While we are on this....Like mine too?!?!?! https://www.facebook.com/DJ.DrC1 Is this the existing thread? http://www.ausdjforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=6496&hilit=facebook+fanpage

Quick question.... Those trying to produce, do you have any knowledge in music theory at all?

I did this same research not long ago. Everything I found pointed at the S4 to be the slightly better unit. The only real advantage to the pioneer unit was your laptop can slide underneath it which may be handy in a mobile situation. The other "perceived" thing was the pioneer name, look and feel. But those in the know are more than aware of the S4's capabilities. Having had mine for a little bit now, I wish it had that slider the pioneer does that allows you to skip to any part of the song. I got to use my mouse or spin the jog wheel forever if I want to move through the tune. Other than that I love it. I personally wish I got the S2 instead. But from what you have said you would need the S4.

BDO used to be great because it has a bit of everything. I would probably never have discovered acts like the resin dogs or pnau without stumbling across them at bdo. But it is certainly a shadow of its former self, mostly due to the fact there are other festivals meow.

These Dell 24" looks like good value $279 each http://accessories.ap.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=au&cs=audhs1&l=en&s=dhs&sku=230-12093&redirect=1 The Dell panels are very highly regarded for colour reproduction. And 24" gives a little higher resolution (1920x1200) the 23" (1920x1080).

You only got Melbourne tickets?

I got a Dell U2311 which is a great monitor. Was using it as my primary monitor until I bought a Samsung 27" monitor. Now I have the Dell in portrait as a second monitor. It is amazing how many things work really well in portrait. Basically anything that is like a list. I am working on my mix for the newb comp and having Traktor on my main screen and Rekordbox on the 2nd has made finding the right tunes heaps easier. http://accessories.ap.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=au&cs=audhs1&l=en&s=dhs&sku=230-12158&redirect=1 edit: If doing a bit of photoshop an IPS panel as found in the dell I provided will give a much much better and more accurate reproduction than cheaper TN panels.

What do you want triple screen for? Games or productivity?

My i5 2500K (3.30Ghz but overclocked to 4.5) barely move the CPU metre off idle while in Traktor. I don't have scratch, and that may be different but I can't see it being much different. edit: Might be worth throwing out here to look at the all in one ddj setups like the S4 or S2. Get a copy of Traktor Pro and all the hardware is sorted. Not as pro as turn tables, mixer, soundcard combo. But I know which option would be the easier one to get up an running and learning on.

I buy all my shit at umart.com.au but that may not be handy for you.

I really want to get into production too. I spent many, many, many hours playing with trackers (OctaMED) on my Amiga all those years ago. And have always had the desire to get back into the creativity. Things are so much more complicated than the old mod though. But results are far better. FL Studio here I come. edit: interesting fact - Calvin Harris used OctaMED to produce his first album.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Created_Disco

Yeah I will be in on that comp. just trying to work out what kind of mix I want to do. Either another progressive mix like the one I linked in the OP? Or a mix of moombah/electro/breaks bangers? Got time up my sleeve. Will probably do one of each and then decide which to enter.
-
Cheers. I see that. I am only getting back into the dance music again after quite a while since my clubbing days. Back then it was all hardstyle and trance. I see progressive as where trance has transformed into. Kind of a blend of electro house and trance. Which is really what I like. I remember those "hands in the air, point to the laser moments," that made EDM euphoric.

Thanks. My quick look around and I really think this is the place I have been looking for.

Worth also considering the S2 if you don't think you will be using the extra sampling features and want to save a bit more coin. Basic beat matching of two songs then the S2 is all that is really required.
