a DAW (software), lots of sound loops and clips, virtual instruments (VST's) will be enough to get you started. Later on you will want some decent monitors, sound interface, hardware controllers whether it be keys, pads whatever!
As much as we would all like to present great music journeys, the average listener on a mixtape or at a live gig doesnt give two shits and has the attention span of 30 seconds. For anything electro/house/trap etc just smash them in otherwise most people will say it gets boring, even if it it's great.
Will compare with my laptop tomorrow man, last time i checked was lucky to get 3/400kbps on wifi whereas i get 1-3mbps wired. Either way i still run my desktop via wire as i game alot.
