If you dwell on the fakers too much you'll turn bitter. Obviously they're in it for the money or the status but their lack of talent will only get them so far. Eventually they'll get bored of pretending and either get their act together or give it up entirely. Its passion that drives you to succeed. If mixing makes you happy then that's all you have to worry about

It does look that way in the video but it has four green (-10 to 0db), two yellow (2 to 4db) and one red (over). So I'm guessing the red begins at +6db on this mixer. Ideally your signal should be between -5 and +5db, averaging at 0db. In the video Sarah is consistently hitting the red which is BAD

I think basic bass eq'ing may still be necessary so you get a better idea of how well the tracks go together. I do agree that FX can distract the beginner from learning the fundamentals.

since when has the clubbing scene dictated what equipment DJ's should use? not everyone wants to be a club DJ, and most of the ones that do will have difficulty getting a residency. i doubt vinyl will die out anytime soon. dvs is booming and new releases are still being pressed, long after cdj advocates predicted vinyl would be dead and buried by now.
