EDIT. This wasn't the video I wanted
-
I feel more sorry for myself having watched that shit.
-
it did. worth it though for a bit of a background on why they were the best. Also good memories being stirred up.

DJ set... pffff... there's been waaay too many over the last 10 years to pick one/remember them. Stand out ones I would say though are: Cassy/Ricardo Villalobos - Cocoon Opening Party, Amnesia, Ibiza, 2009. That night started at 00:00 with Cassy. Around 3am Villalobos joined her for some b2b action until about 5am then Villalobos himself. Me and the mrs left around 7:30am and he was still going. Think it went on until midday. I was buying rounds on my credit card which is bad news in ibiza. Magda - Sub Club, Glasgow, 2010 possibly? I've seen the subby go off may a time but on that night the place was berserk a well before she even came on the decks. When she did it was just insane. What a night. Thomas Bangalter - Tribal Gathering Weekender, Southport, 2002 Played for a while and to be honest was pretty boring, building it up and bringing it back down with every record. Then there it was... instrumental of Stardust - Music sounds better with you. After that he tore the roof of for the last hour. fuckin class. Dave Seamen - Cream, Amnesia, Ibiza, some time in 2000 Awesome just because it was one of my first nights out in Ibiza. All my mates had fucked off home but I stayed on. Was supposed to finish at 5am. 7am he dropped the instrumental of Planet Funk - Chase the sun.. followed by the vocal version. Bit of a moment with the sun shining on the roof of the club. Ricardo Villalobos & Richie Hawtin b2b, T in The Park, Balado, 2005 Simply awesome. ironically this was live on Radio 1's essential mix with the first hour coming from non other than DJ Sneak. http://soundcloud.com/michaeljulian/richie-hawtin-ricardo-villalobos-sneak-essential-mix There's a lot of other but I can't really think of them right now. Forgot a lot of shit that i've seen. Best non DJ set i've seen is Daft Punk, Rockness, Loch Ness, 2007. No better setting to see them in the world. In a tent that holds 10,000 there was at least double that before security had to take down the side of the tent. When they did the rest of the 40,000 people were gathered outside for a piece of the action. Daft Punk are no mugs either. The Main stage (and festival closing) set was Manic Street Preachers. Or at least it was meant to be. DP delayed their set by 45 mins so that they would be the closing act. People were going mentle, booing and shit. But when they came on it made so fuckin immense. Notice the closing fireworks at the main stage during Da Funk. amazing time was had.

one of the best electronic live acts I've seen is bookashade...

unless those tracks were just edited over the video

there was one. while she was talking one track finished and kinda faded in to the next one without here even thinking about touching the mixer.

VDJ Gear - Specifically Mixer
russell replied to MintyCondition's topic in Beginner DJ Tips & Tricks
glad you asked cos I was thinking video. -
I prefer the kind of places that are fdark as fuck with a little bit of backlighting and couple of light here and there. Less shit there is to look at thebetter as your senses focus on the music more.
-
nah fuck that. I watched it far enough in sheer shock to the point where the tacks mixed, albeit badly, all by themselves. Thats an insult the everything i believe in.
-
whoever else uses the name 'house' in vain.
-
What is the whole show though? some lights and pyrotechnics? There is no show with 3 guys just standing about. If they are meant to be DJ'ing then should be doing it properly. If they are meant to be playing live then they should do that properly too. I can't see how anyone can be interested in watching a few guys doing next to nothing. I'd much rather hear a few mixes going astray and being corrected than listen to a premixed cd. I can do that in the house and at least I know the DJ is actually doing something. And again... Sneak can mix no bother. seen him plenty of times.

Don't get tested until the thursday morning anyway
-
your too easily pleased I reckon. I don't what you mean by type of music? It wouldn't be hard for them to run an ableton set-up using some samplers and outboard gear. These whales are just making money off the mass market who are too dumb/ignorant to give a shit that they're forking out to watch 3 guys play a few mixed CD's. that's fuckin criminal.
-
Sorry what? I agree he went on a bit too much about SHM but his initial point was valid. Sneak was DJ'n and putting out tunes a good decade before these whales. He's a total legendary DJ in the house scene and to still be doing it to this day is obviously pretty damn successful. Being non-commercial doesn't mean the same as being un-successful. The whale also mixes off of three decks. no hassles. Read a quote the other day when one of SHM was comparing them to the beatles and it said something to the effect of there's 6 hands ad 4 CDJ's when they 'perform'. WOW. 4 CDJ's between 3 people. They must be so skilled..... Compare to that to a real DJ collective like X-Press 2 who are made up of 3 people. They DJ with 6 decks and 3 mixers. Makes sense for 3 DJ's. the whole point to shm was COLLECTIVE PRODUCTION, not mixing.. enthusiasts wanted to see them live, so they threw together a way of entertaining their fans... then why not put together a live show rather than 3 guys playing CD's?
