There’s a new Danny Brown album for you to enjoy, but the only way to hear it is on Twitch. As Pitchfork points out, Brown premiered a number of new songs during a Twitch live stream on Friday night. “This shit ain’t coming out, it’s only for Twitch,” Brown said, explaining that none of the samples in the songs were cleared. “It’s the first Twitch album ever,” he added. Brown’s last full-length album came in 2016 with Atrocity Exhibition. Last year, he collaborated with Paul White on an EP called Accelerator. He also recently contributed to alt-J’s Reduxer album. Space reigned as one of the top clubs in Ibizia for years. Space owed much of its success to Carl Cox, who played as its resident up to its close in 2016. The venue itself turned into Hï Ibiza, but the memory of Space lives on. However, Space may not remain a memory forever. Cox has plans to bring it back to life. Cox revealed his plans to bring Space back to Ibiza in an interview with BE-AT.TV. The outlet asked him if he planned on being a resident at a new club, but Cox rejected the idea. He then divulged a plan to bring Space back for the opening and closing weekends of the island summer season, but it didn’t pan out. Then, the kicker: he and Space’s previous management were looking for a new area for the return of Space. He detailed the idea in the below quote: No. I’m never going to do another residency on the Island, there is no club for me to play like that – Space was definitely the place for me. We have the idea of bringing Space back next year for maybe an opening and closing, but apart from that we are actually looking for a new area to build a new Space somewhere on the island. Cox followed up the news with plans for the new Space. He said the new Space would be in a quiet location, not next to a club like the one at the Ushuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel. He also shot down the idea of repurposing clubs like Amnesia and Pacha to be the new Space. For timing, Cox said the new Space wouldn’t likely arrive in 2019, but did tease for a potential 2020 return. His full thoughts below: Yes, it’s going to happen – there’s no doubt about that! I’m going to bring it back in the near or the distant future. I mean, I’ve lost my home and I need to build a new one. There’s no point in me going to Pacha to have the Space ideal. There’s no point in me going to Amnesia and just put the Space logo on that club. There’s no point in me going to Privilege and doing the same thing. There is no point, because Space was built as an independent club in Playa d’en Bossa. Playa d’en Bossa only became Playa d’en Bossa because of Space. The new Space doesn’t actually have to be on Playa d’en Bossa. Obviously we need some place where it’s a little bit quiet. There is no way I’m going to build a Space nightclub next to Ushuaia or anything. We will go to a completely new place with a new concept. But the idea is to have the same people who made Space and have people who want to support me in my quest to create a new Space back on the island. When asked about when Space would return: No, it definitely won’t be next year. But 2020 sounds fantastic to me. Keep your eyes peeled for the return of Space and perhaps a new residency from Carl Cox himself! We’d open up your 2020 travel plans just in case. Liam Gallagher and his girlfriend, Debbie Gwyther, are pushing back on a report from UK tabloid The Sun accusing Gallagher of assaulting her. A story published by The Sun yesterday quoted an anonymous source in saying Gallagher grabbed Gwyther’s throat during an argument at Chiltern Firehouse in London. The Sun says Gallagher was escorted out of the venue and proceeded to lash out by yelling, “She is a witch. It was her fault. She is a witch. She is a fucking witch’” Both Gallagher and Gwyther have both taken to social media to dispute the incident having ever taken place. “Firstly I have never put my hands on any woman in a vicious manner Secondly there is only 1 witch and we all know who that is as you were LG x,” tweeted Gallagher. Firstly I have never put my hands on any woman in a vicious manner Secondly there is only 1 witch and we all know who that is as you were LG x — Liam Gallagher (@liamgallagher) August 25, 2018 In Instagram post, Gwyther called the story a “pack of lies” and said she would be taking legal action against The Sun. We’re going to cut right to the chase on this one — Dubfire has set a new record for the longest solo performance ever to go down at Sunwaves Festival in Romania. The legendary techno DJ went for 26 hours and 30 minutes before throwing in the towel. It’s impressive enough to play for any extended period of time, let alone a performance that allows you to see both a sunrise and a sunset in one epic run. Marco Carola held the previous Sunwaves record after playing for 24 hours straight. tINI and Bill Patrick went back-to-back in 2016 and their set ran a total of 31 hours. Compare that to the Guinness World Record for longest DJ set, currently held by DJ Colossus after playing for 10 straight days. Who will step up to the challenge next year? https://t.co/MShGQ2Cv3l — Dubfire (@dubfire) August 25, 2018 This article was first published on Your EDM. Earlier this year, Mark Kozelek shared a sprawling, 15-minute song, “Day In America”, that was inspired by the Parkland, Florida shooting in February that left 17 dead. It was said to be the first cut from an upcoming collaborative album with Grammy-nominated saxophonist Donny McCaslin and Jim White of Dirty Three. Now, per Pitchfork, more details about the album have emerged. Called Mark Kozelek with Donny McCaslin and Jim White, the record is due out on March 1st, 2019 via Caldo Verde. Kozelek’s third act as an artist has been marked by excess, both lyrically and in his output. He delivered on his promise to release two new albums in 2018—one was a self-titled solo album, and the other a Sun Kil Moon record due out this November. Last year, he released both a solo EP under his own name and a Sun Kil Moon LP dubbed Common As Light And Love Are Red Valleys of Blood, as well as three collaborative albums with Jesu, Parquet Courts bassist Sean Yeaton, and Ben Boye and Jim White. See the artwork and tracklist for this latest collaboration below. Mark Kozelek with Donny McCaslin and Jim White Artwork: Mark Kozelek with Donny McCaslin and Jim White Tracklist: 01. Coyote 02. Kyle Pavone, vocalist of metalcore band We Came as Romans, has died at the age of 28. “Today, music lost another great with the passing of Kyle Pavone of We Came as Romans,” says a statement from the band. “Kyle’s tragic loss came too early in his life and those of his bandmates. “All are devastated by his passing. We will miss his smiles, his sincerity, his concern for others, and his impressive musical talent. In lieu of flowers, we will provide information regarding charity donations this coming week. The family and the band wish to thank their fans and the music community for all of their love and support as they navigate their grief.” A cause of death was not immediately known. Pavone joined We Came as Romans in 2008 as the band’s “clean vocalist.” He appeared on all five of the band’s albums, including 2013’s Tracing Back Roots, which peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard 200 album charts and claimed the No. 1 on the indie charts. Anyone listening to Zedd & Elley Duhé’s “Happy Now” on the radio would have expected the music video to reflect the song’s bright and hopeful sound, but they would be very, very wrong. In fact, if you listen closely to the lyrics rather than the notes behind them, you can discern a more sinister intent. The music video for “Happy Now” brings this intent to the surface, ever so slowly. A group of friends are vacationing at a house in the hills. Two women end up becoming interested in the same man, and when the man makes his choice, the other woman doesn’t take it very well. A combination of malice and deceit destroy the young man’s life, all while the young woman does her best impression of a woman beaten or abused. At the very last moment, a smirk flashes across her face. It’s unexpected and well worth the watch – check it out below! Photo via Rukes.com This article was first published on Your EDM. It’s been a fantastic week of surprise tracks from Disclosure, with five new songs to draw inspiration from, including today’s “Where You Come From.” Whereas past singles sampled American bands from the ’40s-’80s, this new one gets its influences from African artists. “‘Where You Come From’ samples the incredible Sudanese artist Kamal Keila and a few other tracks from the amazing record label Habibi Funk.” – Disclosure Disclosure released “Ultimatum” earlier this year after a long hiatus before surprising fans with this new batch of songs. Across the five songs released this week, the Lawrence brothers explore a depth of influences that draw from their love of African rhythms, deep house, disco and vocal jazz. “All of these tracks are sample based and we wanted to delve into genres that we hadn’t really experimented with in the past. What we ended up with worked so well together as a set – uplifting, upbeat and danceable, and it made sense to put them all out now in one go.” – Disclosure Check out “Where You Came From” below. Last year, Martin Garrix crossed over into the fashion world with Armani Exchange. He became the new face of the international fashion brand, including posing in model photos and rocking the looks in promotional videos. A year later, Garrix has returned to be one of the faces of Armani’s Fall Winter 18 Campaign, and a new video shows us what’s in store for the new fashion season. Garrix stars in the Armani Exchange FW 18 promo video, offering a quick look at some of the lines on the way this year. The video starts on almost disturbing note with Garrix screaming like an animal (pun definitely intended). The viewer is then treated to rapid-fire cuts and editing, showing Garrix jumping around, climbing things, DJing and more. Of course, he’s rocking a bunch of Armani clothing and looks throughout the video. Garrix’s collab with LOOPERS, “Game Over,” soundtracks the video fittingly. The highlight of the video? Garrix carrying around a megaphone equipped with a flashlight, basically creating one of the coolest props ever. Can we see Garrix waving this thing around at his shows? Whatever the case, the video is short, sweet and entertaining for a fashion promo video. MØ & Diplo put out the effervescent and bright tune “Sun In Our Eyes” earlier this summer, once again proving why these two were made to work together. However, as the summer moves along and as the days get shorter and just a little bit cooler, there comes a need for a bit of a different take on it. Enter: Don Diablo. The Dutch future house don (pun intended) keeps most of the song for the rise as piano notes and MØ’s voice intertwine, but completely redoes the drop into his own characteristic style. Don Diablo has developed his favorite synths and plug-ins, and we can’t blame him – they always come out sounding fire no matter what material he’s given to work with. Between MØ’s angelic voice and Don Diablo’s futuristic production, “Sun In Our Eyes” definitely got an upgrade. Check it out below! Photo via Rukes.com This article was first published on Your EDM. If there’s one thing Bassrush is known for, its dishing out some of the most unrelenting, heavy bass music in the world from top tier acts and up and comers alike. The Insomniac imprint deals on the bass side of electronic music and are back with another destroyer of bass rooms. Rising star in the bass world, Hekler, has teamed up with fellow producer Mastadon, to bring you “Buggas”, a simply monstrous tune that combines vocal snippits with vacuous heavy bass tones. The proper use of space within this track is worth note. While so many tunes these days seem to employ just a solid wall of sound in the main section, “Buggas” provides a great departure from that cliche, giving us something unique and fresh. Following up #1 “Older”, Dance DJ links with Singer for another Smash. “Friends” from Lodato, a track that features Joseph Duveen is a zombie infectious cut. Joseph Duveen’s work as a singer, songwriter and producer is also globally recognized, with him winning Remix of the Year in 2017, and the pair collaborated on “Breathe Again” in the same year. “Friends” is a driving, immediately fresh release for Paradise Circus, showcasing Duveen’s vocals amongst punchy piano chords and rippling rhythmical layers. Its feel-good lyrics will continue to bring good vibes as the summer draws to a close. Listen to “Friends” above, courtesy of Soundcloud. There’s only one more week until Jauz’s debut album The Wise and The Wicked is available everywhere, but fans are getting one last treat before the release: “Super Fly” feat. 666. This is not only the final single before the album drops, but also the final track on the album, giving this a sort of appropriate symmetry. After 22 other tracks, it’s incredible to think that the album will end on such a high-energy note. As a concept album, I’m not quite sure what to think of such an abrupt ending with no traditional “resolution,” but I’m sure it’ll all fit together once we’re able to hear the complete product. The vocals come from 666’s 2001 hit “Supa-Dupa-Fly,” but of course the production is all Jauz and is far more culturally relevant now than the original’s super Euro rave-influenced style. Check out “Super Fly” below and pre-save the album here. Photo via Rukes.com This article was first published on Your EDM. What’s in Alison Wonderland‘s bag? Well, you’re about to find out… In a fascinating interview with The Verge, AW literally spilled everything inside of her go-to bag for the site’s recurring feature. She’s the self-described, “Mary Poppins of packing.” So, she knows how to do it right. We’re not going to give away all of the secrets (check out the full article for that), but here are some of the most important things the multifaceted DJ/producer keeps in her bag. First up, she carries two bags. Her most personal item: Chickalobola. A stuffed animal chicken that has traveled with her to EDC, Coachella and beyond. “I got him from my grandfather when I was six, and I have never separated from him.” Pretty much an entire wardrobe: Pair of shorts, long socks, a oversized t-shirt, overalls and a “normal” t-shirt. “So if I lose my checked bag, then at least I’ll have a change of clothes for going out, one for walking around, one for a show.” Makeup: Concealer by Clé de Peau. “It literally changed my life.” Eyebrow pencil, lipstick, perfume, foundation. “I swear by Smashbox.” Glitter, obviously: “That’s very important.” Crystals: Amethyst is good for anxiety and clear quartz is “just good to have around.” The essentials: “Then I’ve got my passport holder, my wallet, and my keys, which have an alien and a Tamagotchi attached to it.” Hardware: MIDI keyboard. Headphones. MacBook. USB. Spare USBs. Source: The Verge | Photo: aLIVE Coverage for Insomniac This article was first published on Your EDM. Source: What’s In Alison Wonderland’s Bag? Since Avicii‘s passing, his family has received an outpouring of love and support — so much so, that it has almost been overwhelming. Now, there’s an official online forum to collect the millions of condolences and testimonials coming in. Per request of Tim Bergling’s family, this online space is dedicated solely to sharing memories, photos, and thoughts about the superstar. Regardless of where in the world fans, peers, and loved ones may be, they can reach out and know they’re being heard. The official avicii.com website currently reads as follows… Tim created music that brought people together with timeless memories from all over the world. We created this space so you could share your memories with all of us and let the world know what Avicii meant to you. His music and your memories are forever. The testimonials will certainly tug on your heart strings. Here are just a couple… It hurts every time I hear the starting of your songs. It hurts how when I’m in public I can’t go into a store that’s playing your song without breaking down. It hurts when people ask me if I’m ok when they see me about to cry because of you. It hurts to see every page write was instead of is. It hurts to hear people say in memory. It hurts how I can’t have new music from you. It hurts to live in a world without you. It hurts. But I still have to thank you. Thank you for everything. All love. – from LIA WIRGES I felt like Tim and I were much the same; I have struggled (and still have some really bad days) with a serious anxiety disorder (and I also love producing music, though I’m not at Tims level BY FAR). I watched Tims documentary just days before he died, and was heartbroken by the devastating news. If someone close to Tim reads this, I want you to know – Tim might just have saved my life. He made a difference being the who he was. While it’s horrific his life ended like this, it was not in vain. – from SIMON Share your memories of Avicii here. Kyle Watson recently brought his multi-dimensional productions to Shambhala Music Festival in British Columbia, where we were able to experience his stunning live show in one of the most raw and beautiful festival settings on Earth. Just before he hit the stage, we caught up on music, happy tears, inspiration — and best of all, his new album Into The Morning, which just released as of today. At Shambhala he tested out some of his unreleased material to an enthralled crowed and now we’ve come full circle, as we get to hear the full release as he intended. Kyle Watson is one of South Africa’s biggest dance music exports, with a strong following of loyal fans spanning the globe. Whether you’re in a small, sweaty club in the heart of the USA or a 15,000-strong open air festival in Brazil, you’re likely to hear one of his records played out. Releases on dance music’s biggest record labels, from Ultra to Atlantic, Dirtybird to This Ain’t Bristol, have helped evolve his craft into a unique style of forward-thinking house music that blends the dark with the light, sweeping melody and musicality effortlessly amongst the grit and energy of a raw bassline. Those qualities ring true with this new album, as Into The Morning captures that sweet spot in time through a blend of genres and Watson’s own personal experiences in studio. Listen right here and read up on the mastermind producer below! Kyle Watson – Into The Morning <span data-mce-type=”bookmark” style=”display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;” class=”mce_SELRES_start”></span> Happy Shambhala! Is this your first time? This is my first Shambhala and my first time in Canada even. Just got here 30 minutes ago. Feeling good! Ready to smash it! I can’t wait to see the Pagoda stage. I’ve heard amazing things about it. When did you first fall in love with dance music? It was probably when I was about 12. In South Africa, they used to have these dance music compilations and once I got my first one I just kept buying them. Then, I found the Dirtybird guys and from there it kind of all took off. Is that when you knew you wanted to be a DJ? I actually never really wanted to be a DJ to be honest. I’ve been writing music for over a decade, easy — 15 years or so. I never really ever thought about DJing at all. But, obviously, the kind of music I was making and listening to at the time, it just came from there. Now, it has taken over and it’s addictive. That feeling that you get playing your music to a bunch of people is a really special feeling — can’t really get that from anything else. Do you remember the last song that brought you to happy tears? It was in South Africa, I did sort of a tribute show. Basically, I played an extended three-hour set of all my music that I’ve been making over the last 10 years. When I played my last track it was “Solace.” Yeah, at that moment everything kind of came together and it was a super emotional moment. It was the only time I ever shed a tear while I’ve been playing, at that moment. Which brings me to my next question — how do you make your productions sound so pretty? I have a background in music so I’ve learned about classical music and scales and everything. So, when I write my music I do incorporate that musicality into it. Using that musicality and that knowledge you can make people feel things. As opposed to just drawing in notes on a sequencer. I think that’s really where the emotion comes from. Is there an artist that has inspired you the most? Probably the most influential, who got me into it was Switch from LA back in the day. There was a whole movement of fidget house and Switch was kind of leading it. He was making this left-field, weird house music that I liked straight away because it was different from everything else. He was probably my biggest inspiration. Name someone in dance music you’re dying to work with, and someone else more outside of that realm? Within dance music definitely Justin Martin is someone I’ve looked up to for a long time. I just love the way he writes and the way he mixes soft elements with that grittiness. I think he’d be awesome to work with in the dance music industry. I think, Flume. I don’t know if you can really call that dance music. Suppose you could, but I’d also love to work with Flume. I think he’s incredible. The techniques and everything that he uses are just mad! Tell us about your new album… The album is called ‘Into The Morning’ and it’s not only house music, it’s a whole bunch of different stuff. I’ve kind of experimented with hip hop and other genres. I’m going to be playing a bunch of it tonight. It’s pretty interesting because it’s not just a house record. I’ve worked hard on it and conceptualized from the ground up. The name ‘Into the Morning’ came from me sitting in the studio and starting work, on a track or whatever, at like 10 at night and working until 2 in the morning. All the tracks were written into the morning hours. Tour Dates Oct 4 – Grasshopper Underground – Detroit, MI Oct 5 – No Vacancy – Portland, OR Oct 6 – Dirtybird Campout – San Fran, CA Oct 11 – Q – Seattle, WA Oct 12 – Sound – Los Angeles, CA Oct 13 – Club Vinyl – Denver, CO Photo via Andre Labrune This article was first published on Your EDM. Dominic Monaghan, the plucky British actor who played Merry in the Lord Of the Rings trilogy and poor, doomed Charlie on Lost, has been cast in Star Wars: Episode IX, Deadline reports. He’ll join other new faces to the trilogy like Keri Russell, Naomi Ackie, and Richard E. Grant. Unsurprisingly, there’s no details as to who he’ll be playing, which is pretty much the case for all the new actors. “The galaxy far, far away has had almost as much influence as the one I live in, so I am delighted to be involved,” Monaghan told Deadline. He’s also likely stoked to re-team with director J.J. Abrams, who co-created Lost. (Ranking: Every Star Wars Movie and TV Show from Worst to Best) Filming on the sequel commended roughly three weeks ago, so more information is likely to leak soon. Returning cast members include Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, and Billie Lourd, alongside veteran Star Wars actors Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, and Billy Dee Williams, who will reprise his role as Lando Calrissian. Carrie Fisher will posthumously appear in the film. For all things Star Wars, subscribe to our State of the Empire podcast. Source

Heads up to those traveling into Burning Man — police are targeting the area and it’s been reported that lengthy vehicle searches and drug dogs are holding up traffic. Organizers call these traffic stops “overly aggressive” and “unconstitutional” for tribal land. As Burning Man’s online journal explains, the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) is conducting intensive law enforcement operations on Highway 447 in Wadsworth and Nixon. This activity is expected to continue throughout the weekend and possibly into next week when the gathering is underway. As 60,000 people begin to arrive, this is inevitably going to cause some problems. “While we respect and appreciate the important work of law enforcement, we are greatly concerned by the real and potential negative impacts of this surge in activity,” Burning Man expresses in a statement. “The Burning Man organization does not condone any illegal activity. We urge our participants to obey all local, state, and federal laws, and we appreciate the role of law enforcement. We are also, however, very concerned about the current and potential safety and operational impacts of the Bureau of Indian Affairs operation, particularly as we ramp up to our busiest time on site.” The organization has shared the following concerns with the BIA: Black Rock City Operations Public health and safety Traffic congestion Negative economic impact on the tribe Lack of coordination with state agencies If you’re traveling into Burning Man, there is some detailed information about what to do to prepare for the drive and for potential encounters with law enforcement officers. Rarely does Atlanta disappoint in the arts and the latest enviable export to come out of the Southern mecca is tiLLie. For the past two years, the self-proclaimed “anti-pop star” has experienced an upward spiral all by her lonesome. She writes her own music. She records her own music. She’s plays her own music. But there’s a reason for her literal approach to the DIY format. “Even in the darkest songs, there’s gonna be a moment where there’s a glimpse of hope,” tiLLie says. “Maybe it’s something that other people are afraid to talk about — you know, like mental health or domestic abuse or death. That is the job of the artists, to say the things that everybody else is afraid to say. Music has always been and will always be my therapy…” That hope has since led her to go toe to toe against nine other acts in an effort to score an opening gig for ScHoolboy Q at House of Vans Chicago on September 14th. It’s all part of Vans’ inaugural Share The Stage competition, which began earlier this year when over 150 artists traveled across the United States and Canada to get their voice heard. Improvisational music has always been around, but it’s cultural importance ebbs and flows, but this type of spontaneous performance is older than EDM, older than jazz, jam bands and hip-hop cyphers. It could be found in the salons of Enlightenment Europe, and in the ragas of ancient India. Improvisational music is as old as music itself; part of humanity’s past, present, and future. But now technology has brought us an almost infinite amount of recorded music, available for free, at the touch of a button. This begs the question: what is the role of live improvisational music in the streaming age? One answer can be found at Red Bull Music Presents: Round Robin (August 30th, Thalia Hall, $5 with RSVP, $10 at the door.) An evening in which 16 improvisers from diverse backgrounds will collaborate live in a rotating series of duets. The night starts with a solo performer (A) who is quickly joined onstage by a second performer (B). Performer A and Performer B have five minutes together, then Performer B has five minutes with Performer C, and so on down the line. This progressive event format highlights the individualized experience that comes from an evening of artistic improvisation. The artists are a who’s-who of Chicago’s culture scene, including Makaya McCraven, a jazz composer and experimental producer whose album, Highly Rare, was named by the New York Times as one of the best albums of 2017; Akenya, a multi-genre instrumentalist, who is the musical director for Noname and who has worked with Saba and Chance the Rapper; Kevin Coval, poet and artistic director of Young Chicago Authors; Katinka Kleijn of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, who’s been called, “Chicago’s first lady of the cello,” and more. Even for improvisers, the structure of the event is unusual. “Who knows who you might be performing with, and what references they might bring?” says McCraven. “Basically, what we’re going to be doing is trying to draw upon some sort of common vocabulary.” Part of the appeal is the element of danger; the chance that things won’t come together. Kevin Coval says, “In our creativity, you wait for the mistake that is a blessing.” McCraven put it more bluntly. “The audience is out there like, woah, are they gonna fuck it up?” And then, some of the joy of spontaneous improvisational performance is that this moment is connected by an unbroken chain of events to live performances of the past. It’s the feeling that you can touch one end of the chain, and see the other end move. Akenya reflected on the inspirations of American music: “The roots of music in this country are tied to slavery, the blues legacy, and jazz traditions – the oratory tradition that African peoples brought with them, and how that continued through music. Storytelling and exchange shaping the community – I think there’s always an element of improvisation and spontaneity with that. I think it’s part of a larger cultural legacy that has led us to this point.” Kevin Coval says, “There’s a Jewish meditative practice that was developed in that golden era of (17th century) Spain when Muslims and Jews – and specifically the mystical traditions of both religions – had a lot to go back and forth about. There’s a meditative practice which is basically a freestyle prayer with God. I think those traditions very much inform mine own.” Musicians and composers have built off those traditions for centuries. Katinka Kleijn has performed compositions by 21st century composers George Lewis and Julian Eastman, where there is, “An open score, so there is a score, but with a sensitivity towards improvisation. We were playing, 50 people at the same time. For fifty people to be open to what might happen in the moment, and how a group can move together, to hear something happening and all move towards that aesthetic was incredible.” She compared the structure for improv to the structure of a society: “A guideline to interact with each other. The things that happen are not premeditated, so it still has that surprise.” Koval reflected on seeing an early show by Fugees in the years before The Score and “Killing Me Softly.” “There was a little freestyle, and Pras got on the mic and said something homophobic. Lauryn (Hill) then interjected and basically schooled him and this audience of hyperbolic, hypermasculine, homophobic dudes in why this space should actually be intersectional and why there isn’t space for that kind of homophobia in hip hop public poetic practices. That was ill, that was one of the illest things I’ve ever seen in my life.“ Moments like these are often missing from traditional concerts, streaming tracks, and canned videos. Recitals feature less awkwardness, and also fewer moments of total transcendence. Says McCraven, “We live in a time when there’s so much music. There’s too much music to consume. We’re getting to a point of saturation, and that is encouraging to a live musician. We’ve hit a little bit of a breaking point. Audiences are craving more musicianship, more spontaneity, more freedom out of the music, because everything that we get blasted with is so controlled and so perfect and tight.” Some institutions are already changing. Kleijn says, “I’m a member of the Chicago Symphony, and we don’t really do recording any more. In the history of the Chicago Symphony that was huge – 62 Grammys – and it’s something that’s not done any more. It’s a very clear shift, and it’s making us think about only releasing live recordings.” All of the musicians I spoke to expressed some optimism about what comes next. Says Akenya, “I know people are always like, streaming has changed everything, and some people feel like it’s ruined the artist’s ability to have sustainability through selling music. People aren’t really buying music any more. But because of that, I feel like people go to see more live music. People are more excited about that.” McCraven says, “I want to encourage people to be there and experience this, the danger and the wonder of it, and revel in the unknown.” Of course, you could just stay home. For free, you could stream a song that has been streamed a million times, and always the same way. Or you could go to a live show – an improvised live show – and hear something that has never been heard before and will never be heard again. A live improvised event is a conversation: between audience and performer, past and present where moments of surprise, awkwardness, and glory happen fluidly. It’s the collective holding of breath and the ecstasy of release. It’s not knowing what comes next. The only way to find out is to be there. Source

The Chainsmokers continue their 2018 with another new song, without a doubt the biggest banger they’ve ever released, “Save Yourself” with NGHTMRE. The track was first heard during their headlining set at Ultra Music Festival this year, as it fit in well with the rest of their heavy-bass drops and high-energy antics. The song features Drew’s vocals again, but rather than head into pop territory as the rest of their 2018 singles have done, it descends into intense trap mayhem with thunderous kicks and raucous synths. Aside from any of the remixes released by The Chainsmokers, this is undoubtedly the hardest original production of their career, and we’re damn glad to see it. This is 100% back to EDM and we’re reminded why we fell in love with them in the first place, even if NGHTMRE did have a good bit of influence on the final product. It remains to be seen if The Chainsmokers will follow up with their original plan of a 12-track album due out in December, but for now, we’re just having fun coming along for the ride. Check out “Save Yourself” below. This article was first published on Your EDM. Source: The Chainsmokers Team Up With NGHTMRE For Their Biggest Original Banger Ever, “Save Yourself” Source
