Cupe reacted to Luciditymusic in Self intro - Lucidity
Hey yo!
I’m Lucidity and I’m new to the forum group!
I’m based in the Canberra area but am always keen to travel to new places near and afar to expand on my existing knowledge and experience. After spending many years on the dance floor and being so connected to the music and the energetic pull that it has on me, I felt a calling to lean into this space and have enjoyed the ride that I’ve been on the past year of learning and getting a few gigs here and there ☺️
My love for playing techno music and all the different sub genres keep me always on the lookout for learning and personal growth opportunities.
I’m always open to forming new connections and experiences that will help me gain more understanding of this industry and am excited for the ride I’m yet to be taken on!

Cupe reacted to azaram in Rent a Komplete Kontrol S49 mk2 in Sydney?
Thanks. Yeah after I posted this I found out about Studio 19 and also saw a sign for them when I was at StoreDJ.
Is this what you were referring to?
It's a pity that it's for a minimum of 6 months, but I get it that as their business model relies on you buying a new one, they can't do much about that (as opposed to an actual rental company that owns their stock and can rent the same item short term to numerous different customers).
At StoreDJ's listed price of $1059, it'd be $312 to rent the S49 for 6 months.. I guess not terrible, I'd probably only need a few weeks to figure out if it's for me and I'd rather not pay more than $100ish to try it out before buying. I guess I can't have everything
That said, I've been down to StoreDJ twice now to have a look around and also got a more in-depth demo and how it integrates with Ableton and the Komplete software. I think it's probably what I want, so I'm looking to buy one. Maybe second-hand, but also seen an eBay deal for $809 and free shipping for new ones.

Cupe reacted to Mitch in The "I just bought.." Thread
I find Ableton workflow and interface easier to navigate around. I think my novice skills find it easier to learn and navigate around the one product rather than bouncing between Maschine and Ableton? Thought I’d use the Push more as I have a better grip on Ableton. (Basically me having no idea lol).
The pads don’t feel as good as the Maschine ones, but all in all it’s integration to Ableton seems pretty awesome and intuitive to get up and going.. Haven’t been able to use it much yet, but will give it a run this weekend.

Cupe reacted to Sevrin in In-ear monitors: ambient noise, custom molds and limiters
Hi folks,
I plan on switching from headphones to in-ear monitors (IEM's), mainly for protecting my ears, while maintaining sound quality. After some on-line research, it appears that IEM's have some real pros, though there are some cons, and these can be summarised by:
Pros
Superior sound isolation allows you to keep the volume of your IEM's at a very low and therefore safe level. Sound quality is not compromised by safety (as with headphones with musicians ear plugs for example), and in fact, IEM's will often sound better than many headphones Portability, less cumbersome than headphones Cons
IEM's used while DJing, require the DJ to mix via earphones, and not with monitor speakers. The one-can-on and one-can-off ear method of mixing doesn't apply here. Exposing a naked ear to loudness defeats the purpose of IEM's. Many Dj's just don't enjoy this style of mixing so this could be seen as a con by some. The downside to amazing sound isolation is feeling disconnected to the audience. DJ's can feel like they're in their own little world separate to punters. Acoustic shock by (generally accidental) high volume would be worse with IEM's than regular cans. I'm really keen to explore solutions to audience disconnection and the potential for acoustic shock. I have some questions:
Custom molds are known to increase isolation and comfort, but will this further increase audience separation? Has anyone had experience with IEM's with db filters to allow some ambient sound in and therefore reduce the 'bubble effect' when performing? Has anyone had experience with limiters that block sound if it reaches dangerous db's? Is this a reasonable solution to avoiding accidental acoustic shock? Look forward to feedback re: the above IEM issues when Djing. Thanks in advance!

Cupe reacted to laidbacklush in Hello - a long time in the making
Hi Mitch
Thanks for your response, lots of good info there.
I wasn’t sure even aware of the AIFF format but my Mixstream Pro is able to analyze and play many formats including AIFF. I agree with your thinking on downloading en masse - I’m very targeted in what i download to avoid clogging up my collection with songs i won’t play.
Cheers
Dan

Cupe reacted to Themrmarty in Hi, beyond my dream…
Hi all, whilst I’ve always wanted to learn to dj, being 40 now and a full time truckie I thinks it’s a little beyond me. I have however been able to pass my love and passion onto my 12yo daughter whom I have just brought a ddj400 for her 12th birthday. I’m now just looking at ways I can help her to learn all about music and mixing. Hopefully finding some ways that will be helpful to her being so young.
cheers, Marty.

Cupe reacted to DEEFLO in Mixer help
Thank for the reply Mitch. I'm waaaaay out of date as you can see haha
I was thinking if I can sell my mixer to help fund a new mixer. The 2 mixer I've mentioned are on the lower end as my budget isn't high. I will def have a look into getting a Traktor for DVS. I am looking for Serato mainly coz I have 4 control vinyls and don't know what to do with them if I'm not using Serato.
I have been searching all over the internet but like you said, there isn't much info or anyone even selling this mixer.
Yeah and especially my Serato audio interface is a SL1 which I doubt anyone is even using one nowadays. But I did see on Ebay a few selling at some unrealistic price. Like a few hundred dollars. Which is crazy...
Sounds like I just have to forget about selling the old gear and just get with the times haha
Cheers for the help man!

Cupe reacted to sooraj_djp in Getting Creative with Ableton's Auto-Filter
Hey guys wanted to share this really cool trick with Ableton's Auto-Filter plugin to create grooves, rhythmic melodies and so much more. This was a trick shared by an Indian house & techno producer- HAEN (do check him out). He plays around with the LFO and groove settings on the auto-filter to come up with creative ideas with audio samples as well as midi.

Cupe reacted to Martin D. Pierce in What do snare sample packs contain?
Snare sounds come in a variety of varieties, including metal snares, drums, and brushes. Some people even create their own samples using household items like pots or pans to get unique textures.
snare sample pack are used in all musical genres. They really come in handy for DJs or producers who need to use a snare sound but don't have the time (or money) to create one from scratch using analog techniques - instead of waiting till inspiration hits them with any song they're currently working on. For example, if someone is producing house music and needs some tambourine stabs for percussion then having a library of pre-made samples can be very useful!
