  1. He probably sold em to you coz it was Broken lol
  2. you can pick up some techniques, but i did however find the transition from the controller i learnt on (mixtrack pro) to CDJs, there was a different feel to all of the controls - for example the pitch faders and jogs have a very different feel about them. However if you get some basics down on a controller and learn the techniques properly, yes you will be able to transfer your skills onto other types of equipment with a bit of practice. However don't forget reading the crowd is just as an important (or more important) skill as the technical stuff, so as soon as you practice and get some confidence up on whatever you buy, do any house parties you can and get those skills up too. This will help you get much further than mixing good but still playing the wrong songs for the crowd.
  3. yer i'm thinking ill need to invest in something like this soon. I DJ off usbs at home which isn't a problem, but all places round here are still kickin it on 1000's aye. So a UDG slingbag goes on the chrissy list i reckon

    hey guys

  11. mate who plays at an RSL last night asked if i wanted to come have a mix, so happily went along. everyone had been to the races earlier in the day so the joint was pretty busy. started Djing at 10:30, but before us there was some old bloke singing opera and ballads and shit right before us, so as soon as we start, put some bangers on to get all the oldies to go to the bar/home, and all the young peeps to the dance floor. Then just took it in turns doing half hour mini sets each. IMO i mixed better than him lol. he just keeps hot cueing an acapella drop in the song then hot cues it back to the first drop when the first song finishes for every transition (and he is one of the 'better' DJs in the area ). I was mixing like a baws, bringing songs in and 2-3 mins and mashing vocal drops with songs and shit which kept the crowd going all night, was the best mixing i've done at a gig yet. Only thing that shitted me was they kept requesting songs 10 mins after we played em. but you get that alot up here. Manager normally gets DJ to finished at around 1:30, but let me go til around 2 which was sweet.

  13. garts hobberz, very nice mix also shoutout to everyone who entered, was a good comp.
  14. Dude that is awesome! Garts. If i lived in Sydney I would be there, unfortunately I don't. Enjoy it man
  15. alot of people do buy music as mp3 files online, and burn them onto CDs as mp3 files are cheaper. However you can pay the extra ($1 per track extra i think?) and get uncompressed WAV files. Alot of people can't tell much difference between 320 kbps mp3 and wav anyway though. Your crowd certainly won't, unless your own a larger sound system, then you start to notice more of a difference. So mp3 320 files are fine for most, unless your playing on a bigger system.
  16. i can feel a late surge of votes coming in for me in the last hour of voting
  17. less and less is coming out on CDs and only available online these days, so its all about hunting around on websites to find those gold tracks. some sites that to look on: www.beatport.com www.soundcloud.com www.djcity.com (and www.djcity.co.uk) www.djdownload.com www.junodownload.com dance music blogs there is an extended list of sites to purchase music in the beginner section. If i'm playing a gig soon and its going to be mostly mainstream music that will need to be played, i check out www.ariacharts.com.au to see what is popular on the charts at the time. Then try find good dance remixes of those songs to play
