dude, chk the wedding list for the names and artists of al the classics... viewtopic.php?f=4&t=3809&start=75 also if you dont have a lot of these it may be more economical just to buy a CD compilation than spend the time trying to source them all online... eg from uk amazon but bet you can find similar: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kids-Party-Hits ... 180&sr=1-3 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Party-Classics- ... 262&sr=1-4 even if you dont buy them these tracklists are the shit you'll need to fall back on.

being straightforward takes more sense than rambling mate, thats why my name's foolish

I shy away from school discos but have been to a few with my daughter... obv there may be cultural differences but the guys i've seen had success have really dredged the barrel. macarena agadoo jive bunny anything from high school musical or glee mambo no 5 and what hobberz says^ any pop song that has been in a disney or pixar film such as that one from shrek "hey now, you're a rock star" etc, things like that. plus the gaga, derulo etc shit but originals not remixes. even fuckin hakuna matata from the lion king went down well.. this is why i shy away from them. Maybe one day though... There'll prob be a "best party pop hits ever" type compilation available that will do the job for you IMO. P.S. make absolutely sure you are playing radio edits... expilict lyrics = parents complaints (even though half the kids will have the proper version on their own ipods etc)

^ haha. not sure if srs but i'll have the kettle on in case

^ no doubt setting up any dvs to swap over djs in a live situation is tricky. If i had to do that I often swapped the mixer too... which is a real mission to keep music going but possible... I still prefer multi core to seperates because they are all in one and labelled, plus I have a head torch. but lol at lloyd and more lol at sol.... if the word sol heard was just from lloyd in chat then I think the young man should google multicore and see what others have to say on the topic ey? My comments were directed at people who write things like that as forum posts, not in chat... chat is chat yes

they are great, do the job simply and effectively. the problem people have (as far as i know) is when one connector on one end of the cable breaks you end up needing to replace the whole unit which is much more costly than replacing one rca. A word of advice Sol: IMO if all people can say about things is "there shit" then you can guess that person doesnt think too much in the first place. Anyone with a real problem with something would try and explain it for the good of a forum, only a dick who had a problem and had given up before thinking would bother to post "there shit" and nothing else. also be sure you are researching multicore cables for traktor or serato or whichever dvs you are going for. Multi core is also a term used for the cables that run from stage to mixing desks in live band venues, some of these are cheap shit.

i'll be amazed if it isnt ey? wazza'll know...

hey lloyd, what is the bpm gauge on serato? is it like a bpm counter? where there is one for each deck and it shows you the current tracks BPM? On itch, traktor, VDJ, CDJs and everything else I've ever seen the BPM readout changes with respect to tempo changes from the pitch fader when a song is playing. Pretty sure serato would work the same but am always willing to learn.

Sol posted this in reply to a specific query on another thread, I thought it a good enough analogy to deserve reposting for the mobiles. good find sol

^ i wish i could have explained it in that many words lol.
-
wow, what a thread, i guessed most wrong For my part I'm pretty similar to most of you (although I'd never speak for you ). I Love music, always messed with it. Was def a social outcast. Too geeky to hang with the cool kids but apparantely too cool to hang with the geeks too. Always happy even when I was blue as long as I had my music. I guess the thing that got me thinking about it all was this celebrity culture that's come up with the DJ life now. I see a fair few of you have posted that yeah you'd like it, or maybe you're not chasing it but would love to fluke on it etc... fairplay to you, i aint gonna hate as I said before... but I posted my thoughts on the topic on my blog recently.. it's a bit of a trawl (too many words) so jump to the bottom or fuck off if you want... but here I go anyway: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I don't want to be famous. I have actually had a go a few times. The largest crowds I played to was about 4000, I've done band work and regular club nights in a venue that held 300 for long enough that I started getting recognised at other bars etc… the sensation was horrible, intrusive, and disconcerting. Some random comes up to you to say "hey, aren't you that dj?" and they want to rep you. They could be the nicest person on the planet but all I can think is "uhoh, they have ideas or preconceptions about me due to whatever genre or style of music I was playing when they heard me DJ, they have no real idea about me but worse any preconceptions generated by the music i played when they heard me will have been confused by whatever state of mind they were in at the time." I think quite deeply you see. To me music can change lives, it has changed mine. As a purveyor of this power I have learnt that I really want to be anonymous. I have always felt that my role as a DJ is like a messenger, the musicians who made the music I play are the purveyors of real power. Yet the modern dance music and DJ scene has hailed the DJ as being the power, not just the messenger. I know some DJs live up to this role to some of their fans. I don't want the responsibility, I just want to pass on the messages. I also know that lots of people "in the business" are so insecure of their positions that they often become sycophantic. I'm thinking here of promoters, agents, scouts, critics, T.V. personalities as well as DJs and all the wannabes desperate for a first step up etc... Although they are only trying their best to make a living in an artform or scene they love they come across as fake and two-faced just in day to day conversation, even when they aren't. This really weirds me out. So anytime I've approached or been approached by an opportunity for the next step up the ladder of fame I've found myself facing someone who could open doors for me, but who comes across as quite untrustworthy simply due to their own insecurities, or because they are untrustworthy. I live for love and i think love is based on trust so people who don't appear trustworthy or worse, prove themselves unreliable, really don't turn me on. Finally, I love music, and I feel it always needs to suit a mood. I try and practise at home, but to me the biggest part of DJing is reading a crowd and following their vibe. I cannot have a crowd at home, i wouldn't want one, neither would the wife and kids. So I end up practising with music that fits the mood of my house not the mood of a dancefloor. The only time I really get any practise for a dancefloor is when I'm playing to a dancefloor. Sure I can practise technical DJing and sort playlists of ideas until I'm blue in the face. I can pre-listen to tracks and catalogue them away in sub genres in multiple playlists so that hopefully they come to light at moments when they will be applicable, and sure I can listen to music all the time, well, all the time my kids aren't glued to the box, and all the time I'm not listening to someone else's mix to offer mentoring. But I cant actually get practise for a dancefloor without really being there. I also feel that each dancefloor is different, but the bigger the crowd the more homogenous the music has to be. In a small party or room you can actually see people respond to your selections and your mixes. With bigger crowds it seems DJs have to go straight to the lowest common denominator. I prefer the connection I get with small rooms. So I feel I'll never be a superstar because the only time I'd be getting enough practise to play at the level those type of dancefloors require would be if i already was a superstar. But I'll never be a superstar because as soon as i start getting noticed, or worse; approached by people (and god forbid if they are people who are "in the business") I just start to automatically shy away from the weirdness and unreality of it all. I still love DJing. I'll always love music. I love making a living from it... but i honestly feel that the celebrities who go mega famous lose their personal life, their ability to connect with a crowd, and their option of choosing to play the music they want to play. In other words mega DJs arent really DJs anymore, they are celebrities, and I think these are very different things. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- So for anyone who got all the way down here just a reminder I totally believe it's a case of each to their own... hence making this a poll not a rant.

Hey Mitch: Some mixers do not have cue mix, some do not have split mix, even on the one's that do they are not guaranteed to work. Lets be honest, sometimes the headphones dont work at all! I honestly learnt without any headphones at all. Just me, no one there to judge or complain about trainwrecks. Just everything all the time from the master output. I gradually got better and quicker and learnt tricks to cover mistakes (eg quick recueing, scratching, etc) When I got headphones I noticed the delay you are talking about that happens if you have one ear in the cans and one ear n the master. This is due to the different paths the audio is taking. If you are aware of it and practised you will find it is the same amount of nudge everytime and you can just factor it into every mix. Of course you can embrace tech and use cue mix/split, but if you rely on it and turn up at a gig where it isnt available you're stuffed... so for now and while noone is listening why not just go for it and learn from the roots up? Not only will you be able to cope in any situation but along the way you'll develop good hand skills and control of your platters

hey man, good luck. apologies if my geography or knowledge of your style is way out but is this close enough to you: viewtopic.php?f=85&p=99852#p99852

My big 3 controllers - Pioneer - Allen & Heath - Denon
imadje replied to CapFive's topic in Mixers & Controllers
wow, thats mad... mine cost $1072 in oz dollars. £700 of uk money. Only £40/$60 more than the denon in this country. All the other units are about the same price, just the NS6 is more pricey down there... But i hear ya, that denon is a real piece of work. It would have been the one for me if it had better scratching platters too... Metal case, Professional XLR outs and works as a stand alone mixer in case of emergency = essential -
Skillz Hobz and Mitch. ADJF boys dominate

^nope. Never have, never will. I dont earn mega bucks but I'm happy with what i have for what i have to do to get it. Sycophants and Suckers play the popular market but most dont recognise that the extra bucks they earn by sucking up just gets spent on trying to forget how low they had to debase themselves to get there. There is always an alternative to the last resort. and yes i realise you dont actually mean sucking dick, its a metaphor, but still: Have some fuckin pride son. Damn.

So i start a new residency where they have 2 CDJ900s. I was planning on taking my MAC with traktor so i could access all my current playlists etc. I have put a lot of work into arranging tunes into lists and I also like the ability to search for a song using the keyboard. But lots of peeps say it will be easier to use an external HD linked to both players to access all songs without the need for a laptop at all. But how do you search? and how do you prepare playlists? If i have to copy each playlist from MAC to a seperate folder (to act as a playlist) on HD I'll end up with thousands of replications... Who uses this tech, any knowledge?

yay,,, new residency been on the cards for a while but now that the new academic year has begun our crew have agreed to run nightly events from here on in. http://www.themusiquariumleeds.co.uk/Th ... lcome.html I get 1st refusal for most fridays and all saturdays except where an act is bringing their own DJ. So apart from a few weddings i already had booked that puts me behind two cdj900s with my djm 909 every week for about 7 hours again, with a quality band on every week so I get a break too Anyone wanna buy a NS6... jks... It'll still come in handy.
