  1. all sounds ok mate. at the end of the day it's down to personal pref as to where you like buttons to be. but you wont get those preferences until you've got used to it. you got your head on your shoulders, so go with your gut.
  2. I've not actually played on one but all the reviews say it has the same platter as the VCI series. That makes it much better than the mixtrack for scratching if it's true. It does look like it has buttons to browse playlists whereas the mixtrack has a rotary pot which makes it much quicker to scroll through your playlists. Less buttons in general than the mixtrack too. IN case you arent aware all the buttons on a midi controller can be altered by you to do whatever is available in the software. So generally more buttons = better even if you dont know what they do: you can always choose something for them to do later. This is not the case in traktro LE tho, it doesnt allow midi-mapping. But I would try and upgrade the software whatever you get ( see below ) Otherwise it's much of the same IMO. both options still only come with traktro LE so i would def advise plannign to upgrade the software to traktro 2.0. Lots of offers exist right now so negotiate.
  3. fark, i wish bro. Gotta go earn as usual
  4. http://www.dmcdjchamps.com there's some free mixes already up.
  5. have to say that looks like the "who" in a "whodunnit" movie but you should still prob test things methodically. maybe try hook that RCA into a hifi "aux in" if you can borrow one. that way you take the computer speakers and the adaptor out of the equation str8 away. Intermittent faults like these can be a real pain to track down so good luck mate. keep us in the loop.
  6. are you sure it's volume and not one whole speaker coming on or off? A dodgy cable to one of your speakers or from one of your channels can cause that issue. If you're speakers are close together you wont notice it's one of them it will just sound like a vol drop or boost. If the vol change shows up on recordings you can rule out any cables after the record stage though. what's your setup again mattus? Be V.specific for best help.
  7. prob too late for this year but as I'm an old skool festie fool here's an idea for you: adjf stall at each parklife? advertising the community, selling t-shirts, giving a free "taster" spin on the decks... pay for a stall site and staff get to go for free... if you can figure a way to make money from the stall you're onto a winner.... just gotta rota each of you so you can see the fav acts but also pull your weight manning the stall. Stall holders get to arrive earlier, stay longer, secure parking, sometimes cleaner bogs and better camping if its that type of festie.
  8. scratches are there to remind you to look after your decks better. I'm not taking the piss, I've got loads of dints and scratches from packing away the kit while drunk i use the kind of anti static duster you would use on a computer keyboard to clean all my electrical equipment. If you wipe with a cloth you can end up pushing all the dust down cracks, eg into faders on mixers and round the edge of the platter on decks.
  9. ^hats right mitch. uk stores currently offer it with traktor 2 upgrade for just £50 more. http://www.decks.co.uk/products/numark/Mixtrack_Pro
  10. soz man. i was looking for that pic too but cant find it. To be honest though my setup may not look much tidier than yours anyway... i just try group things together as I'm setting up. And once the lights are all going no one notices shit anyway!
  11. I dont know much about computers but i havent heard of anyone who uses anythign other than a specialised soundcard dedicated to streaming DJ audio, especially as these have all the correct input and outputs. But if you have checked your spec you will know. If you dnt need to move to gigs then it makes no dif wether you are desktop or laptop. am in uk tho so cant help you find one.
  12. ah sorry man, hadnt followed what you were saying... I just use the flightcase to hold down the sheet. I aim to have all the cords underneath the table so they are hidden by the sheet but I still have a short run of cables that comes into view. I have a laptop stand too so all the cables that have to attach go under that then I group them all together with some ties and I'm left with just one bundle of cables which i tape down along the top of the table from under the laptop stand to off the side of the table and under. does that make anymore sense? next time i set up I'll try take a photo but my main season for mobile work just fin. It's student parties and clubs again now the academic year has started. Corporate xmas do's not far off tho.
  13. sorry bro, i'm so digital now that all my vinyl is built into two benches that run along the wall of our attic room. I can still get to it but havent had a dig in years the digital equivalent to this thread is the friday shuffle one: http://www.ausdjforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2536&p=102638#p102638 all about the music
  14. d'oh.... done.
  15. http://www.facebook.com/OfficialASkillz?sk=app_178091127385 right up my street
  16. http://www.musicians.asn.au/union/about.html the U.K. union only allowed DJs to join up three or four years ago. Discount insurance for kit and public liabilty, contract help, legal help etc etc. I would def see what the australian union offers you.
  17. i love this friday shuffle eggs, always starts my day with a slice of history. this week itunes DJ threw up a classic by ragga twins who I know I've posted here b4, guess my itunes dj knows what i like... this is "shine eye" feat junior reid, a class riff sampled from todd terry, a class rap by a reggae superstar and class beats by original junglist massive... wait until .53 seconds in for the riff, then at about 1.15 it's heads down for the running man "a shine eye gal is a trouble to a man."
  18. A dj mixer is line level so apart from losing a tiny bit of sound quality by processing the signal twice you just plug one mixer into any spare line in input on the second mixer... if you are lucky one of the mixers will have a spare 3rd channel so you just put the output of one mixer into the 3rd channel, set volumes and leave it alone. Occasionally a mixer has a "session" in on the back which lets you do the same. On old vestax PMC series if you pugged a second mixer into the 2nd OUTPUT it would bridge str8 through too.
  19. ez. beginner vinyl tips: have a solid table, use a gentle touch, walk before you can run ask more specific questions in the beginner sections, you'll get heaps of help... where you from b4 oz?
  20. how to: search terms "guitar hero traktor" on youtube. try "dj hero traktor" too image in my mind:
  21. Just want to make sure you are aware of the difference between a mixtrack and a mixtrack pro as you mention both in your OP but may be only thinking about one. The mixtrack pro comes with audio, the mixtrack will require a seperate soundcard. This will affect price. Both are fully midimappable and work with any software so as mitch says that is not an issue. You may have to cost in upgrading software on mixtrack pro though. If poss get a hands on test of both and buy which ever feels more comfortable.
  22. aye, all fair. As i've always said: on a recording people pick up on little errors and turn their noses up. There is no atmosphere when they're listening to it. When Live you can make a major trainwreck sound great/as if it was done on purpose by following it with a bomb And i'll always be a dancefloor DJ. realistic feedback is good though. I am really interested what others make of it coz I'm never too old to learn more, especially in a genre I'm not familiar with... and everyone's POV is worthy coz anyone can be in your crowd when you're live
  23. there is a fair amount of info on insurance here: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=3021&hilit=insurance&start=15 but ignore the posts by a dj called dennis. Pill drops the knowledge in that thread. I would get public liability if you are taking kit into a venue. In the U.K. we have a musicians union who provide legal, insurance and other services at discounts for anyone in the music/dj trade. Isn't there anything similar in oz?
  24. yer man nice one, I know the beatmatching was terrible in a fair few places. You're right too I was going for 4 decks most of the time. Had just got my NS6 so was on a new piece of kit and using new tunes in a genre i'm not up to date with but wanted to support the comp so really just threw myself at it. Could've polished it a bit but didnt have time... That's good feedback hearing that it was too much coz I was kinda liking it... I guess that because I didnt know the songs I didnt really respect them as individual works and just tried to mash something out of all of them live. Good to know it didnt work for you mate. In future I can try and remember to let the tunes do the work for me unless I'm sure they are going to work together as a mash up. Anyone got any more specific comments?
  25. mate, i do exactly the same thing in the U.K. and have the same dream to move to Oz... if it's ok with you I'd love to ask you a few questions about how you managed to immigrate? I don't even know where to start!
