be teaching your mate it will make you learn more in the process. If all else fails nothing has been lost and you can continue down your own path.

OK so here goes my first gig log... for those that didn't hear my mate got us a gig at the Strathfield Sound Off competition in Brookvale. The owner wanted some background music whilst the competition was run and he wanted " anything dancey" 4:45pm: Get picked up from work by Kraver DJ and we are on the move. Destination Brookvale and currently heading across the Harbour Bridge. We need to be there for 5:30 to set up and be ready for 6. Traffic isn't too bad as we are just leaving before the rush hour on a Friday afternoon. 5:30pm: Arrive at Strathfield auto and already see a congregation of cars around the shop, located on Pittwater Rd in an Industrial area, its looks to be a perfect setting to play some beats. Go in side and find the boss Jason and do a quick intro. WE work out where we are going to place the table to have the decks on and start to set up. 6:00pm: A few more people start to arrive, Kraver jumps behind the decks and start to play some tracks.. The sun hasn't set yet and the glare is making it hard to see what tracks are on the CDJ900's.... Kraver jumps off and gets me to start playing... First song i was on a slight shake from the excitement, there are about 30 people just standing around talking shit. I decided to go with some cheese, playing Titanium (Nicky Romero remix) and continue going from there. Transitions weren't too bad so Kraver and i then go 4 for 4 7:00: The sound off has started there is about 60-80 people standing around checking out the db readings as the cars go through the heats. A few of the promo girls have come up to us asking us questions while we are playing some tracks, we kindly answer them and continue to down our beers (They weren't to harsh on the eyes lads ) 8:00: Ok so shit gets heavy start banging out some real dirty electro and Kraver is banging out the dub, have a few heads bumping but we aren't exactly at a club so we weren't expecting many people to be dancing. i jump out on the df and bust out a shuffle, by now we have lights a laser and a smoke machine cranking as well. At this time there is close to 100 people standing around. 9:00: Time for a break as they do some announcements, we chuck on a mix from my iPhone and let that play as we walk around a chat to a few people (no we didn't stand behind the decks with a pre mix pumping our arms in the air thinking we are mad whales ) 10:00 Few more beers down and more tracks played i go upstairs to grab another drink and one of the boys introduces me to his mate charlie feeling a lot better now floating around while Kraver is cranking the dub. 10:55 Competition is nearly over, what do you know Crundy turns up and comes to say hey while I'm behind the decks. I finish off a song or two and wonder over to Crundy to have a chat, his mate is a legend btw... 11:30 Competition is done they hand out the trophies and everyone scatters. Now its time for packing up within 15 mins everything is broken down and put back into the car. I say good bye to the team at Strathfield Auto, bunch of mad whales they were and find the boss. Talk a quick bit of shit saying if there are any further comps we will be glad to play and if he can refer us on to others it would be appreciated. With the cash in my pocket we jet off to grab a bite to eat and go to sleep. All in all a great way to ease myself into playing in front of people, yeh i fucked up a few times but hey its all apart of learning isn't it...

Hey Guys, This was a quick mix I did the other week, I have been meaning to post something up for a while. As you will be able to hear I am still learning but I am happy with some elements of the mix. Listening to this has allowed me to learn more. Went to this on Saturday..... Definitely a must see if your in the Sydney area. Very family friendly and heaps to do. Bring an esky on wheels and fill it up with heaps of piss and it will be a great day.
