I always say I'm going to go but always cbf on the day. I might have to try this approach.

I'm assuming your going to also use a truss. Personally I like to have over my table so the mini moving heads can sweep on/behind me. I suppose you could get a pair of cheap led flat pars and have them at each end of the truss facing you on.

My usual rig, Me and a friend put some lights together for an awards night

When you say rent, this would mean that your going to a hall or warehouse to throw this event in? If your charging for tickets then you may want to look into licencing issues as well as tax. Not to mention more tangible things such as security and toilets. Sorry to be a downer but you may be better off renting a club.

Work (one of the big 4 banks) is throwing their anual presentation and they wanted to jazz it up with some mixing in between breaks as well as music for interviewees as they walk up. Its 5 x 1 hour sessions a day for a week. I get a paid to be at the office and not have to do the usual office work. Its going to be run by me and another dude, we're going to tag team between mixing and running the lights/videos.

Need money for a holiday. Haven't used it in a while. See description for more information. But seriously, Imagine the exposure you would get if you were the first person to write an acoustic dubstep track. Just saying... http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/111013469329 ... 500wt_1156

This happened a couple months ago, but this is probably the most appropriate place to post. I had a 10 minute slot at the dance studio to play whatever I wanted as long as it worked with the dances. Messed it up a bit cause I was also in charge of filming the night and had to make sure everything was running smoothly, but everybody had a good time.

Great post, consider mobility of anything you get and where you are going to store it or have it set up, a big cdj and mixer setup might not be feasible. Really can't beat controllers to get into djing though, so many options on various price levels. Get a cheap and nasty $200 controller like the bcd3000, mixtrack pro, hercules rmx. Make sure it has a build in sound card. If you like djing, then you will eventually outgrow it. If it turns out its not for you then at least you didn't sink $1000+ into gear

Schnitty... In a pub it might be okay, its very matesy. Think about how it would work out in a club or private gig environment. It would suck to build up a following then have to build it up again if you change your name

But you don't. Any commercially sold music is sold for private use only. What about off beatport? As for requirements Registered business name - wouldn't hurt Appropriate licences (ie PPCA) - waste of money (the artist/label doesn't get any of it, as long as music is purchased legally that should be enough Insurance - making sure gear is included in home and contents insurance. Public liability would be a nice idea, but I don't think its 100% necessary if care is taken to barricade ones self and putting up sufficient posters to warn about posible seizures Backup equipment - yes, do you need completely sepperate rig? a bit overkill, making sure your rig is redundant and modular, yes. eg - powered speakers, if one dies the rest will keep playing, my traktor s4 has a through function on chan 4, keeping a mix lined up on my phone on the offset the laptop crashes (hasn't happened yet) Website - depending on the clients your looking to attract, I find facebook and word of mouth is more important, but I believe if you want big clients you need to present professionally, eg have a website. Otherwise I believe being professional means being able to deliver at all times, regardless of your mood or how much of a bitch the bride is. Also, the little things that back up the performance, such as tidying up cable behind a table cloth, contacting the clients to confirm details and such. A CONTRACT. Also, if you want to be a proper pro. Get an abn, print receipts and pay taxes.
