for those that have bought records (me, oxy and russ) its interesting to see neither of us have really bought from local shops. is that availability (i.e. having what you want)? price? locality (i.e. ease to get to)? or has it just been opportunity that we bought from overseas? I know for me its a mix of opportunity and price. I think when I go into records stores here I probably am a little more picky in looking for value. like when I got those fresh prince albums I bought from the Prahran record store, I reckon if I was overseas I prob would've bought a half dozen or so more for what they wee priced at. and even when I walk past record stores in syd I only occasionally go in, while for some reason when im travelling I seem to be drawn in to check them out.

thanks for getting on board all. drC i guess i prob shouldve made a zero. but if you buying say one limited edition box set in a year its pretty much the same as zero. moar votes and info!!

just curious to see what other people’s vinyl buying habits are like in a year (take the last 12 months for example) the poll itself is just how many you have bought in the last 12 months, just count each record as one regardless of 7”, 12” or LP it would be good if you could also post some additional info. i.e. where did you buy these records, breaking up how much of the records you bought in the last 12 months into the categories below brick and mortar record shop local brick and mortar record shop overseas record fairs australian online shop overseas online shop discogs other private online (ebay, gumtree, adjf, etc) other (from a holmie, back of a truck etc.) love to hear from the regs, but at the sametime for the lurkers this would be a good simple post to get involved in! i will kick it off…

heyup. I cam across this store located in Melbourne who do small vinyl runs so it is affordable. http://www.smallrun.com.au/#!/mainPage they will cut lower quality stuff but obviously you put in shit you will get shit out the other end, so it is best to have it mastered for vinyl. some pricing below but check site for full pricing

you don't by apple for value. so you cant compare cash to specs. its like buying hp. you don't get the same value of just building from scratch . basically you pay a premium but you know exactly what you are getting.

back on topic. despite what a sad state of affairs it is, I know some of y'all club dj's have already said that's how it is in the club scene right? i.e if you can pull a crowd you can get a gig. I guess these guys are taking that methodology to the fest scene. that blows. someone try to win it; and then get up and just press play on a premixed set and then make small movements not actually touching decks in protest of their ridiculous scheme. a la kurt cobain who was protesting not being able to play live on some tv show; so he stood there waving his hand in front of the strings but not actually hitting them to indicate he wasn't playing

until it comes back again and all you fellas are my age and realise it's not worth whinging about. djing has been the "in-thing" about three times now in my lifetime. in-thing as in it shows up in commercials; there are "toys or gadgets" catered for the masses; it's in every tv show and movie; "dj's" are superstar celebrities on every talk show; and all the stars are doing it. for me it was the commercial boom of hip hop in the late 80's; the commercialisation of raves late 90's (that was the time all us old schoolers hated how CD's was bringing djing to the masses); and now in the last 2 or 3 years. so seems to be a ten year cycle. so you see you all again about 2019-2021 EDIT: actually the cd vs vinyl arguments, in my hood anyways, was circa 95-96. but im sure it was still raging by 99

wow. not badd. isn't it like 600 tracks (20 a day for 30 days) some tracks I want aren't voted in yet but plenty to go thru. is there a min contract time or can you bail whenever you want

I buy from beatport, itunes and juno I preferred juno mainly, but because of the discount code beatport would send if you don't buy anything for three months I have found most of latest hauls have ben from them. I used to find juno cheaper and a lot of tracks that were region blocked in beatport were available in juno. I have used BP support once when a track sounded like it has a stutter. they responded in about 30 hours and allowed me a re-download. track still had a stutter so I assume it was intentional
