  1. ^fuckin oath mitch is this your choice or theirs? Cupe has very important question there Sol, answer please...
  2. good work hobz and pun. had a shit one last night, 30th surprise birthday organised by the guyss missus, playlist was all sexy urban, drum n bass and poppy dubstep so I was thinking: this is gonna be fun. turns out she forgot to invite any of his mates. Place had about 25 people in it, all olds, average age about 50. He, her and and her sister were the only people under 40 except for ankle biters. Couldnt win whatever I played so 5 hours of playing start stop for foolish back to crews venue next weekend
  3. did you chk that link in my post to the old skool tv style brackets? If you have brick (as opposed to plasterboard partition) walls then these can be fit up nice and high. But otherwise floorstands FTW. glad you did the calculations mate
  4. I think there maybe much more to this than meets the eye. It looks like a good update on the DJM909 which was the first ever mixer to combine a turntablist layout and cross fader with Club DJ fx options. I cant afford one but will be looking fwd to having a play on one at first opportunity.
  5. what sort of speaker, or more importantly how much do they weigh? I fixed a pair of studio reference powered monitors to wall mounted T.V. stands once. Cant find a link to the one's I found but: http://www.2mcctv.com/product_info-VMPVMP003B.html is kinda what i mean. these ones say they will hold 60lbs each. It's harder to find ones now as since most t.v. went flat screen no one needs this shelf design style... but there must be some out there in your country. If you're meaning P.A. speakers then just look around your average bar and venue: they take chain slung round roof joists or scaffold to hold the things safe!
  6. real hiphop inna digital era Some discrepancies between vol levels but I like hiphop like that, it's known as dynamic range in orchestras etc and works when you are cutting that quick I have a mixtrack pro myself for a current project but only have traktor LE on it. Wont let me import .tsi mappings. Am i right in thinking you used a map to make the kill switches = hot cues? I'm also noticing you dont do many skribbles? Do you do those on vinyl but find it hard to transfer to the mixtracks platters? I do Bit too much effects for the style of music for me. But that is just me being a dinosaur no doubt. Overall has a def "at home" mellow vibe to it. Bet you rock it when you follow a crowd Propz.
  7. HAHA tiesto and busta fanbois^ Both have ok moments but I'm talking about the kind of chart dross that has their names after a "vs" or "featuring". OBV if i say it's a case of each to their own you know I'm gonna hate on something, coz thats my POV: To me they are all homogenous quantized crap with autotuned vox and airbrushed videos, designed to make it easy for the DJ to keep the muppets bopping. Lowest common denominator not music that moves your soul. Jive bunny for the 21st century. It works and it pays, but it hurts to play it. IMOIMOIMOIMO Esp coz I know busta's verses are sick, he's like a dungeon dragon, but you arent gonna tell me all the releases he's guested on in the past 4 years are worthy? and mattus: turn up/turn down are just like any other question: you are the boss, if it's the client asking you should take their thoughts on board, if it's anyone else you have to judge: Is the dancefloor full, is this person the centre of the party, how relevant are their desires compared to the rest of the room etc. It's just an element of reading the crowd. The reason I mention it is simply because anyone coming up to ask anything will break your concentration and make the beat-matching that little bit harder to maintain. This includes gorgeous women asking for your digits +sick meme cupe.
  8. just repping jaz, now i've got rekord box and can spend a bit of time setting memory points I can see how using the memory call on a cdj900 will be almost a workaround for hot cues. They dont play from the press of a button like hot cues but I can jump to them and be ready to go. If you will allow me to be so bold I'm going to call them "tepid cues" I wont be able to jump str8 to and play the cue but the timing is such that I can call up a memory cue, and play from a count in. Just means I need to factor in a 4 beat break for each "tepid cue". Or if i'm doubling on both dex I can call up a "tepid cue" and it'll act as a hot cue when I cut from the doubled deck. I had figured on setting all the memory points at gigs on the fly, but now i have rekord box I can set them visually while chilling and this makes a huge difference. So cheers jaz, works better than I thought
  9. s'all good, keep on rockin
  10. hands up all those who've been playing piano since they were 1 day old dope.
  11. soundcard: I use the one I got with a digital vinyl system. Post a new thread in digital forum and you'll get plenty advice. ableton: it isnt much worse than any others if you're starting from scratch. It just has a different approach to all the rest so if you were used to one thing ableton would be very wierd. watch some online tutorials and demos and you'll get an understanding of what will suit you.
  12. practise setting up and making it work before you go. Any tech problem could eat up the whole 45 minutes. ...and 1200 school girls... pheromone city mate, take a gas mask
  13. 21st is traditionally a big event so if you are taking your kit and doing the whole thing then $50 p.h. seems about right. If he thinks this is too steep maybe agree on a flat fee up to a certain time but $50 per hour (or part hour) if they want it to go on later? your mixing is fine but you may tire and lose the ability to concentrate during the course of a whole gig, plus you'll have punters, fools and breasts to deal with as people come to ask the predictable questions: "can you turn it down, can you turn it up, have you got any good music, have you got anything my gran dance to, etc etc etc": In these scenarios concentrating on beatmatching is harder than just beatmatching unless you wanna blank the punter and piss people off. Rem this: if a mix aint gonna work: just wait and fade it instead. Let the power of the tune do the work, especially as they will prob want songs they know so they can sing-a-long and shit. def get some more cheese and chart. Anything with guetta, black eyed peas, tiesto, busta, pitbull, or rhianna from the last 4 years will work. makes me feel dirty just saying that tho
  14. one of this type of thing: converted to be wide enough to hold a CD wallet upright to the right or left of the decks so you dont have to find anywhere to put it flat. People often use a laptop stand for this but if you want it to be truly dual-purpose it is best if the stand can be tilted to hold wallets vertically like you hold a book. Needs to have a wide base so the wallet doesn't slip off too. Wall mounted will keep it really secure but unable to move obv. If the speakers are also on the table you may find bass frequencies travel through the wall more than normal too. an ashtray and a drinks holder.
  15. Ez mattus, crossing genres is probably the only way I still get a kick out of mixing. You can be as creative as you like, sometimes even making pretty much a new tune out of your transition between the two dif genres. here's a thread where some ideas were given previously: http://www.ausdjforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=5281 interested to see what you come up with mate
  16. ^all will work better with an external soundcard as the internal soundcard on most computers is not of good enough spec to handle the amount of processing required for good audio. Each piece of softaware will also have a "technical specification" or "system requirement" detailed on their website somewhere. This tells you what size processor and how much RAM you will need to run a programme sucessfully. That said many people run prod software with less then the ideal requirements and it's ok for a while... but when you have a lot of stuff going on in a track the computer processor cant handle it and you get clicks and pops which are called "audio dropouts" I use ableton for messing around and small edits. It is aimed at DJs and remixers but the function it has called timewarping results in a very recognisable "ableton" sound. The pro's use protools or logic as it does have better sound quality. If you have a mac you can start with garageband as it comes free on all macs now?
  17. glad to know i'm not the only one eggs. but as eggs said: it's no biggie mannn. Will let you know if it keeps happening for the sake of knowledge, but I can live with logging in once in a while
  18. k, done for second time, maybe I had a window open somewhere last time i tried this..
  19. ------------- DJ Thryce burst into the DJ scene this year 2010. DJ Thryce is the next upcoming jock to look out for! If you want your tunes to be spun/heard in a different way to the usual boring DJs; come and experience the special feel DJ Thryce dices up on the decks! "We're certain you'll return for more!” This year DJ Thryce will be putting his best megamixes up for the "Into The Limelite DJ Competition 2011." Passion will never take him away from the music industry. "Dont Judge His Skin By The Music, Let His Music Do The Talking" Cheers --------------------------- I accept Paypal only joking mate, didnt try and change what you were saying, just made it a little easier to read. Hope that helps.
  20. yeah it's no biggy. TBH it has reduced the amount of dumb posts i make, a little Just thought Cupe should be aware it still happens tho.
  21. ^ lol, where's me zimmer frame
  22. Hey mann, had a listen to that mix It's well synced and extremely commercial. I'm not at all surprised to see you're earning and I hope you get recognised in Perth. I wouldnt use the word "turntablism" in the vocal intro though. That term is generally used by the vinyl scratch guys and they can be known to get quite tetchy lol. I would also get someone to proof read your bio on soundcloud, I can see what you are trying to say but the english is letting you down a little mate.
  23. swear down yer all mad as a box of frogs the origins of the word bootleg comes from when pirates used to smuggle contraband liquer and other stuff in their oversize boots. as far as i know a bootleg in music is just a pirate copy with no alteration, edit or creativity applied at all. Often it's a crap recording done live by a punter at a gig. remix, reedit, edit, mash up etc are all terms used to describe a new product wether it is legal or not. but bootleg is a term only for pirate copies. It's confusing enough as it is without calling a remix a bootleg... IMO.
  24. ez, also jealous
