Mitch replied to imadje's topic in DJ Headquarters
Never mixed hip hop. However I do have a fair collection of old and new aus hip hop, as i said in comp thread, will have to at least attempt to throw something together, got nothing to lose -
Lol'd. Couple of things: -why did he not touch the pitch faders the whole mix? Seemed to load a track then instantly two seconds later started bringing it in without seeming to beatmatch it. Or was he syncing and his cueing was just off? -too many effects and stuff -played with bass eq's every 2 seconds instead of trying to keep the songs beatmatched -not sure what he was Doing with the fx as I was only on my phone and can't see properly, but it was a bit too much concentrated on fx and playing with the bass eq instead of concentrating on getting them in time together -and the hitting of the cue button every two seconds lawl. Reminded me off press press guy -needed to watch the levels in a couple of spots But that's just me being honest and critical. Needs moar beat matching and timing of when to hit play, planning the builds and drops, less fx and stuff. How long has be been mixing?

Edit: Sols method may work, but not sure if you would lose any control over your volume levels and stuff. Can anyone else comment?

Short answer is no. Had a quick look at your controllers inputs/outputs on the back, and can't see any room for it. The efx are designed to be hooked up to your standard mixers, where there is an effects send/return inputs on the back of the mixer. controllers all softwsre based, therefore all of your effects are within serato itself, not handled externally. The only way to make it work would be to buy a dj mixer with send/return effects inputs, then plug the efx and your ddj into the mixer. Not worth it really. Tbh though man it isn't worth getting one, especially with a controller. I barely even use effects when I'm mixing, not necessary IMO Hope this helps

It has a dedicated filter knob which you can assign to one channel and have on the whole time if that's what you mean. The 800 has the same thing, but a knob for every channel

If you highlight all of your playlist and drag it into a folder on your computer, all those tracks will copy into it. However using record box improves the use of usbs with pioneer players. makes it faster, quantized looping, browse by playlist, artist, genre, key etc. And yes you can import iTunes playlists into it and then copy those playlists onto the usbs

What cdjs are you using? Have you looked at record box?

Dj tutor run a tenminmix Comp (probably the One your entering) Have a look at some other entries on www.djtutor.com Also, check this thread, one of our other members entered a couple of times, vids are in the thread. One of his entries made top 20, so will give you an idea on what they are looking for. viewtopic.php?t=7268 Hope this helps

You can have both mixcloud and soundcloud apps installed, If that's an option for you? Otherwise, on all your posts, there is a 'share' button, if you click that you can re share your posts and it will go to the top again. So if you are strategic about the way you do it, reshare what you want in reverse order then obviously the last things you shared appear at the top. Hope that helps.

Tell your friends you will dj their parties for free to get some rep up. Use Facebook or other social networks to tell your friends you can dj for them. Even your first gigs if you aren't getting paid, treat everything professionally. Eg -spelling, grammar etc. if your messaging or talking via Facebook etc. -handle yourself professionally when talking on phone -arrive to gigs early, set up neatly -be honest with clients All of these things will help. Friends parties is how I started out, and by following this i have scored a fair few gigs

Cdjs are going to be smaller, lighter and therefore easier to move around. Especially when you sit it all in one roadcase. These can scratch as wazza said. The 350s are actually a newer model than the 400s, so your probably better off with the 350s. They are also recordbox compatible for when your preparing your usbs If your keen on getting cdjs and on a low budget, something like this would be ideal man, in WA too: viewtopic.php?t=8622 This is the one andyman was talking about.

Well the pio decks have vinyl mode which you can scratch with if that's what you mean, they just don't have moving platters. So you can scratch with them. If your serious about scratching, you may want to go with turntables with a time code setup. or as you said there is cdjs with moving platter. Not sure what cdjs do that, or which are good/bad models, wazza knows his stuff in that department though

The Good thing about pioneer players as the layout of all of them are the same, so once you learn how to use them, you can use any of them. Saying that, the fundamental skills are all the same. Maybe something like the cdj 350 pack that opticon has for sale in the buy and sell section would suit you?

I have a 700 and love it. The 800 has filter effects (think that's what they are called) - the four blue buttons on the left of the mixer. I never use them when I used an 800 anyway. Also has filter knobs for every channel, as opposed to just the one on the 700 and you have to select the channel. Can be handy but not necessary. Think there is a few other differences, there is a comparison on a site somewhere I found when I was looking myself. But yer, i find the djm 700 really good, especially with how much cheaper it is than an 800
