overit Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 ez all, some of you know about this, some might not.Basically I am in the U.K. trying to set up a way I can teach dj skills online to people worldwide in remote communities or who just don't live anywhere near any other DJs.For now I am still trying to work out if it is possible using skype for free.Ideally I will make this a business, but for the ADJF community I plan to offer free sessions where we can just chat shit, jam tunes and learn from each other. We all got skills to share innit. While I am testing all sessions will definitely be free.SO: Next chance I get to test this will be thurs 6th dec (tommorrow). I will be online at 10am U.K. it will be 6pm W.A. and 9pm N.S.W.if you will be around and if you have a SKYPE username then PM the username to me or post below pls.if you want to be involved but aren't a skype user yet then register on skype and PM or post the username below. Skype is free.Below this is my instructions as to how to set up so we all get the best from this, and so we test if we can really jam or not.Cheers. Quote
overit Posted December 5, 2012 Author Posted December 5, 2012 To get the best from skype/webinar:Register, get username, send overit username, overit will connect with you (you will receive a request from skype to connect with "djimbluefoot").Accept request to connect.Set up your dj decks so your mixer output is feeding into your line in on your computer. Hook a mic into your mixer so we can hear you. Hook your computer audio out into a spare channel on your dj mixer so you can listen back. If you dont have a spare channel on your dj mixer possibly hook your computer audio out str8 into your speakers and use your dj mixer in headphones only. I have no idea what kit you all use but I hope you can set it up so you can hear and be heard.eg: I have been using my NS6 controller and my set up is as follows: NS6 via usb to run DVS. In skype preferences the NS6 was recognised as an audio option and so all i had to do was select it as my microphone to hear it via skype.I could also select it as my skype speakers but found I didnt get the best quality from this. So I stuck with internal speakers on the skype preferences and fed a line out from my Mac into a spare channel on my NS6. I also fed a mic into my NS6. This worked nice when I tested with Scottie and he could hear my audio and mic.If you are having problems please still get involved. Even if half the session is spent working out how best to hook you up that is time well spent in my eyes. The biggest issue is hopefully going to be bandwidth and the audio cutting in/out as more users play audio. But this remains to be seen. Finally, if all is working well, and if we can all hear and see each other - have some questions ready for open discussion/demonstration. I may not be the tightest mixer in the world but I have been earning a living from this game for 20 years. I got a lot of info to share if you ask the right q's.Thanks in advance for any1 who makes the effort. Quote
