  1. yeah ninjasonik is back. here theyve sample kanyes power. brother spits over 100 bars i reckon. cant wait for this mixtape
  2. im pretty sure carl cox uses a midi controller on the side not as his decks.
  3. b sides of craig david 12 inches. thats where dub step began and im not joking. but yeah chev and jonny are yer man. just saying dont discount the rnb and hip hop tracks that got the dub treatment that spawned dubstep. plenty in the late nineties if you can find them.
  4. yeah was trying to keep it to one verse than change tonight but cant pitch the songs quick enuff. the traditional hip hop tracks are 3-16 so 3 sixteen bar verses. but noticed people have thrown that formula out the window. cudi spits 3 twelve bar verses sometimes. D12 do 16 in frst verse then 24 in the next. kanye does verses into bridges into refrains into talking and chucks out the whole concept of verse/ chorus/ verse/ bridge or break/ verse.
  5. errr still struggling with this. ive chopped and changed a setlist a few times now. so hard. some songs intro arent i. beat or time with the song. just random sounds. some songs have exactly eight beats then straight into the verse (these have been the easier ones to mix just start eight beats before chorus ends). then some start with one half of the chorus. and unlike the advice to mattus of play the vocal over a musical part. most of the songs have no just musical part!!! recorded for the first time cuz i was hitting a few. but listening back only half those i thought i hit sound okay. the rest sound so intrusive on the chorus.
  6. oh. okay cool ill keep it in mind.
  7. i know a lot people may disagree but other then for straight business use (ie office and internet explorer) i personally wouldnt recommend dell. from a build perspective (ive seen way too many off the hinge dells) and from a spec perspective. just my opine.
  8. hey tomy do you get your computer music from here or overseas? i just ordered issue 156 for about 10 AUD. 20 bucks at newsagents
  9. mac vs pc time wu-huuuu if you cant afford a mac have you looked at asus'? ive had mine for going into its 5th year, still works a charm except i prob need a new battery. they usually have some cheaper end machines. just get the highest processor and highest ram you can afford at this moment. good thing is you can always upgrade the RAM later so i guess focus on processor. mine was benchmarking with machines 2 years newer than it. and it has lightscribe ftw. which is pretty standard on all asus machines
  10. must be that time of the year. ean golden is giving some too http://www.djtechtools.com/2010/12/18/a ... und-packs/
  11. otay its been a while since i listened to mixtapes, but been getting back into them (in particular dj moto's and kid kenobi's to get hip hop/ breaks transition help). anywho, just wanted to get confirmation that the difference in mentality b/w internet mixes versus full mix sets (be it for a mixtape or while in the club). for the latter you are more likely to play more of the song right? i.e. in a lot of the internet mixes (10 to 20 mins) songs are jumping every minute or two, but on mixtapes and im pretty sure in clubs songs go for longer 3-5 mins (or for some house tracks 7-8 minutes). i know there is no one formula but thought id see people's thoughts. i want to try and make a 30 min full mixtape, and at average 4 mins thats only about 8 songs.
  12. sources transitions advice remiunded me ive wanted to post up about hip hop mixing for a bit now. i know jaytee posted up about it many moons ago but i cant be assed digging it and from memory the solutions was me posting the DJTT article on the pop song theory of chorus/ verse transitions. i also had this awesome article http://www.djforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=193930 but even though i understand all this theory i cant freaking put it into action. you really have to know how long your intros are, and do a lot more planning about when you can drop it in. but even knowing that i just cant seem to make it sound good. in an hour sesh i reckon i only like about 5 transitions i do. i also realised in all the vid tutorials i have watched (roc raidas how to rock a party, z-trips from the 2nd disc of scratch and a few you tubes) they are mixing hip hop with minimal sounds (i.e. kick, hi hats, snares and bass line). but a lot of what i am trying to mix has melodies, so it doesnt seem as easy. anywho. any hints or links to vids would be much appreciated.
  13. i thought from the title the deadstop would be the power down, but it wasnt. cant pick it. anywho top posts source! +rep. i love how youve gone from garbo setup to a freakin top notch studio
  14. chev check this article. talks about in terms of timecode, but also about the actual thruput of the needles (what is needed for normal vinyl). http://www.djtechtools.com/2010/05/19/c ... omparison/ i woke up and this article came to mind.
  15. i wouldnt of posted this today as 2 days left, but just to put in perspective of the CDJ 200 pack i just posted (dont want to post this tomorrow and some sod says oh what i would have bought these instead!). anywho doesnt come with headphones but its the 400's instead of the 200's, also this mixer has less channels but currently cheaper. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... K:MEWAX:IT
  16. and also in a roadcase. no bids starting at $700. i think thats cheap right (?) http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... K:MEWAX:IT
  17. another great option for getting into turnies on a budget. 2 x AA DTI 1.8, which have same torque as the 1200's. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... K:MEWAX:IT
  18. not sure the torque of these turnies, but i assume they sit somewhere between the T80 and T120 so should be okay. but for the price alone of the Road Cases (the cool stackable ones) and the carts this is worth it. if i lived in QLD id go this myself and then sell off the turnies. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... K:MEWAX:IT
  19. hey turntable hunters, 2 x ST150's currently at $750. not sure why they are not loaded (if descript says not used mych) so note you will need cartridges, but still a pretty good price and they do look good. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... K:MEWAX:IT
  20. no worries. im still a bit from playing to anyone outside of people i know. but thanks for the reply!! and the initial post
  21. hey jonny cant you stretch the non acapella version to make it the right speed. then stretch the acapella to match that? isnt that how they use to do blends on turnies. by beatmatching the non acapella. then leave pitch where it is and drop the acapella version. no idea if my suggestion is plausible as my experience w daws is limited to a few hours in audacity. but pickin up pro tools today. wu huuuu
  22. your using tsp right, or will be then yeah you dont necessarily need to spend bigg. ive got 680.v3's and they work perfect for me and apparentally are well rounded carts. never looked at anything else. i know your mm47s are the hip hoppers choice. not sure why, maybe stable tracking
  23. cool ill get my old world class wreckin' cru tracks out for inspiration
  24. hey pill how does it work for traktor or serato users who buy the music online and put it on one hard drive and thats it. i remember thinking they still need that digital conversion license because basically it changes the non commercial rights you have when you buy from beatport, juno, itunes etc into one where you have rights to use it for playong out.
  25. twat? i thought we decided its one genre else yer comparing apples and durians. EDIT oh i get it you mean the sub genre is whatever is in the descript. whats prog electro?
